>>98677564>tqI don't.
>>98677564>How do you display your miniatures?I don't, they just kinda clutter the room in game related piles.

>TQI've a vitrine.
>>98678493is that the latest Detolf alternative?
why is the starcraft game getting so much hate? most of the minis look great.
>>98678576I find it strange that they are so extremely big and the game is played in such a small board.
>>98678596holy fuck that's really big
>>98678576>why is the starcraft game getting so much hate?It isn't.>>986785963 x 5/6 is hardly small
>>98678610>3 x 5/6What the fuck is that unit of measurement, no wonder the US uses metric for anything important and then convert it to imperial. Regardless of that it is 54"x36". That is smaller than the already stupidly small 40k boards of 60"x44"Specially when the old 6'x4' that 40k used to have was already too small.
>>98678702>What the fuck is that unit of measurement,It's 3 foot by 5 foot or 6 foot, what the fuck do you think it was? Centimeters? Fucking idiot.Anyway, that's not a small space. 2 x 2 is a small space. 3 x 3 is a small space. Anything that has 5 or more foot in its measurement is not small.
>>98678576Would have given it a try if the scale was smaller, like 10 maybe 15mm instead of this giant stuff
Are there any games that have like base building, base defence as part of the game? .. ilke playing and rts or maybe simple dota lite elements?
>>98678596that is stupidly big thinking of how big some starcraft units ARE
>>98678963It's advertising, can't have people see "gamers playing with indeterminate minis" tgrough tbe LGS full length wall-to-wall windows on the sidewalk, it needs to be very clear what ip the minis are
>Nooo it's too big!Same total height as an intercessor.
>>98678576If it was an appropriate scale for the gameplay I would expect out of an adaptation of an RTS, instead of the appropriate scale for a business decision to try and capture some of the 40k market share, I'd be interested.>>98678787Hm, wonder if there's an IP that would involve these things that could be interesting to see on the tabletop...
>>98679005Yes, and? Primaris are also too big.
>>98679118They're fine.
>>98679126I used to think Warhammer heroics were the tits. Then I held a LOTRSBG figure and knew this was where I belonged. Fireforge is as big I like them now.

>>98679126Not for me. If a model of the basic 5-10 dudes squad don't fit on a 25mm base then I am not interested in your game.

>>98679225Wtf, at least call me a faggot.
>>98679235
>>98679185Might as well share some of my wips. Yeah, chunkier figures can be fun to paint.
>>98679005Primaris makes a mockery of the "approximate 1 inch cube" scale of wargaming.
>>98679285I like painting all different scales, but larger is definitely easier imo>>98679303Frankly, I don't care. If I have a good time with a game, that's all that matters. If I don't, then I don't play that game. Classic and modern conventions matter little when compared to the ultimate goal, having fun.
>>98677564>How do you display your miniatures?I've got a display case and a china cabinet. I am wait to add more space until after a move
>>98679509I like your big Skellibaba
So is WGA not releasing new orcs anytime soon? They released the 3d print ones and the epic battle scale ones. I assumed they would release some new 28mm plastic kits. They seem to release such random shit.
>>98677564>>TQ
Frostgrave this week ended up as a 1v1, I onboarded a new guy who borrowed my Necromancer warband. He learned his lesson about sending his wizard into combat and escaped with two treasures.
>>98680840Also, the dungeon board is coming along well
I just realized something. Wouldn't it be possible to kitbash the warring states kits with the dark age kits? Like, you want unarmored cavalry just give them weapons and heads and there you go. >>98680842Sweet.
>>98680848Probably, yeah. Historians might notice oddities, but I doubt most people would. If you're doing it for fantasy stuff, no issue at all.
Suh dudesI ordered these slave girl miniatures to use as objective markers for blood and plunder. However I want it to be gender equal and have hunky male slaves to go along with them (it's 2026 chud)I really can't find a fucking thing, especially in heroic scale. Any help?
>>98680842Proonted?
>>98681041Fuck off fag
>>98680608Orcs were not included in this year's releases.
>>98681079Literally not a single interesting kit
>>98680848No-one is stopping you, WGA tries to make their kits cross-compatible across ranges. I thought of kitbashing their late Romans in squamata with the warring states.
>>98681061The slaves are clearly for my boyfriend (bottom) and not me (top)Check yourself
>>98681082I disagree. UAMC hardsuits, gladiators, warring states cavalry, mutation sprues, hussars and sturmtruppen are all interesting to me. I wonder if the sturmtruppen are an expansion of the marcher range or if they are for WWI though.
>>98680840Comfy board. You did put me in a jolly spirit.
Bros, I wish I had started this hobby with 15mm instead of 28mm. Thinking about switching for sci-fi games, but I have so many 28mm terrain and minis already.

