You know I always see the "would renegade marines join the tau" but I feel like ending up as mercs in commorragh would make more sense if marines were going to shack up with xenos. Deldar would have little issue hiring them since they hire many different xenos(and they've worked with marines before), would get consistent work and access to good ftl travel, and have a big enough stick you could probably survive.

Even renegade marines are xenophobic as fuck. They'll never join a xeno faction. That hate is put into them since they're neophytes. Sometimes even opposed marine factions use their common hate of xenos to bond with each other.

At best we have examples of CSM like the Red Corsairs using xeno warriors as mercenaries or allies of convenience.

I can get base paint from the local hardware stores but there's not really anything modeling I can find locally, it's all artist paint, so I gotta order and I'm gonna snag a couple units before any price hike on the 21st anyways so does anyone have strong feelings about Vallejo and Two Thin Coats? Those are my options because I'm aiming for dropper bottles. There's also Army Painter I can go with which seem popular as a lot of their shades are sold out.

Maybe for barebones 3rd edition. It falls apart once you need to remember which unit has certain weapons and wargear, or having to keep in mind rules that give modifiers.

The new datasheets are much more practical for actual games, even if they remove the lego-like allure of list building and unit design.

Chaos marines already basically spread their ass for daemons which are basically just interdimensional aliens anyway.

No because this is a quick stat reference. The wargear is in the armoury and who gets what wargear is in your list. Currently to reference stats you need a dozen datasheets because there's no quick reference like this and stats are inconsistent as fuck.

Nope, having everything you need about an unit in a single card > having to flip pages of a book or two back and forth.

That's unironically something new editions do better than old ones. The problem is that they subvert it later with all the bullshit extra layers of rules (detachment bloat nowadays, special rules bloat back then)

The reference sheets didn't tell you the unit's wargear or their special rules, if any. You had to go to open your codex if you or your opponent didn't remember them. Even worse if the codex just referenced wargear and rules from other book (common issue with marines)

Modern datasheets are just modernized 2nd edition datafaxes, btw. They're much better for playing. Their only real issue is obtaining them, and how fast they become obsolete.

It affects sales already, I'm being pedantic, but if you mean profit, then that's gonna take some time to happen.

Why? Businesses have figured out that you can simply milk the common retard who has no standards (money through numbers) and the mentally ill retard /addict who has spending issues (money through constant purchases)

The common retard can still be coaxed into paying more as long as you don't disrespect him and he has other people to push him to do those few large expenses. The addict will be milked to death.

If you hear people complaining about the prices, you've already hit the stress point, but that doesn't mean it's gonna break.
>>
>>98698008
"Thin your paints" is a tired meme, don't worry about it. A lot of paints are plenty thin enough from the bottle, and just mixing in a little water to others while you charge you brush is usually fine. Thinner is for tryhards or youtubers who get sent stuff for free.

Most people say "thin your paints" when they see models painted sloppily (often unavoidable when a complete beginner) or with too much paint slapped on (after charging your brush dab it on a piece of paper to remove some of the excess, that way you're less likely to flood the model with thick or thin paint). More important than thinning is patience - one coat isn't going to fully cover most of the time, the answer isn't more paint, but letting the layer dry and coming back to that spot in 2 minutes for another coat. Also rinse and recharge your brush pretty often. If paint isn't coming off the brush smoothly the solution is usually to recharge not add more thinner/water.
>>
>>98698090
Ideally you could buy the exact axe you want directly, but I don't mind the old way of buying a specific sgt model, or even buying vets to use as sgts.
Would be cool if all options were in the box, especially since for more money you get 1 less sprue.

They really should have gone further with the customization. They made the greeves and shoulder pads for the whole squad but you got jack shit to pick from.
If they added some proper backpack variation and some bolt carbines along the bolt rifle it'd already have been an improvement.
Chests are still not swappable, and some of the variation are just "nothing". Intercessors still get mogged by the tactical squad kit 10 years later, this is stupid. Maybe in 10 years we'll get back to 2005 levels.

