So it's all well and good complaining about PF2e being overbalanced and over-restrictive, but what do we do about it? What are some houserules you've come up with to make the system cooler? What has worked at your tables?I made a houserule that the first action each turn spent switching grips/sheathing/drawing an item below a certain bulk is a free action. Being able to switch weapons, drink potions and draw scrolls without the action tax makes it sooooo much smoother and playable, otherwise my players just would never use consumables in combat, like ever.Incapacitation trait is ignored when a creature is below half healthOn initiative, if you roll a 20 you get quickened 1, on a 1 you get slowed 1.

>>98685336I wrote a very long list of things I didn't like about pf1e and its core design but after doing the captcha I had to wait 60 seconds and then forgot and lost the message after refreshing :( Suffice to say I proved beyond a shadow of a doubt for all to see that pf1e sucksThe core bones of pf2e, I think, fundamentally, are extremely good, though I think it's let down a lot by overcorrecting for the crazy imbalance of pf1e and being afraid of player success.
>>98686978>>98685029I agree but I don't like the 3 action system since the system nickel and dimes you for every little thing you do. It would need some drastic things, like making all 2-action spells cost 1 action but giving them a "spell flourish" trait.Your interact houserule akin to 5e is good.
>>98686978The bones of pf2e barely exist. The bones is a revised action system that is entirely dependent on how they budget action costs and not much elseIts all the meat that sucks. Filler abilities that exist just to be an action sink and shitty low impact spells are what defines pf2e
>>98687018>action system nickels and dimes youYeaaaah, it's a little bit how the degrees of success thing sounds really cool, but because it's SO powerful and because crits are SO strong, the game is terrified of actually letting you have a high crit chance so it makes every source of success incredibly stingy, and if you're not allowed a high crit chance than you have to have a sizeable failure chance.>>98687631I think the skeleton that the meat hangs on is pretty good in a lot of ways; like the format of class feats of ascending level. Back in pf1e when you had a variety of feats to select you'd always pick the boring prerequisites at low levels and then the mechanically useful ones at mid-levels and by the high levels you kinda run out of the really desireable feats and have to tide yourself over with all the lesser feats that weren't good enough for you to pick up earlier. It's way better the way you unlock a new and more powerful set of feats every other level. And similarly skill feats, like conceptually as a framework it's a really great idea so that you don't feel so much like you're shooting yourself up for taking something non-combat and flavourful when you could instead be picking up Power Attack and Weapon Focus.(But then of course they screw it up by making the skill feats either really useful in combat (so you're still shooting yourself in the foot if you don't take it) or so incredibly stingy that having a special skill feat to permit you to do something makes you worse at it than if the skill feat was never printed and your GM just made a ruling on the fly.Just comes across as Pazio being terrified of the player - which, to be fair, after the unbalanced mess that was PF1e it's understandable. But it's still an overcorrection.
>>98685029Ive basically rebalanced the entire system to what i want it to be for my home game.>Classes and feats rebalanced>Magic items are more on 5e's scale of power with them being rarer and the players having far less investment slots.>Spellcasting math has been made more favourable and most released spells have been reworked.>Skill feats have been rebalanced and are worth your time picking outside athletics and acrobatics.>Ancestries are far more powerful at level 1 and the freak shit races have the abilities and immunities they should have.>Multiclassing has been removed but ive built archetypes that gives you bits and pieces of classes.
>>98687954>Multiclassing has been removed but ive built archetypes that gives you bits and pieces of classes.I get everything else, but why this one?Multiclass Archetypes are pretty overcentralizing, but I feel like this just sort of pass the buck to those other archetypes.
>>98688542They are just horribly unbalanced and players (who will power game the fun out of their own characters) will choose them than the flavourful ones because they are just better. To expand on how unbalanced they are, certain classes (fighter/rogue) can absolutely just steal another class' gimmick and perform it as well as or even better than them. I'd much rather maintain each class identity while making flavourful but shit archetypes like archaeologist stronger choices.
>>98688615Archetypes like Archeologist really ought to just take up Skill Feat slots. Class Feats ought to be for combat, Skill Feats ought to be for noncombat. When you cross the streams you start having to make choices we don't want to make.
>>98688725You are only saying that because Paizo made it a boring archetype with incredibly mid feats that should just be skill feats. I treated it as an Indiana Jones themed archetype with fist, gun and whip abilities as well as allowing you to be more of a skill monkey.
>>98688758I feel like the indiana jones whip-combat style is more covered by your actual class, like, y'know, swashbuckler or rogue or whatever. While being good at, y'know, Archeology, having knowledge about Society and Language - Archeology is squarely a Skill type of thing!
I have two questions for one, is there a way to get two horses as a Cavalier without multuclassing, and are there any miniatures for chariots. I want to try and build a chariot driver, see what comes out.
>>98689103Anyone can purchase a riding horse/warhorse just from a given city (and a GM might offer more powerful mounts for greater prices like drow Riding Lizards and such) and if you have the Ride feat you should be able to just ride them without needing to make nature checks to handle animals - though they aren't animal companions and thus don't scale in level with you.But y'know, if your GM doesn't deliberately target them too hard I don't think there's anything stopping you from riding around. And if a riding horse does die then it's not TOO hard to get another.
>>98689220But what if I want two animal companions, there's the Druid and Hunter archetypes, but nothing for Cavaliers that I've seen. On that note, I'm really surprised there aren't any chariot archetypes for Cavaliers. I also don't think I've ever seen a chariot miniature, how would it even look on the table.I need to steal my friend's book again.
>>98688879>I feel like the indiana jones whip-combat style is more covered by your actual class, like, y'know, swashbuckler or rogue or whatever.Come back to me when Paizo actually makes feats for whips.>While being good at, y'know, Archaeology, having knowledge about Society and Language - Archaeology is squarely a Skill type of thing!Which is why i gave it some skill monkey shit. Reposting for this thread.I intend to go through the 2E classes and compress feat taxes at the very least reducing the amount of tax just to improve a class feature to minimal one or two investments. My first step on this journey was Championhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1nKxHbnQEdf3HIQc951ekaooRUclkneRGbB99NwLMnyA/edit?tab=t.0Right now I'm thinking of dividing the mount feat into two feats. I just don't know whether to divide it at the base feat grabbing to Imposing Destrier or just to Loyal Warhorse. 2 feats for the mount seems more reasonably than 1.
whats the math on a two-weapon fighter using a pair of Twin & Agile d6 weapons vs. a main hand d8 weapon and an off hand d6 Agile weapon (with potentially more interesting traits)?
>>98692782No-math nutshell: Fighter likes to crit, ergo Fatal trait, ergo Pick + Light Pick.
I know it’d never happen in 2e because that power level is hella gimped, but do any gods have statblocks in 1e? Or would I have to dig up the 3.5 stat blocks to reverse engineer them for the golarion pantheon?
