Any, I'm opening myself to anything that would take me away from this slog called real life. Most splats deal with ages old characters and problems, "the new is forced to confront the consequences of the old" is an element of gothic horror that you can find everywhere across WoD/CofD, and a foundational one, methinks.
>How would you convey that sort of atmosphere in game?
Descriptions, sometimes a single adjective here and a Latin word there is all it takes, media other than the spoken word works too, history, history, history.

You, the player, can feel secure in the knowledge that magic isn't fucking real. You, the vampire, or werewolf, or whatever, know there's a hundred different bullshit spells in the wild, and your peers know several of them, and you can only begin to guess which ones.

Maybe the new kid on the block doesn't know that much, but he begins to understand there is more supernatural out there, possibly powerful, and is spooked regardless.
What I like about WoD is that the more you know the scarier and messier it gets.

>>
>>98705197
The evil of mages is purely in what they're tempted to do, right? Like a Verbena probably knows a rote that works really well if you perform a human sacrifice while doing it, but there's no supernatural compulsion to do that.

Half was erp and thirsting after the twink prince, a third roleplaying high society and social clubs, and the last sixth fighting an uphill battle against a bad adaptation of already unbalanced mechanics (I got accused of power gaming for that).
It convinced me the only proper way to play any game is with friends.
>>
>>98705706
I stopped trying discord play by post for similar reasons. It had you go through a job application style multiple phases and interviews to even start creating a character. Worst part is, they had like 6 STs, all of them overworked and had no time to even read any of it beyond a cursory glance.

You start at arete 1 and your avatar gatekeeps the cosmic power from you until you learn your life lessons. Also you don't get to find out about subjectve reality until you start discarding instruments which is arete 3 at minimum unless you somehow get the purple paradigm right on your first guess.

What incentive is there to not play a character who does this? Why would I want to play a character who is objectively wrong about everything in a way that makes them mechanically weaker?

Shark here. Got some good news and some bad news. And also REALLY GOOD NEWS.

-Good news is that there was a game today.

-Bad news is that Shark was still a wraith. I have spent most of the session doing nothing. I only rolled three times (and that’s because I failed the two previous attempts, otherwise it would have been once). Anything else I did was fluffed that barely mattered and could be ignored.

So in that spirit I was in a pretty shitty mood. When I spend hours doing nothing I barely stay focused. So unfortunately I don’t have much to tell for storytime. And some pretty epic stuff happened. Some related to Shark too… but again I was in a foul mood and I couldn’t interact at all so I didn’t listen much.

I’ll ask for details later. Though I’m not sure if anything would come up.

-REALLY GOOD NEWS is that the ST wants to make amends. It’s been like 4 to 5 times now that I spent the entire session doing absolutely nothing but listening to what the other players do. So ST confirmed that not only Shark will become an Abomination, but Anubis will make him his childe. So yeah, Shark gets a boost to 5th generation! ST also allows me to build the Garou I will inhabit exactly as I want with the W20 core book. I will even inherit the starting gifts! He even allows me to refund some things Shark had at chargen. I want to exchange them for more abilities, because Shark always gain more powers but without abilities he can barely use them. I also banked 15 exp, so I can get myself some gifts of fomori powers.

Catalina was also offered the opportunity of becoming a head of the Triatic Wyrm. If she accepts she could also become an abomination and become the Avatar of the Défiler Wyrm.
>>
>>98706112
yeah who wouldn't want to play anything besides w5
>>
>>98706124
it would've been more funny if you made shark a rokea instead
>>
>>98706130
I was offered the opportunity a while back, but just a glance at the stats of a rokea vs a garou wasn’t that exhilarating. And I knew jack shit about rokea gifts.
>>
>>98706112
Carrot: you want to play a Wizard, or a Super-Agent, or a Theurgist, who believes in and uses the trappings of that archetype to work changes on reality, rather than a boring person who just kinda... wishes things to happen
Stick: spend 1 Willpower. Even in the purple paradigm, instruments are tools to help your mind shape the magic. If you're going to raw-dog it, then you have to spend WP. Possibly also take the difficulty bump.

But that is Mage: Revised

There was a short story about this mage who wanted to rip out a pregnant werewolf’s fetus “to smoke it” like weed, and it culminated in the mages death, because the pregnant werewolf did a suicide move that worked out better than intended. I thought it was funny.

