Mexico, for both. Got some dedicated material for it unlike a lot of places, and being right on America's border, it didn't get the whitewashing so many other poor/violent countries received.

Can garou smell magic? Like if I turn a minion into a crow would they be able to tell thats not a regular crow?
>>
>>98679428
>Can garou smell magic?
nope. they have sense wyrm/weaver/wyld gifts but that's it and to be honest how effective they are is heavily overstated they need a roll and only tell you that something related to the wyrm/weaver/wyld is in the same room or not
>Like if I turn a minion into a crow would they be able to tell thats not a regular crow?
not at all. one garou mentions that he hates cities because he has no way of knowing if any and every spider he sees is not part of a ananasi without sidestepping and even then that is not completely reliable

the one exception to that are undead minions (vampire or wraiths) taking the form of a animal because they can sense that it's dead

I'm actually preparing a Mexico City game that will feature the 4 founding gods of Mexico as kindred. So far I've got:

Quetzalcoatl -Setite
Xipe Totec - Tzimisce
Tezcaltlipoca - La Sombra
Huitzilopochtli - Gangrel or Baali like he actually is in Diablerie: Mexico
Mictlantecutli - Obvious Cappadocian
Cipatl - Wyrm/Abyss
The moon goddess could be a metaphor for woofs in which the moon chasing the sun means Huitzilopochtli has been bitchslapping Woofs since day 1 and that's why Cipatl awakens if Woofs win. And that's why the 5th sun/current world ends in 2027 (unsure if Jan-feb or October according to archaeological records.) He is gonna wake up soon. That's why it feels like everything's going more to shit now than ever.

Players start getting shovelheaded before being sent on a suicide attack on a Cam fort, having to deal with being fresh embraces and being forced to choose a faction unless they're fine taking on a pack priest and a Sheriff on their first night to go Anarch. Find Huitzilopochtli in his tomb first, and either Diablerize him before he brings back the Good Ol Days since he has no knowing or caring about what a masquerade is, or join him and fight packs of woofs as all other 3 gods want you dead now for serving a Baali/Gangrel Metuselah.

Yes, I am on something.

Seeing as I am running first time players and a Sabbat pack may be literally any clan/antitribu I'm happy letting them pick anything, though I do intend each prologue of us brainstorming the character together as the PCs last day before getting bonked and thrown into a mass grave. I can tell em they wake up knowing something changed in them and figuring out who sired them as we pick the Clan together and me recommending clans based on what their last day is like.

Mexico is a good candidate on Earth. There are more dangerous and numerous candidates in different planes of existence. The Abyss, Malfeas, the Last Battleground, any Hell etc.

In reality though, actually most dangerous to a human is a forest. It isn't the most dangerous but it is the most common danger to normal humans.

Alamut, believing in anything but the path of blood, while Ur-Shulgi's running his purge.

Alternatively, Alamut after triggering their busted defense network (or generally just ending up in an elder Vizier's shit list).
>Directing Ahriman’s Lance
>The ashipu must fashion a sympathetic connection to a target out of a talisman small enough to be swallowed. Then, she must swallow it, wait an hour, and then cut the talisman out of her own belly. Other sorcerers may assist in this undertaking, which inflicts a minimum of two levels of unsoakable lethal damage on the one performing the ritual. Until the next inauspicious night, any Kindred who holds the talisman will find that the spirits bless his efforts to kill the target.
>System: To determine how long the ritual lasts, the ashipu must first use the Horoscope ritual against the target or, if the birth date and death date of the target is unknown, he may cast a horoscope for the assassin who will wield the talisman. In the latter case, only that assassin may benefit from the talisman’s properties, but in the former case, anyone can use the talisman. When Horoscope is used in conjunction with this ritual, the talisman will function for a number of nights equal to the successes rolled for the Horoscope. During that time, any roll made by the bearer of the talisman which bring him closer to killing the target benefit from a difficulty reduction equal to the successes rolled for this ritual.

There's also another ritual of theirs the blood pool sorcerers can mass-cast. It reduces them by a generation, but in exchange gives every Assamite in Alamut a flat reduction in difficulty to a task set by the clan (such as winning a war, or hunting down an intruder).

Found it, and it's even more powerful than that. It's not the leadership, rather the Keepers Of The Pool (priests in charge of the not!Dune pool of "life blood" that every Assamite puts the blood they collect into).
They have a unique school of Thaumaturgy called The Keepers Way, and that cast is its ultimate:
>••••• Cast into the Pool of Blood
>This spell must always be cast by four sorcerers. By emptying themselves of blood points with their hands in the pool, the practitioners can feel the blood of all members of the clan flowing through them, and can impact the immediate fate of the Clan Assamite. All participants gain one Generation during the casting, as the potency of their blood is permanently used to influence the clan’s fate. Though they may not control time, nor impact things directly, through the power of this ritual they may dramatically impact the result of a series of events. In effect, they choose a goal to accomplish, which must be agreed to by all casting members.
>For each success, choose one of the following:
>• Individuals gain –1 difficulty on relevant actions (to a minimum difficulty 3).
>• Individuals gain +1 die on relevant actions (to a maximum +5 dice).
>• Those obstructing the goal gain +1 difficulty (to a maximum difficulty 9).
>• Those obstructing the goal lose 1 die (to a minimum dice pool 1).
>For example: If the goal is to prevent an army from invading Alamut, all warriors would receive bonuses to their rolls made to defend the city, and all sorcerers would gain bonuses to rituals in defense of the collective, while enemies would suffer penalties to attack the Assamites therein.

The fact that the Tremere/Ventrue alliance succeeded in the crusades is either a testament to how much more bullshit they are, or fiat.

one of them is a VE even. A bit more context group of 3 player character + 2 hitmarks been send to figure out why there was some weirdness in the german city of bielefeld where the city seemed to only semi exist sometimes if even that and found a etherite cabal working on a multiversal nexus machine that wasn't working as intended and was phasing the city in and out of reality. So obviously they blow it up which caused a seqence i based on the og half life meaning it opened a portal to a alien world

they decided to try to clean this up themselves because it would look better on the report and like i said fucked up hard during the fight because aliens rolled liked gods and had to run with the portal to the xenomorph hive in another universe still open

now they want to look if they can't find other splats to use as canon fooder because they really don't want to report this

nta. But the circle of red as described in dark age werewolf is meant to be the same circle (probably) as the one described in devil's due, but it's so different (few mages of hermetic and chloister stock and a large number of unawakened thrall assassins and merchants who do inferalism for profit vs all awakened mages with unique magic who make defilement of the divine will their entire thing) that some people consider them different groups even though they are in the same place at the same time. Which to be fair given how small supernatural numbers are in wod could technically be true

>Weaver made the Insect-people to create order, to enforce the beliefs of Weaver above all else. Ananasa did not agree with that decision. She had seen that Wyld and Wyrm both served their purposes, and so she made a contingency plan. We are the fruit of her labors.

>Mokolé, for all their strength and wisdom, were not the proper soldiers to fight against the Insects. They were too large, too slow to do battle with the armies that assaulted them. The Rokea were not capable of straying from the water for long, and they too were not prepared for the battle ahead. But we were designed for just such a task.

I see. If youre refering to the predalien being able to impregnate people by 'kissing' them: I never considered that canon and the explanation it was a "proto queen" never sat right with me because it wasnt even a praetorian facehugger that impregnated Scar in the first AVP movie. Aside from that, fantastic design. They definitely should be bigger and stronger than a drone/warrior spawned from a human. Xenomorphs being able to take qualities of their hosts is my favorite aspect of them. I would probably not allow them access to the supernatural aspects of the setting though. Maybe if a metis garou gets impregnated you can have a metis xenomorph but gifts and even shapeshifting should be off the table in my opinion.

It's okay! Take your time, I'm in no rush. It looks very nice as is, especially the neckerchief. Very chic. Though I must say the naked apron style certainly is... an eye-catching choice to put it politely, especially if those little tie-offs by her hips are what I think they are. My players are a bit prudish so a little bit more clothing under the apron would be appreciated, but don't feel like you need to tone down the sex appeal. I know it's important to her character, after all.
Here, take this Arabian Sand Boa as a token of appreciation.

>Start running part 2 of my hunter the vigil campaign
>Immediately worry that I super overplayed my hand, though I was never intending it to be super duper subtle

So the cell is in a town in rural ontario. After being at ground zero for two murders(one of them was the Slasher they were hunting, who was also a ghoul), the leader of the local cult of fish people(whom they'd kind of already figured out) showed up at their B+B, explicitly calling them humans and holding them accountable for the fish people death. The priest PC managed to calm him down and explain how the other dead guy was the killer, but they were still told to leave town until things calmed down.

This was due to the new player's one shot necessitating a time skip, and I decided that thanks to said timeskip, the person they thought they saved in part 1 would get ghouled by the BBEG(a toreador vampire). Their re-introduction to him was bombastic, perhaps a bit too much so, with the guy being dressed like Jeffree star or some other makeup influencer, with the same over the top speech patterns, talking about their great new manager.