>>98693154Paizo purposefully never statted their proper gods in 1e on purpose. You can find stats for a few of the Old Ones, and there's stats for some Demon Lords, but not the actual gods.
>>98689481Oh, didn't catch that, sorry dude.>>98690727Yeah.
>>98693677I've always felt weird about statting some of the Old Ones and not the normal gods because like, aren't some of the Old Gods supposed to be so far outside the realm of power that even the normal gods don't want to mess with them? Or is the logic that the stats we see of these Old Ones is just a projection you'd be fighting?
>>98694768Well, the game itself ranks the Old Ones as Demigods, while the Outer Gods (Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, etc) are proper unstatted deities, which is, I think, how Chaosium classified them in Call of Cthulhu? But I'm actually not well versed in the Mythos. The normie gods don't want to mess with the Outer Gods, but the Old Ones are kinda whatever. It should be noted even though they're statted, none of them can actually die, unlike the other demigods Paizo statted, so they do stand out in that sense.
>>98692782Short version is the two loadouts do the same damage with Double Slice assuming the traits aren't damage-oriented like the pick build in the other reply. Two-Weapon Flurry changes things at 14th level but you can just switch to the Twin weapons at that point.
>>98689535How do you decide which cantrips are spell-like abilities and which ones are known proper spells?
>>98692782If using double-slice, identical (although since it's a Circumstance bonus you might lose out on other circumstance bonuses not stacking, so worse). If attacking normally with MAP, twin weapons are distinctly (but now vastly) worse. Doing more damage with your first attack is always better because you have higher accuracy and thus more chance of that damage actually getting through. A bonus to your damage on your second attack is less important because it's less likely to land - and also, because it NEEDS you to make two attacks, which depending on your setup is not always feasible, sometimes you only have one action to attack with.Lets say your d6 weapon deals 7.5 on average, your d8 weapon (and your d6 twin weapon on a second hit) deals 8.5 on average Lets say you have 70% chance to hit. With longsword+shortsword, that's (0.7*8.5)+(0.5*7.5), which is 5.95 + 3.75 = 9.7 on averageWith twin dual-weapons, that's (0.7*7.5) + (0.5*8.5) which is 5.25 + 4.25 = 9.5 on average...Also there'd be crits thrown into the mix, which i can't bother to calculate but they'd exaccerbate the difference between the two numbers by a bit.I guess the other thing going for it is that I guess it keeps its bonus damage during the 3rd and 4th hits you make, so if you have like a ranger flurry build and can shit out 6+ attacks per turn and are expecting to make use of this then it'll pay off for itself.
>>98696647Speaking of which, this is why the Forceful weapon trait is dogshit (or, at least, is massively overvalued on most of the weapons that have it, leaving Scimitars and Falchions kinda objectively inferior to similar weapons)
>>98696553Mostly on vibes for the average sheet I do, but at least in this particular case I "spent" most of the SLAs on fairly generic "healing" (not HP) spells designed to do the job of those various "you need to break out of it, this isn't you!" moments that you always see in various anime and the like, especially in Maho Shoujo shows specifically.(Relatedly, that's also why their Will saves are their weak saves, because these girls seem completely unable to stop themselves from getting mind controlled left and right in these shows.)I also did endless Magic Missiles because not doing that felt like a crime. From there, the expression of a given MG is instead expressed in her Sorc loadout (which, since she casts as one, those spells can be swapped out under retraining rules), of which for the base model I figure level 3 spells are a decent "stopping point" for most of the generic effects you'd want to have that could represent any given girl's abilities, so like a Fire-based girl could have Scorching Ray and Burning Hands, a Summon-specialist girl could have the Summon Monster spells, etc. When I get around to making the Advanced version that's implied in the lore for this one, one of the abilities will be that Greater Mahosho will be able to apply the Alebrije template (found here, it's a bonkers template https://aonprd.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Lion%20Alebrije ) to one summoned creature each time she summons a creature that would be affected by Celestial or Fiendish from the base summon monster rules.
>>986832612eAre there any feats or archtypes that would help with building a following? I want to attempt gaining followers so I can eventually start a city. The first thing I can think of is Group Impression.
>>98697497Actual city-building is beyond the purview of most campaigns (although the Kingmaker campaign has a whole subsystem for it), but off the top of my head:>Entourage Diplomacy Skill FeatPretty cut-and-dry "here, take your damn followers" feat. Mechanically very limited, and also Rare (for some reason).>Captain ArchetypeGain an animal companion like the Beastmaster archetype, except it's a person. This is the archetype to gain a dedicated combat follower. It also has a couple of other quirks. The Cadre feat is essentially a different flavor of Entourage, giving you a gaggle of followers that don't do all that much. Meanwhile, the Additional Follower feat lets you recruit up to four extra combat followers and swap them out like Pokemon. Mechanically, that's a very niche benefit, but it gives you a way to recruit a permanent, four-person party of loyal NPCs to hang out with.Heads up: animal companion builds are very feat-heavy. If you want to actually get some combat mileage out of your follower from Captain you will need to build around it.>Society's Courtly Graces/Streetwise into Leverage Connections/Underground Network Skill FeatsUseful for characters who don't have Diplomacy. Leverage Connections gives you a limited ability to use Society instead of Diplomacy to Make a Request. Underground Network does the same for Gather Information. For Diplomacy in general, Glad-Hand plus Shameless Request let you basically try to ask anyone you meet for any kind of favor (within reason) with very little risk of offense. Other than that, the standard "make your Diplomacy roll better" skills are all good picks. Group Impression, which you already mentioned, would fall into this category.I throw these options out here mostly because they relate to this topic, but I feel like 90% of what you want to do is just going to involve roleplay regardless. None of these feats directly contribute to city-building, they're just different flavors of being popular.
>>98697637>None of these feats directly contribute to city-building, they're just different flavors of being popular. Thanks anyway, I can work with some of this.
Just hit level 7 and got Prescient Consumable for my merchant character. My DM ruled that using it in a settlement essentially means I can just buy any level 3 or lower common consumables without having to hunt for a shop. Any recommendations for consumables to pick up?
Pharasma is a huge loser and undeath is actually super cool. You can trust me, I’m not Urgathoa in a fake mustache or anything
>>98702517A couple good ones are Potion of Emergency Escape, Cat's Eye Elixir, Blood Booster, and Retrieval Prism.
>>98689103>>98694201No, as far as I know a single classed Cavalier can't get another horse. One option is to go four levels of Cavalier to qualify for Horse Master, then multiclass into another class giving you a horse like Mad Dog barbarian or Wild Child Brawler (to name two full-bab alternatives) and take Boon Companion for your new horse. That way you get two companions at full level. Or you can just play a Sacred Hunstmaster Inquisitor with the Chivalry inquisition to get two horses with no further investment required. If you absolutely want to be a single classed Cavalier with two horses then your best bet is probably to buy a warhorse that you direct with Handle Animal in addition to your mount.