>>98681325I sold my pile of shame and did just that.
>>98681413I think I'll get three more skirmish teams, the usual 10 minis type, in 28mm, and that's it for me.

>>98682346Look for >mini dried flowers on your euro equvilant of amazon. 300 of them are less than $10 in rural leafistan. Lots of ways to get grass tufts, either cutting up a used door mat or getting a variety pack of disposable house painting brushes. Tape the base where you want to cut and you've got tufts.
>>98681933>defeatYou won a battle but not the war, a man who has been dead nigh on a century is still your greatest enemy.

I like how apparently these have been done since like March.Doesn't look like unarmore cavalry will be a thing, so Mongol horsemen for northern auxiliaries will be a great boon. Or dark age horsemen with Chinese heads as "local levies".The sad thing is, I'm just gonna paint them like Wei troops out of DW.

>>98683342It's some of Ana's stuff https://gardensofhecate.com/projects-gallery/miniature/undead-armyShe does a shitload of conversions and sculpting, not unlike our own Behelit-anon. Ramshackle carries some of her models, and IIRC there are a couple other stores that have her other stuff scattered around. There are close-ups in the gallery and the article (check the "undead" tag), there's a lot of modded old GW models in there.

I like a lot of Alternative Armies sci-fi stuff, both their inherited ranges and their own
I'm considering switching to mdf bases for future projects but I hear that it can warp. Would 2mm thick mdf bases from around 25mm up to 120mm be okay, or might they be liable to warp?

>>98688429>but I heard the owner is racist...I knew there was a reason I felt good about buying from him
Why might small blue collar artisan manufactures have opinions against neoliberalism that ships their work half way across the world and replaces creative roles with cheap import workers?
>>98688482Why would anyone give a shit about some boomer's Facebook post he put in the wrong website?
>>98688450Paying any attention to the personal political views of any creative, regardless of medium or ideological whateverthefuck is always a terrible idea. Bad idea, direct path to realizing they're fucking retarded.
>>98688429Funny enough I actually found out about the brand when some godawful discord server I was in started shitting and pissing about the creator. Not my scene but I know some of the hipsters post on here. Anyway, Matt Ross aka Smashbash aka @totally_not_panicking hasn't been paying people for the collaboration miniatures he's responsible for selling, to the point people like Miscast Trent has had to take loans out to pay the rent. Scummy

>>98689021Yeah I've been watching my Instagram blow up over this shit since last night. I'm the guy who posted >>98688719 as well so I'll say it again. The "28" hobby scene, God bless them, I like their models, I like their events, I like their whole approach to the hobby... But it's ALWAYS fucking some new drama. Like actual soap opera shit where you roll your eyes hard enough to hurt yourself. Remember last year in Nottingham where your same guy - poor Trent, plus Ramshackle Curtis, were getting fucked over by that landlord who's dating Roguehobbies. And that was a whole week of shitrain that went nowhere. Same people had this weird struggle session thing a month or so ago where you had to get mad at Grimdark Compendium because they'd reposted some right-wing guy's models on their channel. Like who fucking cares? At least when a former friend starts fucking you over financially that's a genuine reason to be mad, so props to them for having a real grievance this time. It's just that the amount of drama they stir up, overall, leads me to keep the whole scene at arm's length.
>>98689237Yeah agreed, and like many small scenes people are either knobs who take advantage of others, or start thinking they're a celebrity.See what SPRU kicks up. There were 150 tickets left the last time I looked, no idea what capacity is, big venue for such a show so hopefully that means they've sold like 500 or something. There was some silly drama there too with Department of Wargaming dropping out.
>>98689237>tldr artsy fartsy types in a small niche clic get into drama with eachother constantly.Color me shocked. These type of people were always like that but it's gotten way worse with social media.

