I think I’m done playing this game not at a store. Just had an argument over one player chunck shuffling who works as a dealer at a casino and when I called it out that he should be interweaving when shuffling I was then the rules lawyers. Then an incident with the same player happens that same game when their mother of machines was out and they cast 8 spells and I resolved my amphibian downpour and they argued its ability didn’t trigger from Norns passive I even looked it up and showed them and they said that’s not how they play. Just scooped there and am told them if they can’t play by the rules then what’s the point in playing. Not only that they were previously looking up my cards for legal interaction and arguing my fetchlands where not a legal color identity for my deck, Is this what kitchen table magic has turned into?
>>98818941>Is this what kitchen table magic has turned into? No, it was always this bad. Why do you think sacrifice effects specify "of their choice" and Stifle specifies you can't counter mana abilities? Because the average player doesn't read the rules and nothing stops them over tabletop. This is compounded by how tournament policy supports this with "If your opponent doesn't catch it, you get away with it" which led to a culture of angleshooting and lying to your opponent. 60-card right now is in the middle of a scandal where players are being forced to manually count every single card in their opponent's deck before every game because if the game starts, it's considered THEIR fault if their opponent is running less than 60 and now people are doing it to side in Urza's Saga targets only after it ticks up to 2 because the penalty is "warning" if the game already started.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>98818941I once lost a modern tournament because my opponent and the LGS owner both said that giving hexproof after someone casts the spell targeting the creature doesn't stop the spell from affecting the creature. That store has closed down since then. Good riddance.
>>98818806Do they deck check every card or what? Just do it pussy
>>98819011My friend was banned from an LGS for proxying a deck. They do indeed check your cards sometimes. He did buy an outrageous number of cards like dual lands and shit. I warned him that Zheng's proxies vary wildly in quality but he didn't listen. Don't take advice from 4chan kids.

>>98819042Why is it that CEDH is okay with proxies but the more casual brackets aren't?
>>98818941>>98819003Probably one of the most discouraging events to happen to me in magic in awhile. Used to play modern a lot up until 2020 and was invited by friend to play some “casual” commander and I haven’t ever really played this format. Pretty much a turn off for playing with that group if their selective enforcement is just for who the normally play with. And yeah I can see where your description of them of “ if no one catches it I’ll be fine” but the blatant cheat shuffle and then house ruling over official rules just because you don’t want to lose is crazy. It’s just a game and if we are playing at different understandings of rules then what’s the fuck are we playing exactly how am I supposed to know. Such a fucking autist why do I care

>>98819280I agree! Everyone should play Nick Fury TM, superstar card of Marvel (R) Superheroes TM! The format's way better when your commander exists just for colors.
>>98819339He's not just for colors he's also for enabling broken garbage like the free ikoria spells.
>>98819347Well you see controlling your commander is REALLY hard because the format as intended has them being dead 99% of game, so we need cards like 0 mana Negate or Past In Flames + Wheel of Fortune on one card, otherwise there would be no reason to play your commander!
Storm is the absolute coolest shit but only if you do it with something simple, powerful and effective, like a Grapeshot right at the end of a chaotic round of 4 players throwing down spells
>>98819339No, you should be able to win with out your commander at the very least have a few backup win cons

Anything that beats my deck is against the spirit of the format, simple as
>>98819406Lots of small things that add up to make him better than pretty much any other commander.>Flexible colors>Enables lots of poorly-designed cards that produce way more value than they should if your commander is alive>Guarantees access to sac fodder (can mean 2 extra cards or 4 mana on turn 1)>Very noncommittal, opponents go negative when removing it while you lose nothing>Doesn't require your 99 to be built around him basically at all (contrasting cards like Kinnan, Sisay, or Magda where if you lock the commander they lose). The only ones really on his level are 4c partner pairs (similar reasons, but better colors and more easy value in exchange for more mana committment). Nick Fury is also unironically quickly reaching this level being only 1 mana and 5 colors.
>>98819430i'm indifferent to whether karakas actually gets unbanned, i'm just telling you why it's very unlikely for wotc to unban itthough if karakas does get unbanned i'd like an uncounterable infinite turns in my casual pods