To beat a mage you just have to surprise them by doing something really stupid.
>>
>>98706229
Best core rulebook art is probably VtM 2e. Revised isn't bad either though. But most kino is unironically VtM1e core. I love that it tells the story of a vampire's entire unlife over the course of one section of the book via the artwork.

I’m still taking Berserker. ST approved of it. So I’m gonna have 15 rage. I’m not sure what else I want. I have access to Black Spiral Dancers gifts at 5 exp per rank, up to rank 3. Also fomori powers for the same price. For the fun of it I’m interested in Body Expansion. Imagine turning into a 30’ giant with +4 damage. If we want to get silly adding the Size Shifts three times could multiply the height up to 60’ ! I welcome suggestions.

Other than Nephandi, I don't really think temptation is the right word here. Mages kind of just do it for the love of the game and because they know reality doesn't actually matter that much anymore, but it isn't temptation in the same way the Beast is compelling you to go full Khorne on someone.

Body Expansion usually comes with drawbacks like brittle bones (unsoakable lethal damage on a botch) though you could see if your ST is willing to remove the drawback if you pay the 4 cost instead of the 2. You are the avatar of one of the beast-of-war so it would make sense you have a 'premium option'.

As for suggestions: Unnatural Strength (+4 strength) and Bestial Mutation (+2 to all physical attributes, appearance becomes 0) are also really good choices albeit a little costly. Armored Hide (+3 soak dice) and Bulky (3 additional health levels) are great for survivability and are on the cheaper side too. Elemental Resistance or maybe Hide of The Wyrm from Freak Legion just for any leftover points.

that reminds me of a question I never could quite figure out:
if two werewolves strike at each with lots of bonus rage actions and try to dodge each others strikes, does the dodge consume the upcoming action or just any of the bonus actions? Like, if werewolf 1 strikes will werewolf 2 dodge and then get his own action or is it werewolf 1s turn again?
>>
>>98706604
So far I’m not aware of the real rules for fomori powers. I’ve been mostly using this site and we count each one costing 5 exp

https://saligia.fandom.com/wiki/Fomori

ST might be following the book, but he hasn’t said anything about how I view the costs yet.

Also got some answers to an earlier question about those fomori powers… because I’m the avatar of Beast-of-War I’m not a regular bane. And I’m not even considered a fomori. So I can’t have taints, but I also don’t get new powers with taints.

Also is Bestial Mutations compatible with the garou forms? I was under the impression that shapeshifting powers aren’t cumulative.

Most of the powers you picked are interesting. Excepting the last twos. I don’t know what they do.

Also I forgot to mention something. Shark has lost all the physical disciplines he had. That’s the price to pay for switching bodies. So he’s losing 1 potence, 2 celerity and 3 fortitude.
>>
>>98706785
What I know is that if you either spend Rage or activate Celerity for extra actions, they happen consecutively on your turn.
>>
>>98706796
The Possessed book gives point values to fomori powers, and XP costs correlating to them. W20 just has a list of fomori powers, no rating, no mention of XP.
>>
>>98706803
I am pretty sure that if two opponents spend rage, they alternate in order of initiative. And also everybody gets all of their actions before any rage actions occur.
>>
>>98704900
How powerful would a gestalt character who is neonate tier in every major splat be?
>>
>>98706882
mage fucks up all their other powers by applying the rules of paradox on them because they are now routed through their avatar
>>
Is it actually true that some mages brag about their paradox
>>
>>98706796
>Also is Bestial Mutations compatible with the garou forms?
If you just go off of the entry, its simply a permanent effect. So I would assume its a flat +2 to all physical attributes and Appearance 0 in all forms but its not something you 'shift' into unless you have the Hidden Power merit. Since Shark has an appearance of 0, your ST could consider it redundant... Actually if youre getting a new body, you could get a new appearance rating so it wouldnt be as redundant. Maybe in a way that black spiral dancers take on bat like characteristics, you could look more Sharklike.
>we count each one costing 5 exp
>Most of the powers you picked are interesting. Excepting the last twos. I don’t know what they do.
Elemental Resistance gives you 1 soak dice against a particular effect (lightning, fire, balefire, etc) per point spent. Hide of The Wyrm gives 1 soak dice per point spent. I would probably disregard those options since youre doing flat exp costs instead of playing with power points.
>>

>you want to play a Wizard, or a Super-Agent, or a Theurgist, who believes in and uses the trappings of that archetype to work changes on reality
Except I want to play a wizard (or psychic, or weird super-scientist, or etc.), period- the stupid Purple Paradigm / Ackshually Reality is Subjective nonsense is a colossal fucking copout that's literally never worked in anything that's tried it, from Kult to Unknown Armies.

