The jumpjets and near max armor at least make it almost forgivable, but then you question why bother with 11 DHS, no CASE, having the loadout be entirely close range weapons.

a lot of people don't, especially Fedrats, but a lot of other people like it, especially people introduced to the setting through MW4.

>>
>>98675045
The plot progression is shit and it's sidegrade city, but some people hang out there because it's the last real FASA plot. Also was the last time the Mechwarrior Videogames followed the current timeline. Forever 67 was real thing just like Forever 3145. God, imagine that the difference between 3025 and the Clan Invasion was less than the Fedcom Civil War in total.

Fucking plot drags on so long, now. Haven't we been in 3152 for almost 4 years?
>>

Battlemechs don't have to be invincible to be the lords of battle, they just have to be better than everything else, which they are. You're not secretly a 'badass' for being a tank crewman, you're a cost inefficient disposable pawn fielded by those too poor to afford the good weapons, any mechs your combined tank force does manage to down will pale in comparison to the losses you've sustained.
>>

>any mechs your combined tank force does manage to down will pale in comparison to the losses you've sustained.
Says the poofer riding atop a million+ Cbill Fusion Engine on legs...
>>
>>98675202
The mechs use the fusion engine because it's the only vehicle that makes sense to put a fusion engine in. Why put a fusion engine in a tank when even the lightest of mechs can one-shot it with a TAC?
>>

That's the retarded part, plus everything around the RoTS, but the conflict itself is pretty cool.

>>98675032
Brother, they make primitive Toros right up through ilclan. And Firebees, actually. The Toro is a 4/6 with a large laser and two SRM-2s. The Firebee is a 5/8 with an LRM-5 and three SRM-2s.
>>
>>98675210
>Why put a fusion engine in a tank when even the lightest of mechs can one-shot it with a TAC?
Why have skimpy rear armor if it allows your MIGHTY BattleMech to be TAC'd just the same?
>>
>>98675202
That has me wondering. Battlemechs 1v1 are better than CVs, but Battlemechs are often given all the best equipment while CVs are meant to better fit the budget/logistics.
But if you have the technical ability, isn't even a budget mech still better than a tank? Like, if you built a super cheap militia mech with an ICE engine and stuff like Chem Lasers, Rocket Launchers, and vanilla Ballistics, would that superiority still be there or would a tank be better?
>>
>>98675045
The what? You're delusional. No such event has or ever will transpire. The glorious fedcom and its close allies the DC, lead by Archon Elizabeth Kurita and Co-ordinator Akatsuki Steiner-Davion respectively continue to stand strong against the rapacious marauding 'ilclan' and the now sphere wide and onfion terror insurgency of the Blakists. Word Jihadists strike seemingly at random for little or no reason, so the two houses are stretched thin reinforcing as many planets as possible. But not all planets CAN be reinforced with a standing company or three of mechs, and others are just unfortunately, not worth enough to make the expense justified. So thay is why parts of the FedCom have rebelled and gone rogue, claiming they're hard done by. Other worlds variably rebel against 'aint no kurita bitch gonna rule us lyrans/federals' or 'no steiner davion is a true dragon'...

But the fed com and the DC remain the ONLY real co-operating power blocs stymying the clanner trash. As such, they're the setting 'good guys'.
>>
As has been explained ad naeuseum, vees are your strategic defence asset. You build them as much as possible and you ship them maybe ONCE to go where they will be stationed forever as defence assets, because using them tactically and or offensively is just logistically far, far too costly.

You ALSO build and have as many mecjs as you can, because they are your tactical forces, they CAN be moved around cheaply, so they're your reinforcements, they are your attack assets.
>>
Tanks are easier to build so just build tons of them as your stupid mooks/static garrison forces

Mechs are better and more efficient when it comes to moving around firepower across space, so build as many as you can for your elastic force.