Custodes would be more interesting if all of them would have been female from the start.
Otherwise they are kinda dull.
>>
>>98698205
They did lose their sticky objective AND double-shooting rules (their new profile looks impressive at first glance, but it's actually worse than what they had before in many cases), and their leader options are a bit iffy with lieutenants getting markedly worse. So they're not as good in either of their old roles, which was objective sitters (where sticky was a crucial rule) or just throwing out shittons of shots with sus/lethal and full hit re-rolls, which they just really can't do any more because there are no full hit re-rolls and actually getting sus/lethal against all targets is trickier.
>>
I'm surprised the codex is still in stock, I didn't expect marine piggies and scalpers to leave them be

Could be because it hasn't gone up in the US tho
>>

My list has gone up 100 points. I've had worse dataslates that this codex. Infiltrators a lot cheaper (for a much worse unit), Terminators significantly more expensive (for a much more powerful one). Most units up 5-10 points, characters generally cheaper.

I'll probably swap infiltrators for max incursors, drop a couple of redundant characters (judiciar) and some sternguard and have some points to spend on enhancements. Not a massive change, army will look almost identical on the table.

Nowadays, most paint schemes for Nurgle Daemons use white basecoat, followed with green, yellowish brown or creme speed paint and drybrush/highlights.
Do you guys have any idea how to paint them quickly but with black base?
I was thinking about drybrushing them extensively with white first and achieve a darker tone this way but I started to wonder if washing them with a dark wash and then simply follow with purple drybrush wouldn't give interesting results as well.

Has anyone ever actually been doxxed from posting models here? I've only seen it happen once and I've been posting here for over a decade. The only time I've seen it happen is the ben schizo, but that was a case of genuine mental illness. Outside of that, the mutant comes close, but that's entirely self-inflicted because he won't fucking leave and posts way too much personal identifying information constantly, in true lolcow fashion. Basically just don't be mentally ill I guess.

Depends on how good you are at painting. If you want to add the shade around to flames to show a light source then these will be utterly awful.

Freehanding flames isn't too hard, give it a try you'll be suprised.
>>
>>98698668
You sure it's them, might just be stolen pics reposted.
>>
>>98698678
Yeah you could be right, I did see the exact same image on the LGS discord around the same time so it's a strong possibility.
>>
>>98698666
Because they just want to complain. They don't actually care about firstborn, they just hate primaris.
>>
>>98698661
Yes. It's easy to find the same models posted on reddit, B&C, dakka, and FB. And then you have them.
You're very new and naive if you think otherwise.
Fortunatelly the best modelposters are actually pretty chill, unlike the attention whores and discord trannies shitposting about it all the time.
>>
>>98698655
I kinda hate weapons with flame effects stuck on em for that exact reason. I'd rather just stick with the tried and true wash gradient heat-distressed metal effect to show that my flamer regularly spits metal than have to deal with some chunky flames sticking out of it.

Partially because I'm a shitter and partially because I think the flames look kinda dopey more often than not.
>>

Wet your brush tip
A REAL tip would be that you should do a test model first to see how badly you fuck up so you can steadily improve the subsequent models, the mistake I see "first time here" posters make is they shittily paint 10 models and then are like "fug :D". It's easier to fix problems when only one model looks like shit, instead of 10.

Also if there's a gw nearby maybe go there and ask for one of those free space marine test models.

>>98698826

Yeah it's dumb. My problem with the new SM codex is that it might (I'm not even sure on that) be less lethal to other elite armies, it certainly is MUCH more lethal to T4/T3 armies. Armies with 15+ units didn't care so much about oath, since only one unit could be targeted at a time usually, and it's not like Marines needed Oath to kill T3 stuff anyways. With the datasheets getting way better and Marines getting only 5-10pts increases it really blows for T3/T4 army enjoyers.

So why did Ork points go up more than Space Marine points did?
I thought they said they wanted to make Space Marines more elite. Once codex creep sets in they're going to have to start cutting marine points and they're just going to get less and less elite over the course of the edition like usual. Starting with already low points is going to literally turn them into a horde army.
>>

Intercessors but with more old armour pieces/helmets, Vanguard Veterans which is a firstborn unit, the bikers that already existed since 9th, Land Speeder instead of more Stormspeeders. When is the last time GW even invented a new Nounverbinator with Cawl-pattern Stormsynonym autocarbines? I think Primaris are done for.