It's easily the worst thing about MtAs and the biggest reason to play Awakening instead
>>
>>98706882
what does neonate mean? like at character creation? Not that amazing in a plot-moving/narrative sense but completely fucking busted in a mechanical sense.

They'd have the raw statbuffs and multiactions of a garou, spheres even at 1 can be used to reduce basically any difficulty by 3 including your attack, soak, dodge or damage rolls. With the 3 vamp discipline dots, I'unno. Celerity for even more actions? Fortitude to hit soak so high nothing damages you? Changeling uh... well you can unleash and win any encounter now. You can also use wayfare to give yourself even more actions or something like that.

The problem is really that the absolute top tier powers in wod are mechanically not nearly as powerful as they are narratively. They just dont roll the dicepools and don't have powers that the narrative consistently displays the having.

>Werewolves make good rugs for wizards

We have a major problem where werewolves can only reproduce by mating with Kinfolk. And because of the rarity of these pairings actually producing werewolves, they'll always be outnumbered by kin. This is actually an advantage for male werewolves, who can impregnate multiple women within the time it takes a single pregnancy to come to term, but a female werewolf reproduces at a fixed rate no matter how many Kinfolk she has available to her.
I propose we travel to the Deep Umbra, to an Umbral Realm where spirits of literary concepts are known to reside. Once there, we can search for an Omegaverse spirit...

Intrigue so thick you can cut it. Every action you take has consequences, including inaction. Every word will be used to string you up, unless you garotte another with it first.
Courtly minefields are great for that.

Conveyance is tricky. Less is more, but too little becomes confusing instead of mysterious.
You gotta lock down abilities that trivialize the challenge. Don't be unfair, but don't allow the players to make light of the situation. Something like a prince (if you're doing VtM) that doesn't allow tomfoolery in his house.
Soft power is the name of the game. Let the players have their moments, but don't give them easy indicators of how well they're doing for themselves. Everyone's got a poker face, and you gotta work to see what's underneath.
And make sure the scale of the aftermath is great. This isn't just a social dinner, this is the prelude to a civil war, a jyhad after an ancilla, or something equally impactful. Whoever wins here wins half the battle later.

The Sons of Ether broke from the Technocracy and joined the Traditions because they were addicted to phlogiston.
But why did the Virtual Adepts never join the Technocracy? Their entire raison de etre began with a US military project.
>>
>>98707433
virtual adepts also been technocrats. They used to be the "Guild of Analytical Reckoners" but they been unhappy with how the technocracy handled world war 2 (supporting the axis for the first half of the war and only dropping that support when the nazis turned out to be a nephandi front) and then the NWO assassinated alan turing which was one thing too much for them and they left

if the union wouldn't have lost 2 convention it would have been 7 vs 7

They started in the Technocracy.
They left because;
A) The Technocracy being divided over WW2 at the start (ignoring that they did the same and the Traditions they joined did the same)
B) One of their best, Alan Turing, getting killed by NWO. (not mentioning the fact that he was working with Etherites and that, for some reason, NWO didn't start with that but with the threats of revealing he was a homo. Mainly because they wanted to follow the real life history of Alan Turing)

There is no mention that female Garou need to be in heat in order to breed, ergo female Garou can just take advantage of the faster gestation of wolves, while male Garou would have to deal with only mating female wolves when they're in heat.
It is most optimal for male Garou to only produce offspring with humans, and for female Garou to only produce offspring with wolves.

Is it random? based on the mother/father? neither? Or can you have someone who is multiple types of kinfolk?

iirc most iterations say that any heritage beyond the first just manifests as the "Spirit Heritage" background. Like a bear and wolf make a child, they become one or the other and get a +2 to interact with the other side of their family.