The party was IMMEDIATELY suspicious, but I don't think that's necessarily too bad, because I don't think ghouls(especially young people) are necessarily going to be the most subtle or suddenly super good at manipulating. The toreador is trying to create an environment where the fish people won't feel safe in their realm, so they turned the kid into an influencer to lure people to move into town and make it a new metro hub. I'm just worried I was a little bit too over the top.
>>
>>98680880
It's fine, I'd say. Not every supernatural, even vampires, need be subtle, always on the ball super genius manipulators. And I personally always appreciate when something highlights the genuine drawbacks of ghouls. Not everyone remains a stable and effective minion once they get a hit of the best drug imaginable. Especially if you have social disciplines, there are plenty of cases where normal mortals can do the job better.

In any case, obviously being suspicious doesn't mean they can just blast the ghoul, or even kidnap him for interrogation. Even with a minor following, you'll need to make sure to attack the guy when he's offline, and do it in a way that's subtle enough to not make it seem like foul play.
>>
>>98680949
plus, it gives them a reason to investigate his manager. All the breadcrumbs leading to the vampire are going to be either tenuous or circumstantial, even though they're not necessarily the most subtle villain.

I just got nervous when I said "Are you back on another hunting trip" and they IMMEDIATELY all locked in on him.
>>
>>98680880
>talking about their great new manager.
Yeah I would be immediately suspicious of that if that was something brought up in the reintroduction.
>I don't think ghouls(especially young people) are necessarily going to be the most subtle or suddenly super good atmanipulating.
Ghouls are normally a means to an end. Its mainly a question of What purpose do they serve? I once had a ghoul that served no other purpose than being the legal owner of my haven. I didnt need him to be smart, strong, or charismatic. I just needed someone to let me live in their basement and occasionally lend me their car.
>I was never intending it to be super duper subtle
Can you elaborate on that? Im mainly curious about your pacing. Is the toreador just the big bad for a story or the whole chronicle? Were you intending on making the influencer a way for the cell to get to the Toreador?
>>
>>98680063
A dysfunctional caravan consisting of
>A working class fisherman Lasombra who was Embraced by total accident and was only kept alive because the Toreador Prince of the area thought it would be funny if he used this as a way to mock his hated enemies. “Look at your noble blood in this commoner as I make him do humiliating errands for my amusement!”
>A Fianna Ahroun lady from Scotland who had a late First Change. Knows almost nothing about the Garou culture whatsoever
>An Imbued Hunter who’s just generally drifting through life, clearly having given up on normality at this point
>A Lost Darkling Razorhand who’s spent 20 years being groomed into a sociopath who derives pleasure from the suffering of others and deeply hates it.
>A mildly psychotic Wraith Pardoner from Canada who answers to Charon as a cleaner for any leaking shit in the Skinlands.
>An Amenti Sefekhi who is currently sharing a body with a depressed Australian divorcee
>A Remade who ISN’T a woe is me sadsack and actually found something resembling peace in himself
>A 15 year old Correspondence Mage who is just adorable because he’s not even hubristic, he just wants to write down all the crazy shit in this world. Kind of a POV character
>An Unchained Destroyer who’s currently having a crisis of faith due to believing in the Christian God and not knowing if his soul is damned.
>A Promethean Galatean who’s built like a freight train and wants to know why his creator abandoned him.
>A Begotten in the body of a cat. Everyone hates him. He also got fraudchecked by Caine himself in his backstory
>>
>>98680994
so the cell is being scouted by an organization tied to the church. They were informed that the town they're in is dealing with a killer, the deaths being covered up. In town, they discovered most of the victims are not!Deep ones, and they found the killer...and oneshot it thanks to a series of lucky crits. In the aftermath, they found a phone giving them a list of targets(the victims) and a warning to be more fucking careful about killing humans. Part 2 is intended to be chasing after the 'baron', unmasking and putting an end to them. The toreador is meant to be the villain of the two arcs, and killing them gets them a place in the compact they're being scouted for.
>>
>>98680994
oh, and the toreador's plan is to have a beautiful haven in rural ontario, free of the unsightly fish people in the town they're now in. Part 1, they were using a Slasher to kill them off until they went to ground, but that failed, so now they're trying to use an influencer to lure kine to the area, with the hope that so many people makes the not!Deep Ones want to just leave.
>>
>>98680996
They ride in a heavily used class A Winnebago that they got scammed out of after escaping from a blacksite they all got holed up in, and then go on a road trip to do something, seeing sights and also some of the nuttiest shit possible.
I use WOD, COFD, and multiple fan splats, such as Zombies, Geniuses, Nobles, Leviathans, Dragons, and so on.
A list of some of the utter nonsense they encounter
>The Amenti has not one but two immortal beings from his past. His now-vampire lover from the 1800s and his now-zombified butler from the 1500s, both of which hate his guts for different reasons and conspire to fuck his life up
>An entire corporation run by Geniuses who somehow make more money than Pentex despite doing nothing but sell useless and expensive novelty items
>A fight club run by supernaturals, the owner specifically being a Fallen type Demon.
>A literal cult of Skin Dancers who intend on claiming the girl for their next project, for they believe skinning families make the resultant war form more potent.
>A Korean Bound who’s basically a Manhwa protagonist complete with copying powers
>A Malkavian girl who is mentally stuck in the mid 2000s
>A serial Diablerist Gangrel who wants to work his way up to 1st gen and eat Caine’s ass specifically, and our Lasombra is looking appetizing
Among other things
>>

I am planning on running a new world of darkness game in Lifting the Veil from the Dark Ages Companion where everyone is a lesser template. I'm happy with my plot, but I'm now trying to crack open what I'll offer the players for characters.

Can anyone help me find what mortal templates can use 'greater' powers - obviously ghouls can learn some disciplines, for example, but can anyone learn Mummy stuff? Sleepwalkers aren't going to learn magic, but there's the ceremonial and psychic merits from the corebooks. That sort of thing. The players will never get a greater template, but I'd like to just refluff all the lesser template rules as spiritualism and weirdness so if anyone can point me at the more 'magical' versions I'd love to see them. Thanks.
>>
>>98682211
I think Hedge Magic is in Hunters Hunted II for V20, that's magic learned and used by mortals, and IIRC mummies in the current year are technically learning and using an Egyptian flavor of it, not something that is part of any intrinsic magical power included with the package of being a mummy
>>
>>98682211
The sorcerer book specifically says that Mummy Hekau could be repurposed into a sorcerer path, with maybe one level offset.

Which is funny because most equivalent level sorcerer paths are actually stronger than hekau.

>banning black furies from being transphobic
It makes a kind of sense meta-wise for the BF to become more intersectional as time goes on in reflection of mortal feminism changes (which really should include them taking in other Fera, bevause intersectionality; nice replacement for the lack of Metis if W5 keeps them gone) but second wave Andrea Dworkin style feminist BFs should logically still *exist*. Even if they're old, or a minority take, or cast as antagonistic and prone to haugslock.

You also have Mentalists and Psychic powers in M20 Sorcerer
>>

>in reflection of mortal feminism changes
Then shouldn't the black furies be splitting into hyper-radicalized camps that hate each other to the point the tribe is on the verge of civil war? The internal war between the transfems and the TERFs is a massive topic in feminism right now.
There's also the issues of sterilization, and now outright child murder as revealed by a recent court case, is being supported by the transfem side. This is outright breaking two of the litany laws at this point.

Mummy 1e and 2e say the same thing. Mummy Hekau just Are sorcerer paths, they aren't some unique Mummy power. Mummies are just normal ass humans given immortality. The upgraded Mummies in revised now with True Faith, that's the only difference.

very interesting, I am not one of the five persons on planet earth who has actually read the mummy books. The Sorcerer books somewhat treat it as it's own thing. Different system implied to be more powerful.

Sadly, Paradox has no idea on what changes could actually improve the setting and would rather do completely random shit.

if you go by sorcerer revised then sorcerers are limited to hekau 5 as sorcerers learn Hekau converted to a custom path so going by 1 to 6 but without a 1 dot power as hekau is learned at one rank up so rank 1 becomes 2 and so forth ending with the 6th dot of your path being a 5th dot power

it also says that ST should not give all mummies powers to sorcerers
>>
>>98682567
>Stop using M20, it's complete garbage.
The M20 Sorcerer book actually buffed Psychics. Thst's why people joke about the author having a psychic OCdonut thst got their shit rocked byba sorcerer.

Among the things it does:
>Changes all dicepools for psychic powers to Willpower, making powers cheap and easy to use overall
>Changes most powers so that their revised 5th dot in now a 4th dot and added an evem stronger 5th dot in it's place
>Has a System for turning sorcery path into new psychic powers
>Adds a merits that allows you to create psychic rituals.
With all the nerfs to sorcery in M20, psychic powers are literally better in every way now. The book is biased as Fuck. My go-to is Revised Sorcery Paths with M20 psychic Powers.
>>
>>98682684
>The book is biased as Fuck. My go-to is Revised Sorcery Paths with M20 psychic Powers.
one of the writers for m20 Travis i think it was is super mega biased towards psychics in general

he also did the psychic Powers and nothing else for the crusader kings mod. But his code is so boring and nobody wants to update psychic Powers because sorcerer is already there that they now exiled psychics to the samuel height (power gamer all splat restrictions are removed etc) mode
>>
>>98682680
The Mummy books Themselves disagree with this and outright have references to Sorcerer Revised while telling you how to give all mummy powers to a sorcerer.