Or just be Star League and have the resources and logistics to field entire armies or Mechs that can be moved wherever and whenever you want
>>
>>98675254
Indeed.
Mech Jocks think they're hot shit, but a true MechWarrior understand that, while he might be the most CONCENTRATED bundle of armor and weapons Planetside, he is not necessary the only one.
>>
>>98675232
The problem with vehicles is mostly that they can randomly die much easier than mechs, and if they don't, they'll rack up movement losses very quickly. A peppering of SRMs or LBX pellets might randomly hit a mechs head, but it's a lot more likely to make a tank roll on a crit or motive chart, and there are results on both that can cripple it.
>>
>>98675228
Because you only have a 1/6 chance to TAC anything important.
>>
>>98675287
Plus if a mech actually lets itself get backstabbed by a tank, it kinda deserves it.
>>
>>98675307
Yeah the whole tankfag cope is honestly kind of pathetic. Yes, a tank can theoretically take out a mech in the same way a child soldier can theoretically take out a Delta Force operative, but that doesn't mean the Delta Force operative hasn't earned their reputation or that the child soldier is secretly the REAL badass of the battlefield.

>tank with a hatchet
>>
>>98675232
The thing about Battletech is that it completely reverses the usual dynamic.

IRL, mechs would be more valued for their mobility, but would be very fragile compared to tanks. This is what you tend to see in eastern mecha shows, mechs are mobile, but very fragile and prone to exploding with a single hit.

In Battletech, mechs are still more mobile compared to tanks of course, but they're also more durable than tanks thanks to multiple redundant parts and the tendency of the ablative armor of the setting to randomly fail at times allowing shots to pass completely through it, on top of fragile treads that are easily disabled. They're not going for realism, they're going for the mythology of the 'land battleship', a massive weapon that can take volley after volley and keep stomping forward.
>>
>>98675269
And to get to the objective, he better BE hot shit, because he's gonna have to wade through all the armour and cav stationed there.

He eventually has to sleep, his mech can't walk itself, tankers can switch drivers and can keep fucking driving. So they will most probably be where he is going.

This way everyone has fun. Tankers get to have their massed tank battles, and mech guys gwt to have big fights their mech gets to be the hero in. If they live.

Prior to 3050 no they couldn't.
>>
>>98675693
>it's practically more eastern with all the side grades and relative speed boost
Not really, Western Mechs are largely defined by being supremely tanky while Eastern Mechs are much more fragile and tend to explode after a single hit. That's what separates an eastern mech anime like Dougrams from Battletech.

>Sure, but by the time you've brought 'enough' artillery the enemy is already bearing down on that artillery with a far superior force of battlemechs.

Long Toms have a range of 30 map sheets (=15km). It'll take some time to get there.

Also, you can use Nagas to hit from 9 mapsheets with 5/8 speed.

Padilla (Arrow IV) is 5/8, Thor (Thumper) is 5/8. Ballista (Sniper) is only 3/5, though.

But BattleTech has decently mobile SP guns.

And of course the best Long Tom platform, the Fortress, moves at 3/5 acceleration, which means a few mapsheets per turn.

Posting bait about a series you've never seen is poor form.

>"A single spear of Longinus"

Firstly, that was a replica, secondly, even as replicas we are describing a reality-warping weapon somewhere between 40 and 80 meters long. The iconic appearance of the original is hand-thrown by an Eva from the ground into low-earth orbit where it instantaneously obliterates an alien lifeform that depending on your interpretation is either divine or sufficiently advanced as an alien species to be functionally divine.

Powerscaling fucktards need to fuck back off where they came from. Anime secondaries need to fuck back off where they came from. People who don't want to talk about Batletech, YOU GUESSED IT, need to fuck back off where they came from.

So...thanks for proving my point?

Evangelion never had durable mecha (or monsters for that matter) that could tank hit after hit like we see in Battletech.

>>
Pretty sure a lance of Alicorns will fuck an equivalent lance of mechs up.
>>
>>98675862
I wouldn't count on it, we've run the scenarios for these types of long-range high damage tanks before and it always comes out with the tanks needing a 2:1 advantage to come out with a roughly 50% success rate against mechs of equivalent tonnage.
>>
>>98675858
Your problem is that you're missing the forest for the trees, trying to define the difference by symptoms instead of the underlying cause. You can attempt to point out trends, but there will always be exceptions that run contrary to it. Armored Core, for instance, is another good counter-example on the durability front. The bottom-level inflection is that Japanese mecha tends to take mechs as the evolution of infantry, while Western mecha is the evolution of armor. That invokes trends like you observe, but at the same time tanks tend to stop working after one good hit, and infantry staying in the fight despite multiple injuries is a story that has been told in legends and award citations for millennia. The key is in the sum of its assumptions, not in any particular one.

