What value can 500 points of deathwatch bring to a list that can't be covered by 500 points of whatever else?
And what would 500 points even net you at this point?
And why does every DW kill team have to have all its dudes be first or second founding twits? Why can't there be cursed founding mfs in the mix?

Trouble deciding on this Iyanden banshee color scheme. The dark blue will be highlighted much lighter and the yellows and Wraithbone will be a more saturated and warmer, eventually. Under armour will be black, leather will be dark brown/black. Swords probably a classic teal/cyan.

Also Ty to the anon who recommended the Vallejo European mud for basing, looks good, but it was out of stock at the lgs...

Yes and no. there’s lots of reasons, but the main one for me is they just have an insane amount of freedom for what you can have them be, and this comes from tone, gimmicks, and power scaling.
for the tone, there’s a sliding scale for how serious or silly they can be, so you’re completely allowed to have them be soulless 6’4 rape apes that mercilessly butcher everyone and love to torture any survivors, or you can have be goofy little guys getting up to looney toons tier hijinks, or you can have a little in between where they’re serious and murderous, but just a little slow and like to have fun a lot which adds to their humor.
then there’s the klans which give you a lot of gimmicks to choose from like barbarian hordes, dreadmobs, pirates, cyborgs, ect.
there’s another set of gimmicks for blood axes who like to larp as other militaries which is cool, and its another sliding scale between how well they perform at larping. it can be just giving them makeshift medals and titles, and calling it a day, or it can be outright military organization and ranks with proper uniforms.
finally there’s powerscaling where you’re able to justify them in any warzone. a big problem for some armies is that sometimes it doesn’t make sense for certain matchups or them to be in a certain place. GSC, Imperial Agents, Custodes, and even Marines come to mind for this. this isn’t really a problem for orks because they’re fucking everywhere, and they also are on yet another sliding scale where their depiction could be either jobber hordes that suffer insane causalities frequently even by a simple company of guardsmen, or outright able to go toe-to-toe with a company of space marines.

War Organ is better because it has all the strats for free

I'd avoid pure white except for select final highlighting. It has bad coverage compared to any mixture and makes fixing mistakes much harder. Pick a dark grey or a greyish color of your choice as your basecoat, then spray a couple lighter colors from increasingly vertical angle. Recess shade the armor and paint whatever highlights you want with the lightest color you sprayed, which should be an off white. Then push a couple select highlights up with pure white on the helmet for example.

The point is that these sorts of third party sites/tools have existed for ages now and they always find some legal safe zone to operate in where whatever games company can't touch them. No matter if (and it is still an if, no matter how "inevitable" you doompost about it being) GW tries to crack down on them in the future, third party list builders and shit will persevere. It's also just a future problem so not worth getting your knickers in a knot over now.

My minis have no name....just a number...yes anon, only when they have gone through hell and come back with a Space Wolf's blood head on their base do they become more than a number.
>>
>>98685648
Yeah, you have an airbrush so might as well take advantage of it and get some sweet shading. The darker your basecoat the more the angles and colors matter, so if you're starting very dark you probably want to spray the highlights from lower angles otherwise the armor might not read white.
Please don't just go with a greyscale for the paints too, that's so boring. You can go surprisingly dark and colorful with the basecoat and recess shade and still have the armor read white as long as the upward facing surfaces are sufficiently bright. Play around with a squad of models to figure out a recipe you like that's yours.

>Prussians
Yes
I'll just ctrl-v my post from a few threads ago.

Every time they're mentioned in a codex it's German stereotypes, WW1 Germany allegories or a PopHis understanding of the 19th century Prussian/German military.
>The rule of the Tetrarchs was harsh, autocratic and above all absolute, a necessity due to planet's scarce and strictly-rationed resources (10th codex, WW1 Germany)
>Iron Guard are named and renowned for their iron resolve and their dour and unforgiving natures (10th codex, German stereotype)
>Training consists of endless repetition (10th codex, PopHis Prussia)
>A Mordian Iron Guard regiment in battle is a solid wall of brightly-uniformed, perfectly-formed soldiers who cut through the enemy's ranks with precisely-timed volleys of fire behind a hedge of polished bayonets (5th codex, PopHis Prussia but I'd give it to most "martial tradition" stereotypes as well, even the British Army)
>Besides their preference for infantry, the Mordians also are renowned for precise artillery (10th codex, WW1 Germany)
Their old sculpts have Aquilas styled after Reichsadlers, and the old commanders' hats have Imperialis markings styled after the Totenkopf (which was used by Prussian soldiers since Frederick the Great and only fell out of favor after the SS used it).