You wokies lie about literally everything and are never convincing when you post this obvious cope. You lost lmao. We successfully bullied GW into canceling female marines, into no longer even showing female heads on any of their Custodes models during the Custodes previews and releases, and into working on new Armageddon Steel Legion (the actual Guard Regiment based on Nazi Germans, despite historylets thinking it's Krieg), and as soon as this new Age of Sigmar dwarf army flops super hard it's going to be the deathblow of woke model releases. The future is bright and far right.

That "kit" was just a 40k version of it.

Female marines are 100% in the works and being revealed at the end of the edition and they will be taking ques from female stormcast, ie. wear same style marine armor but they are slimmer and have an obvious boob plate/boob slope.
Source?
I have seen them.

Someone brought it up last thread, but I didn’t see it till a few minutes ago while catching up, but The Red Terror is fucked. They keep releasing new Kill Teams on schedule but aren’t giving us the solo Red Terror model because the mold has a critical design failure.
Also since GW likes to never admit failures or mistakes publicly, they will never admit it, or give us an ETA on a new mold and a new line of Red Terrors.
Basically this sprue doesn’t have proper outflow or something, and it’s having trouble pressurizing the section where part 14 is, so you’re having an incomplete fill on this little arm with a gross texture and soft plastic.
>>
>>98699198
Primaris are too pure to ever fall to chaos don't you know
>>
>>98699199
They have marine souls though, any dead marine can potentially be manifested as a LOTD legonarie, so naturally can slain Primaris.
>>
>>98699204
I genuinely wouldn't care about it if I got the sprue like this.
>>
>>98699204
I was about to call you a schizo and remind everyone that the Red Terror release is probably just being saved for the Tyranid Codex but last line + pic, you must be onto something if this is a repeated problem showing up across many of the kits. They will fix it eventually though.
>>
>>98699146
>why GW wants them gone for SM armies
-Money by forcing marinefags to buy new tanks
-Social engineering push away from SoB as just "female marines" by giving marines a new product line to have an entirely different on-table army instead of just the infantry
-Further separation of armies into tiers and design languages from the on-field units; Guard at the bottom, SoB in the middle, Marines at the top (we don't talk about Custodes)

That's about all I can drum up in the minute or so I thought about it waiting for my captcha.
>>
>>98699209
yeah but there were space marines that fell to chaos between the heresy and primaris.
A lot of space marines fall to chaos and become CSMs.
>>

Who? And what lie?
None of the heads are female, GW never said they were in anything would've been. And none of them look like female heads either, they are all male heads. You are just jumping at shadows seeing things what you want to see because you have a confirmation bias.
>We successfully bullied GW into
Into doing nothing. Female custodes being revealed literally did nothing to GW only people who got their panties in a twist over it was twitter. Which doesn't matter because twitter gets its panties in a twist over everything.
>into working on new Armageddon Steel Legion
Anon, those steel legion models have been works for years based on the fact they have sketches at all.
Only reason why GW used cadians and krieg in the trailer is because they are lazy and cheap as fuck and they already had cadians and krieg mdoels made for 3D animation videos.
They are not gonna bother making steel legion dudes for some 1 minute trailer that will never be reused again anyway.

You're crying so badly at the keyboard you can't even type a coherent sentence lol. Yeah no shit GW never said they were female, because the decision to cancel their reveal as female space marines was made before they showed us those sprues.
>>
>>98699215
From what I heard it’s like most of them. A lot of people just assembled, primed, and didn’t notice it, or thought they spilled plastic cement on it until people started talking.
They need to redesign and c&c a new mold so it doesn’t happen again. It could be as simple as rearranging the parts on the sprue, or there could be some bizarre torrential effect happening in that part that makes them need to go back to cad and resculpt it.
>>
>>98698550
You can drybrush green from purple. You can even go all purple with white zenithals and apply green contrast and it will give nice green recesses because of how green and purple interact.