NTA but the infantry view of mechs always did make more sense imo, I love battletech but it's view on mechs as being land battleships always felt kinda odd when the real advantage of a mech is that it's literally just a bigger stronger infantryman. You should never expect a mech to do tank things because it's not a tank, it'd be too fragile to do tank things really, Battletech universe aside.
>>
>>98676003
>fragile
Why? An armor penetration doesn't go into central crew compartment.
>>
>>98676003
It should be noted that the whole 'land battleship' thing where they're just tanking hits is mostly a late thing that stems from vidya limitations.
From the start Battlemechs are meant to be like knights, moving around in human like ways, aiming their hand canons like guns, and getting into physical brawls.
The game still reflects that in the way even, in the way they can climb, go prone, adhoc clubs like trees and rebar to bash each other, etc etc, there's just not asuvh focus on that.
Gotta remember Mechs only move as slow as they do in stuff like MWO is because when they made the Jenner true to the source material, the devs couldn't hit it at all, so they purposely slowed down movement speeds.
>>
>>98676010
>An armor penetration doesn't go into central crew compartment.
Because it's a bigger target in general. If you stood a tank up so that it's bottom is facing the enemy, there would be 'more tank to hit' but it wouldn't be safer by every stretch of the imagination. What would be a near miss when shooting at a tank would end up being a hit when shooting at a mech because it's a bigger profile to shoot at. If having more parts genuinely made vehicles safer then we would add random limbs attached to tanks that do nothing but just stick out in the air for the enemy to shoot at.
>>
>>98676003
Well, that's what happens when you adapt from naval wargame rules.
>>98676010
The defining feature of warships out of all military hardware is that the crew has to live for months on end aboard the ship. That results in a lot of the ship's volume being dedicated to things that aren't critical to keeping it afloat and operational in the middle of a fight. If you punch a hole in a tank, it is very difficult to NOT hit something vital that's either going to disable it or make the crew get the fuck out of that situation. Ships, on the other hand, tend to be very tough-until-they're-not, as a consequence of having so many things you can hit that won't degrade its fighting ability, leading to a case where ships either sink because
>1: you've damned near physically ripped it apart
>2: it fucking explodes out of nowhere
That's the real "battleship" aspect of BattleMechs: how unpredictable their durability can be.

Fucking how? The Dracs only had four Elemental suits to reverse-engineer from after Wolcott, and the GDL never captured any much less have the means to develop and produce.
>>
>>98676381
Secured a Fiat factory I presume? IS BA was something they did churn out pretty quickly with the GDL getting theirs from the NAIS. Supposedly the Luthien ones were very early prototypes that thrown directly into battle but again the writers don't let us see it.

>>98676445
Because they didn't exist until after Wolcott. The point is that there wasn't enough time between Wolcott and Luthien for the Dracs to reverse-engineer the Elemental suits, develop a working version of them for IS troops, make the suits, train the wearers, and have two regiments worth of them ready for the Luthien battle.

I've got a question about how clan Nova's (Mech + Elemental binary) work for the lore experts lurking in the thread

While sarna says that it is usually five omnimechs and five elementals it also says that there are exceptions among the clans. So what if two of those mechs are as slow as the elementals? (Meaning they just have to jog next to the banes, or take turns riding the 3/2 omnimechs if they haven't been getting in their cardio.)

400PV
Faction: Clan Jade Falcon
Era: Clan invasion to Ilclan era (Ending up as remnants in the hinterlands.)
"Binary" to fight against a mercenary company of 12, so that the activation's don't become too lopsided while remaining fluffy.

Command star
Bane (Commander who is mockingly called the merchant commander by other stars who aren't as competent at managing logistic lines as him.)
Bane 3 (Beautiful scouring sands sculpt btw, but I haven't painted it yet.)
Warhawk B (Has a SNARC but gets replaced with a Marauder IIC once the Warhawk goes extinct within Clan Jade Falcon after the Jihad.)
Summoner M (You dare refuse my Batchall!?)
Fire Moth A (Battle bus with a Tag and an active probe, what more do you need when you have a Bane 3?)