The caveat is your average werewolf was born a human and probably finds sex with wolves more than a bit distasteful. And more than a few sources say Werewolves try to mate for life so breeding multiple wolves is likely off the table

Even further complicating breeding with wolves, it's harder to hide an increase in the feral wolf population on that scale without killing a couple yourself. There's probably a reason why wolf-kin are kind of valued and of limited stock for most tribes that aren't RT, and even with the RT the wildlife sanctuaries they larp at has only so much space.

mina has the character of a toreador, but her abilites are: a magic gun and umbrella. the ability to summon bat spirits (which she can also feed her gun) and the ability to turn into a swarm of bats to escape

that would be: thaum with path of the spirit manipulation on atleast 4 to turn the gun into a fetish and presumably a ritual to enchance her umbrella
spiritus 2 or animalism 3 if you ignore that bats being spirits
and without porting the swarm form from vtr the closest you get is protean 4 to turn into a bat
so either a complete schizo caitiff build or a gangrel sorcerer but again her character is that of a very vain toreador brat whose parents bought her embrace with money so i might lead toward caitiff

funnily enough drifter is easier to build and his abilities are lower dots powers in vtm despite drifter being a 400+ old elder in the game lore
most of his ingame powers are just got protean 2, basic celerity and auspex 1 with obtenebration 2 for his ult and the combination power Blood Thorns (protean 2 potence 2) for his "gun"
and that's just a sabbat gangrel

question for people that more about the order of hermes and mage society than i do. what would the order generally do if a kinfolk apprentice went through their first change before they awakened? would they just send them away, kill them, use for experiments, or just keep them a forever apprentice like they do with sorcerers that wont awaken?
>>
>>98711085
The Nurses are all ghouls. It gets weird.
>>
>>98711537
You aren't going to get murdered and dissected by the order of hermes, IN MOST CASES. Unless your pater (teacher) is a super mega dickwad and or you fucking trashed the place and possibly other people in your first change. So I assume you're going to stay in the order, whether you can still hold rank is questionable. If you can, you are probably at the level any non-awakened stay at.
They might actually try to keep you in the order as a consor warbeast esque creature instead of sending you to your tribe or whatever, which may provoke the local garou, who are far less inclined to be reasonable about this for multiple reasons. There's a good chance the Order might thus give you the boot only to not deal with psychotic wolves.

So.. all in all not too bad if you didn't sperg out in the chantry? You're now a sought after consor, though possibly with baggage.

>>
>>98711537
that can't really happen because house fortunae uses divination and luck magic to make sure that the order of hermes only takes on apprentices that are unawakened mages so that they can keep the lie that their apprenticeship does work going

they would know that this is a not yet changed werewolf not a kinfolk

that being said the order has some consors (supernatural companions) that are werewolves and a class of non awakened personal but those are prettty much just serfs and canon fooder
>>
>>98711537
canonically most splats are dimwitted about the other and mages are still human so it would depend on how emotionally close they were. assuming the hermetic didn't immediately turn the garou into magic ingredients, they would most likely be seen as a bygone and relegated to a guard/combat role or be sent to a mythic creature sanctuary.
>>
>>98711537

order of hermes only takes on people they call "magickally latent individuals" as apprentices and it's not something like a mage just showing up and making your their apprentice anymore it's the mages of hhouse fortunae testing you possibly for decades and they do kill potentially dangerous recuitment targets

> Our Order (particularly mages of House Fortunae and members of the Personnel committee) secretly monitors potential recruits, sometimes for a decade, looking for demonstrations of mental acuity, inquisitive nature, respect for knowledge, strength of will and innate discretion. During this time, the subject undergoes surreptitious tests. The recruiter may expose her to radical ideas on the nature of reality, give her the chance to cheat in her studies, or even invite her to join a harmless occult society. Some tests assess the student's ability to absorb new concepts, but the most important ones examine her character and trustworthiness. The screening usually proceeds methodically; unstable or untrustworthy apprentices present a grave danger to the Order. However, some recruits Awaken spontaneously or attract the attention of the enemy; inin such exceptional cases, the recruiter may bring his student to a neutral "safe house" (never a Covenant!) until she calms. If the Awakened student is obviously unsuited to the Order, the recruiter may deliver her to representatives of a more appropriate Tradition. If the student presents real danger to herself or to the Order, the recruiter may instead take extreme and permanent action. If the recruit is suitable for apprenticeship- well, you yourself know the rest.

pic related is what the other anon talked about with the apprenticeship itself being kinda fake because of house fortunae

Now in the dark ages that could happen because house fortunae didn't exist yet. they did sometimes just take in teenagers and they didn't knew about other splats enough to notice a entire house turning into vampires-.