They're traditionalist orks in the sense that they like hunting, and in particular hunting big game, instead of having any sort of battle tactics or enjoyment in fighting soldiers.
They prefer steeds to bikes and vehicles and melee to ranged, but will still use ranged weapons with no less hypocrisy than a hunter using a rifle.
By "big game" they mean both monstrous creatures AND big tanks and mechanical walkers.
They have a larger percentage of prosthetics because hunting monsters means getting your limbs bitten off more often, apparently.

It literally does not, that's historical revisionism from modern chaosfags who didn't even work at GW when Priestley did. Even the image you posted shows that Realm of Chaos was originally planned for Fantasy only, it was expanded to add 40k content after the huge success of Rogue Trader, and it was not definitional to the setting in any way, shape, or form, because all of the concepts that defined the setting existed in the Rogue Trader original rulebook that had zero Chaos in it.

Ignoring the fact that they're obviously going to sell other factions as DLC down the line because money, the game wouldn't be out for another 5 years. There's a reason why every good RTS ever released only ever launched with 2-4 races.

We've been getting raided for a long time, no question about that, but 'post models' is just the lowest-hanging 'own' the modern /40kg/-goer has and is NOT worth a melty of this caliber. Even if you chomp at their bit they'll just talk shit or deride whatever opinion set them off anyway.

No sane adult with a job gives 4chan, much less /tg/, the time of day at all. Even so, there's always plausible deniability that they're not actually your dudes. I've posted nothing but rehashed photos from faction Discords in this place to shit on idiots and will keep doing so until it becomes impossible. Not once did I get exposed for it so far nor has anyone whose pics I stole been falsely ousted as far as I know.

Why are we counting the imperials and chaos together here? GW Sells their armies in 4 brackets.

>Space marines.
>imperial armies.
>chaos armies.
>Xeno armies.

This data suggests that Xenos in aggregate are the most popular "GA" Style grouping, presumably because they have the most diverse range of aesthetics and as such appeal to the widest base. I could believe it too when I consider how anemic releases are for the cult legions.

Like, as an example, TS were released in 7th edition same as GSC. In the time since release tho GSC have gotten an entire sculpted second wave while all TS got were AOS hand me downs, a few pity heroes and a robot.

In fact, none of the cult legions have gotten anything better than a single pity model per edition since their release with the exception of Khorne Boys who also got a kill team. A cultist kill team lmao.
>>
>>98699717
How old is this? These numbers are way off current.
>>
>>98699707
>Then the first HH game was released the next year.
Which didn't even have real Chaos, it was just Imperium vs Imperium and they created the Horus Heresy lore as justification for the civil war so they could put one set of models in the box and have you fight mirror matches with them. Then that game was almost immediately replaced with a 40k version adding Orks and Eldar.
>>
>>98699755
All marines together, loyalist or traitor are still less popular than all xenos. Xenos are apparently 3% off from being half the player base. Almost 1/2 of all players own at least one xeno army.
>>

i was testing on tts the expansion of the banana shitters i have built at 1k already on host+moritoi,
1 of each dreadnought (telemon with double storm cannons),
2 squads of guard,
witch seekers,
3 allarus with axes
champ and captain,
grav tank but without blaze cannons since i couldn't fit it in
6 ventari with lances

played vs magnus, brick of termies, forgefiend, 2 rubric squads with leaders where applicable, tzaangors and enlightened with the magic field detachment, take and hold mirror

map was search and destroy

ventari failed a charge and chudded most of the time, allarus survived long enough to finish off forgefiend after it got shot a bit by the grav tank. Felt like moritoi is kinda shit on mixed dreads and that I should've just went with solar as dreads not being able to charge on advance caught them out of position and they ofc also failed their charges and they couldn't stand the combo spam. Rapid fire 6 on storm cannons not as impactful as i thought - i get the same number of shots with devs on with volkite ironjacks but no cp and they can actually fucking hide in terrain but maybe that's because i built with expectation of not having to always be fighting marines. Missions also kinda rough and was kited by the action monkey tzaangors. The tank did kinda ok even if positioning it was hell even when flying due to density and OP was more experienced and actually did use terrain zones better than me to deny shots.

don't really wanna think anymore about the game and just kinda build and paint my taldarim immortal instead if im not too tired for that

There is really no need, we're measuring how many people own enough models of a faction to be considered an army.

