Kill a Kuritan.
What's the best Sunder variant?
>>98674701A and it's not even close.
>>98674701A or D.
>>98674352If you mean 'Mech designed for use in space, then yeah there are a few variants. What immediately comes to mind is the Shadow Hawk IIC 7.
>>98671918Acceptable, though I think the Ostscout could be swapped out for something more mass murder-y. I guess somebody has to find the victims for the other three.
>>98674701Prime
A broken clock is right twice a day I guess, I saw the bad mechs article and thought it was the usual mech he wanted to talk about with some negligible flaw but then I looked at the spats. Who makes a light post-clan invasion that only goes 5/8?
>>98674983>Who makes a light post-clan invasion that only goes 5/8?Nigga, the Taurians made Wasp 1A's into the Jihad.
>>98675032Wait, being retarded, read that as 6/9. 5/8, god damn.
>>98674623Did people like the FedCom Civil War?
>>98674983The jumpjets and near max armor at least make it almost forgivable, but then you question why bother with 11 DHS, no CASE, having the loadout be entirely close range weapons.
>>98675045a lot of people don't, especially Fedrats, but a lot of other people like it, especially people introduced to the setting through MW4.
>>98675045The reasoning was idiotic, but I liked it in general. The FedCom was always going to have to explode.
>>98675045The plot progression is shit and it's sidegrade city, but some people hang out there because it's the last real FASA plot. Also was the last time the Mechwarrior Videogames followed the current timeline. Forever 67 was real thing just like Forever 3145. God, imagine that the difference between 3025 and the Clan Invasion was less than the Fedcom Civil War in total.Fucking plot drags on so long, now. Haven't we been in 3152 for almost 4 years?
>>98675045Could've been better written, but I didn't hate it as much as a lot of people. It feels like it fits into the overall trend of real history with the inherent instability of big empires or supra-national power blocs.
>>98675070Victor winning the war and then stepping down and breaking up his country is beyond maximum retard.>Teehee, thanks for supporting me bros, but get Focht, I'm going back to Comstar!
>Artillery was considered the king of battle>Infantry was considered the queen of battle>Battlemechs have largely usurped the importance of both with their combination of all-terrain versatility, sheer toughness, and immense firepowerWould it be accurate to say that Battlemechs are the "Emperor" of the battlefield then?
>>98674683Nuke Capellans. They deserve it. Let's pull off a Turtle Bay on them.
>>98675088Anon, the title "Lords of the Battlefield" and the legendary Battletech website exist for a reason, though the latter is a shadow of the ancient days.
>>98674983It'd be forgivable if you're making some cheapoid garrison trooper, but that's about it.
>>98675045At the time it was happening it felt pretty enjoyable. I was unhappy that Katherine wasn't killed and downright pissed that faggot Victor gave in to Vlad's ultimatum rather than having him and his entourage killed and sending their severed heads back to Clan space.
Did the Com Guards use any BA in Tukayyid/CI era?
>>98675098I was more of an HPG Uplink guy.
>>98675088>>Battlemechs have largely usurped the importance of both with their combination of all-terrain versatility, sheer toughness, and immense firepowerRemember MechWarrior...
>>98674701I am horribly surprised that MWO and the pig of all things managed to pull off making the sunder look fucking cool as shit.
>>98675129Battlemechs don't have to be invincible to be the lords of battle, they just have to be better than everything else, which they are. You're not secretly a 'badass' for being a tank crewman, you're a cost inefficient disposable pawn fielded by those too poor to afford the good weapons, any mechs your combined tank force does manage to down will pale in comparison to the losses you've sustained.
>>98675192>any mechs your combined tank force does manage to down will pale in comparison to the losses you've sustained.Says the poofer riding atop a million+ Cbill Fusion Engine on legs...
>>98675202The mechs use the fusion engine because it's the only vehicle that makes sense to put a fusion engine in. Why put a fusion engine in a tank when even the lightest of mechs can one-shot it with a TAC?
>>98675079That's the retarded part, plus everything around the RoTS, but the conflict itself is pretty cool.
>>98675032Brother, they make primitive Toros right up through ilclan. And Firebees, actually. The Toro is a 4/6 with a large laser and two SRM-2s. The Firebee is a 5/8 with an LRM-5 and three SRM-2s.
>>98675210>Why put a fusion engine in a tank when even the lightest of mechs can one-shot it with a TAC?Why have skimpy rear armor if it allows your MIGHTY BattleMech to be TAC'd just the same?
>>98675202That has me wondering. Battlemechs 1v1 are better than CVs, but Battlemechs are often given all the best equipment while CVs are meant to better fit the budget/logistics.But if you have the technical ability, isn't even a budget mech still better than a tank? Like, if you built a super cheap militia mech with an ICE engine and stuff like Chem Lasers, Rocket Launchers, and vanilla Ballistics, would that superiority still be there or would a tank be better?
>>98675045The what? You're delusional. No such event has or ever will transpire. The glorious fedcom and its close allies the DC, lead by Archon Elizabeth Kurita and Co-ordinator Akatsuki Steiner-Davion respectively continue to stand strong against the rapacious marauding 'ilclan' and the now sphere wide and onfion terror insurgency of the Blakists. Word Jihadists strike seemingly at random for little or no reason, so the two houses are stretched thin reinforcing as many planets as possible. But not all planets CAN be reinforced with a standing company or three of mechs, and others are just unfortunately, not worth enough to make the expense justified. So thay is why parts of the FedCom have rebelled and gone rogue, claiming they're hard done by. Other worlds variably rebel against 'aint no kurita bitch gonna rule us lyrans/federals' or 'no steiner davion is a true dragon'...But the fed com and the DC remain the ONLY real co-operating power blocs stymying the clanner trash. As such, they're the setting 'good guys'.
As has been explained ad naeuseum, vees are your strategic defence asset. You build them as much as possible and you ship them maybe ONCE to go where they will be stationed forever as defence assets, because using them tactically and or offensively is just logistically far, far too costly. You ALSO build and have as many mecjs as you can, because they are your tactical forces, they CAN be moved around cheaply, so they're your reinforcements, they are your attack assets.