Do you think 3E will bring back spellcasting foci? Staves already exist, but as a bonus. A wizard doesn't need a staff in the same way a fighter needs a sword. What classes do you think would specialize in which? Sorcerer seems like an easy fit for unhanded casting, like a magic monk. Thaumaturge would be able to use all of them and get extra bonuses for duel wielding.
>>98714362I wish it more closely followed it's FTL inspiration and just gave a map for the enemy ship. Would it work for uneven battles with swarms of enemies? Maybe not. I'd prefer it still.
>>98714362Would it be better with a fancier line? Like put the ship in the middle of Ryuutama's egg map?
>>98720578Well, crystal already feels redundant sitting right next to orb. I'd swap that out for jewelry, like how Thaumaturge has amulets. It can have a crystal in it and ties back to stuff like 1001 Arabian Nights and that bad Nic Cage wizars movie. It could have bonuses to stealthy casting or be impossible to drop.Staff would be a go to for both casting and melee. Unless you're playing a specific class built around both magic and melee, like a Paladin and their shields, you'd use a staff for melee damage.Rod and wand are similar, in that they're both sticks smaller than staves. I don't really know what they'd do. They're sort of the default, so maybe they'd have an jack of all trades utility?Crystal balls are used for fortune telling. I think they'd work for occult casters or more controlling type classes.Digging through taumaturge for more ideasChalice is a cup. I think it'd help healing classes. Jesus gives people wine from cups. Druids collect blood in cups.Mirrors are reflective. I think it'd be a defensive option. For people who can't use shields. Sort of like staves, but opposite.Tomes... Yeah, I kind of got nothing here. Keep that shit in your backpack. Better yet, outside the dungeon. First option to be cut. Regalia isn't a unique category of object. It's a collection of cultural garbage from around the world. Kind of already covered by jewelry as well and wands. Clothes shouldn't be a focus because it's not in your hands. I can wrap a necklace around my hand at least.
>>98717253I like the general idea of playing a conflicting race/class IC. I know it's somewhat of a shitpick, and that's part of the fun for me with making something like that work as well as it can.I am open to build ideas, general plan was to make a melee greatsword frontliner and figured perhaps a dip in brawler or fighter would be efficient at a certain point. 14 Cha at base would be tough to work in a monk dip I think.

>>98728309I cant really blame them. If i could cast space magic then no doubt i would be casting memes as spells at people. We had a whole adventure in my 1e campaign of the hyper autistic SRO going shopping for retro games.
>>98728309Sometimes I feel like the dickhead who kept posting "Starfinder is best when you lean into being goofy as fuck!" on here got hired by Paizo. Why couldn't they have fixed the shitty gamist economy/ftl and the starship combat rules and left the setting alone?
Okay, a lot of the starship combat rules are things I was planning on implementing in 1e anyways (deployable drones players can use as snub fighters, ships making death checks) and some of them are good ideas (Bringing over Reflex, Fortitude and Will and having them associated to piloting, engineering, and scanners) but replacing the hexmap with a numberline is fucktarded and it seems way too abstract for "tactical" space combat.
>>98728309Y'know I would respect them doing their own thing and having their own identity and style but damn do does the identity suck. It's so... 2020's... I HATE the 2020's!>>98729414TBF these things aren't mutually exclusive or fungible, it's not like they took out work from the 'economy and starship combat budget' and put it into the 'annoying flavour budget'. If they got rid of the emoji spells that wouldn't make the starship combat any better.
>>98729501>NumberlineYeah, it's one of those things that kinda... abstracts away the part of spaceship combat that you *want*. Reminds me of the, Mass Combat War rules from Mathew Colville that I was initially excited for; but having all of your units assembled in purely abstract 'tiers' without any concept of a battlefield that you actually place your units on just sucked all of the joy out for me. I wanna visualise where my dudes are, whether they're standing on a hill or in a forest hiding in the trees.
>>98730371I think they just wanted to avoid having to create a whole new game, one that already proven itself to be unfun back in SF1e.And unlike something like mass combat where you can argue turning the game into Warhammer makes sense, space is space. There isn't a lot of land or things you have to avoid. I ran into the same issue making content for my custom PF2e pirate campaign and doing any boat combat. No matter how many stalagmites and whirlpools I added, it just amounted to one guy circling the boat around the hex map, if not just standing around, taking potshots at the enemy. It might as well just been a numberline.I think a simple homebrew to add a bit more depth (literally) is to simply use two number lines stacked on top of each other to mimic the Z-axis of space. But I probably want to read the full rules before I add anything else.
Reading Infernal Inheritance and the Hellfire recap chapter in the beginning really lays out how gay and retarded the lore is.

Has enough time passed? Are we allowed to say that necromancer isn't the best thing since sliced bread now? Monopolizing necromancy AND minionmancy of any kind, and being occult were both bad decisions
>>98734134It should of never of been solely a "necromancer". It should of been an overlord class with necromancer being a subclass for it.

>>98734632>Occult is just the catch-all for spooky scarywhich doesn't even make sense in the first place, since it started as the bard listit makes sense for the bard to use more subtle and mysterious magic, but not horror-themed magicso it's psychic powers, cosmic horror, a bit of fey shit, music power, and now it's also somewhat associated with necromancy
>>98734391What do you mean by Overlord class? I can only find D&D homebrew.
>>98734558Would it be better to go back to D&D's spell categories? Divination, necromancy, etc., etc.? Maybe the devs could create new categories?
>>98734134I bet 3E will give the Summoner a horde feat for people who want an army of smaller eidolons. That's pretty much all you need for necromancer.
>>98730637SF2e mostly fixes the complaints about SF1e's ship combat with the battlestations system and making non-pilot/gunner actions more meaningful though. They should have kept hexes and just reduced range/movement or had "zones" refer to megahexes where you picked the individual hex to move to when moving but you still have a positional map with more directions than "front" and "behind".Really the issues with SF1e's starships boils down to a few necessary things that needed changing.1. DCs should have been based on ecounter/hazard level rather than ship tier. A ship getting harder to pilot as it went up in level was counterintuitive.2. Spell arrays should have been more commonly available and "special ability enabling" equipment should have been the default expectation.3. The rules should have supported launching a drone fighter or a fighter pilot wannabe flying a small ship as escort without signing their death warrant.I don't think it's out of line to say "Millenium Falcon+X-wing" is the player fantasy and the ship combat rules should be written to support that. Whether that means escape pods work flawlessly or whatever else it takes.
>>98730360It's just that I want improvements to the system without having to projectile vomit from awful sparkledog furry fanart every other page.