Honestly the new method of marine structure has probably hurt GW's movement of marines more than it has helped, I remember back in 6th the SW had almost no models in common with codex compliant marines. The only times a space wolf player bought Compliant marine kits was to convert a space wolf equiv that either didn't have a dedicated kit or did have one that sucked.

These days however space wolves are just a colour scheme, you can easily build a "space wolf" army that can also be played as any other space marine army.

The Eldar are the closest equiv to what marines can do but their ranges share very little in common, only Harlequins and Corsairs are cross compatible and they're only in the CWE book because there is no "eldar agents" book.

>>
>>98699931
Yeah but the cost-effectiveness ratio is so disproportionate that it's ridiculous.
For example custodes getting yeeted in that one story with the Norn Emissary is funny because some if not all of those lost Custards may have been around since the unification wars. They are autistically hand-crafted down to the microscopic level, countless aspirants dying in the process, and then having all the humanity removed out of them to become the perfect soldier.
Thousands of years later they get carved in half by a bug that was born a few weeks ago.
Literally every single time a custodes dies, it's the Imperial equivalent of slipping on a banana peel and falling down twelve flights of stairs.
>>
>>98699968
I try to explain this to people and they don't get it. Logistics wins wars. This is why Tyranids are guaranteed to win in the long run. One of their big bugs slaughters half a dozen Custodes in a matter of seconds and they can shit out 5 million more of those giant monsters every time they eat a planet.

buy high grit (3000+) sandpaper for smoothing down sprue gates and mold lines
when sanding down models apply light pressure and do fast passes over, this will catch onto the mold lines sticking out while leaving the rest untouched (kind of like drybrushing)
the exacto knife is useful but if you have bad control you will fuck up your models (depending on where and how bad you can maybe get away with it looking like battle damage)
both superglue (cyanoacrylate) and plastic glue have their uses, use CA for hidden internal connections & gluing to base and plastic glue for piecea that need to be flush
buy a set of shitty cheap brushes. you need shitty brushes for transferring paint from pots to your palette (not a problem if you bought dropper bottle paints), drybrushing, and technical paints
>>
>>98699977
Not really
biomass acquired - biomass expended = strategic gain or loss
They can still lose more biomass than they gain in any given engagement
And there are several terrible matchups for them in this regard like necrons or chaos which are not biological in nature at all
>>
>>98699890
NTA but guard suffers from the same "expensive to play" issue that GSC does

The current "good units" list being far removed from the mental image of guard doesn't help. GW really needs to consider what each army is SUPPOSED to be when making up rules, but that requires thinking about 2nd-order effects and how things interact with each other beyond lorewank so they won't.
>>
>>98699996
Tyranids lose 0 biomass once they actually win on the planet, unless it gets Exterminatus'd or they're fighting Necrons as you mentioned. Dead Tyranids are just reabsorbed. The whole biosphere gets eaten. Even burning them has no effect, every molecule of ash and smoke is still getting fixed back into the soil or in the atmosphere when they absorb it all. Nothing is lost.
>>
>>98699977
Tyranid logistics are nonsense.
They should be eating giant gas planets and space rocks instead of the handwavey muh biomass technobabble.
>>
>>98700011
No because gas giants and space rocks don't have DNA codes and aren't a threat. The Tyranids are on a cosmic genocide campaign to kill everything that's biologically alive and not part of the Hive Mind while absorbing whatever genetic strengths it has into their gene-pool.
>>
>>98699996
Orks as well. It's possible for them to get net positive with the angry mushrooms, but pound for pound of protein it's going to go down a lot harder than anything else.
The real trick to beating the nids is to blow them out of the sky prior to planetfall. Everything after that is self imposed suicide.