Tanks are easier to build so just build tons of them as your stupid mooks/static garrison forcesMechs are better and more efficient when it comes to moving around firepower across space, so build as many as you can for your elastic force. Or just be Star League and have the resources and logistics to field entire armies or Mechs that can be moved wherever and whenever you want
>>98675254Indeed.Mech Jocks think they're hot shit, but a true MechWarrior understand that, while he might be the most CONCENTRATED bundle of armor and weapons Planetside, he is not necessary the only one.
>>98675232The problem with vehicles is mostly that they can randomly die much easier than mechs, and if they don't, they'll rack up movement losses very quickly. A peppering of SRMs or LBX pellets might randomly hit a mechs head, but it's a lot more likely to make a tank roll on a crit or motive chart, and there are results on both that can cripple it.
>>98675228Because you only have a 1/6 chance to TAC anything important.
>>98675287Plus if a mech actually lets itself get backstabbed by a tank, it kinda deserves it.
>>98675307Yeah the whole tankfag cope is honestly kind of pathetic. Yes, a tank can theoretically take out a mech in the same way a child soldier can theoretically take out a Delta Force operative, but that doesn't mean the Delta Force operative hasn't earned their reputation or that the child soldier is secretly the REAL badass of the battlefield.
>next mw5 dlc will have Black Hawk KUI take back everything I ever said, I love PGI I love their artstyle and I love MW5
>>98675045But of course, it's my favorite era.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEEzKNQ9iFE
>>98675108>and downright pissed that faggot Victor gave in to Vlad's ultimatum rather than having him and his entourage killed and sending their severed heads back to Clan space. This was actually okay in my opinion.Executing Katherine would have been hard. Leaving her around would have risked her trying for the throne(s) again. Inescapable exile was a good solution.
>>98675307>tank with a hatchet
>>98675232The thing about Battletech is that it completely reverses the usual dynamic.IRL, mechs would be more valued for their mobility, but would be very fragile compared to tanks. This is what you tend to see in eastern mecha shows, mechs are mobile, but very fragile and prone to exploding with a single hit.In Battletech, mechs are still more mobile compared to tanks of course, but they're also more durable than tanks thanks to multiple redundant parts and the tendency of the ablative armor of the setting to randomly fail at times allowing shots to pass completely through it, on top of fragile treads that are easily disabled. They're not going for realism, they're going for the mythology of the 'land battleship', a massive weapon that can take volley after volley and keep stomping forward.
>>98675269And to get to the objective, he better BE hot shit, because he's gonna have to wade through all the armour and cav stationed there. He eventually has to sleep, his mech can't walk itself, tankers can switch drivers and can keep fucking driving. So they will most probably be where he is going. This way everyone has fun. Tankers get to have their massed tank battles, and mech guys gwt to have big fights their mech gets to be the hero in. If they live.
>>98675413Manticore, my beloved!
>>98675254>As has been explained ad naeuseum, vees are your strategic defence asset. You build them as much as possible and you ship them maybe ONCE to go where they will be stationed forever as defence assets, because using them tactically and or offensively is just logistically far, far too costly.Battlemechs for raiding.Combine arms for invading.
>>98675487>Combine arms for invading. The advantage of battlemechs is that they can do combined arms all on their own.
>>98675487combined arms is only really viable of you're bringing artillery, otherwise Mechs are still plain better.
>>98675493And even then you might as well use an artillery mech if you can since they're just straight up better than regular artillery.
>>98675489No.>>98675493And again no.
>>98675539The only thing that mechs can't do on the battlefield is clear out buildings without destroying the building itself, but luckily they can carry the infantry that clears out the building for them so that doesn't really matter much.
>>98675504I fucking hate the Helepolis. Probably my least favorite retcon in the game.
>>98675192Spoken lime someone who never walked into a Long Tom killzone.
>>98675587>ImplyingBattlemechs are actually really fucking hard to hit with artillery
Do you think Goblin ISVs make for good S&R vehicles? I'm putting together a support section with stuff like a MASH truck and medivac VTOLs.
>>98675601Everything is really fucking hard to hit with artillery. That's why you don't use 1 tube as if you had an arbitrary limit on how much combat power you're allowed to bring to the fight.
>>98675111No, unless you count Tornado suits. The IS in general didn't have BA until after Tukkayid
Heavy Gear 3 was announced last year and nobody even told me
>>98675609Sure, but by the time you've brought 'enough' artillery the enemy is already bearing down on that artillery with a far superior force of battlemechs.Artillery is fine against infantry, but against something very fast that can tank the hits and is hard to pinpoint? Not so much.
>>98675618Because it's Heavy Gear, not Battletech. Heavy Gear is eastern, Battletech is western, different genres.
>>98675624Canada is eastern?
>>98675624DP9 is canadian
>>98675630Heavy Gear is based on Armored Troopers VOTOMS which is eastern. Battletech...used to be a more eastern setting but since then it's purged most of its eastern stuff.
>>98675609>>98675587Yeah because obviously there's Long Tom artillery parks on every single planet in every single corner of human held space
>>98675633No it hasn't, it's practically more eastern with all the side grades and relative speed boost. You can't even say making them boxier in appearance makes them more western because Japan did boxy mechs first anyway.
>>98675542Prior to 3050 no they couldn't.
>>98675693>it's practically more eastern with all the side grades and relative speed boostNot really, Western Mechs are largely defined by being supremely tanky while Eastern Mechs are much more fragile and tend to explode after a single hit. That's what separates an eastern mech anime like Dougrams from Battletech.
>>98675709>
>>98675619>Sure, but by the time you've brought 'enough' artillery the enemy is already bearing down on that artillery with a far superior force of battlemechs.Long Toms have a range of 30 map sheets (=15km). It'll take some time to get there. Also, you can use Nagas to hit from 9 mapsheets with 5/8 speed.Padilla (Arrow IV) is 5/8, Thor (Thumper) is 5/8. Ballista (Sniper) is only 3/5, though. But BattleTech has decently mobile SP guns. And of course the best Long Tom platform, the Fortress, moves at 3/5 acceleration, which means a few mapsheets per turn.