>>98734134>Monopolizing necromancy AND minionmancy of any kind, and being occult were both bad decisionsNone of the pre-existing necromancy options for everyone else was deleted. It's like saying Investigator monopolized skill monkeying. And they explained that Occult is the middle ground between Arcane and Divine. Both in the sense that it provides everything you need to support your undead summons and the character fantasy of someone that is rigorously studying forms of magic more unknown or taboo.>>98734391I can at least kind of agree that Thralls are too good a concept to only be on Necromancer and I hope other options will come soon. I like Team+'s idea with giving Thralls to Alchemist with their alchemical plant and bottled monstrosity subclasses. But ultimately, Necromancer just works the best as a class. When you consider how many options were provided to make any class a Necromancer and people still weren't happy, and Paizo saying "yeah classes are what sell", Necromancer was always going to be a full class. I think it has more justification than Gunslinger being a full class imo.>>98734913We do have Swarm Eidolon now. Thralls don't really help Summoner's gameplan compared to that. You can't even use them with mini-explosion bombs with Ostentatious Summoning, since that works with Minions, not Thralls.
>>98731730I think what happened is whoever was in charge of SF1e's setting quit or was fired and they decided to put the woman who wrote the skittermander adventures in charge of the setting, ignoring the fact the skittermander adventures were popular because they were free.Even when the art isn't full of rainbow haired furries it doesn't look good. Most of the spaceships in Tech Core look like someone took pictures of models built with Lego or Snapships and then had someone from ArtStation paint over it. All the proportions are toylike.
>Want to dual class>Want to double up on spellcasters>Want to pair up multiple spellcasting traditions to cover weaknesses and boost strengths>It's objectively worse than just making a martial with utility casting>It's objectively worse at combat than fighter and literally anything else that hits shitMust casters still be punished for the crimes of their fathers?
>>98734828Schools are something different. And those could have used some work even if they tied in pretty well to Runelords.
>>98734679Occult is kind of a catch all list at this point, I think. There's no coherent through-line, it's just the arcane list giving up some of their stuff to steal the good stuff from the divine list.
>>98734828Traditional D&D schools have always had a lot of awkward overlap, like when you have a spell that's like "a 15ft radius region erupts with clinging vines!" are you CONJURING those vines or are you TRANSMUTING the floor IN to vines? "Summon an orb of fire!" are you CONJURING that firey orb or EVOKING it?And then 'Necromancy' comes up which feels notably inappropriate as a name for a 'healing' spell but neither does 'conjuration' feel right. It was always clearly not designed for non-wizards which was weird when it applied to wizard spells.I think PF2e's Trait system more or less does it just right as far as categories go. "Fire" spells have the "Fire" tag. Mental spells have the Mental tag, Illusion spells have the Illusion tag, Healing spells have the Vitality tag or whatever.
>>98735222>not canon post remaster
>>98735256Yeah, but classes need to assign spell. "This class gets Primal spells" or "This class gets Divination, Abjuration, and Evocation spells" is an easier solution than giving every single class it's own unique spell list.
>>98735256>are you CONJURING those vines or are you TRANSMUTING the floor IN to vines? You're EVOCATING life force!
>>98735256>And then 'Necromancy' comes up which feels notably inappropriate as a name for a 'healing' spellUnironically my biggest disappointment with losing Spell Schools was that Heal no longer had the Necromancy tag. I genuinely adored that realization. It doesn't matter how godly and goodhearted you make it, you are literally stitching flesh and resetting bone back into place. You are doing all the standard practices of traditional necromancy, you just aren't messing around with souls or the underworld to do it. Pretty sure if the spell "Heal" was more accurately called "Sew Muscle" or "Restore Organs" or "Blood Transfusion", you would get why it has the tag instantly.

PF2EGMs how do you play combat faster? I've been trying to speed up my combats since they take a while. My players take their turns in a reasonable time. What ends up feeling like it takes the most time is controlling 4-5 NPCs and each one having different effects the players have to roll for. That or trying to figure out what the monster will do on its turn. Is it just the nature of them all being level 10 and fighting more complex creatures?
>>98737506Rusthenge is a short and fun campaign. It can lead into Seven Dooms for Sandpoint after if you wish.

>>98738258I play on Foundry and have downloaded probably two dozen automating modules to smooth out combat. A lot of the rolls, like affliction saves, persistent damage saves (and their damage) etc. are all done automatically. >>98738972What would you say the actual biggest issue is?
>>98740223NTA but for many people, its how CRAMPED the damn map is. The average 4-man party basically have no room to navigate or do their thing. Woe if you bring an animal companion in. Combine with a fairly blase plot and there isn't much to actually like Abomination Vaults for other than being a megadungeon. This is why I say double the map size if you can, it genuinely plays to 2e's strengths more.
>>98739890What are you using? I mainly have workbench and toolbelt. Honestly one that applies debuffs would be the best. I have an alchemist and witch who have tons of debuffs.
>>98740223You go through an underground structure that is just a bunch of super contrived theme parks stacked on top of each other as levels. And you get to learn about how much more interesting the place used to be before it fell into ruin through direct exposition.
>>98740946I'm not sure I have anything specifically for debuffs, though you could streamline it through toolbelt if you haven't already. There's an option called "giveth" where your players can drag and drop the effects from their spells/abilities on to enemies themselves, making it so you only have to do the saving throw. If you include afflictions in debuffs, pf2e afflictioner is a must have, it'll automate each stage of an affliction so long as you have some sort of time keeper like the calendaria module.
>>98737976It was just a thematic mess.Magic space stuff is something everyone says they want but actually doesn't give a fuck about. It's too expansive for fantasy fags and too fluffy for people that like space opera.

1e question for the mathematically disadvantaged like myselfFor character creation on core attributes, what does 4d6 drop lowest roughly equal out to on average compared to a point buy? 20pb?
>>98751246The average of 4d6 drop lowest is 12.24. If you round that down to 12, that means 12 Point Buy, which is slightly more than Low Fantasy but lower than Standard Fantasy. If you're mathematically disadvantaged I recommend making use of anydice.com, its a great site to check stuff like this.
>>98687018I understand the general idea of the three-action turn but I think it fails to do what it was intended to do. It's as bad as the full-attack-action in 3.PF but only bad differently. What TTRPGs need to do is completely decouple movement from attacks so there's no trading between movement and attacking, characters (PCs or monsters) need to be able to do both every turn.
>>98751452Ironically, 5e fixes this.
>>98751397Bookmarked, ty
>>98751452>What TTRPGs need to do is completely decouple movement from attacks so there's no trading between movement and attacking, characters (PCs or monsters) need to be able to do both every turn.Exactly. It's one of the main reasons I love Spheres of Might for PF1. Instead of doing a full round attack, you use your standard action for a special attack action and then your move is free for whatever you want.>>98752073True, but it screwed up the swift action in turn.