>Now in the dark ages that could happen because house fortunae didn't exist yet. they did sometimes just take in teenagers and they didn't knew about other splats enough to notice a entire house turning into vampires-.

they however didn't teach you jack shit during the apprenticship back then because the fellowships of dark age mage including the order of hermes all don't make use of sorcery at all and don't train sorcerers so in that scenario it would just be that your garou was treated as a manslave by a mage for 3 years

however back then mages of europa assumed that every supernatural being that isn't demonic or heavinly is some sort of "fae" so the code of hermes that all those hermetics swear about did forbid them from messing with garou as it does with all other monster (or rather fae) and a master killing the apprentice in anything but self defense would find himself in a weird legal battle with House Quaesitor because he is allowed to kill his apprentices but he is not allowed to mess with the fae

every human can bind with a avatar and can be made to awaken by demonlords or grimoires or master alchimists or archmages but as the traditions and especially hermetics understand it only 1 in 5 million can awaken as mages as is and that already includes both normal awakening and the hermetic apprenticship

>Very few mortals, perhaps one in five million, have the potential to become mages. Those with a magickal affinity for our Order typically Awaken gradually. Often, these chosen evince some ability that sets them apart

So Shark’s about to get a new body. Taken by force from a Black Spiral Dancer by Anubis. ST even revealed to us that he has the special power to create abominations with a 100% success rate. Apparently in our game it was he that allowed Set to embrace Sobek.

yeah population in wod is stupid

> Only so many hunters can be supported by one herd. In years past only one Kindred lived within each city and each
could claim it as her own domain. When cities were small, being a race of loners was an effective survival tactic. However, as cities have grown, so has the population of hunters. Now it is no longer rare for many to live within the same
domain. A large city, such as San Francisco or Hamburg, normally supports a vampire population of anywhere from 15 to
30 undead. Larger cities like New York or greater London hold a proportionately larger population, and less reside in
smaller cities. As a rule of thumb, assume that there is one vampire for every 100,000 mortals. Thus, the greater Chicago metropolitan area, a region of seven million mortals, can reasonably support nearly 70 vampires. Often a prince will artificially regulate how many Kindred reside within the city, thus ensuring the sanctity of the Masquerade. The cities could certainly hold more Kindred, but there are legitimate fears of discovery
-vtm 2e corebook
san a city who had in 1999 a population of roughly 775.000 people and hamburg which had 1.7 million people had a population of: the prince + 7 primogen + their one(san) or two(ham) childe each... who also have to fill in the role of sherrif, seneschal, scourge and the anarchs and the opressed titless player character

anon... kinfolk is not a state it's literaly "a breed a apart" it's genetic not it just didn't happen it's that they are just carriers for the gene there is even a term for pre change garou: cubs

> We’re spirits made flesh. We’re creatures of the two worlds — man and beast, flesh and spirit. It’s this way from birth
>A child of a werewolf has about a 10-percent chance that he himself will be born a “full-blooded” Garou — not good odds. Some werewolves manage to divine their children’s true nature at birth. Those without the proper resources to do so don’t discover which if any of their cubs are Garou until the young ones reach adolescence
>will be born a "full-blooded” Garou
>Half-blooded children are known as Kinfolk
revised corebook

>The Kinfolk have privileged knowledge of Gaia and her children, the Garou. Yet, except for their peripheral roles as wives, lovers, children and friends, they remain forever apart
Kinfolk Unsung Heroes