Support star
5x Elementals with machineguns.

All mechs and elementals are Skill 3 (Making the Bane 3 cost 83PV, combat initiative on this thing is brutal however.)

TLDR: Can I call my commander a Nova commander, or would a second-line garrison star be denied the privilege and only end up named as star commander?

But seeing as there is no way in hell my commander would earn the title of "star captain" for commanding a "binary" of mechs + elementals.
I guess the lore friendly naming would be Star commander + a support star of elementals? Just trying to get all the names right and the Nova sounded neat, so wanted to check with someone more into the organizational side.

Fusion powered hover tank “panzers” with a dozen redundant armored fans so that damaging one of them doesn’t cause a mobility crit like with a normal tank, using powerguns that are basically plasma guns that shoot a continuous stream of plasma like a laser, and crewed by mercenaries because war has become too expensive in the future so a lot of nations don’t even bother with professional militaries.

Neat setting written by a Vietnam vet, but not really applicable to the Battletech setting given the comparative strength of hovertanks in the setting. If you replaced the hovertanks with mechs it would probably work though.

Basically the Houthis are actively destroying Saudi's mercenary forces in Yemen, took an insane amount of territory with practically no resistance, stole a whole bunch of Saudi military hardware left behind in bases, have the strait in the Red Sea closed off specifically for Saudi owned ships only, blew up an important oil pipeline(though the Saudis claim it was Iraq for some reason) and the US refused to help them out because we've already burned a ton of our missile stockpile as it is against Iran and last time we fought the Houthis was pretty much a failure, and last night Mecca had a missile alert for the first time ever.

No, flat out no. There is no way to rationalize how a Phoenix Hawk moves without it being very anime. Plenty of other mechs "suffer" from this reality as well. Again, mechwarrior has broken your mind, BT hasnt "matured" or "moved on" from anime much at all and you are coping massively trying to think you are better than something that you aren't

>No, flat out no. There is no way to rationalize how a Phoenix Hawk moves without it being very anime
No? You haven’t watched much anime if you think they all have fast moving mechs. The original Dougrams anime actually had mechs far slower and more fragile than what we see in Battletech. The one consistency we tend to see between the real robot anime settings and the western mech settings is that western mech settings treat their mechs like landships, whereas eastern mech settings generally tend to treat their real robot mechs with more fragility. Battletech is firmly in the former category.

NTA but that really depends on the anime.
Armored cores for example are insanely durable and eat more missiles and shots to the face than most assault mechs, unless you're running an ultra light build.
>>
>>98677802
Sure if you've never watched any mecha anime before. Evangelions have divine forcefields, the original RX-78-2 from Gundam was built with a special titanium plating that made it practically invulnerable to regular weapon fire, Ideon was an invulnerable super weapon, etc etc.
The idea that Mechs in anime are fragile is made up, you watched some flashy gifs and made up a trope in your head.
Not to mention turns in BT are literal seconds, it's entirely possible to kill Mechs in a turn or two, and even cause ammo explosions, and present the same kind of destruction you claim stems from inherent fragility.
>>
>>98677837
Maybe the old games but the newest armored core was basically dark souls and relied on not getting hit in the first place
>>
>>98677856
Nah you can still get hit plenty, it's definitely faster but face tanking can be a legit strategy if you know what you're doing.
Hell there was a guy who played through the game with a BT Atlas build.

>>
>>98677906
Sure but it’s nothing close to what we saw in Hired Steel with the mechs enduring 2 solid minutes of being hit with firepower
>>
>>98677924
Well no, one that's exactly what the guy does in AC, endure constant weapon fire for minutes straight.
and two, Hire Steel is really cool, but it's entirely a fan animation series based on the Mechwarrior games, not canon Battletech.
If you want to bring up animated series, the old Battletech cartoon, which is an official property, has Nicolai Malthus destroy almost a whole lance solo in under a minute.

>>
>>98675045

>>
>>98678000
There's plenty of actual canon cases of single mechs taking on a lance or more that show up in the novels or TROs, no need to bring the cartoon into it.