>>98751452>>98752073Pretty much most systems before PF2e "fixed" this "problem", Move Action was that. The Full-Round Attack was actually a fix to a different problem associated with how...genuinely OP the Fighting Man/AD&D2e Fighter was. 5e Extra Attack is more a return-to-form to how they functioned, they just kept being able to hit all full bonuses. They wanted to make it so that there was a logical decision between movement and attack. The bigger problem with FRA wasn't even how badly it limits martials, but how it just nowhere near equivalent to a spell (and it being something of a mathematical headache at times) for how all-or-nothing it is as an action.Trading movement for attack or vice versa is a valid design goal for a TTRPG. Especially when you consider you don't even need movement, it could just be theater of the mind or front-row/back-row or whatever you decide to abstract distance in combat. I like the 3-Action System a hell of a lot, but I can't say every game benefits from it or haven't experience choice paralysis thanks to it. I will say though that it is far more freeing than a Full-Round Action, especially knowing the design goals of that idea. Just because a lot of things that 2 out of 3 points, it doesn't mean they are equivalent.
I have seen a number of players in my PF1e games do this, and I'm curious if it's only within my friend group or a common strategy. I call it the "poorly optimized ranger strategy".>Player picks a class that seems interesting to them based on class description>Does not give significant thought on how that character will perform in combat>Buys the character a bow or crossbow, and much of combat is just them making a single basic attack with their bow>Class features do not see significant enough use, they're basically just playing a really bad rangerI notice it commonly among Bard, Rogue, and related classes. Also, why is it so, so uncommon for anyone to want to play a melee-focused character? If I get a rogue that knows what they're doing, they're going to struggle to get sneak attacks because no one can properly flank with them.
>>98755695At low levels that is actually pretty much the optimal strategy for caster classes, mostly because there is actually fuckall class features to actually use beyond very limited spell slots, and cantrips perform worse than a crossbow. So, the most of combats are ranged spam and spells only come into play when something actually threatening appears, or for various non-combat uses. It should balance out eventually when more spell slots become available.Whereas the rogue might just be retarded and not understand how the sneak attack works, though if there is no flanking partner it might explain it a bit.Nobody playing melee character sounds like your own group problem, in my groups everyone eventually seem to gravitate into DEX to Damage melee characters.
>>98755695It's...definitely a thing. It's a very Dunning-Kruger approach to optimization, to put it harshly. They see a safe and reliable strategy and think it is the best way to play combat. Ignoring ALL forms of understanding the actual meta or design that go into combat, even ranged (the moment they need cold iron or silver ammo is the moment they quit the game). Usually it is either they just...CANNOT remember anything about the game or genuinely uninterested in combat and more want to hang out with friends. Either case, it should be something you talk about.>Also, why is it so, so uncommon for anyone to want to play a melee-focused character? This one is more your table, though. Fighter is always the basic bitch option all through d20 fantasy games because there is nothing more practical and easy to comprehend than "monsters' heads go squish under the hammer". Melee is a dangerous game that does require you to do shit and actually read the book to not just die (and understand the dying rules when you do), so even the layman knows that you have to put a bit more effort than buying a longbow and take potshots. But the appeals of melee combat are...honestly the reason they are playing D&D-likes to begin with.
>>98705690Can't you just buy a second horse?
>>98751246>For character creation on core attributes, what does 4d6 drop lowest roughly equal out to on average compared to a point buy? 20pb?Yeah, 20pb. The normal pb for society play was actually 15pb back in the day, before a math nerd on the forums showed that 4d6 drop lowest was closer to 20 than 15, so they changed it. >>98751397The average may be 12.24, but that's not a useful value since what we're really after is the distribution. For example, with 4d6 drop lowest there's a 7.25% chance of rolling a starting 16, which is worth 10 in a point buy. If you multiply that chance (7.25%) with its value (10) you get the expected pb value for one outcome (which is 0.725). Repeat that for every number 7-18 (excluding 3-7 to simplify) and you end up with the expected pb value of a single 4d6 roll, which is 3.35.Multiply that by six (for every ability score) and you end up with ~20 pb.
have they added more prosthetic/clockwork archetypes since sterling dynamo? It's been hard to keep up
>>98756718Math retard here, this makes more sense to me because I felt 12pb was awfully low for 4d6 drop lowest even after being told what the other anon saidThe reason I ask is because I was thinking of giving each player the OPTION to go pb or roll, and wanted to make both options seem comparable
2e. is it possible to play a d12s martial that isn't just a strikebot? I wanna roll d12s but I also want to make meaningful decisions in combat instead of just doing a routine and maybe trying to mitigate that routine being disruptedor do I have to play a caster for that
>>98760421The literal only meaningful decision that you can make in 2e is dealing damage, the game is not built with the idea that you can solve the game in any other way.
>>98760421I mean, what do you have in mind? The basic workflow here is everybody who uses a weapon starts off wanting a d12, but by the time you've met your build requirements you've often downgraded it. Better traits or less hands cost you dice, so if you need those things, you'll end up with something smaller than a d12. You want Reach? Biggest Reach weapon is a d10. You want Agile? Biggest Agile weapon is a d8. You want a free hand? Biggest one-hander is a d8. If you don't need anything that the d12 weapons don't have then there's no reason not to use one. There's a bunch of builds for two-handers. Most people prefer Reach ones like the Glaive or Guisarme to the d12 weapons because Reach kicks ass, but there's nothing saying you need a Reach weapon if you'd rather just see bigger numbers.
>>98760459I have been playing a foxfire thaumaturge for 9 levels under the assumption season of ghosts was going to be a low combat high RP utility character-friendly campaign with lots of haunts and stuff to interact with and it was all a lie. it's just like every other AP. swinging d4s has been ruined for me and I just want to roll some dang d12s, the most beautiful of diceobjectively speaking it's actually been fine I just really want to never see d4s again after this. they aren't fun to rollbut basically I just don't want to do the same thing every turn but also want to be a big weapon martial. as long as I have decision points and can affect battles beyond swinging the d12s (while still swinging d12s) I'll probably be satisfied as long as there is capacity there to do stuffkind of looking at a fighter or maybe a precision ranger with a commander archetype. we don't play free archetype but it seems doable
>>98760502actually on second thought ranger sounds horrible thanks to the whole hunt prey thing. I was mostly just thinking of precision edge giving me more damage for fewer attacks per round but that doesn't actually work out
>>98760515It is pretty much the only way you can get a d12 damage on a class with a rider and actual utility that ISN'T a Barbarian. Or Inventor but>lol>lmaoHunt Prey really isn't that bad. If you are fine with Thaumaturge's action tax, Hunt Prey is much easier to deal with.