>Kinfolk — people who possess werewolf blood but are not shapechangers themselves
>The child of a werewolf more commonly only carries the werewolf gene. Such carriers are called Kinfolk.
>The term “cub” refers, in Garou society, to a werewolf who either has not yet Changed
>it isn’t typically possible to tell a pre-Change werewolf from a Kinfolk. Rumor has it that certain divinatory rites once allowed certain knowledge of whether a child would eventually Change, but if these rites ever existed, they are lost to modern Garou
>It sometimes happens that a Kin-Fetch, a werewolf, or a helpful spirit identifies a Garou pre-Change.
>When a Garou has a child (or cub) with a Kinfolk, their offspring has about a 10% chance of becoming Garou; the other 90% are Kinfolk. Garou matings with non-Kinfolk almost always produce Kinfolk rather than Garou, although such pairings are most often short-term, making data difficult to collect

all this to say being a werewolf is not normal genetics and is as scientific as the curse of cain. a kinfolk being an actual kinfolk or ferra can possibly be at birth or at first change. you wont know from doing a DNA test and you might get shakey results using magical divination. wouldnt it be fucked up a pack leaders son was divined to be a great werewolf leader like his father and he just never has his first change even into his 30s.

if we are at the topic of garou eugenics programs my favorite bit is that because of how the pure breed background works by raw your child can be more respected by garou for being your child than you can be yourself

Developmental Neogenetics Amalgamated did it they can even test if you are lupus or hormid born

NO again only at birth you are either a cub (10% chance) or a kinfolk (90% chance) this actually changes stuff for breeding even before the first change because kinfolk + normie = normie while fera (even cub) + normie = kinfolk
a cub can also not be made to awaken using alchemy because they are not human in the way a kinfolk are
> you might get shakey results using magical divination
that's because the garou have lost the rites for it. everyone else who has aura sight can figure it out just fine

it's silly but WtA IS the silly eugenics simulator game may i introduce you to werewolf the forsaken or god forbid w5 for a take on this that might be more up your alley
>>

DNA did not develop a test to confirm if someone is a kinfolk or garou before the first change. this is like knowing if someone is going to awaken from a dna test or only breeding awakened together so all their children will awaken. its spiritual genetics that can be manipulated by magick and operate on magickal rules.
>>
>>98712545
also a cub is a werewolf AFTER his first change and before his rite of passage because theres no fucking way to know for sure if hes a garou or kinfolk before
>>
>>98712545
>Developmental Neogenetics Amalgamated did it they can even test if you are lupus or hormid born
Nope. They explicitly cannot genetically test if someone has any variant of GLS, they are only able to determine this through observation of supernatural occurrences. For all of their attempts at scientific categorisation, DNA has no conclusive evidence that GLS is an actual genetic condition, they're just committed to perceiving it as such because one of their themes is science as blind dogma.
>>
>>98712588
no it's not because on IS genetic and one is a event only

the entire point of fera is that they are not really human and only related by two degrees of seperation that's why they can do stuff like the impergium and have all that other anti human stuff in the books you are meant to put yourself in a place where you are not human and because of that you can see that humans as they are right now are bad for the world

apocalypse might not be your game m8 and i don't mean this in a judgy way because it's silly it's camp and anti science and furry adjacent and more in a way not everyone finds fun while w5 is a bad joke i might acutally suggest forsaken because there werewolves are equal parts half human half spirit and while wolfblooded exists that it also extent of it and you don't have to deal with silly super science that the books keep telling us is not magical like all the other kinds of super sciences in the setting or entire pages about supernatural breeding
>>
>>98712601
Unless you can detect souls. Kinfolk get human ones.
>>
>>98712527
>Your Alpha is.. a Kinfolk?
>We win when we listen to him. When we make up a plan ourselves it gets really retarded. Probably because we're retarded.
>>
>>98712623
they have a wolf and human soul amalgamated together, starting when they change.

>>98712622
source? you are literally making shit up like DNA being able to tell lupus and homid apart
>>
>>98712601
now that's flat out wrong. i am >>98712245 but i am not the DNA anon and w20's corebook does say
>The term “cub” refers, in Garou society, to a werewolf who either has not yet Changed, or has not yet accepted her place as a Garou. The first application of the term is usually only used in retrospective, obviously, since it isn’t typically possible to tell a pre-Change werewolf from a Kinfolk. Rumor has it that certain divinatory rites once allowed certain knowledge of whether a child would eventually Change, but if these rites ever existed, they are lost to modern Garou.
pd 42
so a cub is a garou and not a kinfolk