The inspirations are *very* one-note with the Mordians. Euros don't really think about the USMC unless in the context of WW2, especially back in the 80s/90s when the Mordians came about.
>>

>introduced to the setting as uncorruptable sweet babby race
>best shooting on tabletop so they either sweep you at range or you get into melee and smash them
>mechs sell well so GW focuses on that and churns out more, never beating the weeb allegations
And still to this day people argue about if tau are the "good guys" (they're not lmao, ethereals/Greater Good are just as dark as the rest of the setting)

SoB started as metal album cover BDSM nuns, don't be surprised that that's what you get.
The stereotypical religious fanaticism was added on afterwards to justify the BDSM nuns being included in the setting.

You also don't have to play the tortured heretics if you don't want to, you can just play the album cover nuns; I don't and I do just fine against things that aren't skewed to fuck (although some Mortifiers would be very helpful at times).

Imperial agents should get beastman and stormtrooper units. Also bring back jokaeros, and crusaders, and let them use predators and razorbacks (you wouldn't even have to upscale the models). Also they should get special servitor units with heavy weapons.

Yeah. His rules are whatever character, but his name is Bob and he's from your chapter. People do it all the time, and I do it with marines and sob. pretty normal.

I also have a couple characters painted up in another chapter's colors and just use their rules when I feel like it. Just be careful to not mix chapters when you do it that way since you can't include two divergent chapters at once in the same army. (for example my army is painted ultramarines but I have Caanok Var I use often).

It really is weird how inquisitorial storm troopers have been in the fluff for well over 20 years now yet not only did the inquisitor specific "army" not get them, they were stuck with an exclusively short range battleline.
>>
>>98685957
>didn't actually clarify well
"Started as" implies their VERY FIRST presence, before they were even put to paper, when they were just an idea in the head of whichever author spit-balled it out to the others first. Not when they were introduced to the game as a playable faction. If that's what I meant, I'd have said it, such as in a phrase like "started in the tabletop as" to differentiate.

The word "start" has a clear definition that *should* have expressed my intent well enough. Not trying to start an argument, are you ESL?

Did you prime? If not, the paint isn't adhering very well because of the lack of surface area from the primer. If you didn't prime enough, same thing. If you put too much on, it'll chip off in the other extreme because primer doesn't bond to itself very well.
Otherwise, go buy a matte clearcoat varnish and use that on the models after painting. You can find ones specifically made for models like this that are purpose-built for this so you don't have to settle for rattlecan ones you'd find at hardware stores.
Acrylic resins (that acrylic paint are made with) are very fragile on their own, the varnish gives a protective layer.

I never got why weapons that clearly had their own power supply were always so restricted. If Dark Angels could slap a plasma cannon on a terminator how hard could a multi melta be?
Anyway the answer is that Yes chapters could do stuff like that. It would be on an individual basis and probably at the veteran's own request as no techmarine would fuck with a holy dreadnought as if it were a project car.
>>
>>98686145
The imperium often flat out doesnt understand what they're really working with so 'just changing' the weapon mounts if you don't fully understand what happens when you do that isn't very smart.

That said, do whatever you think is cool. I think the 'naught you posted doesn't fit the aesthics of the imperium, though.

>>
>>98686145
>Yeah but it's not like changing a weapon mounting is fucking with the life support or anything,
One of the reasons it is so time consuming and costly to put a new missile on a modern fighter jet is that most of them run their software as one monolithic block of code. This means that if you fuck with any part of it, like adding in the stuff needed to recognise and work with a new Sidewinder variant for example, you have to re-validate all the flight control bits of it too.
Now look at technology in the Imperium. The manual rotted away ten thousand years ago, the last guy who had an actual idea how shit works died eight thousand years ago, there might be a full general AI controlling a headlight and a rack of vacuum tubes running the target recognition software, there are actual machine spirits in stuff, chaos will happily invade if you happen to wire things up in the shape of a rune that's a different shape today than it was yesterday and everyone simply does what works with religious fervor because the by far most liekly outcome of anyone fucking around with anything is that the entire thing will break which is a bummer when everyone's continued survival hinges on it not breaking.
So no, you don't just swap out guns, because neither the gun's circuitry nor the gun control circuitry is properly protected against the other side sending a few volts too many, you don't know what volts are, and the only guy who can repair either if a fuze pops is a hermit living fifty kiloparsecs away on a world no other human being has visited in the last four centuries.