I think a Banshee -3S or another high end refit was noted to kill two Dervishes and a Thunderbolt expecting a -3E. In Illusions of Victory, that dezgra Smoke Jaguar in a Mad Dog takes out multiple mechs while holding a bridge.
>>
>>98678020
Battletech The Animated Series is canonically a propaganda cartoon from the Tharkad Broadcasting Company, so the events it depicts mostly did happen, buy nit quite the way as in the cartoon.
>>
>>98677758
I think the idea of the home world clans is to give you the opportunity to have more reasonably strict clan vs clan battles. Since we don't know what's going on over there specifically, you can make up conflicts more or less as you like and have clan vs clan battles with no IS stuff diluding it. I think the problem is though is that alot of people like IS stuff even if it's straight up worse than clan stuff. For example I'll happily take a crab 27sl against advanced clan mechs because even if it's shittier in every way, I know I can squeeze a fair amount of performance out of the jump crab and have gotten plenty of fun victories with it in the past against superior opponents. It's just funner, whereas clan vs clan is probably fun to some people but I think most view it as very sweaty
>>
>>98678044
Anon, in the battletech tabletop game itself mechs are still way more durable than you’d expect thanks to redundant parts and ablative armor.
>>
>>98677906
The funniest thing about this is that a regular Atlas would be able to move way faster than this. This is practically Urbie walking speed.

>>98678078

>>
>>98678078
Mechs in game and in lore can be 1 shotted easily. Just because they can survive more than being 1 shotted does not mean they are what you think they are. Playing a 6 hour game IRL translates to like 2 minutes of battle time in universe. Your mech that tanked a bunch of shots and is a raggedy mess actually got ripped apart in like 15 seconds. Also are we just gonna ignore that light mechs can easily be one shotted and are super common in universe, ergo plenty of mechs are getting blown up in a single shot in lore

That's kinda how early cold war tank combat was when guns got really powerful but armor didn't catch up so you had tanks like the leopard 1 which had no armor and relied on speed and the M60 which relied on jank armor geometry to give it near infinity armor depending on how it got shot
>>
>>98678358

It looks like a fat Rifleman, and as far as MWO balance is concerned it's a massive powercreep (due to quirks to overcompensate for being XL locked) over other fast-assaults (and even slow-heavies like Orion) because "those other chassis has options to not use XL" since the average MWO player unironically thinks not dying after losing an ST with Light Engine is an actual advantage (it's not, they usually die 5 seconds after anyway and losing 2/3rd of your firepower means you're useless)
>>
>>98678381
Be careful about overdrawing lessons from current examples, especially ones defined by mutual air denial. But, hey, Sci-Fi has always been "the last war, but IN SPESS".

Personally, now I'm getting curious about fucking with crit rates. Something like treating BAR 10 the same as 1-9 instead of "impenetrable", and changing the crit table so that anything that gets through WILL cause a crit. First order obvious effect is that the CERPPC gets even more OP, but it would be interesting to experiment with anyway.

It's certain, but I'd rather they buff fast-assaults to not be such a pile of dogshit instead.
As-is, there's little reason for playing stuff like fast NSR-9FC or fast-Cyclops (and slow-Cyclops are just shittier Atlas) or the like.
The best IS fast-assault (to be run as such) on that game is probably just the Zeus (relatively recent buff so it actually has decent quirks).

Retarded Compfags running that game will unironically just tell you that those chassis/variants don't need buffs because their slow-assault builds (that are just boatslop/shittier version of actual slow assaults) are doing "fine".
>>
>>98678526
Ternary computing actually has a lot of interesting potential applications. You can probably find someone on /g/ who can tell you all about how it's going to save the world, but point being that it's less "shitty" and more "different". Shit that's a bitch to code in binary can be easy in ternary, and vice versa. Hardware does have to be more complicated to cater to ternary, but a lot of the drawbacks that keep us from using it today are more related to the fact that we never really started down that tech tree, so we have 60 years of refinement, tooling and code base for using binary computers.

Fast assaults are almost always a mistake in MWO, same reason the Gargoyle and Naga sucks. They're just heavies with even bigger hit boxes, just bring a 75 tonner instead.
3-4 80 tonners will always struggle against the brick wall of 3-4 95-100 tonners.

Only reason is if you are dropping with a full lance and you have the tonnage to boost one of your heavies into a light assault.
>>
>>98678653
They're only garbage because for some reason they're handicapped with overweight engine/other issues and whoever does the quirks for them doesn't think to give them enough quirks to make up for it.