>>98675730on the other hand, they'd be really vulnerable to even conventional aircraft, let alone ASF, whereas an Artillery Mech is better able to handle attacks from the air.
>>98675719Those still get taken out pretty easily compared to battlemechs
>>98675739they definitely don't
>>98675748Asuka gets taken out by a single Spear of Longinus through the face, her armor didn’t do shit to help her.
So about the upcoming Viking IIC; will it look too different from the original Viking if I want to use it as one? (yes I know you can use an eraser for count-as, I'm just curious how different they will look)
>>98675487>You build them as much as possible and you ship them maybe ONCE to go where they will be stationed forever as defence assets, because using them tactically and or offensively is just logistically far, far too costly.Literally nothing backs that up
>>98675756Posting bait about a series you've never seen is poor form.>"A single spear of Longinus" Firstly, that was a replica, secondly, even as replicas we are describing a reality-warping weapon somewhere between 40 and 80 meters long. The iconic appearance of the original is hand-thrown by an Eva from the ground into low-earth orbit where it instantaneously obliterates an alien lifeform that depending on your interpretation is either divine or sufficiently advanced as an alien species to be functionally divine.Powerscaling fucktards need to fuck back off where they came from. Anime secondaries need to fuck back off where they came from. People who don't want to talk about Batletech, YOU GUESSED IT, need to fuck back off where they came from.
>>98675791>The iconic appearance of the original is hand-thrown by an Eva from the ground into low-earth orbit where it instantaneously obliterates an alien lifeform that depending on your interpretation is either divine or sufficiently advanced as an alien species to be functionally divine.So...thanks for proving my point?Evangelion never had durable mecha (or monsters for that matter) that could tank hit after hit like we see in Battletech.
>>98675783It's got a shorter nose and wider set launchers.
>>98675792Yes anon, except for the impenetrable force-shield that explicitly needs to be nullified by another god entity, the Eva is relatively unarmored.
>>98675797Yes, and? Pitting a battlemech against another battlemech doesn't suddenly mean that it's no longer able to withstand a lot of fire.
>>98675783From the art, I suspect that the minis will look pretty damn similar.
>>98675792>>98675801Fucking retard. The FIST OF FUCKING GOD one-shot an EVA, not by catastrophic damage, but because of pseudo-DNI pilot knockout. The machine was fucking fine.
>>98675839Okay fair enough, that pretty closely resembles how Battlemechs are often disabled by killing the pilots while the rest of the machine continues to function, so we can safely say that Battletech is closer to Evangelion than it is to most real robot anime.
Pretty sure a lance of Alicorns will fuck an equivalent lance of mechs up.
>>98675862I wouldn't count on it, we've run the scenarios for these types of long-range high damage tanks before and it always comes out with the tanks needing a 2:1 advantage to come out with a roughly 50% success rate against mechs of equivalent tonnage.
>>98675858Your problem is that you're missing the forest for the trees, trying to define the difference by symptoms instead of the underlying cause. You can attempt to point out trends, but there will always be exceptions that run contrary to it. Armored Core, for instance, is another good counter-example on the durability front. The bottom-level inflection is that Japanese mecha tends to take mechs as the evolution of infantry, while Western mecha is the evolution of armor. That invokes trends like you observe, but at the same time tanks tend to stop working after one good hit, and infantry staying in the fight despite multiple injuries is a story that has been told in legends and award citations for millennia. The key is in the sum of its assumptions, not in any particular one.
>>98675792>that could tank hit after hit like we see in Battletech.>Also Battletech:
>>98675904>Not pictured: The dozens of shots that the Atlas absorbed on his way to punch that mech in the face
What is the goofiest and therefore best mech in the franchise?
>>98675947Yeoman IIC when
>>98675947Funniest part is this goofy little fucker is objectively one of the best Light Mechs in Introtech. No wonder Dracs love it so much.
>>98675899NTA but the infantry view of mechs always did make more sense imo, I love battletech but it's view on mechs as being land battleships always felt kinda odd when the real advantage of a mech is that it's literally just a bigger stronger infantryman. You should never expect a mech to do tank things because it's not a tank, it'd be too fragile to do tank things really, Battletech universe aside.
>>98676003>fragile Why? An armor penetration doesn't go into central crew compartment.
>>98676003It should be noted that the whole 'land battleship' thing where they're just tanking hits is mostly a late thing that stems from vidya limitations. From the start Battlemechs are meant to be like knights, moving around in human like ways, aiming their hand canons like guns, and getting into physical brawls. The game still reflects that in the way even, in the way they can climb, go prone, adhoc clubs like trees and rebar to bash each other, etc etc, there's just not asuvh focus on that. Gotta remember Mechs only move as slow as they do in stuff like MWO is because when they made the Jenner true to the source material, the devs couldn't hit it at all, so they purposely slowed down movement speeds.
>>98676010>An armor penetration doesn't go into central crew compartment.Because it's a bigger target in general. If you stood a tank up so that it's bottom is facing the enemy, there would be 'more tank to hit' but it wouldn't be safer by every stretch of the imagination. What would be a near miss when shooting at a tank would end up being a hit when shooting at a mech because it's a bigger profile to shoot at. If having more parts genuinely made vehicles safer then we would add random limbs attached to tanks that do nothing but just stick out in the air for the enemy to shoot at.
>>98676003Well, that's what happens when you adapt from naval wargame rules.>>98676010The defining feature of warships out of all military hardware is that the crew has to live for months on end aboard the ship. That results in a lot of the ship's volume being dedicated to things that aren't critical to keeping it afloat and operational in the middle of a fight. If you punch a hole in a tank, it is very difficult to NOT hit something vital that's either going to disable it or make the crew get the fuck out of that situation. Ships, on the other hand, tend to be very tough-until-they're-not, as a consequence of having so many things you can hit that won't degrade its fighting ability, leading to a case where ships either sink because>1: you've damned near physically ripped it apart>2: it fucking explodes out of nowhereThat's the real "battleship" aspect of BattleMechs: how unpredictable their durability can be.
