>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre. Let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet & Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Full Spectrum Dominance,
Gaslands, HeroClix, Kings of War, Lords & Legends,
Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam,
SAGA, Sahipkıran, Sludge, Space Weirdos, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sword Weirdos,
Urban War, Void Admiral, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.
Archon Studio, Atomic Mass Games, Black Site Studios, CMON, Goblin King Games, Lucid Eye, Mantic,
North Star Military Figures, OnePageRules, Osprey, Para Bellum, Seb Games, Spellcrow, TTCombat,
Victrix, Wargames Atlantic, Warlord Games...
...and many other publishers.

>Places to get minis; Updates to the minis list are welcome.

>Give me your idea for a sci-fi game with square bases that is not in epic scale.
Grav tank warfare. Tanks are approximately hotwheels size. 3-6 grav tanks per side + drones and uavs. Square basing is easier to track arcs and sides for damage, where PD countermeasures are mounted, etc.
Use Renegade Legion's armour penetration templates while we're dreaming in technicolor.

>Check OPR Skirmish v3.6 books
>All multi-model units are gone
>Heroes are so expensive you can't even field one in a 300pts list
>Units are so cheap you actually have a hard time to fill the list without fielding too many units per point limit
I honestly have no idea what they were thinking with those point values. I will stick with v3.5 after all, at least for the foreseeable future. Perhaps I will copy some of the updated wording and rules to my v3.5 battle bible and call it a day.
>>
>>98708974
don't think that's true, unless you have proof?

Is momminiature’s whole catalogue on their myminifactory yet?

What are the changes for the main games?
>>
>>98708867
I don't know, but I want to know
>>
>>98709475
They only made basic rules available for free so it's hard to tell, those cover the core concepts only. The only difference I spotted in the Skirmish rules is yet another attempt to clean up the command models wording.
I assume the bulk of the changes between v3.5 and v3.6 lies in new point values and special abilities, removal of the multi-model units and upping the number of attacks and wounds. Almost everything seems to be at least Tough(3) now, which is supposed to compensate for not being multi-model units I suspect.
I don't mind the [3] units being gone but that should be followed by upping most of the point values (but not heroes ffs) AND changing the Force Organisation rules. Until these are addressed, I won't switch to v3.6.

Unironically asking for a more detailed breakdown.
Why are artsy autists like this? It doesn't matter what medium including miniatures.
Artfags were saying a black canvas on display at a museum is art and then when AI rolls around they say art must take talent.
What's going on with artists?
>>
>>98709096

>some of them post about it on /awg/
Party A (Matt) has posted their side with screenshots of communications, so far as I can tell Party B (Trent) is doing things like >>98709696
and not posting any evidence. Its going to be a mix of everyone involved being fucking retarded rich kids in oakland trying to spite each other's art parties over preformative politics and social media greifing. The evidence posted won't matter because artsy communities operate on social credit and we live in such a fucked up world that posting evidence makes people feel bad so because you've made people feel bad you are now the bad person.
I even like artsy rules light games and all sorts of grimdank bullshit but like any arts scene the 28 stuff has gotten 'popular' enough its largely overrun with garden variety narcissistic trying to take advantage of a small group of nerds who have recently discovered they can larp as cool kids.
Hate this shit, hate how it kills creative engagement, hate how blachnitsu and turnip are entirely corporate slop now.
>>
>>98709623
Turns out publishers, editors, etc actually are a little bit necessary in order to tardwrangle artists into making a sellable product.
It's a terribly sad thing but sometimes you actually do need a guy in a suit in the room to tell them to stop fucking around and actually sell a product before they can shoot their own foot off.

Shame. I'd play solo Kill Team again but I'm really sick of having to get a degree in every single team I wanna try out. Modern GW has so much rules bloat
>>
>>98709913
You're likely better off finding a ruleset for 2 player games you like and building procedures for solo play from there if you're unable to play both sides fairly. Not a thing I do but you might be able to ask the /SRPGG/ about it. They have a lot of procedural table background.
>>

Its going to be a hard find, since a lot of people went with just the app for the rules and fluff. SFG went with a scheme where you get the annual subscription for free when you buy the yearly big display piece that has paid off.
>>
OK so I just found these little dudes at a local bookstore for $8. I was unsure whether to get them (they're fuck tiny), until I found them online for $125nzd. What the fuck is with the ridiculous price? Are they worth so much more bc the company labels itself collectors figures? Did I secretly find treasure worth reselling on epay? Do they make their figures out of silver or something? Or are kiwis fucking sheep to the point of brain damage? What's going on here?

Solid lead has historically only been for the lowest tier of recasters, but lead alloyed with tin and some other stuff is unironically one of the best kinds of metals for miniatures. Everything from its physical properties to its price would be perfect, except for the fact that it's a toxic heavy metal.
>>
>>98710019
What I really don't get is why Killteam and other modern GW rulesets reads like a fucking programming language. Are the tourney fags really so far gone they [NEED] everything to be [FORMATTED] like it's going to be processed into [MACHINE CODE]?

What makes 5XFH "just an RPG" when it's just a bunch of tables to generate skirmish battles and string them together?
Try coherently describing what you actually want from a game.
Everything is miniature agnostic when the players agree, which ought to be easy solo.

One thing I will give ai credit for is that it can be useful for opfor. Tell it what it has, tell it what the terrains like, and have it give you a general strategy to build the opfors actions around.
I admit I've only tested it and still run both sides fairly, but chat gpt seemed okay if completely unwilling to commit to any attacks when it had a good flanking position and could have rolled up the hill with its line. And completely failed to deal with harassing light infantry.
>>
Thirty quid. Thirty quids. For a ticket.

>>98713725
I mean its a kitbashing event where you are presumbly provided with material. Its not much different from say, attending pottery workshop and the prices per meeting seem to be similiar.
>>
>>98713885
Nah it's a vendor convention with participation games and Q&As, I think Kamping Kitbash have a stall but it's not the point of the event.

Salute is £10 for comparison, most are £5 or so

It's because Spru is free for vendors rather than £50-200 per table, and it's a large posh venue in the centre of Nottingham.
>>
>>98713718
Or... you could just play each side to the best of your ability and sticking to whatever conditions for win each side has. Seems alot easier and streamlined than asking chatgpt.

I mentioned last time that since the To Hit and To Wound rolls are automatic the skill to survive is to try and get the modifiers that decrease the opponent's damage. Or just roll hot af defense rolls like that guy on the roof.
I wanted to try and use spotters to turn my big guy into an artillery piece but I ended up over exposing them and they didn't get the chance.
Such little rolling does feel weird and we both would start actually rolling for an attack before realizing that there was no need to.

The little mechs are some of the models that attracted me to the game in the first place and I'm pleased that they're actually quite good. My wife, bless her heart, is primarily interested in rapey TTRPGs/skirmish games (whereas any with the threat of character death stresses her out too much), so I am putting the final touches on the playtest version of exactly that, although it is also able to handle regular non-lewd conflict.

Exactly that. It's an rpg without any roleplaying and incredibly uninspired rules. They barely differ from anything else on the market.

>Try coherently describing what you actually want from a game.
A game is a series of interesting choices. There are no interesting choices to be made with a bog standard set of activation and combat rules that most of these solo wargames seem to have. The Studio Tomahawk line of games for example are exciting and innovative, most others following the GW philosophy of game design aren't.

By this point I was put of printed tiles, so this was it. The table includes whether there are treasures in each room, and the big room has two treasures. Instead of the usual "grab treasure and get to any board edge" dynamic of Frostgrave, we had to grab treasure and retreat to a staircase.