>Garou heredity, being an amalgam of physical and spiritual factors, is not an exact science. With a few exceptions — Garou-Garou parents always produce sterile metis, and the offspring of a Garou is always either Garou or Kinfolk — we speak of Garou genetics more in overarching trends than in specifics. When a Garou has a child (or cub) with a Kinfolk, their offspring has about a 10% chance of becoming Garou; the other 90% are Kinfolk. Garou matings with non-Kinfolk almost always produce Kinfolk rather than Garou, although such pairings are most often
short-term, making data difficult to collect. About half the time, children born of two Kinfolk will be Kinfolk themselves; one in one hundred such births will produce a Garou. The rest will be non Kinfolk humans or wolves

and kinfolk apart does again say this
>>98712344
so a soon to be garou and kinfolk are different but not in a way that garou can tell without the help of spirits, but the orignal question was about hermetics and those can it's just spirit 1 or life 1 with halved successes or spirit 1 + life 1 without halved successes
>>
>>98712651
"The first application of the term is usually only used in retrospective, obviously" obviously
>>
>>98712657
>since it isn’t typically possible to tell a pre-Change werewolf from a Kinfolk.
because they can't tell not because there isn't a difference
>>
>>98712664
yet it never explains what that difference is except one goes through the change and the other doesn't a kinfolk can even have gnosis and never have the first change.
>>
i now fully understand why w5 dropped the kinfolk wieck slop
>>
>>98712680
because umm.. that's icky? Our protagonists doing something eugenics adjacent or the setting making it the obviously best choice? like, umm yes??? You'll find plenty of "people" praising w5 along those lines on reddit.
>>
>>98712696
its not even about that its about its retarded in the first place to say there is an actual genome that causes a werewolf gene and not a spiritual thing and its retarded for there to be heave story significance there being no real way to tell the difference between a kinfolk that could go through the change and one that never will and how there might not be a difference really just some do and some dont. also the "10% become garou and 90% become kinfolk" stat is retarded and survivors bias because you can only tell after they change. that other 90% could change at any time because theres no way to tell.
>>
>>98712670
>yet it never explains what that difference is except one goes through the change and the other doesn't a kinfolk can even have gnosis and never have the first change.
yes because that it's anon, they are kinfolk and not garou but that they will never go through the first change and that their children has less chance of becoming garou or kinfolk unless a garou the other parent are the only differences really beside another one that i am going to mention down later
that's why the revised book uses the term fullblooded for garou and half blooded for kinfolk
>Half-blooded children are known as Kinfolk
no idea why they changed that for w20 perhaps onyx path thought that this was a step too far?

and what that is they are lacking is not entirely clear the skindancer ritual might imply that they are not attuned to luna the same way the "pureblood" garou are because all pelts need to be from the same auspice however which one is fully up the skinner which means that the kinfolk is lacking a original one despite that also being something that for garou is choosen at birth

>Auspices
>At the moment a werewolf is born, she inherits an ancient legacy. Her breed will shape her view of the world, and one day, her tribe will teach her how to survive. Her fate in life, on the other hand, is shaped by something far more mystical. The phase of the moon at the instant of a werewolf’s birth determines her auspice the role she is destined to play in Garou society.
also from the revised corebook
>>
>>98712747
Those who were written off as kinfolk but receive a late first change are literal potential plot points or character concepts mentioned in various books. Making it difficult for metagamers to genetic test kinfolk is intended.
>>
>>98712747
No it is 100% about that for paradox lol. I think you might just be autistic because nobody fucking cares. It's not a "genome" it's spiritual inheritance likened to a gene you fucking troglodyte retard. You used to be able to tell pre-w20 when they pivoted and said you can't. Why? Because it's more dramatic that way, and is better for storytelling purposes. It even tells you there supposedly was lost rites for doing it.
Also why prattle on about survivorship bias, who the fuck cares? Kinfolk aren't being slaughtered en masse. And yes, kinfolk (or rather garou, as you are garou from birth) can change even very late but it almost always happens early. It's even possibly to stop a shifter from undergoing the first change, famously you can repress it with your own sheer willpower and cause yourself to become a lunatic. But again why does this matter? Why are you being a sperg about it? There's also the pure breed background which canonically increases the chance of your children being garou, which is a major and very significant part of garou society, having dots in pure breed and or having your children undergo first change is super high prestige.
>>
W20's version of the Baptism of Fire does state that Garou determine whether a child born of Kinfolk is Garou within a month of their birth, typically through Scent of the True Form, before they use the rite to give them a Kin-Fetch.
However, W20 also states everywhere else where it mentions Kin-Fetches that they are given to all Kinfolk in a scattershot fashion in order to keep track of them and just in case any of them ever do actually become Garou.
W20 also states that sometimes, a Garou soon to go through their First Change can be figured out before it occurs, though it doesn't go into detail about how this is done.
In the end, Garou heredity is not an exact science and anything that anyone has identified about it, whether they're DNA or the Garou Nation or anyone else, is just observation rather than a hard rule. The only two exceptions to this are that Garou pairings always produce metis and Garou always produce either Garou or Kinfolk, no matter who or what they pair with.