>>98675995The only post-Star League Mech that the Clans felt the need to IIC-ify.
>>98676003>when the real advantage of a mech is that it's literally just a bigger stronger infantryman.I mean, that's Battle Armor, isn't it? Classic power armored infantry.'Mechs are, and always have been, walking tanks.
>>98676030>Ships, on the other hand, tend to be very tough-until-they're-not, as a consequence of having so many things you can hit that won't degrade its fighting ability, leading to a case where ships either sink becauseNot just ships.
>>98676202>I mean, that's Battle Armor, isn't it?And a protomech is just bigger battle armor. And a mech is just a bigger protomech. >'Mechs are, and always have been, walking tanks. In Battletech, yes. Although, ironically, in Battletech tanks aren't even tanks.
HONOR THE DRAGON!
>>98675858Eva's not even a mecha series. That "armor" is a containment suit for the organism beneath it, an Eva's only true defense is its AT field, and because it's metaphysical energy it's impervious to conventional weaponry. Comparing one to a 'mech isn't even a case of apples vs oranges, it's a case of apples vs Sharknado.
>>98675395>>tank with a hatchet"We call it the 'Extinguisher'!">>98675422>And to get to the objective, he better BE hot shit, because he's gonna have to wade through all the armour and cav stationed there.EXACTLY!Just because your grand daddy ran off with a Locust when the Star League fell doesn't mean you inherited whatever skill he had along when you got his Mech!>>98675619>Sure, but by the time you've brought 'enough' artillery the enemy is already bearing down on that artillery with a far superior force of battlemechs.Spoken like the rube who falls for the "Bait" artillery...You didn't even question why that lone gun was sitting in a crater, did you?>>98675756>Asuka gets taken out by a single Spear of Longinus through the faceA) It was a replica of the Spear that allegedly killed the Son of GodB) They actually used a lot more than one:https://youtu.be/0AY27gLWhtM?si=g8IckKAx0Vesayfu&t=1083>>98676017>If having more parts genuinely made vehicles safer then we would add random limbs attached to tanks that do nothing but just stick out in the air for the enemy to shoot at.I'm going to be pissed if the Russians develop the Battlemech...

>>98676353>Two regiments of IS standard were deployed by the Combine at Luthien anon and the Gray Death were using them before that.Fucking how? The Dracs only had four Elemental suits to reverse-engineer from after Wolcott, and the GDL never captured any much less have the means to develop and produce.
>>98676381Secured a Fiat factory I presume? IS BA was something they did churn out pretty quickly with the GDL getting theirs from the NAIS. Supposedly the Luthien ones were very early prototypes that thrown directly into battle but again the writers don't let us see it.
>>98676400>the GDL getting theirs from the NAISWho got theirs from WHERE? Blake's hairy ballsack, it's no wonder no one but the grognardest of grogs takes this setting seriously. There's better internal consistency in Looney Tunes episodes.
>>98676381What's the source on that? Not that I don't believe, but I need to see the idiocy myself.>it's gonna be shrapnel
>>98676423Lethal Heritage novel has the Battle of Wolcott.
>>98676381My bad, 4 Omnimechs and 24 Elemental suits.
>>98676198Well, they took it with them and Clan Wolf was using it in 2824
>>98676432I very much do not remember IS BA in those chapters.
>>98676418They had them fighting the Clans as early as 3051 apparently building them with zero clue what they were doing.>>98676423Sources are a hot mess of old sourcebooks and I can't remember the exact pages exactly but you're looking at Clan Troops, Lostech The MechWarrior Equipment Guide, TRO 3058U and Luthien.
>>98676439Holy retcons, Batman!IIRC original lore is that the Dragoons were so impressed that they brought some back.I guess it's technically possible that the SLDF took plans for the DCMS's brand new scout Mech that was only introduced as the Exodus was already occurring.
>>98676445Because they didn't exist until after Wolcott. The point is that there wasn't enough time between Wolcott and Luthien for the Dracs to reverse-engineer the Elemental suits, develop a working version of them for IS troops, make the suits, train the wearers, and have two regiments worth of them ready for the Luthien battle.
>>98676457And from 3055U
>>98676460I quoted the wrong post. Them capturing suits on Wolcott I definitely believe. I meant for the suits on Luthien (or Tukayyid for that matter). This is more fucking annoying than DHS everywhere in 3039.
I've got a question about how clan Nova's (Mech + Elemental binary) work for the lore experts lurking in the thread While sarna says that it is usually five omnimechs and five elementals it also says that there are exceptions among the clans. So what if two of those mechs are as slow as the elementals? (Meaning they just have to jog next to the banes, or take turns riding the 3/2 omnimechs if they haven't been getting in their cardio.)400PV Faction: Clan Jade Falcon Era: Clan invasion to Ilclan era (Ending up as remnants in the hinterlands.)"Binary" to fight against a mercenary company of 12, so that the activation's don't become too lopsided while remaining fluffy.Command starBane (Commander who is mockingly called the merchant commander by other stars who aren't as competent at managing logistic lines as him.)Bane 3 (Beautiful scouring sands sculpt btw, but I haven't painted it yet.)Warhawk B (Has a SNARC but gets replaced with a Marauder IIC once the Warhawk goes extinct within Clan Jade Falcon after the Jihad.)Summoner M (You dare refuse my Batchall!?)Fire Moth A (Battle bus with a Tag and an active probe, what more do you need when you have a Bane 3?)Support star5x Elementals with machineguns. All mechs and elementals are Skill 3 (Making the Bane 3 cost 83PV, combat initiative on this thing is brutal however.)TLDR: Can I call my commander a Nova commander, or would a second-line garrison star be denied the privilege and only end up named as star commander?
>>98676460>The point is that there wasn't enough time between Wolcott and Luthien for the Dracs to reverse-engineer the Elemental suits, develop a working version of them for IS troops, make the suits, train the wearers, and have two regiments worth of them ready for the Luthien battle. From 1993
>>98676471Five points of elementals, not just five elementals.
>>98676473Militia regiments, even?CGL are such fucking hacks.