The Naga is the best example for this since it's reminiscent to the pre-buff Gargoyle (from around 2 years back) where it has similar traits sans the quirks.
The current Gargoyle with its buttload of quirks is actually not that bad if you can be bothered to learn to play with low weapon mounts.

The gargoyle has very little to offer compared to just bringing an Executioner and having more armor + guns and the option of jump jets.

Unless you are restrained by weight, there is zero reason to ever queue as a 80 tonner.
Victor? Bring a highlander instead.
etc

Speaking of the Naga, if Arrow IVs didn't get kneecapped during map select, it might actually have been good.
>>
>>98678801
>Naga
I was refering more to the Naga-IIs since on MWO they're pretty much just "higher alpha Gargoyle" which is as much a product of creatively bankrupt quirking just to have it be different from the Gargoyle.

>Victor
It has some excuse to bring over the Highlander.
Stuff like 2HGR+JJ poptart (total ass to play against) or something like the -100% jam variant (which the HGN doesn't have).

And speaking of the Highlander, the Clan Highlander is unironically worse than the IS one IMO
>Worse agility
>Shittier JJ quirks
>Shittier hitpoints because cXL tax even though both IS and Clan Highlander dies from CT (making IS XL not as big of a downside) more often than not
Not to mention that the IS Highlander has Heavy Metal SBG+2HPPC poptarts going around cheesing and farming the living shit out of people.

Also the Executioner on MWO is only good because of retarded podmixing for energyboating, its So8 quirks are still pretty atrocious.
As is with most omnis really, those niggas thinks podmixing to boat shit are all they're for.
They'd unironically groan seeing actual So8/semi-lore accurate builds like a bunch of fags.

Heavy tanks usually need a lot of fire power to go down in a turn.
If it gets immobilized it will die quickly due to called shots but that means it lasted at least 2 turns under fire.

Fitting in the armaments required use of a custom built composite engine. The TDR-TDR's testing discovered that Thunderbolt missiles converging on the same target had a pronounced tendency to collide in midair and prematurely detonate. Yes, because it means you're using a shit model. A Rifleman has 2 identical looking gun barrels in each arm, otherwise it's not a legitimate or game legal Rifleman.
>>
>>98679377
It's the minimum standard for good information conveyance with the level of unit customization in MWO. If you face-check a corner and find an enemy, the faster you can identify lasers, PPCs and ACs, the faster you can make the push/retreat decision (and back in the 3025 standard at launch, there were a lot less exceptions to the guidelines those weapons encouraged). And you're sure as fuck not buying enough gold mechs to justify going back and giving the Warhammer a way to mount flamers in the arms that looks good.
>>
>>98679498
>Info conveyance
With how much of a grebble mess the models are in actual maps along with garish paintjobs people use you're better off just using your peripheral vision to read the paperdoll weapon list of your target assuming you're not an unironic babby's first game boomer player which makes up most of MWO's playerbase.

Unless you're at 500m+, the paperdoll weapon list shows up in like quarter of a second.
Especially because of how mandatory it generally is to take the info speed skill nodes just to have access to seismic.

And besides, anyone who's played long enough would recognize most of the popular cheeseboat farming variants that people pretty much run exclusively (especially by the same tryhard farming fags) to the point that the weapon list is kind of redundant.
>>
>>98679650
Been a while since I played MWO, is seismic mandatory now for some reason?
>>
>>98679677
There's just no reason to not take seismic.
>Check if there's someone around the corner
>Check if someone's trying to sneak up on you

Of course it has its limits like how it wouldn't save you from getting backstabbed by 9heavysmall firemoths with their 58 damage alpha to your rear.
Or how its range limitations still lets 4HML+ECM firemoths to shoot at you outside of seismic range.
>>
>>98679498
If you wanted visual "information conveyance" you're playing the wrong game. Every mech looks like an eyesore that only conveys "gunbag." All they had to do was not throw out the original models instead of firing every last bit of talent at their circus studio.