>>98690975>why does everyone keep copying the thing that sells the most by a huge marginA mystery for the ages.If anything I have to wonder why there aren't more plastic kits of power armoured dudes. >>98690975>Why do people in a market ape the most successful member of said marketMoney.Like how that Martyrdom game is looking to be Warhammer Ancient Battles again but based to match Old World. Personally, the fact it's not multiples of 25mm like in Oathmark ruffles my feathers the wrong way.

So what are you currently working on lads? I'm working on armour for these reaper wolf demons, but haven't decided if the more ornate armour plates are better than the more plain ones. The former have the problem of being a lot chunkier than the latter. But this might be an issue of me spending too much time at looking at these models up close.I've also heard that reaper bones don't take kindly to primer. I washed the model in warm water and dishwasher soap before I started gluing any bits on. Will this help the primer stick better?

>>98690975Biggest problem is to get attention for your system and cater to the common taste of customers. If you are too different or unique, people dislike your designs = no sales. If you ape GW and are cheaper than it is possible people buy it as stand-ins = more sales.
Fresh battle today, the Imperial forces under Golfric, cavalry elements reformed, are ambushed on the march by Snazzgits remaining forces. I rolled for element recovery, 3+ for Goblins, 4+ for Orcs, 5+ for trolls and knights. In the end Snazzgit was only able to recover one element of goblins and the lost wolf chariots, whilst Golfric recovered both knights.Snazzgit sprung his ambush as the column entered the gap between the hills. The initial rush did well, the Goblins destroying the lead knight element and the wolf chariots destroying the Imperial handgunners, but the tide began to turn and although they managed to destroy a spear element, the Imperial column formed up and destroyed the Goblin forces. Only Snazzgit escaped.
>>98691532Yeah somebody from LAF was asking this.Usually you'd get an answer within the hour, but this got everybody stumped, to the point that I'm very curious too. I figured this would be a good place to ask.

>there is no evidence of it affecting salesIt's funny because whilst I can't say it's a fall in sales for certain, they only have to file micro-accounts with Companies House, but their "current assets" have absolutely collapsed in 2025 with a big loan or something too. Interesting.Alector Ltd is the company behind AA
>>98692236I don't know when they posted the things, also I can imagine many things possibly fucking over UK businesses at this point, especially the metal mini makers.
>>98692266Indeed, could basically be pewter costs as it's not a loan over more than a year. But only having about 3k of liquidity isn't good.
>>98692336Shame, but makes sense. For example I would've bought stuff from them already too, but there were simply cheaper alternatives to satiate my mini needs at the time.
>>98689503I think it's really good, except for melee.
>>98682346What are you looking at?I did my LotR minis with a similar idea in mind. Regular meadow with the odd flower for the good guys here and there.I put down a 3mm grass flock base layer first before adding some tufts and some woodland scenics flock for variety. Loose flock is way cheaper than tufts and can do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of layering textures for you.The trick is to look at railway modelling supplies and not wargaming supplies though (like in ye olden days when that was the only thing you could buy when building tables etc. These days there is a small cottage industry around selling smaller badges of stuff to wargamers for marked up prices). You can get big boxes of tufts for around 20 bucks from mininatur.de for example. Big means "ca 42x15cm 305,50 / m2" sheets of plastic filled with tufts. Those sizes are meant for railway layouts and you can easily do 100-200 miniature bases with those. They also sell the colored flock for flowers by itself in little baggies for about ~5 bucks. So you can just use regular tufts and apply a bit of pva with a brush over the tips of your bushels and add the blooms by hand. Depending on the look you are after that might be a good alternative to buying premade tufts as well.
>>98678787Cloth Goblins for Forbidden Psalm has three simple scenarios where you collect wood, build a fort and defend it. It's really barebones which is kind of the point but you could always add to it.
>>98678787A lot of campaign based games have elements of that - mostly as an upkeep type of mechanic between the scenarios being played though.OG Necromunda had you manage territories, Some supplements for Frostgrave 1st edition allowed you to buy hideouts and equip them with room allowing you to take more men, brew potions etc.Base defense as part of the game would be basically any mission/scnerio with an attacker and defender, which most wargames do have on some level. It just doesn't tie into an in-game economy like with an RTS. It's really beyond the scope of what you can model in a single mission I suppose. You are dipping into territory of grand strategy games with that sort of stuff. Risk or any hex and chit type game I suppose.