>>98676471The whole point of a Nova is the greater mobility from Omnis, but it's your game.

>>98676482>Just run Dire Wolves.I refuse, nothing screams clan jade falcon quite like running two Banes. But seeing as there is no way in hell my commander would earn the title of "star captain" for commanding a "binary" of mechs + elementals.I guess the lore friendly naming would be Star commander + a support star of elementals? Just trying to get all the names right and the Nova sounded neat, so wanted to check with someone more into the organizational side.>>98676488>it's your gameWell I'm asking because I don't have the original description of a clan nova and sarna mentioned that sometimes they have a mix of elementals and tanks for the second star.
>>98676491That entire book reeks of post-event justifications for how the Jags and Cats could lose, magical BA militia troops must be the only thing he could think of to counter the Elementals.
Hey are Light Blazers canon now?Could we have a Jenner with L-Blazers?
>>98676509Its arguably the opposite. They massively reduce the IS forces available to try and make it seem like a closer battle than it should have been. The Kitty Cat Clans realistically would have had no chance taking a capital world with a population in the billions with the forces they had.
>>98676527>billionsOf mechs? Because civilians don't matter when fighting either elementals or mechs.
>>98676533A mechwarrior who does not fear infantry is no mechwarrior at all. That said this same sourcebook implies they are recruiting retired old men and young boys to fight which when you think about it makes it feel like they skipped over an entire viable population pool and went straight to scraping the bottom of the barrel.
>>98676560Or alternatively said mechwarrior is piloting a Piranha. It does not matter how many illiterate rice farmers you send against this thing, it will have run back and reloaded before you've replaced the entire battalion it just deleted from existence before its ammo bins ran dry.
>>98676567And even if you don't have a dedicated anti-infantry option, the whole point of Omnimechs is for stuff like this. Just change out your pods for a better loadout against infantry and wipe them out, easy.

>>98676595>full Space NamElementals have flamer variants you know, what is your rice farmer going to do against a genetically engineered super human in power armor that can tank an AC10 hit with 360 degree vision, jump jets and enough strength to rip a mechwarrior screaming from their cockpit?

>>98677417I think it’s fair to say that the original inspirations for BT were anime, but it’s since moved into being much more of a western setting, both in the politics of the setting and how the mechs function.
As long as jumpjets and the Phoenix hawk exists then Battletech will always be anime.
>>98677447>politicsYes but also no? There are plenty of jap mecha anime with crazy political plots that would be right at home in BT>mech function No, flat out no. There is no way to rationalize how a Phoenix Hawk moves without it being very anime. Plenty of other mechs "suffer" from this reality as well. Again, mechwarrior has broken your mind, BT hasnt "matured" or "moved on" from anime much at all and you are coping massively trying to think you are better than something that you aren't
>>98676523No. You wouldn't want to put something cool in the game that people play. That might sell product.
>>98677472>There are plenty of jap mecha anime with crazy political plots that would be right at home in BTLike what?>No, flat out no. There is no way to rationalize how a Phoenix Hawk moves without it being very animeNo? You haven’t watched much anime if you think they all have fast moving mechs. The original Dougrams anime actually had mechs far slower and more fragile than what we see in Battletech. The one consistency we tend to see between the real robot anime settings and the western mech settings is that western mech settings treat their mechs like landships, whereas eastern mech settings generally tend to treat their real robot mechs with more fragility. Battletech is firmly in the former category.
>>98677496You are just wrong and retarded. Keep coping you like weebshit with extra steps

>>98677447>I think it’s fair to say that the original inspirations for BT were animeIt's misleading, actually. They used giant robot designs from Japan, but the sauce beneath it is classic and period US scifi literature.
>>98677496Can you actually name a single 'western mech' setting that follows that train of logic?

>>98677790Except they all have something in common, their mechs are much more durable than Japan’s
>>98677790>>98677802>Get's sliced in half in a single stroke>More durable
>>98677802>their mechs are much more durable than Japan’sNTA but that really depends on the anime.Armored cores for example are insanely durable and eat more missiles and shots to the face than most assault mechs, unless you're running an ultra light build.
>>98677802Sure if you've never watched any mecha anime before. Evangelions have divine forcefields, the original RX-78-2 from Gundam was built with a special titanium plating that made it practically invulnerable to regular weapon fire, Ideon was an invulnerable super weapon, etc etc. The idea that Mechs in anime are fragile is made up, you watched some flashy gifs and made up a trope in your head. Not to mention turns in BT are literal seconds, it's entirely possible to kill Mechs in a turn or two, and even cause ammo explosions, and present the same kind of destruction you claim stems from inherent fragility.
>>98677837Maybe the old games but the newest armored core was basically dark souls and relied on not getting hit in the first place
>>98677856Nah you can still get hit plenty, it's definitely faster but face tanking can be a legit strategy if you know what you're doing. Hell there was a guy who played through the game with a BT Atlas build.https://youtu.be/-N5Hj3TbINM
>>98677906Sure but it’s nothing close to what we saw in Hired Steel with the mechs enduring 2 solid minutes of being hit with firepower
>>98677924Well no, one that's exactly what the guy does in AC, endure constant weapon fire for minutes straight.and two, Hire Steel is really cool, but it's entirely a fan animation series based on the Mechwarrior games, not canon Battletech. If you want to bring up animated series, the old Battletech cartoon, which is an official property, has Nicolai Malthus destroy almost a whole lance solo in under a minute.
>>98678000What's canonic about it is that it's a cartoon.
>>98678014which still makes it more canon then Hired Steel
>>98677209A Ghibli/Aardman co-production would fix the world.
>>98677199There's a lot of everyone in the FWL. Their heritage encompasses every landmass on Earth, including Antarctica if you count the penguins at the polar wildlife preserve on Mulhacen.
>>98677856Anon I think you may just straight up be retarded and not know what the fuck you are talking about in general
>>98677802you have overexposure to the mechwarrior games, where armor values are doubled to protect the feelings of gamers
>>98675045It's okay, but also highlights how badly Battletech clings to setting stasis. Though not as bad as Jihad and Dark Age.