The MTR Companion even details how a Sorcerer can turn their Mana background into a full Balance score if they want, turning it from a 1-5 to 1-10 with extra True Faith adjacent powers on top. Mummies only unique "Powers" are the fact they're immortal, everything else is normal human potential.

It's funny watching the author vs author fights in the books. The authors of the changeling and mummy books were clearly into allowing off-the-wall campy games and kept butting heads with the banal anti-fun writers of revised era mage.
>>
>>98682703
>The Mummy books Themselves disagree with this
that why i said going by sorcerer revised
>and outright have references to Sorcerer Revised while telling you how to give all mummy powers to a sorcerer.
this means nothing to be honest. A lot of books refer to sorcerer revised while at the same time completely and utterly contradicting what that book actually says so you just need to choose a primary source when it comes to sorcerer questions do you go with the gameline books or with the sorcerer book and then just go with that

i personally usually go with sorcerer revised as primary source for sorcerer questions and for the gamelines as primary when it comes to the supernatural in question, but i also didn't do that for different chronicles before

Having played the ck3 mod I don't see what the point of Samuel Haight mode is, sorcery alone is enough to hit so much prowess you can just assassinate every single character in the game. I infiltrated Mithras house and he went to 1v1 me to stop me from stealing his gold and he died.

Yeah, they really need to rebalance the NPCs. The higher tier creatures need to be waaaay stronger and act much less directly.
CK already has a similar system to this with how it splits royalty and lower nobility. Just make a parallel system with Antedeluvian"Kings" ordering around Methusela"Dukes", who then delegat to Elder"Earls, who then send out Ancillae"Viscounts" leading Neonate"Barons".
>>
>>98682730
>Having played the ck3 mod I don't see what the point of Samuel Haight mode is, sorcery alone is enough to hit so much prowess you can just assassinate every single character in the game.
so you can be a vampire/ half demon(baali objective)/ half kuei jin (watcher salubri objective)/half another demon (fomori)/ half fae(fae blooded embraced in sam mode keep arts and cantrips)/ sorcerer (usually full splats that aren't cabiri or bastet can't learn it in that mod) and later also mage after those are added using the sargon codex... at once! and then go fight the protagonist from the bleach manga

people been seriously pesting the developers and even breaking the mod to find loopholes to multi splat and the modus is mostly to keep these people from a.) sending those things in as bug reports and b.) stop crying everytime a exploid that wouldn't work in canon anyway is fixed

>sorcery alone is enough to hit so much prowess you can just assassinate every single character in the game.
that's because Mithras is also a playable character that a player is meant to be able to play and grow the endgame events have prowess stuff between 250 and 300 although usually you are not meant to fight them alone

...What the Fuck?
As a guy that likes multi-splat stacking for fun, that is a fucking tavesty of a combo? How the hell is a Kuei Jin possessed? Why would a Nephelim/Laham have access to lores? Why isn't the Kinain turning into a Kaisyd instead?

There are legitimate exploits for stacking, and this horror makes a Mockery of my work!

More seriously, I wish there were more options than "No" and "Ignore the lore completely". This isn't chronicles, splats can stack, but there are Rules to this.
>>
>>98682842
>As a guy that likes multi-splat stacking for fun, that is a fucking tavesty of a combo?
>This isn't chronicles, splats can stack, but there are Rules to this.
the sam mode turns off most splat stacking restriction for the most part because again people been pestering the mod authors. in normal play most of these are limited to certain clans/bloodlines objectives meaning you can only do one of them at best

> How the hell is a Kuei Jin possessed?
the watcher salubri objective is about stealin po and whatever it's called from actual kuei jin it's i been told mentioned in one of the kote books but never got stats so you are still a cainite but you need to follow a dhamar and gain kuei jin powers

>Why would a Nephelim/Laham have access to lores?
the baali objective is about killing and usurping a demon like mary the black did in canon and Laham in the mod don't have lores. Nephilim do but you need as a demon to do a objective to unlock these guys by learning how they made them during the rebellion

>Why isn't the Kinain turning into a Kaisyd instead?
they are if you are using the normal mode
>>

Anon, modern Amenti don't have that. Many of them Get zero memories from their Temahk and have to learn Hekau from scratch. They still learn at the same rate other Amenti do.
The thing with Hekau is that the Shemsu Heru already did all the heavy lifting discovering the Hekau with their multiple lifetimes. The discovery has already be written down and codified. Anyone can learn it now.
>>
>>98682872
>about stealin po
In asian kung-fu metaphydics, this wouldn't do shit. The fucking Shih demon hunters can awsken their Po, it doesn't do anything useful and just acts as Anti-humanity that measures their level of damnation. Being as cheritable as possible, the vamps should either have the same massive restriction on thr powers they can learn like eastern dhampyr do or just be full demon-risen as wan kuei. You can't have Rites, Chi Arts, and Soul Arts without being possessed by your own soul, it's fundamental to how those powers function.
>Nephilim do
They shouldn't. We have stats for Nephilim from Mage. They have a Mana/Faith Potential rating of 7 and 7 points worth of pact powers free. That's it.
They make great mages/sorcerers because that 7 mana/quintessence refreshes daily, but they aren't getting any fancy lores.

What's with all the people talking about Hekau when the post says New World of Darkness, and mentions Sleepwalkers, which is an Awakening thing.
A bunch of splats have some kind of lesser template version, not sure which ones are properly playable though. There's wolf-blooded for werewolves, stigmatics and demon-blooded for demons, alchemists for prometheans, necromancers for Geist, I think most of these can learn a few major powers.

Nephilim in mage are the kids of umbrood demons not Elohim. Mage completely ignores the existence of DtF even in it's revised crossover section in the ST book that featured the Imbued because goat boy (i am not confusing editions he wrote that too) doesn't wants sympathetic demons i guess

teams where working at the same time sometimes in the same gameline even and there was zero communication between them so some white wolf writers gotten infos from the books at the same time as the players did sometimes and white wolf would never did give them any extra time to fix stuff

Moth central, mainly copied from last thread (and some from my documents)

Forms:

Crawlerling equivalent
Str: 0, Dex: 6, Sta: 0, Man: 0, App: 0
The only form the weremoths can cross the Gauntlet in

>Lepidoptera
Hispo equivalent, literally just a giant moth.
Str: -1, Dex: +2, Sta: +2, Man: -1, App: -1/0, Per: +3
Can fly, -2 to athletics/dodge difficulties while flying

>Magnaelae/Torquentis
Crinos equivalent. Magnaelae (from latin, Great Wings) / Torquentis (from latin and cultist simulator, Skintwister.
A massive monster moth, a 2-3 meters tall mothman, a horrifying human-insect-moth hybrid. (Kinda like with Ananasi, they have “subforms” of their warform)
Str: +1, Dex: +2, Sta: +1, Man: -1, App: 0, Per: +3
Can fly, -2 to athletics/dodge difficulties while flying
Causes reduced delirium -2?

>Tineana and Sedose
Both are Glabro-styled, although Tineana (Pathmoth Glabro form) is a permanent homid-glabro equivalent as I was thinking the Pathmoths don't have access to homid at all.
Cha +2, Man +1, (Dex +1?), -2 to intimidation (they are cute)

>More on the Tienana and Sedose
The Pathos weremoths lack a true homid form, instead they have access to Tineana (from latin, Moth Human). A human-sized moth-human hybrid with humanoid form but has compound eyes, chitin-like skin and insectoid jointed limbs.

The moth-like human form of a [Weremoth] is not one designed for increased strength or toughness; a moth is almost never a predator, after all.
Instead, it draws from the other great defence of nature: fawning. Through a combination of softening their features, a mix of subtle pheremones, and a partially fuzzy exterior, a [Weremoth] in Sedose gives off a completely non-threatening aura.

Actually, should the Glamoths have access to homid?

As always, discuss

Lore:

Nobody really knows where – or when – the weremoths came from.

Many conflicting accounts, stories, tales, and myths tell of the weremoths. Some claim they never died, having somehow survived the Weaver’s displeasure during the dawn of time. Some say they woke up from the dead – a theory with many claiming to have played a part in, or claim to be the reason why the weremoths exist in the present day.

Those old enough to remember the early days of history, the Mokolé do not speak of, and the only one with real answers, Queen Ananasa who was there when the moths were first crushed, does not answer her children’s queries.

The most popular theories, none of which the moths themselves claim any of – as the moths do not care, they simply are – all revolve around spirits.

Was it the Wyld herself who saved and claimed the moths? Was it the Moth, or the moth-shaped Unknown who woke them? Were they even killed in the first place? Were they simply trapped in the Dreaming and and let loose with the rest of the fae? Had they been stuck in the Shadowlands for untold aeons and had only recently found a way out?

Nobody knows.

Many Garou claim they are the reason why the weremoths exist at all; the most proud of the Garou are to this day furious that the weremoths do not thank them, and do not listen to the Garou.