Every action involves energy loss
Every zergling muscle fiber twitch is an expenditure of energy
Your example of burning involves energy loss
The physical/biochemical process of biomass recovery involves chemical/caloric energy expenditure and energy loss

>>
>>98700033
If the nids were interested in photosynthesising their own energy there'd be garden worlds. Instead they are leaving barren rocks in their wake. Burn the nids with fire and you've denied the swarm dinner. Do it on a wide enough scale and the hive fleets will become lean enough for the imperial navy to engage it comfortably.
>>
>>98700025
Anon do you think if I go outside and set a forest on fire all of that biomass is just gone from the Earth forever? Just deleted? That's not how it works. Molecules just change form and get moved around, nothing is erased. Forest fires are how you revitalize the soil with nutrients so new stuff grows. The Tyranids are so advanced a Hive Fleet is a fully self-contained, engineered ecosystem, they have Tyranid plants and Tyranid microbes and everything else you need. All it takes is the stuff the plants feed off of, which is sunlight, which is fucking everywhere. When nids invade their spores cover your entire planet is rapidly growing hyper-adapted alien jungle that soaks up all the juicy biomass particles in the soil and the atmosphere and then the feeder-beasts eat them. If you kill the entire nid swarm and burn it all a new jungle grows over the top and absorbs it all and the next wave of nids comes and eats that too, it is never-ending. The only way to make them lose any biomass is to blow the entire planet up or blast it with so much Exterminatus grade energy that all the vaporized biomass is blown off into space and scattered to the void, or to use esoteric Necron weapons that teleport shit into pocket dimensions. Usually if they win on the planet they lose zero of what they committed to it. That's the huge threat of the Tyranids. You can bleed them out bit by bit in the space battles but not on the ground where gravity is going to keep all that biomass concentrated where they can eventually reabsorb it one way or another.
>>
>>98700021
In current game, basic-ass marines do serve *a* purpose in being good enough at shooting enemy infantry to be worth bringing if you're playing "traditional" take-and-hold gameplay or fighting an opponent like Sisters who are heavy on squishy units across their roster, but that's about it. You could also look at it as a preemptive way to force your opponent to play a certain way by forcing him to curate his list, something that like a guard player could only really do by bringing a Baneblade.

The other side of that issue though, where the enemy's battleline infantry aren't able to do that and therefore aren't worth bringing, means that Intercessors now also have little purpose, because the opponent is largely ignoring the reason you'd bring Intercessors, and marines have better units to fight the opponents' better units.
That's what I mean by 2nd-order effects, no consideration for the reaction to changes by GW so basic units are worthless, and it's just more obvious for the horde armies because of the contrast in stats between horde infantry like guardsmen and Intercessors.
>>
>>98700044
this is sort of a vague thing to say
biomass requires chemical energy to live
life is a chemical process which invariably involves expenditure and some amount of waste at every step which is why everything eventually dies

Yes, Zoats, those were gone by 2nd edition. Tyranids were more grimdark back then too, it was less "swarm of bugs that eats you and turns you into bio-goop to grow new bugs" and more "All Tomorrows swarm of horrible giger parasites that infect you and TRANSFORM you into whatever fleshy slave-symbiote they need to act as an anal sphincter door or horse-penis gun that shoots flesh-maggots made of your own stem cells".

You're just illiterate anon I don't know what to tell you. Open up a middle school chemistry book. Pretty early on you're going to find the axiom that mass cannot be created nor destroyed, only change form. Chemical reactions are just atoms moving around between molecules. All that is required is input energy, as another anon pointed out, and that energy is supplied by the sun, which is how our real life planet has plants that grow without "eating" anything.

yes, it does, you break apart the chemical bond of a biological molecule to move energy towards a mechanical movement, then you input energy from outside the system to re-establish that same chemical bond from the same pieces of biological molecules.
And you can reuse them over and over indefinitely, or if they break apart for whatever reason they get recycled and reassembled anew from the same parts.
earth already does all of that at the ecosystemic scale.
what part is it you don't understand?