>>98760531it just seems kinda bad in tandem with wanting to have Gather To Me and such availableI could also just go full commander I suppose considering that class's whole thing is utility and being a (mostly) full martial
>>9876031520pb it is then. If you're interested in a middle ground between rolling and pb then there is the Harrow character generation. The idea is that you set the total available points to a fixed amount and then randomize the distribution of them through the drawing of what's essentially DnD tarot cards. It gives you a lot of backstory inspiration too. Normally you'd need a deck of cards and 2 jokers but there are python scripts available. This is the variant I usually use. Every spread generated through this method will be equal to 20 pb. >https://www.online-python.com/8SHMhGFD97You start from the highest number and "cash in" the points for the equivalent point buy, then go clockwise and continue. If there are any leftovers you carry them over to the next ability score. So in picrel I'd end up with a STR 13, DEX 14, CON 9, INT 15, WIS 13, CHA 13 before applying the boons to boost my CON at the expense of CHA for a final statline of:STR 13, DEX 14, CON 12, INT 15, WIS 13, CHA 10Both of which are 20 pb. Choosing exactly where your points end up with point buy is of course stronger though, so last time we used this system we gave everyone the choice between 20pb and generating three Harrow spreads with 25pb. >https://www.online-python.com/RFS8HdiUzr
>>98749503Based
>>98760421You could invest really hard in Intimidation or archetype into a spellcaster. A two-handed Magus is a thing, for example.Otherwise most things require either weapon traits (which you largely won't get on a d12 weapon) or a free hand (which you won't get on a d12 weapon either.)I suppose you can sorta get a d12 weapon and a free hand with a Bastard Sword (or iirc there's like a dwarven war-axe which is also two-hand d12) and the Fighter feat 'Dual-Hand Assault' if that's still a thing.

I want to play a vampiric angel type character in PF2e, however obviously dhampir and nephilim are mutually exclusive, so any ideas on workarounds? I don’t really wanna do the vampire archetype, I don’t even think I could get my GM to go for it anyway. I guess, what’s better mechanically, aasimar or dhampir? PF1 questionIf someone has multiple items (each a different slot or slotless) that each grant +2 Int, and each has a skill associated with it do you get each skill bonus? I know the Int bonuses won't stack, but I'm curious if the bonus ranks are each for a different skill, would you get them all por just one items bonus?
>>98769967Technically speaking that skill rank bonus is tied specifically to Headband of Vast Intelligence, not in INT bonus itself. You can see example of that in Crimson Sphere Ioun Stone which does not provide similar bonus rank bonuses. So, you can of course make custom items that take separate slots and copy that specific effect from the headband and they should probably stack with each other, but you should also realize that copying specific effects from gear to different slots is quite firmly in homebrew territory.
How would you feel about the following trap in a PF1e game: A rock that when viewed through the spell detect magic (or the power detect psionics if Dreamscarred Press books are allowed) requires you to roll a fortitude save or be blinded for 24 hours.
If Paizo announced the Shifter Class for PF2e, what would you want it to look like?>A Two-Slot Caster? Like the Magus, Summoner, or Necromancer?>A Feat-Based Caster? Like the Kineticist?>a total martial take on primal energy?
>>98773020Somewhere between B and C - feats to add new forms and actions, as well as some feat-based pseudo-spellcasting, but mostly a pure martial
Is there any actual reason for clerics and paladins to be different classes?>both heal>both wear armor>both swing weapons>both have magic
>>98773020Why are you regurgitating reddit threads?
>>98773020>commit to killing Wildshape by removing Untamed Druid>commit to killing the Gary Gygaxism of Barbarians only being dumb raging meat sacks>make a shifter class that combines the mechanics of Rage and Wildshape into a more coherent and intelligent character fantasyCall it 3E Barbarian or Warden or whatever I guess.
>>98773042I'm bored. You'd be surprised how often it works.
>>98772817
>>98772719Sounds fair. It's a Blindness-Deafness (lv 2 spell) trap but with a shorter duration and a specific trigger. The party would be in a lot more trouble if the trap worked on normal sight, or if it was a touch-trigger floor trap with Mask Dweomer built in to hide the magical signature.
>>98773057>off topic pucky thread with the OP already deletedAnother victim of the woke mob
>>98773020Total martial with Legendary Unarmed attacks. Maybe some focus spells but they probably be better off being on Druid/Ranger, if not let them share them. Just take the Werecreature and Clawdancer, toss in some Summoner Evolution feats, check in with the Nanocyte archetype for some additional ideas, and call it a day. Cannot fuck it up like they did with Daredevil's playtest at the very least.I would then ask for a 2-slot Primal gish. Like Wylderheart but as a full class, a mix between Ranger and Champion (Wylderheart would honestly be a perfect name for it but lol, lmao.).also yes i noticed this is on the subreddit but im banned from there so thank you i guess?>>98773034Sometimes an idea is too widespread and have too much historical baggage to mesh back together. Paladins and Clerics (and Warpriests) have clear overlap in functionality, but much like Wizards and Sorcerers, their primary play patterns and design goals are so diametrically opposed to each other. The design space benefits from having more classes that can express their role better than trying to make one class have multiple role options.Granted, it is easier to say this about PF2e than it is 5e where Cleric and Paladin both can do everything and anything whatsoever and the fanbase will never actually want them nerfed to reasonable ideas (god bless the Divine Smite nerf) so...........
>Have crew that is experienced in PF2e >For a laff, do the Beginners Box with them >They basically just saw blade their way through it>Only real risk was random crits on their squishy level 1 assesAbout what I expected, though even I underestimated howuch having the basic competency to remember to flank would effect things. Still kind of fun, and is going to lead into Trouble in Otari (where I'll ramp up the difficulty), so feels about right
>>98768160I remember back around the time 2e first released I played a sword+board champion with the marshal archetype all the way through an Age of Ashes campaign. It was fun, and I really liked him, but this was back before Defensive Advance existed so I was super strapped for action economy, and this was also during the time when you couldn't pass the marshal's skill checks with Assurance. Another guy in the group is doing essentially the same build now, like six years later, and seeing how much of an easier time he's having breaks my heart a little.
I want to make a villain like Lady Maria, who fights with a gun and sword. Are there any good feats, abilities, etc. that can facilitate this or offer guidance on homebrewing unique monster abilities?
>>98776466You can look at the Sword and Pistol feat, as well as the Stab and Blast feat. Those are good starting points.
Man, this general is fucking dead now. I haven't been here since people were trying to split the general up by edition. What happened?
>>98776744Basically, 2e was designed to be a solved system so as to make things "easier" on the GMs and Society runners, which means that the usual theorycrafting that gives people a reason to get invested outside of the game they're currently playing in didn't exist.
>>98776753It doesn't help that the lore developments are, at best, inoffensive and boring. A great part of discussion in these Generals used to be NPCs, APs and the lore itself. People don't really like talking about that anymore because the well has been utterly poisoned. What few bits of lore that don't trigger either trannies or chuds has been chewed to splinters.
