I never got used to Krita and recently plunked down some money for a Clip Studio license on Humble Bundle but haven't found the time to install and explore it. >Miniatures and making paintings Painting a mini might help you understand volume/mass a little better but your mileage may vary and it sort of depends on how mindful you are. What you put in is what you get out and all that. I think sculpting with a bit of plasticine clay might help build a deeper understanding as well. Still, don't skip at least a little life drawing. People drawing/painting things then sculpting/modeling them is pretty common, not sure about the other way around though. Wouldn't be surprised.

Requesting an assassin for an upcoming Dark Heresy campaign. Xocoh is a feral worlder from a planet heavily inspired by Mayan and Aztec aesthetics. He wears some ornate clothing, usually decorated with either black feathers or pieces of jade, as well as some more standard imperial clothing and armor underneath, borrowed from the quartermaster of his new employer. He has some exposed skin - he is probably wearing pants but only pieces of light armor instead of a shirt, and is either barefoot or wearing fairly light shoes. His weapon is a large, two-handed macahuitl (a flat wooden club inlaid with shards of obsidian on either end), and it has been engraved with the symbol of the Inquisition.Take liberties with the pose and the expression, but I generally imagine him as a grim, stoic, and quiet type if that helps.

I've certainly seen a lot worse (like, everything on the left side of pic related, for example), I can tell the artist actually looked at Maya murals and art (especially at Bonampak) when drawing it, and some of the small details do fit the way Maya art depicted things, but I don't get the impression the artist was super informed on Maya fashion and iconography even if they clearly did some research (which I do respect), that or they're just taking a lot of it still takes a lot of liberties with some of the choices made. He's a bit inspired by the character of Conan in the novels - strong but as reliant as cunning as he is on strength, and wary of civilization rather than an outright savage. He was formerly a warrior for the primary cult on his planet, which he discovered was selling the captives he was taking to the Dark Eldar (unacceptable) rather than sacrificing them to the Black Eagle, their analogue for the Emperor (acceptable). Learning this nearly got him killed, but he escaped and happened to find an inquisitorial team that was investigating the very same matter. He joined up with them in assassinating the priests in charge, and was branded an outcast by his people as a result.He is new to Imperial culture and still wears much of the trappings of his home world as a result, but he has taken on some facets of imperial dress. Based on the Jaguar image you posted, perhaps maybe instead of feathers he wears a suit fashioned to look like an alien animal's pelt? He's an assassin, so he likes to be able to sneak up on his enemies before hitting them with his big bladed club. If there's any advice you can give based on this, I'd be glad to hear it! Otherwise no worries, you've already given a lot to go off of.
