Shadowrun has a section of vehicles, all of different sizes and capabilities, from the 2070s crappy Hyundai (no, seriously, Hyundai is a brand) to pick up trucks, minivans, motorcycles, limousines, they even managed to put a tank or an APC in there. all with different stats, armor, durability, etc. and that's just the ground vehicles all in the Shadowrun core book, in the Red core book, our vehicles are limited to pic related. We have a similar table for air vehicles and sea vehicles, and Shadowrun beats us in the variety department there too.

I GM an irl group of total newbie friends and we’re planning on running Shadowrun 5e. I’m decent at the game itself, but have always played it online on Roll20 or Foundry. RED on the other hand is “relatively” better. The common person now lives the life of your average third worlder (think Brazilian favela or Mumbai working poor) rather than a nuclear wastes scavenger. It’s still horrific compared to your life in the first world, but life still goes on. Think of the poorest parts of the biggest city near you. Shit sucks, but there are still shops and an economy.

With the Corps recovering from war, the world is practically broken and there's a huge power vaccuum, but everybody gets along better than before despite all the shortages and scarcity? Game kinda romanticizes poverty and makes the gangs way too nice. NC45 is actually an improvement over previous Red lore but the setting as a whole is kinda lame desu. I blame the fact that the line manager is a bit of a weenie and hires a ton of free lancers of varying quality.

It demands a lot of you as a GM not just because you can cram a book alone with all the roll tables you need to shorthand, but because there's metric fucktons of lore in the setting, 40K tiers of lore, almost every single corner of the planet is covered in detail, unlike Cyberpunk which is mostly centered around the US and Night City in specific. That shit was already written, even Africa has tons of lore, so if you want to make a Shadowrun game in Africa, setting up players in the middle of the jungle so the can Heart of Darkness that shit up, fighting ascended crocodiles for the Christian Freeddom Militia of Warlord Kwame Kinte, under a banner of wealth and missuse of the womenfolk of those other ethnic minorities we fight in the name of the Lord, Well guess what? There's already lore rails established for that. Been playing Cyber Knights a fair bit of late, fun vidya and deserves a tabletop version
A question that's not so much about the game as it is about the genre: Does it just stop working once the setting leaves earth and lands on a different planet? My impression of cyberpunk is that it's tomorrow's technology meeting today's societal degradation.So if you move it into a setting where Earth is just another planet with a breathable atmosphere you've got neither tomorrow's technology nor today's societal degradation.

What do you guys think of this one-shot concept: The run is to break into a totally enclosed minicology for up-n-coming media personalities caught in a semi-reality Live-show called the Wishing Well or Mirror Mirror (name to be decided). It’s like a medieval feudal Content House, full of industry plants, has-been famous simsense stars and MeFeed streamers.In reality, this is the dumping ground for personality scraped people who have recently been to a rehab retreat where Horizon basically made them into easily downloadable people, for easy off-market BTL production.The team’s objective is to make sure one of the most popular, perfect stars, the Prince, gets eliminated by planting evidence in his room, throwing the 24/7 livestreamed show into chaos and to score Mr. Johnson a lot of money via the betting market. I’m thinking he maybe cheated on his princess or some other dirty secret, but should the job be bigger than that? What should be some optional side-objectives, gathered on-site or attached to the job itself?

I think this sounds like a run that could play well as a one shot or as a hook for a bigger job/arc.If you want to leave threads to pull, the most obvious one I can think of is the crew stumbling on evidence that "The Prince" isn't who the showrunners and producers say he is and a larger conspiracy is at play.Two ways I can think of running that are:- The production is a cover for an ongoing 'Phantom of the Opera' type crisis where young talents are being sabotaged or kidnapped; the show is equal parts protective custody and misdirection with body doubles being used to shore up missing stars and pretend normalcy while their remaining talent is under literal 24/7 surveillance. Old talent and has-beens are under NDA to keep it under wraps and play along.- The production is a form of hyperironic witness protection where some star (like the aformentioned 'Prince') is being 'shelved' while an investigation is ongoing. Happenings are scripted to keep them on for the duration, but Mr. Johnson's meddling may fuck that up (it is possible this is his actual objective, not just gambling fraud).Lean into the showbiz end and there's no telling what kind of trouble you can get into; as for side objectives; getting autographs and (stealing) memorabilia are solid picks; but also palming paperwork or smuggling things into or out of the set for other reasons are solid.