/tg/ i need your help. I've got an awful idea. A retarded idea, even. Basically, the plan is as follows:>homer the hermit as commander>deck is full of lobsters and crabs>rest of the deck is full of cards that turn creatures into foods, like witch's oven and bake into a pieGonna call the deck "seafood boil". Only question is, how do i find the cards needed to turn stuff into food?
>>98818509they mean in terms of deckbuildinga deck wants to have X number of lands in it, so then the question becomes, if you have certain cards like Sol Ring, does that number go down (imo yes)but I think it becomes much less clear when your deck has multiple colors, or if you're trying to cast your commander ASAP if your commander has less than {2} in its mana cost. since Sol Ring adds no colored mana it won't actually curve out your commander faster. if it's Isshin or Baylen for instance you could end up having to mulligan a hand where a land would have let you keep it.personally I treat cards like Generous Ent as a tap land, and cards like Bushwhack, which require colored mana, as 1/x lands where x is the number of colors of my deck (it's only a land when I have green mana)
Bracket 2 deck coming along nicely

>>98820972Not anymore, but i'd advise against cards that are 1. Easily removable and 2. Immediate targets. Like I said, you want kambal and your creatures to never really pose a threat, but you want to make other people more threatening. Master of ceremonies, or gonti, night minister are really good at doing that, since people will want to hit other people, especially if your spells are small and help other people more than you at first glance. Throw in some cards that care about artifacts dying for more value and you can start to really drain people.

Should I proxy a cEDH deck at some point? And if so which one would (you) recommend to someone who plays mostly aggressive and midrange decks in ohter formats?
>>98821275You might have fun, proxying a deck takes me forever so depends on how fast you are at cutting out cards and how good of a printer you use.I personally liked cedh for a while and then fell off around partners, it can be interesting to see whats possible in the format but it doesnt really feel much like MTG, even for someone who likes edh.

My interpretation of the wording of the legend rule would be that it isn't a sacrifice effect since that word isn't used, but would still trigger 'dies' triggers, as 'dies' is simply short for 'put into a graveyard from the battlefield'. Am I correct?
>>98821275Aggro = turbo grixis thoracle turn 2 win. Think Oops all spells in legacy. How would I do a viable vanilla creatures Jasmine deck?
>>98821883lots of testing
>>98821883Play B2 and still get your ass kicked a lot. You need to support vanilla with things that don't give them abilities while still finding ways to ramp, card draw, interact, ect... But you can't depend on your vanilla creatures to do any of that shit so you end up with a lot of non-vanilla creatures or other cards which makes it even harder to put vanilla creatures in it.And then someone snipes Jasmine or the fact that every other deck can shit out tokens for no reason and all your vanilla creatures still get blocked anyway. I still use her though.

It feels like what they should be is creatures with relatively bad statlines (0/1 plant, 1/4 Warrior, 2/1 Merfolk) but decent abilities, which then become more impressive when used as Masks by link. >>98820629it was really funny to me to see all the seethe for the drop today. i woke up, realized it was drop day, loaded up the site, loaded up my cart, got in prequeue, then checked out less than 20 minutes after the sale started. only saw the complaints after the fact, all the while laughing at the fact that i got everything i wanted. can't wait to play with those artifact lands, baby.
>>98824855They do the same in Europe and Canada.
>>98824882Same. I was in and done in 25 minutes and had no problems. I didn't buy the lands though because I'm not paying 40 dollars for that.

>>98824894>I didn't buy the lands though because I'm not paying 40 dollars for that.true, a bunch of the OG artifact lands will cost you less than 10 bucks, but the last lair they did with them (called mirrodinsanity, literally the same 5 lands with some pixel art) ended up being extremely lucrative. the cheapest of those, tree of tales, goes for like 15 USD. it was just a smart buy, even if you aren't planning to play with them. i have a breya deck that uses them and i love the art, so i got one for that. the other 3 i ordered was to sit on.
>cast bolt>have a card that says "deals that much damage plus 2 instead">have another card that says "deals that much damage plus 1 instead"So how much damage would bolt do?