What everyone agrees on are the facts anyone with eyes can see. There are two distinct types of weremoth. The Glamour, and the Pathos. The Day, and the Night.

>Auspices
Glamour and Pathos, basically "Day and Night"
Glamour would be more focused on the social, the wonder and transformation
Pathos would be more focused on the mystery, the dead, stasis, and (also) transformation

These are the general ideas that seem to be most agreed on, such as the origin of the weremoths being a bit of a mystery that nobody can (in the world of darkness) agree on, and those that might know (Mokole and Ananasa) don't tell shit.

My Changeling: The Lost character is a weird guy because he actually wants to go back to his Keeper and continue the play with them.

The character was used as a playmate, and the True Fae and the changeling played through many different fairy tales, both old and new.

As for why the changeling left, it wasn’t because they really wanted to. The Keeper’s Nemesis (or another True Fae) essentially caused the escape to happen in the first place.

So the changeling likes their own Keeper but absolutely fucking hates other True Fae

The neckerchief would be a nice, bright red to pull the eyes down from her face to her exposed shoulder line and cleavage. to actually give a answer despite the question being too vague because i feel like it. Most tzimisce are housed in communal havens either because they are younger sabbat and live with their pack or are old and have a estate

the first one is actually pretty easy to deal with it from a hunter perspective if you can find it because sabbat vampires on paths can't wake up during the day at all, sabbat tend to dislike using ghouls as day guards and after the death of house goratrix blood magic has become somewhat rare in the sword of caine which means unless the pack sleeps in a older temple you probably also don't have to worry about wards

but the later is a complete nightmare in every sense of the word that does (hopefully) not invole fae between traps, warghouls some of which would need more powerful gear than a swat team usually brings to put down before it get's into meele range and possibly koldunic defenses that like the other anon said could include spirits that mundane weapons can't deal with well you can be lucky if the entire building isn't also actually alive and starts attacking you

First time ST running V20 soon and I want to make sure I'm not being too harsh on one of my players. He is fixated on making a character that is Kirei Kotomine from Fate; a very sadistic priest for the sake of brevity. Initially, he wanted to do a Lasombra and start with Celerity through freebie points and got annoyed when I told him he still has to justify how he learned an out of clan discipline. Then he was leaning heavy into generation(maxed) and resources(very high), and wanted a church as as his domain. Naturally my questions were "Who's running the church that you're sleeping in during the day?" and "You're a low generation vampire with lots of resources, but statuswise you're a fledgling?" because he put nothing into status and retainers or the like. He was also interested in committing diablerie and was trying to find ways around being detected via Thuaumaturgy.

Now he's pivoted to being an Assamite instead. I assumed they were all (pseudo)Muslim, but apparently some follow other Abrahamic faiths. The next thing I brought up is that he can't diablerize as he wanted to before(I was fine with this), but he mentioned there was a ritual to bypass that. And looking at that ritual, the only way I see it going down is him proving his clan loyalty by offing the prince or something and being allowed to go down a generation. Third of course, he wants to play an Assamite that's multiple hundreds of years old so his skin color is going to darken severely. He tried to brush it off and I showed him, literally one page before the ritual he wanted to use, that he will not be able to remotely pass as Caucasian or East Asian or whatever. His plan now is to learn Vicissitude to change his skin color; he sent me a pessimistic text saying I probably won't allow it at the start though(I won't unless he wants a Tzimisce pissed over his lack of appreciation for teaching him).

Am I in the wrong for wanting the PCs to fit into the world?

You need to set the game's tone and scope ahead of time, so that you don't have guys like this thinking they can make their special clan giga OC megabadass. If the character is going to immediately derail the chronicle, you're well within your rights to veto it.

Thing is, a lot of weird clan and character ideas can actually be made to work within the frame of a "typical" VtM chronicle setup. You just need a good player that's willing to play ball. You seem to have a player that does not seem to care about your enjoyment, or the enjoyment of the other players. Bluntly, he seems to me like a bundle of red flags. You should probably sit him down and have this uncomfortable discussion before it actually gets to session 1.
>>
>>98685521
yeah but other blood magic group are sadly just fucking stupid

setites purged their sorcerers over religous difficulties and then just threw their arms up and left the market to the tremere

assamites purged their own sorcerers till the time of alexander the great when they started to steal local blood magics (especially from mithras' cult who lost their patron after he went to britian) after having their ass beaten for the first time and declared that those always been assamite magic they then still ignored their sorcerers till the tremere curse

kolduns are actually hard coded to not work together because kupala is a dick

rune wise might as well not exist because there is not a single npc with that merit

and the less is said about abyss mystics the better

and all those been originally written like this and they didn't need to because a lot of those have only been in the setting since 3E and white wolf never really cared to explain where they been before that. It also makes the tremere less "awesome for beating everyone forevaaa" and more "everyone else is just a even worse crayon eater somehow than the guys who been too stupid for real magic"

No, I suppose that's my own fault. My intention was to have a campaign in which the party could choose between supporting the incumbent Camarilla in the city, the newly arrived Anarchs, or the invading Sabbat. So I didn't want to be too restrictive on my players. From my point of view, the restrictions I'm operating under are based on the information in the book and things that make sense. I'd thought about banning merits and flaws to reduce powergaming but saw the consensus was to allow them so I think I decided to be more laissez-faire in general as a result.

>>98685546
I was all for him wanting to play a vampiric priest operating out of a church though I dislike characters based too heavily on fictional characters. His justification just felt flat to me and it was clear he wasn't thinking about things as a whole. I'll admit I gave him an unenthusiastic go-ahead on basing his character on something from an anime so this is not so much me trying to get pity for my situation and more about making sure I'm not being unreasonable.

It's gonna be a bit before things get running, so I should probably lay down some broad restrictions like capping backgrounds to three or something and possibly just gut the Sabbat stuff for the time being since the other players are all Camarilla clans. I like the guy but he pushes for stuff like this a lot which honestly annoys me more than one of our players tending to make boring characters and another making meme/joke characters. I'm perfectly content letting him walk if it comes to it since he's tried to make characters to spite me before when I imposed restrictions and I've got three other players that are at least moderately excited.

They were also IIRC close to getting purged by the Web of Knives back before they got that curse from the Tremere which is why they had IIRC some implied shenanigans about just happening to get a curse that stops the diablerie and then never resolving it until Ur Shulgi just bruteforced it with a couple hundred dead Assamites.
>kolduns are actually hard coded to not work together because kupala is a dick
Was it a +1 to the difficulty of all social interactions with other Koldun for every level you get or something like that?
>>
>>98685680
>Was it a +1 to the difficulty of all social interactions with other Koldun for every level you get or something like that?
something like that in the older book and then dav20 made it that whenever you hear or see that a koldun has a path or ritual you don't have you need to roll to not beeline to get him or frenzy

Whenever the vampire hears of new kraina
and koldunic rituals, the player must make a Willpower roll
(difficulty 4). For every point in the Cainite’s primary kraina,
the difficulty to resist the lure of accumulating further power
increases by one. Failure forces the koldunic sorcerer to make
an subconscious beeline for the source of this alleged power,
even risking the dawn and making excuses for doing so. This
effect can be resisted each following night with a Willpower
roll (difficulty one higher than the previous). A botch on
the initial Willpower roll means the vampire immediately
enters frenzy. Restraining the vampire or obviously blocking
his path will require the player to make a Self-Control roll
for the vampire to resist frenzy (difficulty 7) or an Instinct
roll to direct his frenzy (difficulty 5). Success means the
vampire resists the urge.
When a koldun witnesses another sorcerer practicing one
of the kraina in which he possesses no points, the player must
make a Self-Control/Instinct roll to resist/direct the vampire’s
frenzy (difficulty 7). A point of temporary Willpower cannot
be used to automatically succeed on this attempt.

They didn't. They blew each other the fuck up. The Tremere suffered immense losses in the second Massassa war equivalent to the hermetics.
>But the Vampire material doesn't talk about suffering catastrophic losses
Neither does it really talk about the Second Massasa War. It just didn't occur in that game's timeline. The Tremere of mage aren't the Tremere of VtM, necessarily. Just like how Lupines aren't necessarily Garou.

>szlachta
Average SWAT lets say has 7 dice. So that's 17 dice full auto on DC 8. That's an average of 5 successes, minus a statistical 2 successes for subtracted 1s. Base damage is 7 so that's 10 total damage or 4-5 total damage successes before soak. A szlachta has 8 total lethal soak, so that's 3-4 average successes. So full auto is doing ping damage on these things. If you assume SWAT has 8 dice with a relevant specialty (I wouldn't) you can make that 6~ total damage successes on the full auto vs 3-4 total soak successes or 2-3 damage per hit (so 3~ attacks to kill a szlachta under these uber-SWAT, or 5-7~ declared full auto attacks on what I'd consider reasonable SWAT).

Either way, my money's on the freaky Thingeys.

>>98685736
Well there's the exact quote you mentioned, we can assume the Oracle speaking through Rebecca isn't just bullshitting considering Tremere etc. heed the advice in the end. And it isn't "it would cost them in the Jyhad" it's "We would both be destroyed by the consequences of this."