>>98678000There's plenty of actual canon cases of single mechs taking on a lance or more that show up in the novels or TROs, no need to bring the cartoon into it.I think a Banshee -3S or another high end refit was noted to kill two Dervishes and a Thunderbolt expecting a -3E. In Illusions of Victory, that dezgra Smoke Jaguar in a Mad Dog takes out multiple mechs while holding a bridge.
>>98678020Battletech The Animated Series is canonically a propaganda cartoon from the Tharkad Broadcasting Company, so the events it depicts mostly did happen, buy nit quite the way as in the cartoon.
>>98677758I think the idea of the home world clans is to give you the opportunity to have more reasonably strict clan vs clan battles. Since we don't know what's going on over there specifically, you can make up conflicts more or less as you like and have clan vs clan battles with no IS stuff diluding it. I think the problem is though is that alot of people like IS stuff even if it's straight up worse than clan stuff. For example I'll happily take a crab 27sl against advanced clan mechs because even if it's shittier in every way, I know I can squeeze a fair amount of performance out of the jump crab and have gotten plenty of fun victories with it in the past against superior opponents. It's just funner, whereas clan vs clan is probably fun to some people but I think most view it as very sweaty
>>98678044Anon, in the battletech tabletop game itself mechs are still way more durable than you’d expect thanks to redundant parts and ablative armor.
>>98677906The funniest thing about this is that a regular Atlas would be able to move way faster than this. This is practically Urbie walking speed.Everything else is kosher, hell even the repair kits could be represented on the TT with a Harjel II/III repair system installed.
>>98678078And it's still entirely possible to kill a mech in a single turn.
>>98678089Sure, just a lot harder and a lot rarer than doing it to a tank
>>98678083Another thing to keep in mind about movement in AC6 is that Rubicon very obviously has less gravity than Earth.
>>98678078Mechs in game and in lore can be 1 shotted easily. Just because they can survive more than being 1 shotted does not mean they are what you think they are. Playing a 6 hour game IRL translates to like 2 minutes of battle time in universe. Your mech that tanked a bunch of shots and is a raggedy mess actually got ripped apart in like 15 seconds. Also are we just gonna ignore that light mechs can easily be one shotted and are super common in universe, ergo plenty of mechs are getting blown up in a single shot in lore
>>98678199But how can Anon feel super spechal 'cus of his Granddaddy?!
>>98678199>mechs tear each other to shreds in the span of two minutes>And they’re all like five times as durable as their tank equivalents >Meaning being a tank crewman in this universe is basically showing up to battle and being atomized within the first 10 secondsWell that’s grimdark
>>98678317Working as intended.
>>98678317That's kinda how early cold war tank combat was when guns got really powerful but armor didn't catch up so you had tanks like the leopard 1 which had no armor and relied on speed and the M60 which relied on jank armor geometry to give it near infinity armor depending on how it got shot
>>98678358Well tbf that would 100% take out a mech too, if we were going for “realism” you’d have battlemechs being taken out by long range drones with fiber optic cables but that’s not very fun or conducive to a mech game
>>98675140It looks like a fat Rifleman, and as far as MWO balance is concerned it's a massive powercreep (due to quirks to overcompensate for being XL locked) over other fast-assaults (and even slow-heavies like Orion) because "those other chassis has options to not use XL" since the average MWO player unironically thinks not dying after losing an ST with Light Engine is an actual advantage (it's not, they usually die 5 seconds after anyway and losing 2/3rd of your firepower means you're useless)
>>98678381Be careful about overdrawing lessons from current examples, especially ones defined by mutual air denial. But, hey, Sci-Fi has always been "the last war, but IN SPESS".Personally, now I'm getting curious about fucking with crit rates. Something like treating BAR 10 the same as 1-9 instead of "impenetrable", and changing the crit table so that anything that gets through WILL cause a crit. First order obvious effect is that the CERPPC gets even more OP, but it would be interesting to experiment with anyway.
>>98678381Gotta remember that BT doesn't have 1:1 tech as us because they code in trinary not binary, which makes everything shittier and more complicated iirc
>>98678078>in the battletech tabletop game itself mechs are still way more durableVery little survives getting sandblasted by Bane 3's
>>98678398>MWOLol Said the CommandoLmao evenThey will nerf all of the Sunders quirks once it becomes available for Cbills
>>98678574It's certain, but I'd rather they buff fast-assaults to not be such a pile of dogshit instead.As-is, there's little reason for playing stuff like fast NSR-9FC or fast-Cyclops (and slow-Cyclops are just shittier Atlas) or the like. The best IS fast-assault (to be run as such) on that game is probably just the Zeus (relatively recent buff so it actually has decent quirks).Retarded Compfags running that game will unironically just tell you that those chassis/variants don't need buffs because their slow-assault builds (that are just boatslop/shittier version of actual slow assaults) are doing "fine".
>>98678526Ternary computing actually has a lot of interesting potential applications. You can probably find someone on /g/ who can tell you all about how it's going to save the world, but point being that it's less "shitty" and more "different". Shit that's a bitch to code in binary can be easy in ternary, and vice versa. Hardware does have to be more complicated to cater to ternary, but a lot of the drawbacks that keep us from using it today are more related to the fact that we never really started down that tech tree, so we have 60 years of refinement, tooling and code base for using binary computers.
What is this guy getting up to in 3152?
>>98678601Fast assaults are almost always a mistake in MWO, same reason the Gargoyle and Naga sucks. They're just heavies with even bigger hit boxes, just bring a 75 tonner instead.3-4 80 tonners will always struggle against the brick wall of 3-4 95-100 tonners.Only reason is if you are dropping with a full lance and you have the tonnage to boost one of your heavies into a light assault.
>>98678653They're only garbage because for some reason they're handicapped with overweight engine/other issues and whoever does the quirks for them doesn't think to give them enough quirks to make up for it.The Naga is the best example for this since it's reminiscent to the pre-buff Gargoyle (from around 2 years back) where it has similar traits sans the quirks. The current Gargoyle with its buttload of quirks is actually not that bad if you can be bothered to learn to play with low weapon mounts.