Story time
There has been a change in leadership, the Malthus bloodname now claims this cursed star. For the summoner won the final duel against the innersphere surat in a venerable Highlander-732 with a white color scheme. It was no match for the elementals and Fire moth however, Malthus landing the killing blow after claiming the highground for dramatic effect. (And because an earlier SRM missile from fleeing Elementals had damaged the Highlanders Fire control.
Seeing as the Warhawk pilot fled the battlefield first and got the near irreplacable Warhawk destroyed with an engine hit while limping away. He would have to settle for Piloting Their second Summoner of the B missile boat variety.
The Fire moth for their valient efforts ferrying elemental's around and backstabbing invaders.
The speed demon pilot earned some omnipod upgrades to the Fire moth Fire Moth H varient, the laser boat ditching all the fancy electronics and tag, to instead focus on pure damage. The bravery of the young cadet earning them this reward.

New roster: The absolute most clan jade falcon shit bucket star.
Bane
Bane 3
Summoner B
Summoner M (New Commander)
Fire Moth H

The mysterious factory fresh cyclops CP-11-G with endosteel and ferrofibrous weathering the hail of fire from both banes long enough to escape back to drac territory with the combat report. With three mercs managing to limp away with their mechs barely intact, myomers exposed and weapons destroyed. The commander of the mercenary company was pryed from his cock pit by elemental's and claimed as bondsman.
No clan fatalities
16 elemental battle suits damaged, but fully recovered, elementals all intact if shaken after MRM and autocannon fire.

The old give way to the new, such is the way of the clans.

I would argue a suicide drone would be equivalent to a really accurate Thunderbolt missile, since BAR10 is explicitly supposed to be objectively far better than modern day armor and advanced ECCM is a natural part of a Mech's software.
A mech could dodge, it could also even shoot at it if it's a slow moving drone that it picks up easily with its sensors, and at the very least AMS should apply to it.
>>
Bullet Suicide Drone
>The Booby Trap can be activated during the Weapons Attack or Physical Attack phase; It activates immediately and completely destroys the unit carrying it. When activated the Booby Trap inflicts damage in a manner similar to an artillery strike to ground units. Just because they exist doesn't mean it's ok for you to do it too. I could see IS Protos being used as a second chance unit for crippled Mechwarriors who want to keep fighting in a mech. With how big the IS is, the Dispossessed are a dime a dozen and a lot of them are desperate for some kind of glory because Mechwarriors tend to be nuts desu.

They're mistake is trying to make people in the Inner Sphere too reasonable. Tons of these systems should be full of third world tier nigs who are constantly dealing with the consequences of Successor States fighting each other, getting into a proto because it's cheaper and easier to field at the cost of their own lives would be a no brainer if it meant setting up their family with money or dying young from getting caught in the crossfire anyway.

At the very least, IS Protos would have made a fun mook unit for proper mechs to mow down to feel cool.
>>
>>98682102
I like this idea. Probably would expand it to include ultralight territory here like really shitty poorly armed and armored tiny mechs but anything is better than nothing approach.

They could also repurpose protomechs rules as Star League combat robots from 2750. Fluff constantly talks about them so why not finally make a few official units?
>>
>>98682102
>because it's cheaper and easier to field
Protos are 100% Clantech with a dash of Clan medical tech.

But I'd be down for an assault BA-only wheeled/tracked movement system that actually pushes BA into the 8-movement range on pavement. Probably while maxing them out at 10 points of armour. That seems like a sensible thing.

Invasive, expensive medical tech. IS VDNI also works for protos as proven by the blakists, but VDNI is a cyberpunk style brain hookup installed in the back of your skull. You need specialized medical manufacturing to create it and specialized surgeons to install it.
>>
>>98682102
I like the idea of them shifting protomechs to be like heavy gears, smaller machines with their own weapons and combat meta. Obviously inferior to battlemechs but it would still be cool to have a mature enough system to have protomech vs protomech fights. It would also be cool to have traditional vehicles in it as well be more of a big deal, like a heavy tank being mobility mogged by a protomech but also being much more heavily armed than one as well. Having them basically be cheaper mechs is neat. They should go all in on mobility equipment for them, like skates or wheeled feet or hover equipment to boost their mobility up a ton. Keeping them reductive and being emo about body modification is a dumb pigeon hole to force the tech into. The IS should take them and "fix" them for more general use as cheaper mech alternatives for garrison units who plan on fighting other traditional vehicles