Compare Page 67 of Blood Treachery "Neither side can defeat the other.."
Page 65 of Blood Treachery "Vampires are victims and reactionaries here.. this is a Mage story.." which is my point about splats being concerned about themselves. Whilst you may think Blood Treachery is equally Mage and Vamp, it's mostly a mage story, which is why mainline Tremere content mostly ignores it, but it stays relevant in mage stories. Though to be fair this same paragraph immediatly contradicts a lot of the book and says "This doesn't have much impact on vampire society.."

Which is interesting considering how many passages state that the two factions can not beat each other? Or it might imply the clans don't care yet and the war can escalate further? Or that vamps genuinely don't care if the tremere just die out?

Anyways, blood treachery is a fucking mess and the way I understand it is they are supposed to be stalemated equals, and "smacked the fuck out of the hermetics" isn't really doing the hermetics justice, it's more like the tremere got smacked the fuck by the hermetics and the hermetics then were surprised the vampires smacked back, or could smack back at all.

>My intention was to have a campaign in which the party could choose between supporting the incumbent Camarilla in the city, the newly arrived Anarchs, or the invading Sabbat.
If youre going that angle I would start them off as Camarilla. Its usually easier to defect from and has less baggage than the other ways around. If a player really wants to be a Lasombra or Tzimisce you could probably handwave it as a shovelhead who had the sense to surrender when the rest of the his pack got mulched.

Going back to your player's Lasombra priest idea. Its actually relatively feasible for him to start with Celerity by taking the Additional Discipline merit. Maybe he was the result of a vaulderie embrace or his sire also had a penchant for wanting to go fast and its a 'bloodline quirk'. Could be funny to replace Potence or Dominate with Celerity if he has childer.

>His justification just felt flat to me and it was clear he wasn't thinking about things as a whole.
If he isnt overly familiar with the system you could cut him a little slack but I dont know his playstyle and character creation habits. If his design philosophy is "anime character expy" then I can relate because we had one guy at our table that would do that and it annoyed me because his characters never fit in with the setting or even the table.

>I should probably lay down some broad restrictions like cappingbackgrounds

>Going back to your player's Lasombra priest idea. Its actually relatively feasible for him to start with Celerity by taking the Additional Discipline merit.
I was going to let him have Celerity as a Lasombre with the freebies, I just needed a good explanation and he was leaning towards having learnt it from an Assamite a long time ago(needed to be fleshed out more, but we could've worked on that). A few days later when I asked how stuff was coming along, he said he wanted to do an Assamite instead which threw me for a loop.

>If his design philosophy is "anime character expy"
He can get really fixated on certain ideas and leans towards expies part of the time. He's in another campaign right now playing as legally distinct Dante from DMC. I chose to sit out that campaign, but he wanted to play in it solely to do the Dante expy even though our last experience under that GM was really rough. Like I said, I said it was okay for him to do his expy in mine, but after thinking for a bit it's a little disrespectful to me and my desire to run a chronicle about vampires.

>his characters never fit in with the setting or even the table.
The lack of desire to fit the setting is a trend. Another time he was mad that I wouldn't let him play a non-anthro kitsune in Pathfinder rather than a kemonomimi.

>Usually for the best. At least start them off relatively even.
I put together a one-page primer so they all have a better idea of what's going on along with some idea of what the faction conflict will revolve around. I limited all backgrounds to three dots and status to one to make sure they're all pretty equal and more prone to cooperation. The main goal was preventing a serious disparity with generations and rank. Haven't heard from the player in question yet, but the player wanting to play Toreador wasn't aware of the generation rules yet and the player wanting to play Tremere was fine as long as he could still use blood potency to temporarily lower it.

In Chronicles, mortals are eligible for "Supernatural Merits" that include stuff like telekinesis. If they gain a template they lose the Merit.
In oWoD, does a human who becomes a vampire lose any Numina they have?
>>
>>98686419
I would assume no since a vampire can still have true faith but numina is not my field of expertise.
>>
>>98686419
True Faith is a 7 point merit for vampires which gives 1 dot of True Faith and requires Humanity 9+.
There's a vampire with multiple paths and artifacts of Hedge Magic in Dread Names, Red List for V20, IIRC.

Shorter session of WtF last night due to family issues.

The Uratha drove into Maldon, looking to scope out the Pure. They recalled that some of the muscle that had been guarding the scrapyard in the first session said they'd been hired after a football match, and with a game on tonight, they went to check it out. There's no stadium, it's a very local team, so the grounds are a park and a storehouse. A few people were repainting the pitch lines and setting up chairs while the group poked about.

Dolly, our Cahalith, noted that in the Hisil, the nearby river Chelmer was streaked with blood, flowing from upstream further in town.

Dodge, our Ithaeur, crept into the storehouse and found a sleeping spirit in the Hisil. A fox with a rats tail, asleep ontop of a rubbish-bag the size of a small car. It stank of rotting meat. Using some gifts, he determined that the Spirit was hungry and would need to eat soon. They figured a scavenger spirit like this would have the lay of the land in the spiritworld, and resolved to come back later and catch it for questioning.

Following the spiritblood stream upriver, the group arrived at a Royal Mail depot. The carpark here was slick with spirit-blood, where it flowed into the river. They watched a young woman leave the depot (unbeknownst to them, this is the Pure pack-leader). What followed her out of the depot was more concerning however.
>>
>>98686526
A heaving, pulsing mountain of muscle and blood forced its way out of a lorry-loading bay. The hatch was barely large enough for this monster, it had multiple gaping maws with fanged and blunt teeth, thick and heavy tongues lolled and lapped from them. Wild eyes rolled with its every motion, blood rhythmically pulsed from the creature. Pulling itself upright, it resembled a human heart. It flopped into the river, and allowed itself to be carried downstream. The bridge buckled and tried to avoid it, fish in the river panicked and docked boats screamed at its passing. Downstream, it pulled itself free of the river and hauled itself through town. Tudor-buildings groaned and creaked, pulling themselves out of the terror's path. A school shrieked and howled as the Heart pulled itself onto the roof, and fell asleep in the midday sun. The PCs watched as blood poured down the windows of the building. 3o'clock came and went and schoolchildren left, making their way home utterly unaware of the horror asleep on the roof of their school. Our Ithaeur learned the spirits name, Sanguine Scourge of Weakness. They've put 2 and 2 together, and realised that this Spirit probably has something to do with those guys who called themselves "The Pure", theorising that it might be their Totem.

We ended the session there, but next week they'll investigate further.

I don't think Vitae/Ghouling would fix her (and would you really take that chance?) I don't know about Mage or Changeling, but a Demon absolutely could take her disability for their covers. You wouldn't even have to say "It's a demon, from Demon the Descent". You could frame them as a Mage or anything you like really, all that matters is your PCs daughter was never disabled. Around town, they might see some paraplegic person and feel a deep disquiet that doesn't quite reach sympathy.

That tends to be all across the map, on top of many being roughly based on early D&D books.. For every Berserk or Vinland Saga, you have a Slayers, Konosuba, or Those Who Hunt Elves. I think most Japanese productions of western mythos come with less tongue in cheek or meanspiritedness than the other way around.

NTA, but with the current media landscape and the neocon slopification of all media following Christopher Nolan, the perspective is more understandable. We had movies were the infallible god (as portrayed by Snyder’s retarded ass) was letting his father perish to natural disaster. There was this great notion across the country that we have to sacrifice shit, freedom, family, friendship, for the greater “good”. While it feels like Japanese media from that era had a genuine and earnest belief as being the defacto message when sourcing from the west, of course. The era of the video nastys was far in the rear view at that point and the rot of a lot of these studios was beginning to become self evident, especially looking at Gundam, but there was an honest belief in the bullshit and esoterics of America that was still respected by Japan as a mutual conservative understanding, they didn’t have to do quite the level of mental gymnastics Americans needed to for plundering the planet and losing every war in the process. These days, shonen anime basically have anti-hero arcs programmed in them by default, so it has more parity with American media than it used to.

>same as it ever was, I suppose.
Nope, everything in volved is much, Much worse than you think. Korea and Vietnam were both intentionally sabotaged by america's own congress. They kept doing shit like making it illegal to bomb major military assets because "There might be chinese ambassadors there", restricting all flight paths to a single corridor that had all the enemy anti-air batteries, and other clearly treasonous shit. Then they had the fucking Gall to write the history books saying "America was just overconfident", when The Motherfuckers MADE US LOSE.