>>98678639The upside down me262 is getting ready to take back rightful lyran clay from the jade falcon remnants, presumably.
>>98678317If you think that's bad, try being infantry.
>>98678671The gargoyle has very little to offer compared to just bringing an Executioner and having more armor + guns and the option of jump jets.Unless you are restrained by weight, there is zero reason to ever queue as a 80 tonner.Victor? Bring a highlander instead. etcSpeaking of the Naga, if Arrow IVs didn't get kneecapped during map select, it might actually have been good.
>>98678801>NagaI was refering more to the Naga-IIs since on MWO they're pretty much just "higher alpha Gargoyle" which is as much a product of creatively bankrupt quirking just to have it be different from the Gargoyle.>VictorIt has some excuse to bring over the Highlander.Stuff like 2HGR+JJ poptart (total ass to play against) or something like the -100% jam variant (which the HGN doesn't have). And speaking of the Highlander, the Clan Highlander is unironically worse than the IS one IMO>Worse agility>Shittier JJ quirks>Shittier hitpoints because cXL tax even though both IS and Clan Highlander dies from CT (making IS XL not as big of a downside) more often than notNot to mention that the IS Highlander has Heavy Metal SBG+2HPPC poptarts going around cheesing and farming the living shit out of people. Also the Executioner on MWO is only good because of retarded podmixing for energyboating, its So8 quirks are still pretty atrocious. As is with most omnis really, those niggas thinks podmixing to boat shit are all they're for. They'd unironically groan seeing actual So8/semi-lore accurate builds like a bunch of fags.
>>98678101Heavy tanks usually need a lot of fire power to go down in a turn. If it gets immobilized it will die quickly due to called shots but that means it lasted at least 2 turns under fire.
>>98677582They should make a Thud variant based on that. Though I'm not sure if it should be Arrow IV launcher or a bunch of thunderbolt missiles.
>>98678987A Thunderbolt Arrow IV would be basically the same chance as a Catapult C5. And I like the idea of a Thunderbolt full of Thunderbolts.
>>98677582>>98678987>>98679082>Developed from a TDR-9AIS, the TDR-TDR was an experimental testbed for the Thunderbolt missile system's use en masse. Equipped with ten Thunderbolt-5s and a minimal backup laser armament. Fitting in the armaments required use of a custom built composite engine. The TDR-TDR's testing discovered that Thunderbolt missiles converging on the same target had a pronounced tendency to collide in midair and prematurely detonate. A software fix was implemented to stagger firing the missiles over the course of half a second instead of simultaneously, which was subsequently rolled out to all Thunderbolt launchers.>While successful in testing large scale use of Thunderbolt missiles, the TDR-TDR was never considered for field deployment or large scale manufacturing.
>>98679218>custom built composite engine*endo-composite structure
Why are Thunderbolt missiles called TDRs anyway? Shouldn't they be TBMs?
>>98678574>those cube lasersAre they afraid of weaponry being tightly grouped in a game that already entertains pinpoint accuracy, or having anything look good at all? Looks vomit inducing, especially on mechs like the Banshee
>>98679336The missiles are just called Thunderbolts, it's the mech that's called TDR.
>>98679336They're called T-Bolts?
>>98677089Yes, because it means you're using a shit model. A Rifleman has 2 identical looking gun barrels in each arm, otherwise it's not a legitimate or game legal Rifleman.
>>98679377It's the minimum standard for good information conveyance with the level of unit customization in MWO. If you face-check a corner and find an enemy, the faster you can identify lasers, PPCs and ACs, the faster you can make the push/retreat decision (and back in the 3025 standard at launch, there were a lot less exceptions to the guidelines those weapons encouraged). And you're sure as fuck not buying enough gold mechs to justify going back and giving the Warhammer a way to mount flamers in the arms that looks good.
>>98679498>Info conveyanceWith how much of a grebble mess the models are in actual maps along with garish paintjobs people use you're better off just using your peripheral vision to read the paperdoll weapon list of your target assuming you're not an unironic babby's first game boomer player which makes up most of MWO's playerbase.
Wolves on the Border audiobook has been finally updated a fresh full Audiobook. I'll have that and any other audiobooks uploaded later tonight.
>>98679516Waiting for the readout to pop up was the babby's first vidya option (and most of the cosmetics didn't exist at launch). Always remember that PGI was trying to make an esport, and now they're stuck with a bunch of grandfathered-in terrible decisions that they've been trying to work around ever since that went fucking nowhere.
>>98678694Its not gonna happen. It is rightful clan clay.
>>98679605Unless you're at 500m+, the paperdoll weapon list shows up in like quarter of a second.Especially because of how mandatory it generally is to take the info speed skill nodes just to have access to seismic. And besides, anyone who's played long enough would recognize most of the popular cheeseboat farming variants that people pretty much run exclusively (especially by the same tryhard farming fags) to the point that the weapon list is kind of redundant.
>>98679650Been a while since I played MWO, is seismic mandatory now for some reason?
>>98679677There's just no reason to not take seismic.>Check if there's someone around the corner>Check if someone's trying to sneak up on youOf course it has its limits like how it wouldn't save you from getting backstabbed by 9heavysmall firemoths with their 58 damage alpha to your rear.Or how its range limitations still lets 4HML+ECM firemoths to shoot at you outside of seismic range.
>>98679498If you wanted visual "information conveyance" you're playing the wrong game. Every mech looks like an eyesore that only conveys "gunbag." All they had to do was not throw out the original models instead of firing every last bit of talent at their circus studio.Have an ancient 2012 Awesome
>>98679702Thank you for proving my point to >>98679650. What they expected the game to be and where it turned out were very different, and they're still paying the price for it. Priorities shifted when shit went sideways, but there's only so much they can do because of how those early decisions blocked them in. Readability is much of a priority NOW, with over a decade of hindsight and player experience, but it WAS back THEN.
>>98679699Is there any type of seismic sensor in tabletop? Or would that be too awkward to implement?
>>98679764Sensor rules are in TacOps, and are integral to playing double-blind.