The autist arguing that nids aren't possible in reality is correct, but all that that should tell us is that 40k is a fictional setting where physics doesn't work the same as in reality. I wouldn't give him that victory though, because he's being retarded about it and it should be obvious that a fictional world where egregores are real and you can tear a hole in space by believing hard enough doesn't work like the real one.
We have to have SOME nonsensical contrivances to let the game happen, or else every army would look like 1 of 3 permutations of the same general "mechanized infantry with big gun tanks" and that wouldn't sell well. Reality is boring, that's why we're playing sci-fi games.

Need a new thread I have some questions
>>
>>98700259
Flesh is just amino acids and fats that just about anything can eat.
Charred wood/charcoal is mostly raw carbon, which actually pretty hard for most organisms to use, it's chemically inert to most things you find in nature (interestingly graphite is super fucking reactive). We regularly find chunks of the stuff in human settlements beneath the earth from thousands of years ago. The carbon cycle involves the uses of other carbon bearing molecules like acids, carbohydrates, or carbonates. It DOES break down eventually, random chemical processes cause it to sometimes hydrate into a hydrocarbon or oxidize into carbon dioxide.
Anyways, back to /40kg/ relevancy, the real issue with "biomass" from a physical standpoint is that a lot of said biomass is "low energy", AKA it'll need additional energy added to be useful. You could probably handwave this by saying they use solar energy somehow, but stuff like silicas and carbonate rocks making up the vast majority of a planet's crust is so abundant and hard to process into a useable state that I find it hard to believe the Tyranids wouldn't just leave it behind.
>>

>>

>>
Nids using purely chemical bioenergy is a super inefficient storage method of energy and would undoubtedly mean they constantly are churning and burning biomass into volatiles and other inert excretions just to maintain so much large living mass in space and move matter up into orbit. Not to mention heat retention in space and preventing buildup of various reactive oxides and heavy metals that are poisonous to life, slowing various chemical processes if not killing them, if not isolated and excreted as waste.
>>
tyranids are extremely efficient at recycling biomass but that does not make the process closed or lossless
rebuilding dead organisms still costs time metabolism infrastructure and energy
sunlight is an external energy source with a finite input rate and waste heat is still lost
they can permanently lose ships spores weapons and biomass in space where recovery is impossible or unreasonable
their feeding can be interrupted and chaos necrons exterminatus and scorched earth can all deny them useful returns
the lore itself treats invasions as spending resources first and replenishing them afterward so their logistics are extremely strong but they are not infinite and their losses still matter

>There was a BL book where Cawl said that a nommed planet could be restored with time and external help, and nidfags are still seething about it.
Probably because Cawl is straight up bullshitting in that scene. He's looking at a lifeless, atmosphere-less rock mined of all its natural resources, ores, minerals, depleted of water and left nothing but barren bedrock. Not even a gasp of air remaining. And then he says "yeah we can easily fix this in a few days, Baal is gonna be right as rain, you'll see"
No explanations provided, no logic, just "yeah this isn't even a speedbump to Imperial technology." So it turns out that the Imperium has had downright magical terraforming tech for 10k years all along, and every world destroyed in Exterminatus was never actually destroyed. It literally shattered the lore

Alright bro I'll spoonfeed you: in nuclear fission you're turning matter into incredible amounts of energy. Matter synthesis would be the reverse of that process, taking unfathomable amounts of energy to create miniscule amounts of matter. How is that more efficient than metabolism?
>>
>>98700398
Cawl actually provides explanations in that book. The only real issue is the questionable willingness of the Imperium on wasting resources on terraforming a now death world.

Retard, Tyranids only eat the biosphere now.
They used to eat everything above the mantle layer but that took too long and gave the humans too long to prepare a decisive space battle. Thats why behemoth lost.
Nids care more about strategic victory than they do about scraping every marginal return on investment so these days they only go for the easily accessible stuff. IE the atmosphere and the biosphere.
Cawl said they could just crack the planet open for the chemicals they needed to build a new biosphere and he was right.