A mage's healing is subject to paradox and dissonance, so that's probably not good enough, but they could summon a Supernal being who could do it permanently if you pass some kind of trial. One of the mage books, either the 2e core or Signs of Sorcery has some examples.

most order of hermes apprentices won't be master sorcerers. the apprenticeship only includes the basics of hermetic philosophy as sorcery and is only meant to be around 3-5 years during which the apprentice becomes more and more schizo because they artificially stretch out the awakening from a single moment to again years which however (allegedly) leaves them less schizo than other tradtion mages afterwards

What they DO have however is kleptomania that'd make a gypsy sweat. Fuck they stole vampiredom. Anything you see them with access to, know they stole it from somebody or something. anon that's not how it is. the tremere are legit the best when it comes of making use of blood magic and are the ones who made blood magic something to feared instead of shunned and ignored

but the problem is that they are still major idiots and the only way white wolf could write around it is by making all the other blood mages they kept retconing into the setting even worse

It's the normal fish in a tiny pond thing. If we could have anyone who isn't a actual retard to bite the blood sorcerery pill during the dark ages then they could have been the ruler of the cainite kind, but like how all clans in the dark age books call out blood magic was just seen as icky, uncivilized and worst needing actual effort that it wasn't worth even by clans that had a blood sorcery style and by the time they noticed that it was in fact worth it it was too late

How strong is mind control in WoD? Is it absolute total control how does it have a billion caveats?
>>
>>98688499
Depends which one.
>>
>>98688499
depends on the mind control: dominate for example can't make you do something completely opposite of your nature (so no pacifists in serial killers with the 1 dot power... 3 dots is another question) in most editions but has the victim rationalize what they did afterwards as their own choice

mind is meant to be absolute, but comes with the caveats all sphere magic comes with

wraiths ridding your body and influencing you can be something you can't even notice to something you can deal with a flick of your wrist depending on if you have necromancy ... and so forth pretty much every splat has some mind manipulation powers

but some supernaturals also have resistance, immunity or powers that give them a dice roll to resist magical mind control and most of them can also try to use willpower to contest your roll on your mind control power. normies are just fucked however

Question for Mage players: let's say I want to play as a rich and influential mage who casts most of his effects by using people he hired. Forces.
Yes it would be vulgar. Depending on your storyteller it might be vulgar even with sniper.
>>
>>98688722
Thanks anon. So I'm assuming that anything involving people conveniently appearing the moment they're needed is generally gonna be vulgar by default?
>>
>>98688689
The thing is
>I want someone who I have hired to shoot someone for me
isn't really a magic effect. If your character has hired someone to do that, then they would shoot the target regardless of the magic used.
One way around this is to have some sort of manservant or financial assistant, who the character trusts with his funds and trusts to sort out all of his needs for him, without any micromanagement.
So a spell could be framed as
>I can only assume that Jeeves has hired a marksman to watch over me, surely he wouldn't be so foolish as to let me risk my life without some sort of fire support.
and then there are two possible outcomes.
One, suddenly your character has the assistance of a sniper who has been hired by his minion, though this probably wouldn't take the form of a damage spell, it would be more like summoning a minion. Depending on how strict your ST is, this is either going to be Entropy 2 alone or Entropy 2, Mind 3 and Correspondence 3. This would be coincidental, but the convenient sniper who showed up at exactly the right time would probably expect to be paid.
Two, your character assumes the assistance of a sniper who is actually there and conjures sniper fire into existence out of nowhere. Depending on how strict your ST is, this is either going to be Forces 3 and Prime 2 since you're making something out of nothing, or Matter 3 added onto that to actually conjure a physical bullet into existence on top of everything. This is going to be vulgar without witnesses (unless a Sleeper actually sees the bullet pop into existence out of nowhere) but your mage won't have to be worry about paying anyone, since there was never actually a sniper in the first place.

Thanks, I probably will. "Here's Huitzilopochtli/Shaitan's tomb, archaeological mayan/aztec adventure to go beat the other faction to eat him before he blows up the fifth sun like he did 3 times already and starts Gehenna" is a strong enough hook IMO. While I can see why White Wolf wanted to triple down on how much fuel they could get out of a book for all 3 splats featuring a past antagonist, my players are newbies who don't care much for Woof/Mage so they'll probably call me a faggot for inserting a Donut Steel they barely know or care about like Haight is.

Now just gotta refresh my Baali history for another contrived way for the PCs to control him because obviously a group of fresh embraces aren't gonna take on in combat what I believe to be the strongest statted Metuselah. Maybe ask for help from the Big Dogs of the PC's respective clans by telling them the Baali are back. Prime (utility) it's the art of making the people under you work better, Mind, correspondence

This is primarily what the syndicate does, If you have a "Wet-worker" on pay roll, you use Prime and mind to improve his performance, giving him a bonus literally makes him preform better as money is just the medium in-which you enchant him. You also gain Tass the more profitable your business ventures are.

Correspondence to have him exactly where you want him exactly when you want him through a series of transportation methods, etc.

If a bullet appeared of nowhere I'd say that'd be coincidental, (Paradox is more about what sleepers see, than what really is.) but that isn't really working through other people however.
>>
>>98688743
Pretty much. Making people out of nothing or having effects caused by non existant people is pretty vulgar no matter how you look at it.

Fag who lives in the Hedge

>>
>>98688792
I'm not that experienced, though I'll preface >>98688767 with a caveat.

Some STs say that Entropy can only be used to control probability from the point of casting onward, and that it can't be used to retroactively shift events so that something improbable happens at that exact moment.
Using the infamous "I summon a taxi" example of Entropy, one ST might say that as soon as you cast the spell, a taxi happens to drive down the street and stop in front of you, while another ST might say that Entropy only starts to manipulate events once you cast the spell, so you'll still need to wait for the taxi to show up even if you've made it an inevitable outcome.
It's a good idea to figure out which version of Entropy your ST wants to go with, if you're going to be playing an Entropy mage.
>>
>>98688779
>Now just gotta refresh my Baali history for another contrived way for the PCs to control him
he has the "Infernal Ranking" investment that makes him for all intends and purposes a mid tier demon in addition to high tier vampire already meaning you could have him be weak to demon/spirit rules depending on which demons you feature and in addition to that he is also still weak to holy symbols as a baali

>Paradox is more about what sleepers see, than what really is.
Paradox is about what a mortal could potentially see. Assume there's always a mortal watching the magic and if the magic does something that this omniscient observer would consider a breach of the rules, it's vulgar. If an actual mortal sees it as well, then it's vulgar with witnesses.

that's not how coincidentality is determined. even by HAB, if a bunch of people suddenly hold different beliefs, its a consensus violation unless the mage was pretending to be a cult leader with 5 charisma 5 leadership that moved everyone to tears
>>
>>98688991
That's why you don't just snap your fingers and make people think what you want them to think, you give lip service to the consensus first by trying to convince them, then using any successes that you roll to subtract the difficulty of the following coincidental Mind spell, since the consensus will interpret it as them thinking the way that you want them to think because you convinced them.

It's extremely easy to make Mind coincidental, so anyone who intentionally builds and plays a mage in a way that makes Mind vulgar is either retarded or intentionally doing it wrong to make their character's life harder.

I don't know shit about what World/Chronicles of Darkness is, but if you need any Mesoamerican history/archeology resources, let me know

t. Meso autist

>Tzimisce
Are they named after the Tzitzimime to begin with?

>the 4 founding gods of Mexico
If by this you mean the "4 Tezcatlipocas", as in Quetzalcoatl, Xipe Totec, Tezcatlipoca and Huitzliopotchli, that quartet doesn't really exist. Like, those deities did, but not as a set like that, see https://imgur.com/zO4Qsv1 (image is 2big to post here directly) and https://www.reddit.com/r/mesoamerica/comments/1w2pb6l/the_four_tezcatlipocas_an_aztec_tradition_that/

>Cipatl
Is this meant to be Cipactli?

>in which the moon chasing the sun means Huitzilopochtli has been...
Keep in mind Huitzliopotchli, while having some solar symbolism and attributes according to common interpretations of the Coatepec mountain myth and through Xiuhcoatl, is not "the sun god", which would be Tonatiuh, who in some myths is said to be a reborn version of Nanahuatl. There's also not really one clear moon deity either, there's Coyolxauhqui (which in the Coatepec mountain myth, represents the moon the same way Huitzliopotchli is allegorically representing the sun, if you buy that interpretation), there's Tecciztecatl, who became the moon in the same myths where Nanahuatl became the sun/Tonatiuh, and I've seen people talk about Metztli as a moon goddess, but I think(?) that may merely be a word for the moon? Wikipedia also mentions Yohaulticetl but I've never heard of her before and I'm skeptical she's a real thing too (though the Wired Humanities Nahuatl digital dictionary says that's a name of a steam bath goddess... apparently the Nahuatl name for the Lords of the Night is also spelled similarly so I wonder if there's a connection there, but linguistics isn't my strong suite, so...)

Mages will always be at their most dangerous they’re acting as advisors to splats related to the various purviews they specialize in

Constantly working with other wizards will get boring very quickly; when everyone’s a wizard, you start to feel less special, or less like a wizard

Therefore, the urge to show off and act all mysterious to werewolves and vampires and such, can be very strong
>>
>>98688234
Did you comprehend a single word I said?
The reason I linked the assamite thing (which is from a Dark Ages book) was to show that assamites had group casts before the Tremere were even formed. Every trick a Tremere has, they stole from another clan or splat, copyrighted it, then claimed everyone was stealing from them.

I would also add that calling Huitzliopotchli the "god of human sacrifices" is even more wrong then calling him the sun god: EVERY deity took some form of human sacrifice, probably. Even Quetzalcoatl, who is widely claimed to have not accepted sacrifices (which is really people getting mixed up with Ce Acatl Topiltzin not overseeing sacrifices in his rule as a Toltec lord, but that's understandable since Ce Acatl Topiltzin's relationship to Quetzalcoatl is confusing), very clearly had sacrifices devoted to him, such as the children's sacrificed remains found at the Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl temple at Tlatelolco, for instance.