>>98679702And now they don't even have an artist to (re)design mechs for them to shit up, fucking joke of a dev studio.
>>98679605>Waiting for the readout to popout is worse than looking at the modelExcept one of the few unique things about the game is torso twisting which needs you to not stare at your enemy and the paperdoll readout still picks up your enemy weapon list even while you're not facing them (at least if you actually take T.Decay because everyone and their mothers takes R.Dep)
>>98679785https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkGvP8VFXAIDoes it fucking look like defensive torso twisting ever entered these peoples' minds?
>>98679785>(at least if you actually take T.Decay because everyone and their mothers takes R.Dep)I mean I max the Sensors out by default...
>>98679813Apparently not, but doesn't change that to people that does.Paperdoll weapon list>Looking at the models>>98679834Sen.Range is only there to pad out the skill node cost to take R.Dep, most combat unless you're a cheese sniper (or it's a sniper map) takes place at 600m or less anyhow.
>Can you list what’s in Aces box 3? Lau Hu 3L ,Raven 4X, Vindicator 4L ,Griffin 5LCataphract 5LL, Pillager 4Z, King Crab 011, Regulator hovertank
>>98679843>Sen.Range is only there to pad out the skill node cost to take R.Dep, most combat unless you're a cheese sniper (or it's a sniper map) takes place at 600m or less anyhow.Still doesn't mean getting paperdoll info at 700m+ is useless...
>>98679843I'm not saying it doesn't. But they THOUGHT it would, tried to cater for it, and then nothing at all worked the way they expected it to. That goes for pretty much every decision PGI even made, and that's why every 'Mech is now buried under a mountain of quirks trying to dig themselves out of their hole and at least make what the game turned out to be slightly less shit.
>>98679851At those ranges you got ECMbabs (especially ArrowWhiners) stopping people from getting spotted (Red Icon) at all.Besides, the default sensor range is like 800m.And speaking of Arrow Whiners, that shit isn't even better than 2LRM15As per launcher on MWO.The Arrow Mad Dog is literally just a pile of dogshit compared to the LRM60A+ECM Sun Spider.

>>98679218I get it. But Thunderbolt 5's always give me that "This weapon could be a 1 ton ERML" vibe that I sometimes get from AC5's. If your gonna use thunderbolts, I always try to go a bit wacky and use the TB/15. If nothing else, it give the IS access to a OHKO Headshot weapon.

>>98678381I would argue a suicide drone would be equivalent to a really accurate Thunderbolt missile, since BAR10 is explicitly supposed to be objectively far better than modern day armor and advanced ECCM is a natural part of a Mech's software. Tons of these systems should be full of third world tier nigs who are constantly dealing with the consequences of Successor States fighting each other, getting into a proto because it's cheaper and easier to field at the cost of their own lives would be a no brainer if it meant setting up their family with money or dying young from getting caught in the crossfire anyway. At the very least, IS Protos would have made a fun mook unit for proper mechs to mow down to feel cool.
>>98682102I like this idea. Probably would expand it to include ultralight territory here like really shitty poorly armed and armored tiny mechs but anything is better than nothing approach. They could also repurpose protomechs rules as Star League combat robots from 2750. Fluff constantly talks about them so why not finally make a few official units?
>>98682102>because it's cheaper and easier to fieldProtos are 100% Clantech with a dash of Clan medical tech. But I'd be down for an assault BA-only wheeled/tracked movement system that actually pushes BA into the 8-movement range on pavement. Probably while maxing them out at 10 points of armour. That seems like a sensible thing.
Horsebot is real now.
>>98682433Thanks, cell phone.
>>98682469Awesome! Care to share the STL?
>>98681842>RavenE-war specialist and fire support magnet in a unit too small to need e-war and without enough fire support to need a magnet>OwensLone omnimech and lone c3s>Osiris>HellspawnThese aren't that weird in a vacuum, although they are both uncommon on the table>Flea>flea
>>98682421>medical tech.Invasive, expensive medical tech. IS VDNI also works for protos as proven by the blakists, but VDNI is a cyberpunk style brain hookup installed in the back of your skull. You need specialized medical manufacturing to create it and specialized surgeons to install it.
>>98682102I like the idea of them shifting protomechs to be like heavy gears, smaller machines with their own weapons and combat meta. Obviously inferior to battlemechs but it would still be cool to have a mature enough system to have protomech vs protomech fights. It would also be cool to have traditional vehicles in it as well be more of a big deal, like a heavy tank being mobility mogged by a protomech but also being much more heavily armed than one as well. Having them basically be cheaper mechs is neat. They should go all in on mobility equipment for them, like skates or wheeled feet or hover equipment to boost their mobility up a ton. Keeping them reductive and being emo about body modification is a dumb pigeon hole to force the tech into. The IS should take them and "fix" them for more general use as cheaper mech alternatives for garrison units who plan on fighting other traditional vehicles
>>98682433>>98682469Looks great anon, fantastic job. I can't imagine the autism required to have done this lol
>>98682910I had to horsemaxx pretty hard
>>98682833I was thinking the Raven could be FedCom surplus so maybe easier than some mechs for mercenaries to buyThe Owens has non C3 variants right?
>>98682958Nope, the c3 is fixed equipment, along with a TAG and Beagle.
>>98682958The C3S on the Owens is fixed equipment, you can't swap it out without turning it into a BattleMech. A lot of solid chassis have a C3S that they don't need though, so don't let that get in the way.
Why not simply become a bandit lord in the periphery with your mercenary company?Think about it.
Why did no one tell me that they made an Omnimech variant of the Locust IIC?
>>98683147Because the only Clan that spoonfeeds are the Ghost Bears
>>98682469Looks good enough to be an official model, gj anon! However you are still a ponyfucker for making it.
i have become DavionMan.
>>98682973>>98682981How do the rules work about fixed equipment on inner sphere OmniMechs?
>>98683840>cheating on pointsyep
>>98683866The same as for clan ones, if you alter any fixed equipment, then you lose all benefits of its omni-ness and it's treated the same as a regular battlemech for any and all purposes.