>>98686118
Kind of a a pain to navigate.
Doesn't seem to have any other game listbuilding.
Unintuitive options. I couldn't just add all of the Plague Marine options without adding extra bolter marines first for it to replace. At least on new recruit I just add however many of each weapon I want and then adjust the bolters as needed. It'll denote an error if my rations are incorrect.
PDF export options create documents with twice the pages and doesn't allow me to collapse identical units or rearrange them.

I wouldn't bother with it as it exists today.
>>
>>98686167
At the same time there's thousands of variants of things due to ten thousand years of a million locations trying to keep stuff working or making small modifications for whatever reason. What we have in the game is but a fraction of the arsenal used by the Imperium. They used to put more emphasis this in the past, but these days GW is creatively bankrupt and can only have art and mentions of models they sell.

Yeah painting white is sort of a bitch, i would not suggest it unless you know what youre getting into already. Its really easy for it to look either too grimy (in a bad way) or too dusty. What is GWs obsession with the detection range rules this codex?
What went on in their test games to think it's usable at all?
Stop trying to make detection range relevant, it's never going to be. People have already solved the hidden rule and deemed it irrelevant.

This is literally just not how the game is actually played
Infiltrators basically are a unit with no ability rn.

I'm confused about how the new aggressor boltstorm/fragstorm loadout works outside of close quarters/pistol range.

rules as written you pick between:
>Close quarters
>Any other type (meaning either "regular" or "snap")

If you picked the former you get to use guns with close quarters keyword
If the latter, you have to pick ONE OF either close quarters or all other guns

The way everyone has always interpreted the pistol/close-quarters rule is that you EITHER use pistol profiles OR all non-pistol profiles. You can't shoot both.
So if a unit has any weapon besides pistols, you'd always use that.
You'd only ever use pistols if that's the only ranged weapon a unit has (bladeguard etc.) since it doesn't disable any other option, or if a unit got into melee range in which case they can use only the pistol/close quarter profile.

But if you follow that interpretation boltstorm becomes absolute ass since it would mean you can't use both the gun and grenade components of the loadout since one of them has close-quarters and just like the pistol rule, you'd have to choose to either use it or the non pistol component.

The more generous ways to interpret the rule would be that you get to pick if you want to use close quarters shooting or not, but that's not how it worked in any game i've ever played in 10th ed. Not in lgs' nor in gw events. And they have been explicit that close quarters in 11th is intended to be identical to pistol rules in 10th in all respects.

Don't paint with white would be my advice. You can get a great looking "white" scheme using paints like AK's warm grey (helmets) or intermediate blue (shoulders and stuff) and just doing a few highlights on top, never getting to actual white (which should be saved for bright lights anyway). White stuff in an environment isn't going to be pure white to the eye. Making it read as white is about contrast with the rest of your scheme.

He's right, the only use of titans in games should be as elaborate scenery/objectives whose interaction with the armies and other titans should be a matter of the scenario's narrative rules, rather than a statline that the players use to blast the thing turn one, or have it blast the other army turn one, with nothing in-between.

Also because shit like superheavies, artilleries and flyers should be imagined as shooting at things outside of the table just as well if not more than as interacting with their most immediate surroundings.

Got my first full 2k point game of 11th in today. Been playing 1k games exclusively before this. My CSM (recon) vs my buddy's Custodes (purge). Things went well for me first with a massive 25 point swing on my turn 2, but I made some absolutely massive errors in positioning and attack order for my fight phase that let him interrupt and basically completely wipe out my infantry between my fight phase and his subsequent turn. From there, even with my knight desecrator popping a vehicle and then some a turn, I just couldn't stop him from wiping me out and taking the entire board, so I ended up conceding on turn 4. Overall was a good game, valuable lessons learned, you'd think I'd stop charging into custodes but I'm a fucking retard.