Also, as indicated by what I just said, Ehecatl is an aspect of Quetzalcoatl, and I'm not sure it makes sense to list them seperately, but that's very arguable and what counts as a separate deity or not in Aztec religion is an extremely inconsistent and unclear subject... but as far as those things go, I'd say Ehecatl being a variation of Quetzalcoatl is one of the more clear cut examples. Quetzalcoatl as not-Ehecatl is just primarily associated with the arts and culture (so like song, dance, reading/writing, priesthood and intellectualism etc), and as Ehecatl he's a wind god, and also has some ties to agricultural fertility. There's a bunch of ways those two sides of his attributes connect with one another (EX: speech, music etc is depicted in art as spiral gusts of wind, conch shells used in music also blow air, and you'll note in both aspects he often wears the cross section of a spiral conch shell as a pendant, etc) and some broader concepts associated with feathered serpent deities in earlier Mesoamerican cultures which I'm not gonna get into but you can read about here: https://x.com/Majora__Z/status/1886653553810276728

>>
>>98689154
I agree with the sentiment and it's never ever treated consistently. In your case, it is the difference between vulgar vs vulgar with witnesses, I reckon. I always imagine a theoretical bystander (the median goycattle sheep) observing the effect. If he would rationalize it as happenstance or your pure skills, it's coincidental. If the muggle is awed, shocked and terrified because it breaks his entire worldview, it's vulgar. If the theoretical average joe is indeed theoretical, it is vulgar without witnesses.

Quiescence isn’t really a thing in old mage. Mass forgetfulness is only a thing if it’s REALLY severely Vulgar; like trying to take over New York using giant gorillas.
>>
>>98689181
However, in Hollywood these giant gorillas are perfectly coincidental due to Mythic threads and local consensus.
>>
>>98689160
Because that takes a lot of power, knowledge and skill. And if you want to fuck something more than a vegetable, you also need to be a powerful mind mage to create sentience.
>>
>>98689141
Yes, but coincidental spells can still fail and botch, especially if they're not rituals and done on the fly, and casting Mind magic on mortals before every single vulgar spell you cast is not only going to slow the game to a crawl, but it has the potential to backfire.

Tezcatlipoca's description is iffy. I wouldn't say he's particularly more related to time then most deities, and i'm not even sure what "ancestral memory" here is meant to be. The main thing Tezcatlipoca is associated with is, I would say, fate and fortune-misfortune, especially how unstable and fickle it is. He also has various links to rulership, soldiers, priests, jaguars (thru his aspect Tepeyollotl), divination and sorcery, and yes, the night/night sky

Xipe Totec's is also off. His thing is primarily rebirth, renewal, and regeneration, and while that has ties to vegetation and agricultural fertility and by extension the seasons, those are pretty tertiary AFAIK. A common error is saying he's a maize deity, but it's more that husking maize is linked to shedding the old to reveal the new and with flaying skins, which he's also tied to.

Chalchiuhtlicue's description is mostly fine, but "storms" I would say is pretty definitively Moreso Tlaloc's thing. I know Chicomecoatl primarily as a maize goddess, but maybe she has some broader ties to agriculture, not sure. One of her aspects (maybe?) is Xilonen who is particularly associated with young/fresh maize and irrigation, and she in turn also might be an aspect of Chalchiuhtlicue and maybe a variety of other water or earth goddesses like Huixtocihuatl and Toci, and then in turn Tlazoteotl. And yes, one of her main things is Purification (and accordingly steam bathes) but it's one side of a broader coin, which is that she's also associated with "tlazolli" (it's in her name) which refers to a related set of concepts including dirt, human waste, disarray/disorder, moral and sexual excess or indulgence, and in turn vice/sin or deviancy

Lastly I'm not sure if Chantico is actually tied to volcanos, and I can't see what it says about Mayahuel, Huehuecoyotl, ??? and Mixcoatl at the bottom, but I've gone on long enough

You need to decide where you stand. Contemporary humans, at least in the global north, have a far better life than the common man ever had during the dark ages. Healthcare, refrigeration, internet, we're all fantastically more educated, entertained, healthy and safe than we ever were back then and in the World of Darkness, we have the Technocracy to thank for that.

The other side of the coin is that the Technocracy is committed to making this the only reason to live. Back then, it was much easier for a person to make their own life free from the shackles of society. Sure, they'd still need to worry about local lords and the like, but frontiers actually existed back then, it was much more possible to lead a life without being compelled to be part of an established order where your way of life was decided for you. In the World of Darkness, magic was also a hell of a lot more abundant back then and it was a lot easier to become a sorcerer or pursue some sort of numina even if you weren't a true mage, whereas the modern day Technocracy is clamping down on even that as reality deviancy.
A comfortable life of safety and plenty, or a dangerous life full of opportunity and potential. What would you wish for yourself, and are you willing to force everyone else to live the same way to achieve that lifestyle?

I never actually spoke about nightfolk counterspelling being good or bad for the game, I spoke about transmuting werewolves to silver being bad. Personally, I would only allow nightfolk counterspelling if you have specific knowledge (Tremere) or a likewise gift, or the effect is something you could conceivably "struggle" against because it is interacting with you on a metaphysical level (the lawnchar, I'd probably allow you to resist..).
The famous vampire lawnchair is actually used as an example of a completely pointless rote (with the author getting really pissy about it, because wod writers are famously immature), but it explains fairly well why by the mechanics of mage it's a bad idea.
Which like, why would you bother? An arete 3+1WP forces effect has a 60% chance to oneshot any vampire without fortitude, and even then..

I know a bunch of people who can't handle the fact that playing Mage involves playing a character who you know is fundamentally "wrong" about the world from the very outset. A lot of them are unable to come to terms with that and would much rather be able to scientifically tamper with consensual reality on an objective basis, without having to mess around with paradigms and belief systems that make their character look like a superstitious nut who can't accept the reality of the universe.

It's similar to the people who are unwilling to suspend their disbelief and play a werewolf who harbours a simple and flawed perspective of the world and the fight for Gaia, who brushes over the sins of their ancestors to focus on the present fight against the Wyrm. Lots of people can't handle a little cognitive dissonance and demand that the werewolves are either morally clean heroes or villainous monsters to be put down, the awkward middle ground is too much for them.

Vampire is by far the simplest of the three because it doesn't require you to play someone who is fundamentally incorrect in some shape or form, the wrongness of a vampire is focused on their physical condition and how they come to terms with it, rather than the way that they think. To put it plainly, Mage and Werewolf demand that you play a character who is at least a little retarded, while Vampire has no such requirement.
>>
>>98689701
vampire just makes it more explicit that you're not heroes nor playing inherently good people

>>98689715
But all they have to do is some light mental gymnastics to justify drinking human blood to continue to exist, while mages have to cling to fundamentally incorrect beliefs about the universe in order to use magic at all, and werewolves have to accept that they are simultaneously the objective good guys in a war against objective bad guys and that their ancestors were monsters directly responsible for the majority of things wrong with the modern world.

Abon, slavery and serfdom were the Norm back then. The majority of peasants were born as property owned by their lord. The biggest thing to overturn this was the Black Death killing so many people that artisan were able to blackmail lords using the lack of replacements.

Thank you for your wisdom, autist-chan.
>Are they named after the Tzitzimime?
No, the Tzimisce are a vampire clan, Transylvanian Lords with a penchant for fleshcrafting themselves and others, controlling the land, and dealing with elemental demon magic in a quest for Metamorphosis. Seemed ideal for a Flayed God big into renewal and regeneration.
>you mean the "4 Tezcatlipocas", as in Quetzalcoatl, Xipe Totec, Tezcatlipoca and Huitzliopotchli
Oh, so it's a misconception ideated by later historians? Interesting. I did Intend to reflavor these as ancient precolumbine vampires using their powers to pass as gods like they do in other mythologies with other similes (e.g. Mictlantecutli as corpselike necromancer vamps, Quetzalcoatl/Coatlicue as snake vamps, etc.). Seeing your findings I might have to give more importance to other entities, like Mixcoatl and THE Tezcaltlipoca? If any resource would help it would be a correct summary of the must-have major figures/mythology with less redundancy to more correctly mishmash it with Noddist (Vampire) lore. It does seem like Huitzilopochtli was a relatively minor deity that got elevated by the Aztecs as a national myth in order to justify their expansionism, but it's who WoD writers picked to be the BBEG when Tezcaltlipoca was right there
>Is this meant to be Cipactli?
It is, I made a typo. The Wyrm/The Abyss is a primordial entity/place/concept of entropy (don't think too much of it, WoD cosmology and canon are purposefully meant to be contradictory and unclear)
>"tlazolli" which refers to a related set of concepts including dirt, human waste, disarray/disorder, moral and sexual excess or indulgence, and in turn vice/sin or deviancy
Oh yeah, that's Setite fuel.

Frontier living was still a thing and banditry was a significant problem. Opportunities for escaping from the system existed and compared to real life, society was a lot less water-tight. There's no frontier to flee to, no crusade to devote yourself to, to start a new life in the East. The system's everywhere and taxes cannot be escaped, unless you're modern aristocracy.

