I've started going after the slowest player on principle. Making a deck around a card is hard when you're working at room temp iq.I want to make a deck that finds Caltrops then copies them one billion times or poison them with deathtouch counters with ways to move those to artifacts or animating them to be able to be valid targets but I'm so dogshit at deckbuilding.It's obviously going to be a control deck but I don't know shit about control.I think Esper is the correct idea but I don't know about the commander.I could use any effect that reduces toughness to increase the effectiveness of caltrops and finally win without attacking with Exsanguinate-like effects. Slightly more practical is trying to mutate Insatiable Hemophage onto an animated Caltrops, which will still remain mutated when it goes back to a normal artifact. And then, any additional clones or copies will clone the full mutated card, helping to insulate against removal.Blue/Black should be able to pull this off. The high CMC on the ability helps combat untap bullshit though it's breakable. the 3c 4 CMC line is pretty overdone at this point. It fits in without being completely irritating. A lot of players will just vamp tutor for reconnaissance which I think is becoming as played out for Mardu as Chord of Calling for Hoof.

I think you just need to go 1 or 2 color and find a commander that synergizes with chaff and accept that you're not going to have the expensive stapleslike tpro -- most decks would like to have it but it's not like a deck doesn't work when it doesn't draw tpro, it's just nice to have.also only green has good cheap ramp so you probably want a low mv commander unless you're in green.

It has protection and removal spells, a commander with some sort of protection and enough multicolored spells to trigger his ability His draw engines are pretty solid and keeps my hand with cards for more answers.It's not that expensive either since boros cards are normally cheap as fuck.