This whole clusterfuck of a conversation comes from people mixing up heredity and genetics and assuming that all heredity must be genetic, when it has unquantifiable spiritual components for werewolves.

Isn't there a thing where werewolves can just have kid with spirits too? I remember anons mentioning an anon who called garou retards for not establishing spirit rape camps in the umbra
>>
>>98712813
"Spirit Heritage" is described as an "ancestral tie to a household of spirits" and spirits view Garou who have this Background as "one of their own." It doesn't outright say how it's possible at all with none of the details providing anything to support the name of the Background, which implies that the Garou has spirit heritage.
So if Garou can breed with spirits, we don't know anything about it and it's even less of a science than anything involving Kinfolk.
>>
>>98712813
everyone can have kids with spirits the laham merit is not limited to mages as normies and sorcerers can have it too

the problem is more getting to one as a normie than if you can have kids with it

> It's best to just let it ride
again i am not actually interested in using it i am going to compare it to the city books with the population of the time of publication

for example berlin in 1993 had a population of 3,475,392 and by berlin by night it has 28 vampires living there (not counting vampires who are only visiting for the false caine stuff) so it's actually slightly under, but will very likely be over if you insert players, sires etc

Washington, D.C. population 1995 580,517 so only 5.8 vampires right? no it has 38

just for fun and to show newbies that white wolf also didn't give a shit

They already have a bioweapon, Project Reaper has been designed to wipe out all Fera and their Kinfolk, to be used as a last resort if GLS reaches a critical mass before DNA has developed gene therapy to point where they can reverse genetic damage caused by GLS.
The main hole in this is how they managed to develop a bioweapon that genetically targets Fera and their Kinfolk when they can't identify actual genetic markers of GLS and aren't even aware of Fera other than Garou, but that's probably due to the other big hook of DNA, that they have an unknown backer who keeps them afloat and provides them with effectively infinite funding and research material. I have no doubt that whoever this backer is, they probably provided the secret sauce that makes Project Reaper function.

A good humanity system would likely measure a lot of shit like temporal cultural displacement, non-human thought (humans as cattle, etc), physical distortion from humanity, and borrowing a little bit shit from Fate, spiritual/magical distortion from humanity. I think turning into a Wight when you go full 0 humanity is a bit dumb especially given how there are paths and shit to stabilize your beast anyway, so I'd have wights specifically be extremely low humanity vampires that can't sate their hunger and get destabilized, either through near death, torpor, or just being extremely hungy for a long time.

As for the system itself, a good humanity tracker should probably go from some arbitrary negative value to a positive value showing how deeply non-human you are, anything below something like -25/100 would be low humanity but anything above 50/100 would be high humanity.

In this system, we'd have something like
>A high humanity vampire has a cultural tether to modern humanity, either a friend, hobby, obsession, knowledge
>A high humanity vampire looks or can at least partially masquerade as humanoid
>a high humanity vampire recognizes humanity for being humanity and not consistently just livestock and servants, whether this takes the part of recognizing individual human worth for more than siring or ghouling or if it's deeper is up to the ST and player
>a high humanity vampire should roughly believe themselves human enough to spiritually perceive themselves as such, and should not be capable of magical feats overwhelmingly more advanced than what a specialized human sorcerer could do (though this means disciplines above 3 likely will incur a humanity loss, an exception can be given to what your character specializes in.)

This is all very autistic though

Drone warfare is basically guns V2 and will be normalized