>>98776805>What few bits of lore that don't trigger either tranniesLiterally every lore change has been made to pander to these freaks, what the fuck would trigger them?
>>98773236Yeah, but it'll fuck the person casting detect magic outside the door of every room.
>>98777084Working as intended.
>>98745224Biggest problem on the space opera side is how clumsily they implemented gamist things such as magic item economy and travel times into the setting. You can't have a mid-level knife cost more than a car when you've already established mass-production works the same way it does in real life, and UPBs moved everything into the realm of post-scarcity and obliterated any excuse for interplanetary trade. They should have gone with a Defiance of the Fall type solution and said that anything above item level 5 needed hand crafting or was done with cost prohibitive AI systems that were effectively the same as hand crafting. UPBs should have been a fluff thing for repairs rather than central to item crafting. It shouldn't be faster to travel from Vesk Prime to Absalom than it is to travel from Vesk Prime to a vesk colony.
>>98776744My group's PF2e campaign has finished and we want to try three another systems before going back.

https://2e.aonprd.com/Spells.aspx?ID=1480>Light can't pass through, so creatures in the area can't see outside. This sentence seems disjointed from the earlier text about interactions with light. Doesn't that mean the Darkness spell's line of sight blocking can't be bypassed by darkvision, requiring counteracting the spell directly to defeat?
>>98782895>Heightened (4th) Even creatures with darkvision (but not greater darkvision) can barely see through the darkness. What do you think this means when applied to the spell cast at 2nd rank.
>>98784801What does that have to do with the quoted function?>creatures in the area can't see outside.
>>98785531>Player Core 433 >Darkvision and Greater Darkvision>A creature with darkvision or greater darkvision can see perfectly well in areas of darkness and dim light, though such vision is in black and white only. Some forms of magical darkness, such as a 4th-rank darkness spell, block normal darkvision. A creature with greater darkvision, however, can see through even these forms of magical darkness. Anyone got any up-to-date resources for Foundry Modules for APs? I want to run Bastion of Blasphemies but can only find the .pdf and not the foundry module.
>>98791189No, you'll have to beg in sharethread until someone dumps it. The free pipeline from paizo to store dried up and our sub piggie who dumped everything went MIA with dead god's hand and secrets of the swarm. The maintainer of the trove stopped giving a fuck after v14 and deleted the old quests and bounties he had after they stopped working right. Even now a few of the modules are outdated like Season of Ghosts.

>>98780377Just means that we can play around with the subsystems to see what sort of changes they introduce. I have found that tackign on the Skill Paragon option allows people to excel at the skill they want, giving them more feats to spend on things that interest them outside that singular skill. Depends on the class, it can give casters and melle types a lot more leeway to play with their feat selections, because takign the skills that augment your casting or fighting styles makes things much more interesting, not to mention given legendary in up to four skill or master in seven or eight.Ancestry Paragon give much more roleplaying leeway, allowing people to focus on noncombat and skill talents that enhance the player's noncombat abilities. Free Archetype gives more combat options, which can seriously change the combat dynamic in a few ways. Doing both gives the players a lot of ways to do things aside from class features and limited skill options.Mythic is overpowered insanity, but also gives players the opportunity to do incredily fun nonsense like become gods, demons, angels, war machines, literally become a magic weapon for someone else to use, living magic that networks power through the whole party, etc. Not to mention mythic rolls mean the impossible is not only achievable but expected at times. I like a game that allows for sideways growth.
>>98795396>MythicI mostly agree with your points, but come on.2e Mythic is woefully undercooked. It has the potential to do quite a lot, but the slow rate of Mythic Points, the obvious gaps in options for casters and non-combat functions, and the system by default still asking for Class Feats really hurts its potential in being the Epic Level fantasy it is trying to be. I don't think you need to be 1e-tier "this is barely functioning" levels of OP for it to be fun, but they could have at LEAST gave spell attack/DC runes while they were making +4 runes....
>>98795415Oh and Mythic Resilience is a bullshit mechanic that robs Mythic fights of their fun.
>>98785531>What does that have to do with the quoted function?I refuse to believe one can ask such a stupid question and not be trolling.
>>98794648I kneel
SF2e Tech Core dropped, does nobody give a shit? I took a look at Mechanic since it was the class I was interested in. Minemancy seems fun.
https://2e.aonsrd.com/feats/2673-chat-helpFor something so goofy, this is really not that bad a feat for a high-Charisma character.
>>98796346Oh, right. Was actually excited for that, just forgot it was the 7th already.I do have a bone to pick with DPS++ Technomancer, least next to ServoShell. Why does ServoShell get to boost their minions with item bonuses, but DPS++ only get a paltry +1 Status? It doesn't even mesh with Short-Circuit Reality, their Advanced Focus Spell (side note: fucked up that Technomancer gets 3 Focus Spells but not Wizard) because the Strike it gives (teleport, then hit a foe that's auto-offguard!) is distinct from the buffed Overclock action. I don't get why they couldn't compress this together. It really doesn't help it is trying to be this weird sniper dude with all the range increment penalty nullification buffs...but you are still a Wizard at the end of the day. Just cast Fireball! I don't get what they wanted to do with DPS++. It felt like 2 designers were fighting over how much a blaster caster this should be.Otherwise, pretty happy with Technomancer. Nice that Starfinder2e is doing good on their full casters.
>>98796496In SF1e my group did a rotating party thing where we all played 3-5 characters. We just made characters whenever we felt like, and subbed them in and out. For me, Technomancer was my favorite class, but I ran it with Drone Technomancy which it doesn't seem to have now. Didn't look at the minibots too in-depth, but it's not the same.
>>98795396the whole problem is that the feats are shit. why would I want subsystems that give me more shit? I want good feats
>>98780377The worst part of the overbalance are class dedications. I hate them so much it's unreal. They killed real multi-classing to sell it back to you with half the features removed. It's fucking awful. I'm switching to Lancer soon, and depending on how it goes I might explore other systems too.
>>98796676nigga 90% the time you don't even get 10% of the features with normal multiclassing. Hell, I would argue a strength of 1e Archetypes was that a lot of them were kitbashing classes together without asking you to sacrifice the actual reason you chose that class to begin with.
>>98796676The class dedications that aren't overnerfed feel like an amazing version of multiclassing though
>>98794648My Hero...>>98791381BTFO....
>>98797728I houseruled that if you already have everything that a multiclass dedication *would* grant you - like if you already have martial weapon proficiency and athletics taking the fighter dedication or if you already have heavy armour taking the champion dedication, then you can skip straight to a 1st-2nd level feat instead.
>>98797728Which ones are good? Most of them just make me sad to read.