The heroes and the king on the throne are very cool miniatures. The ones with the hand cannons do intrigue meThe axe warriors are fairly generic.I don't care for the golems.I honestly don't understand who the target demographic is for the female dwarfs. Once you're comfortable with it you can change or replace rules if you want more crunch or the like, or move on.

>>98703381Nordic Weasel has a bunch of 40k model agnostic games. They tend towards arbitrated play and lighter rules more towards the rogue trader/2nd edition era with variations on how cleaned up the rules are and scale. Renegade Scout is a direct RT retroclone if you want granularity. Haven't even looked at Shoot People In Space but its supposed to be squad vas squad skirmish size. Warbands even. Squad and Rogue Hammer are platoon scale engagements, there's a fellow with purple marines here who was really into it. Laser Storm is the Epic scale one. There's probably more, guy was cranking them out for a while. Long enough people have weasel fatigue, I haven't even gotten to the 5 parsecs stuff that's RT inspired but deviated a lot and gone through 3 or 4 editions depending on how you want to count them.
>>98699705>GW miniatures on the secondary market have seen a steady price increaseI couldn't disagree more. >>98703381>>98703406>you can try xenos rampant which is 40k with more of a rick priestley design philosophyThis is horse shit, XR is bad.
>>98704529Because?
I've been looking at XR. I wanted to make a regular sci-fi human army and a space bugs army, but it's not really clear to me why there is a bunch of Xenomporh stat profiles. I could mostly do the same with the usual infantry-elite-berserker etc
>>98704607They're the greater and lesser warbeasts from dragon rampant. They don't get firefight reactions, but they're a lot faster than other units.
>>98704576It's practically impossible to kill something without needing your entire force focusing on them, it falls apart at higher point limits, the rules themselves are bland and uninspired, the game is hailed as a mini agnostic gem, that's all it does well, be miniature agnostic.
>>98704627Fair points, but I think you can easily solve the lethality issue.
>>98704658The fact remains that I shouldn't need to solve a problem. That problem should have been ironed out LONG before the book went to publishing. The mini agnostic lovers out there tend to love games that aren't lethal, or that force you to make enemies flee the board. That way, they can tell "any stories they want to, with any minis they want to" and that is, imo, a weakness. Games, mini agnostic or not, should be machines to drive narratives that exist within a certain framework. if I deploy several Reduced Model Units to represent how elite they are, then they should be somewhat akin to the 11th edition Custodes that were just revealed for 40K. There should be 3 of them in a squad, they should have a high armour save and they should have enough wounds to make them hard to remove. But instead, in XR, a Reduced Models Unit is just as dangerous as a squad of 12 soldiers that are armed to the teeth. The damage works out the same, you chip away at each others health (wounds) very slowly and, if you're lucky, you can make them flee, throw down their weapons or otherwise surrender and get removed from the table. At least with OPR, loath to admit it though I may be, units are a danger to each other and can scale in survivability and lethality with the use of keywords like Tough and Deadly.I bought the XR rulebook, and I've played (I think) 8-ish games. It's a failed experiment, people here who constantly bring it up as a go-to for Warhammer refugees have seemingly not played it and just recycle other anons opinions on the matter.Sorry if this came across as a rant.
>>98704658You could for example use the 12/6 dice split from other rampants. Makes shooting a lot deadlier. I've a house rule upgrade that allows for +1 to hit for shooting and firefights as well. But in general I like the way units are worn down over time in XR. I'll have to think of a vehicle damage system to allow for quicker destruction of tanks and the like. Another idea I played with was area effect weapons, where the initial target is hit with the regular shoot value and special rules, while units within X inches are hit on a 5+.
>>98704709>The fact remains that I shouldn't need to solve a problem.>and that is, imo, a weakness.Even you admit it's a problem for you, it is not to your taste. Have you considered that others like it the way it is?Also I really don't get the mentality of being upset about something wrong when you could easily just solve the problem and continue enjoying the thing. (Well, not you, because you think the rules are bland too and want to play with bigger armies)
>>98704627>It's practically impossible to kill something without needing your entire force focusing on themThat's a good thing. High lethality means you spend all your time taking your toys off the table instead of playing with them and exacerbates first mover advantage.
>>98704709I don't mind the ranting, it's good that we disagree and argue about the merits of different game system. It's true that opr is a lot deadlier and has a bit more granularity because it was explicitly intended for 40k refugees. However, it also has it's balance validation restrictions. I think tough (6) units can only cause like 8 hits a turn at max. Correct me if I'm wrong. You can scale the survivability of units in XR too with upgrades like boarding shield, force fields, combat medic and some others. But your issue seems to be the lack of offensive upgrades, that lead to slow slugging matches?
>>98704744>Have you considered that others like it the way it is?I have, and for love nor money I cannot get along with that mentality.>>98704746>High lethality means you spend all your time taking your toys off the table instead of playing with themHigh lethality means you play more intelligently with your models and every model removed, from your side or the opponents, is a move considered and made to a logical conclusion.>>98704760> I think tough (6) units can only cause like 8 hits a turn at max.I honestly don't recall that being the case, but I could 100% be wrong. My issue isn't so much the lack of offensive upgrades, moreso that irrespective of upgrade taken (defensive or offensive) all army lists are remarkably low power.