We also both made the critical error of choosing to use the smaller recommended game size tables at the LGS instead of the older 6x4 tables in the other room. The smaller boards are fucking terrible and I hate them.
>>
>>98686769

>>98686769
You always think you can take Custodes on your charge... then they survive and wipe you. Walk away, not towards them. They're slow, can't shoot for shit and need to focus objectives rather than chasing you down because of low body count.

The price is retarded probably because there's a bunch of characters or maybe due to perceived scarcity of the models.

Ultramarines were never wanked to the degree that they are now.
They're supposed to be default basic space marine faction but at the same time they get unique special units that are equal to or better than what BA/DA/SW etc get.
The pinnacle was when they changed oath of moment to give +1 to wound to codex-compliant chapters and ultramarines still benefitted from it despite having arguably the most powerful special units out of all the chapters.

It's time to finish my sisters vehicle collection. I need the maximun amount of everything. I already have a 3 Castigators. I only have 2 exorcists (one metal and one new) so I need to hunt down the forgeworld one to have 3 exorcist and have all 3 different versions of the exorcist.

I have 2 Immolators one of the MK1 metal one and the older plastic one. But you can run 8 Immos if you ally 2 from IA so with these I will get 1 more metal and older plastic one. And two forgeworld and two new ones. And then finally the Rhino. I have Mk1 Rhino, bog standard Rhino and a Deimos one. I will need to get the Rhino with the forgeworld upgrade kit, the new Sisters Rhino and also the Immolator based Rhino with the bubble stormbolter turret. Finished this collection will look like this:

3 Castigators
3 Exorcists: 1 new one, 1 metal one and 1 forgeworld one
8 Immolators: 2 Mk1 metals, 2 Forgeworlds, 2 older plastics and 2 new ones
6 Rhinos: Mk1, Deimos, Standard MK2, MK2 with Sisters Forgeworld upgrades, MK2 with sisters bubble turret and new sisters one

Yeah the Repressor as well. I do have the Repressor upgrade kit already though the seller scammed me and gave me a recast while they advertised it was authentic forgeworld one. I haven't partially built it because that recast smells so fucking toxic. Honestly with forgeworld ones I will just buy recasts because 99% of people who sell OOP forgeworld stuff are just trying to pass recasts as authentic anyway. Finding an actual forgeworld with those is basically impossible.

Maybe one day I will my collection here but 30% of it is still unpainted.

Incursors seem really good now. Better guns (+1S, AP-1), better melee (+1S), their targetting ability gives reroll 1s to hit instead of +1 to hit roll and they don't have to shoot at the unit to provide it so they can stay hidden or choose a different target. Haywire mine is a little worse because they can't be used in any phase, only your own shooting, but has slightly longer range. Same effect.

If they're under 100 points I'll be taking 2x5 or 3x5 to feed rerolls to hellblasters, eliminators and the repex.

Alright what should I do. I bought an ebay lot because it was cheap but the issue is that these models are pro painted level. Like they are extremely well painted but they aren't painted in the same colors as rest of my army. And there's zero chance that I can paint anything close to this level.

>You cannot add useless bells and whistles since that is modifying the weapon from the original STC.
Entirely depends on the mechanicus personel present and entirely depends on the modifications being done.
Some of them are more retarded about it than others.
Hell, the whole "innovation is bad, mkay?" that the higher echelons espouse is constantly being broken by the leading techpriests themselves anyway. It's very much "rules for thee, not for me" with them.
If it was up to the mechanicus they wouldn't even let anyone else have any technology because they think everyone else is "nonbeliever who deserves none".
Only reason why mechanicus even work the Imperium still is purely out of convenience, the admech is more closer to a sister empire that holds a lot of autonomy and exists within the imperium itself.

weapons in the new marine codex are all over the place and inconsistent as fuck. Ironically they're currently talking about how they don't make back their own cost in 3.0.
>>
>deathworld forest is cool terrain
>someone was selling it for 140 bucks
>but someone else was selling Eldritch Ruins for less
>did not realize until yesterday that GW for some reason sold DWF as basically a Battleforce for terrain, and that Eldritch ruins is different because it's missing stuff like the shardwrack spines
Shit

Hey guys I recently became interested in Primarchs from Games Workshop’s titular flagship title Warhammer 40k
I know this is the Warhammer 40k general thread so I came in to ask about peoples’ opinions on Primarchs!
Who’s your favorite?
Mine you ask?
Well, heh, let’s just say you don’t get a nickname like “The Lion” just from being an average fella!