There's a lot more incentives compelling people to remain wired into the system and unless you go for the absolute deepest wilderness, governments are still likely to be aware of you and be interested in taxes from you.
Anyway, the choice between safety and freedom remains the dichotomy of Mage the Ascension and in the World of Darkness, there's a lot more shenanigans that you can get up to off of the grid, but you also have to worry about the Technocracy trying to make sure that no one gets up to anything like that.
>>

>and just got super obsessed with making shadows instead of looking for what casts the shadow.
They aren't wrong. Dynamic magic comes from Avatars and Only avatars Avatars are proven to be things separate from the human soul that get's invested into people by A.) Psychopomps being a thing and B.) Vampire mages are able to Meet the person their avatar incarnates into despite diablerie and thaum outright proving vampires still have their soul.
Avatars are alien organisms that constantly push mages toward "Ascension", every mage somehow agrees "Ascension" both exists and is something great they should be working toward, but somehow no two mages can agree on what "Ascension" even is or even Why it's good.

It all reads like mages are puppets being pilotted by their avatar to help IT ascend, rather than a goal a human being would organically come to agree with.

I realize this discussion is just the latest front in the war between the magefags who lack the idea of nuance, but I just wanted to share some fun medieval England facts. I say England because this is where the records of this stuff come from, specifically high and late medieval England. I hate how a 1000 year period of history spanning a continent is often homogenized. But it's possible other european countries had similar dynamics. [/spoiler[

If a serf really hated their lord, a common recourse was to escape to a city. Cities would often drag their feet or outright avoid returning escaped serfs for one simple reason: With a few exceptions, living in the city was way shittier than living in the countryside. The countryside was cleaner and people had more living space, so when given the possibility people would try to move out there. With cities being both necessary and always looking for more workers, they became safe havens for serfs that had had enough.

Also, while the black death dealt the mortal blow to serfdom in western and central europe, it was already starting to wane during the high medieval (1000-1350) due to free tenant peasants being economically beneficial for both parties. The only real advantage a serf has to a lord over a peasant that pays in monetary rent rather than labor is that they can't leave without permission, meaning they don't have any negotiating power. But paying in labor hours is so much less efficient most lords preferred tenants.

>Beckett: We raised up Scourges in every city to defend the Masquerade, though of course they know the Thin-Blooded are a sign, a blasphemy, because the curse grows so weak it taints the kine, instead of stealing them from God’s place in the sun.
>Ulwazi: It appears that someone believes in God! I’m an agnostic,
myself. These “Scourges” went out to exterminate weak vampires?
>Beckett: Yes.
>Ulwazi: Perhaps it worked! Nevertheless, this seems like a foolish solution. Why didn’t you let them drink from the elders, to thicken young and thin ancient blood?
>Beckett: That’s...a crime among us.
>Sanaa: They call it “diablerie.”
>Ulwazi: I know, I know. We don’t like it either.
>Rilwan: Xwetanu. They don’t know those rituals. Ask yourself: How long have they hosted blood-drinkers in places like Europe and the Americas? 10,000 years? Five? It sounds impressive when you measure by Genesis, but we come from the beginning of all human time, and so do our vampires. Their elders don’t know how to turn thin blood to thick, new to old and back again.
Sanaa: I heard the Assamites learned it from Ethiopians, to concentrate their blood.
Rilwan: Perhaps that can save them, but it is their values that are lacking. When elders refuse to give anything to their juniors, nothing can save them. When a father won’t release his inheritance, his children starve, and he’ll eventually look over a dusty field he’s grown too old to till. Even immortals should fear this. Yet Caine, Lilith, and this “daughter of Eve” make a sort of sense. The world was made by male and female powers. Surely, the first of us were created man and woman. And if the last mortals of an age reveal themselves, they will be a son and daughter. Or twins, as in Dogon stories.
It's funny when the writers take a moment to remind you that the whole thin-blood problem is very self-inflicted and tied into how vamp elders cling to power no matter how badly it hurts them.

Kinda. The dynamic was different between cities and the countryside back then. In an agrarian society, most of the wealth is produced in the countryside. Which means that rural peasants were often moderately wealthier than their urban counterparts. Probably not in raw coinage, but in total net worth. Bigger homes, but the real thing that saved the peasant money was again the space to have public ovens. So that even those two poor for their own ovens could cook their own food and save a lot of money. Space being at such a premium in big cities, and them being so population dense meant that public ovens were logistically impossible. So anyone who wasn't at least a little rich would have to go to cook houses, where you could either just order food, or bring your own and have them cook it for you. In either case the urban peasant needed to pay the labor upcharge on their food regularly. Cities have always been needed for logistical and military purposes, but in agrarian societies they only contain a fraction of the population since the economic heart is actually scattered across the countryside.

Industrialization completely tips the scales over to the cities, though. It's why the population ratio practically flips. I believe it's 80% of the population of the USA that lives in areas designated as urban, but it might be less in other industrialized countries due to America's urban sprawl. In any case, industrial societies have the economic heart shift to the cities, which is why the current dynamic is more "work in the city to get rich, then move out to the country for better QOL/stretch that money."

The real problem is that this transient way of life makes it harder to form communities both rural and urban. Though who knows what the future will bring, there has been a slow but noticeable uptick in non-retiree migration to rural areas since around 2020.

While garou and kindred have to deal with something other like the beast or rage, mage is fundamentally about human agency. All the problems in mage come from the fact that at their core, mages have the same ordinary human vices as everyone else, like hubris, apathy and complacency. The entire purpose of mage is to illustrate how our petty human squabbles prevent us from ascending.

"Governments" are more malleable and less omniscient than they'd like you to think, especially in bumfuck regions like the Congo. I'm not talking big cities, I'm talking townships and villages, the places that are as untethered from society as the non-cities of the old west.

>Oh, so it's a misconception ideated by later historians?

Basically, yes

>If any resource would help it would be a correct summary of the must-have major figures/mythology with less redundancy

Well, there's not really any overview on Aztec deities that I would consider to be a good starting reference, sadly, but the main ones that were major that you didn't mention in >>98679537 would be Tlaloc (god of rain, lightning, and storms, and tied to agricultural fertility, alongside Huitzilopochtli and Tezcatlipoca I would say he's in the top 3 most important gods); Chalchiuhtlicue and related earth, water, and agricultural goddesses like Chicomecoatl, Xilonen, etc, and honestly I think after that defining "major" becomes a lot more difficult

In terms of avoiding redundant themes and symbolism, that set of Quetz, Xipe, Tez, Huitz, Mictlan, Cipactli, Tlaloc, and Xilonen (which I would pick over Chicome and Chalchi just because Xilonen splits the difference between the water and agricultural elements, but going with Chichmecoatl to leave water entirely for Tlaloc also works), still probably has room for either Mayahuel or Tepoztecatl or the Centzon Totochtin to represent drunkenness and inhibition, though you could argue Tlazoteotl, Xochipili, Xochiquetzal, or Huehuecoyotl could represent inhibition as well, but I think each of those groups represents distinct enough things that one from each is viable.

I know I mentioned Chicomecoatl and xilonen as tying into earth goddeses, but I think there's a lack of proper mother earth deities here too, like Toci or Coatlicue or Tlatecuhtli, but I'd avoid the last of those 3 since she/he is sometimes seen as an aspect of Cipactli who you are already using.

Cont:

Toci might be a bit close to Xilonen or Chicomecoatl, but on the flip side if you then use Coatlicue, which is what I'm erring on, also then using Itzpapalotl (which I would have suggested to represent the Tzitzimime) is harder to justify since Coatlicue, like Itzpapalotl, Coyolxauhqui Tlatecuhtli, the death deities like Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl etc have some Tzitzimime imagery, though I haven't actually looked into the papers which specifically identify which gods were considered tzitzimime yet beyond knowing Itzpaplotl was one of them, I'm kinda just assuming those all were because of shared iconography

I guess actually you could do Coyolxauhqui for the Tzitzimime imagery while emphasizing her moon elements to keep her separate from Coatlicue, or even just focus a lot on Itzpaplotl's warfare themes and have your use of Huitzliopotchli focus on fire elements more then warfare. But if you're not focusing on the fire elements of Huitz much, then that's another missing niche you could use Xiuhtechutli, Huehueteotl, Chantico, or Tonatiuh for

Also I forgot about Cihuacoatl, you could use her for mother earth stuff while still leaving Itzpapalotl for Tzitzimime representation. Apparently also the Ahuiateteo exist for other overindulgence/inhibition deity options. You could probably also throw in some mercantile and commerce deities since you don't have any of those aside from arguably Quetzalcoatl, but I don't know a ton about them

So those are a bunch of options. Ideally you'd do more research on each and pick the ones that both balance minimal symbolic overlap and which tie in the best with the World/Chronicle of Darkness stuff you're linking them with, but as I said before I know jack shit about WoD/CoD so I can't help there, and I expect you're gonna have a hard time finding good info on a lot of these deities if you're not already waist deep into Mesoamerican stuff, since googling things will likely give you BS info...