>>98704840Don't be simple on purpose anon. It's unbecoming.
>>98704881The counter to that is that Warhammer fucking sucks shit so high lethality games had better be granular man to man skirmish titles.Otherwise I'm having formations of dudes advance and not wasting time removing each Pierre or Hans as they clash in Verdunn.
>>98704840You are right. Retarded move will be a retarded move no matter if it kills you in a turn or in three.
I also thought Xenos Rampant was a bit poo but when I said so I got dogpiled.
I read Dragon Rampant and liked the customization rules for units but found the actual combat rules lacking. Oathmark has a similar problem, kingdom rules are cool but core gameplay mechanics need work. Getting my fantasy itch scratched by Frostgrave right now while I keep an eye out for one that can handle actual battlds in 28mm well.
Is this dragon rampant revisionism? Or is anon right, were you all just recommending it because you had seen others recommend it?
>>98705673Given how few games get played here, it was probably option 2. But just because I didn't like it doesn't mean it's intrinsically bad.
>>98704221what the fuck does attack dice have to do with order systems?
>>98705673>Is this dragon rampant revisionism? In a sense? xenos rampant's rules core is pretty heavily revised from its predecessor
I’m thinking of getting into bolt action. What do I need to know?
>>98705951I personally don't like it. I played a good chunk in 2E in the late 2010s with a Finnish army, sold them, and started a British army when 3E came out. 3E is a major step down, it's both less historical and less fun to play. The only good change is the listbuilding. On the recommendation of /hwg/ I tried Chain of Command, but it was also bad fir different reasons.
>>98705951Dont get wrapped up in how "gamey" it is, its basically warhammer with historical models and not a true hist game. Also automatic weapons are kindof shit, dont fall into the trap of taking a lot of them when seeing their stats, the range cut off isnt worth it. Basically just have a squad who you intend to rush around and give them more than other groups and give everyone else rifles and veteran status or MGs.>>98705982Yea the gamey part kindof ruins it, its great if you like historical models though, its just an excuse to use them.
>>98705982>>98706006Is there a good ww2 tabletop game?
>>98706006>not a true hist game.None of them are, battles aren't predetermined because "well irl the british won this battle, so you lose"
>>98706149Try Disposable Heroes, Fireball Forward, Crossfire.
>>98706196Exactly, so its not that big of an issue. If you want actual historical games you are almost exclusively going to be playing scenario based stuff and not 28mm. Bolt Action is a cool way to play a tabletop game that has the aesthetics of WW2.
>>98684859What stupid looking models.
>>98706401Lol, I'm not the anon asking, though the response may have been useful to that anon, I was just inserting my smart-ass "well akshually" because my limited experience with historical players is they like to jerk off over their realism but they always fall short of actually following the history (because that'd be no fun) making it all a rather moot point.Which is probably why Bolt Action is the name I always hear/see.
Got a giant undead worm (mostly) painted up.
>>98705462because you guys usually say it's shit and then list mostly subjective reasons
>>98705862The little red arrows and numbers link the previous parts of the conversation newfagkun.
>>98700697Pendraken is great for 10mm
Anyone got experience with scaling down opr miniatures to about 10mm ?
>>98707199huh turns out Reaper gave this thing more teeth
>>98707701yeah, the parts turn too thin to be usable. The lowest I've gotten them is 15mm and even then they are super fragile. for 10mm they need some resculpting/thickening.
>>98708530>>98708530>>98708530
>>98708534>if you know you know