>>98798577I've seen that before and I like it a lot. Don't mind sticking to only level 1 feats, either.>>98799998Exemplar, Guardian, Commander, Alchemist, Runesmith, Witch, Necromancer. They give you decent access to key features. If we look at feats beyond the dedication one, then archetypes likes Champion and Rogue look great.
>>98800205I'll toss in Rogue, Thaumaturge, and even Inventor. Main class might be an L, but the multiclass is an easy way for classes like Magus to get good +6 AC armor.
>>98800229Thaumaturge is so anemic... I can't see Glimpse Vulnerability being worth an action past the first few levels.
>>98800359Before Exemplar, it was the easiest way to get free damage on anything. +2 isn't a lot, even for the early game, but it is +2 -- the equivalent of a die size increase. By the time it is doing paltry damage, you can pick up the Initiate benefit of your Implement which is what have real synergy with your core class or playstyle.Like, I find an anemic multiclass to be something like Magus or Monk or Summoner where the dedication is bare minimum, the actual feature you want is horribly crippled, and the feats are really only good for the class itself and not others looking to mix.
>>98795396>living magic that networks power through the whole party, etcthe most insane overpowered nonsense you can imagine for a caster is becoming a living embodiment of cheerleading
>>98801268Some folks need to be the main character then some folks should actually be playing primary casters.
is there a good way to set up an magic item shop? I'm running Abomination Vaults and I have an OC selling magic items in town and I want to find a good way to set up a good item shop with fun items and also maybe a mechanic about it
>>98802775When I ran AV I used the limitation given by the rules wrt town level and items sales to get the players to take a break from speedrunning the vault to go to absalom. That allowed me the chance to plug in quests from Troubles in Otari and set up the second half of the campaign through the Ruby Phoenix Tournament. Allowing players to get EVERYTHING in otari defeats the purpose of the remote locale, no?
>>98802775The simplest way is to just have all common options of the Settlement Level to be avaiable. Toss in an item a level higher and/or uncommon/rare as a tease. Don't overthink it, especially given how magic items in 2e are pretty damn paltry.
I miss 1e adventure paths, imagine 1e AP potential with the new 1 book format......Like look how well Kingmaker2e is doingAnyway, what's y'all favorite AP? Mines Ironfang Invasion even tho it's flawed and book 4 and 5 are skippable
>>98806828I've only played or read a few. But if AV and Hell's Rebels are so highly rated, I have to think there's maybe only a couple of good ones.
Is there an artwork of Archdevil Abrogail? That's pretty much the only thing I want from the book, her cleric spells are pretty nifty too if you can get to rank 8s for quandry (fav weapon is also nice). Ofc everything disregarding how weirdly stupid the entire hellfire arc was.
Is runesmith a microcosm of all the most annoying elements of pf2? Hands, action taxes, choosing between dozens of similar options, traced vs etched runes, range problems, etc etc...all to portray the same concept 5e's rune knight solves with "use rune, apply effects"
>>98683261Does anyone know how to rip the 2D assets from this game? For example, the game's character sheet assets?
So with starfinder tech core out , can someone tell me if the ship combat is still shit or its good now ?
>>98810990It looks to be pretty decent, but it is a different experience than the wargaming ideas you would think about when it comes to ship combat. Focusing on the battlestations and interior ideas and using a line system may make the game feel more abstracted than most are comfortable with. And they don't have options for personal starship combat, but I think you just use vehicle rules and keep to the lines for everyone's sake. It's different, which normally wouldn't mean it is better, but when you are working from rock bottom, it is improvement.>>988068281e, probably Ironfang Invasion myself. Or Carrion Crown.2e, Seasons of Ghosts (I SAW A YOKAI I KNOW! I CLAPPED!) or Bastions of Blasphemies.
>>98806828I really like Jade Regent. The plot hook making an NPC more important is a bit weak but if you either accept Ameiko is a plot device and not a person, or rewrite it a bit to give players better motivation than just happening to be friends with her the rest of the campaign is just awesomeGreat set pieces, great encounters, sense of urgency with enough downtime to still let players have funIronfang is cool too. I think book 4 and 5 being build up to a counter offensive make sense they just dropped the ball in execution
Average party since humans and dwarves are so boring to play.
>>98814271yeah...usually i disallow all freakshit races unless they are strongly present in the region, maybe allowing one or two if the rest of the party is normal and their reason for being there is convincing

If I'm playing pathfinder 1e and have a class ability that let's me use a skill as another skill, do I still need ranks in the original skill to qualify for feats?e.g. if I have an ability that let's me use perform as heal and a feat requires 5 ranks of heal, do I still need 5 ranks of heal to qualify for it or does 5 ranks of perform work?
>>98820562What's the specific language used in the feat?
>>98809476Yeah, they finally gave her some art in Infernal Inheritance. Not sure why she didn't get art in Hell's Destiny.
>>98820584>Prerequisite(s): Heal 1 rank, Knowledge (planes) 1 rank. That's the requirements, it's the healing hands conduit feat
>>98820985Imagine wearing a dress that gropes you.
>>98821034Ok, what's the exact text of the class ability?
>>98820562Depends on wording. For example Bard's Versatile Performance would not usually work for it.
>>98820985>check for mini>no miniRioting
>>98691349Use the Skill Paragon option. That take out an entire slew of feat taxes.
>>98773020....you do realize that the Untamed Druid is literally the shifter class, right?
>>98821820No. From the get-go, a person/furry that wants to only do wildshape is NOT a fan of full Druid chassis. A Fighter w/ Wizard levels does not replace the need for Eldritch Knight as a prestiege/archetype or Magus as a class.A Shifter fan does not want to be a Druid. They want to be a Shifter.
>>98821835Then they're better off refluffing a monk, using only the animal base styles as their choices of attacks and using Nature and Survival as their main skills.Take Druid Dedication, then next level for archetype take Untamed Order and select Untamed Shift rather than Untamed Shape. shifter powers and attacks with fighter level combat.
>>98821357So if it says "you may use your skill bonus in place of other skill bonus" it wouldn't work and I'd still need ranks? What about stuff like the part of versatile performance that says>When substituting in this way, the bard uses his total Perform skill bonus, including class skill bonus, in place of its associated skill’s bonus, whether or not he has ranks in that skill or if it is a class skill.
>>98821891The core idea of a class is that they can go further than just the bare minimum. Whether 1e or 2e, a class provides more a ground floor for customization than asking the player to awkwardly shoehorn their fantasy around it. I think it is fair to ask for a class that focuses itself around this idea moreso than ask the players to put the legwork for such, at the sacrifice of other build customization ideas.Very least, a Class Archetype for Druid or Monk or Summoner would be reasonable to have if you don't want to do all the work making all the class feats.
>>98821902Problem with that line is that it speaks about Bonus. You need Skill Ranks to qualify for things, which is a separate thing from Bonus.
