At the LGS I witnessed brown stains on around 70% of the chairs, here it seems to be the strange conversation coercion where certain subjects are off limits and only the most bizarre and unhinged are enforcing it and most of them have nomodels.
>>98826235>TQHaven't seen anything yet at the LGS. But I am probably the weirdest autist in the Warhammer 40k side because I think I would be as I'm socially inept and use this website. I am afraid of getting too excited enjoying Warhammer 40k at the LGS and then sperging out and coming across as annoying.>>98826244You gotta give us more details. This is horrifying yet beautiful.
>TQThe weirdest thing I've seen is some dude continue to infest a community that doesn't want him after being banned 200+ times
>>98826277it's probably around 300 now
>>98826235>and of the online Warhammer 40k fandomrecently seeing people on X cry about Nids having no characters and dumbfucks wanting to turn Tyranids into ZergThere's a reason Zerg is shit and boring compared to Tyranids. They're supposed to be aliens, making them more human defeats the purpose
>>98826321Zerg is aight kerrigan is pretty cringe though just because of the Raynor ex angle
>>98826321Yeah that's always been weird to me. People cry that Nids are the NPC faction, but isn't that the point?
>>98826329Zerg were better off before Kerrigan being some human voice for them>>98826332Nids are the army for people who like ants and bees and want to play them. Giving them characters and more humanity defeats the entire purpose of the faction
>>98826277It really boggles the mind. Being chased off from all forums... I wonder if the collage was promised to him 3000 years ago?
>>98826321>making them more human defeats the purposeShouldn’t you bitch about gsc then?

>>98826235>they’re just like me
>>98826361NTA, but a different purpose and intent.GSC are humans turned alien from top to bottom. They are not the human voice of the nids, just more victims.
>>98826235>TQ Knew a guy at my old LGS, let’s call him Timmy. I knew Timmy from around 2013 to 2017. Timmy played the gusted. Timmy had an amazing army of Guards. Amazingly painted, each modeled uniquely, not a single one wasn’t unique from its brothers. He even named them all. On the base of reach was written Pvt. Heaton, and Spc. Long, and Sgt. Fulton, and a dozen other names. It was an amazing army. But Timmy had this weird habit. Sometimes, in the middle of a match he would start crying. Not sobbing, not screaming, just a few tears down his face. He’d normally excuse himself to the bathroom before anyone would see, bird I noticed. And there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to his crying. Sometimes he’d lose half his army and be laughing the whole time. Another time he would lose barely a couple troopers and tear up, it made no sense. Anyways, I got to know Timmy. We became friends once we figured out we had both been in the Army. We’d go out for drinks. And one day I finally work up the courage to ask about the crying. He was embarrassed, of course, but since we were both vets he told me the truth. He had named every unit he had after someone he had served with in Iraq. He did multiple tours over 2006-2010 and had served at the height of The Surge. The vast majority of his army were people who had survived. The three who didn’t were the ones he’d cry over. If one of those there died, he couldn’t help but cry. I was obviously flabbergasted. I told him that this wasn’t healthy, that he shouldn’t doing this, that he should be doing some form of therapy. But he just smiled at me and said that 40k was his form of therapy. That even when Pvt X died on the table, he’d come back for the next game.Timmy moved away in 2017 and we didn’t keep in touch, which I greatly regret. I still keep a lookout in online battle reports for some Imperial Guard units with names on their base, hoping I recognize a name and can talk to Timmy again.

So everything points towards me picking up the new custodes combat patrol when it releases next saturday. I mainly paint and play mesbg or older fantasy editions, I've never played 40k and only know about eldar, which was my second option, so I have no idea whether to build the guards with sword and shield or spears. I've read and watched a few videos but it seems to be a split decision between both. I guess the question is am I ever going to need 6 of one specific version? Should I magnetize? And on the same topic, how easy to magnetize is the dreadnought? TIA

But then you'll have to remember which is which so you're not accused of cheating. That, or you'll have to buy more models to cover all build options you want to play. Me personally, I magnetize because I make use of all plastic I buy. Infantry magnetization isn't hard, it's just tedious. Pick a polarity direction and STICK TO IT FOR ALL MODELS. Same polarity for horizontal directions, same polarity for vertical directions. You'll never have an issue with weapons attaching because trust me, getting those small disc magnets out after you super glued them into place is a real pain. I have been looking at kitbashes and different paint jobs for the AoS/40k demon prince. It is really hard to decide on a faction or paint scheme to go for; this kit has so much potential. I have some Chaos Knights armiger weapon bits coming in alongside a NoS demon prince. For example, pic rel looks so damn nice; the jetpack conversion of the backpack fits really well. What I am saying is, shill me on CSM factions, I guess.
>>98827292Obviously a lot of X vs. Tyranids books don't lean into this sufficiently, but the thing about squaring up against them is that you aren't fighting a CSM warband that you can inflict meaningful losses on and potentially cripple them as an effective fighting force, or whatever, you're essentially a bug fighting against somebody's thumb coming down to crush you, and the best you can hope for is to give it a wicked bad papercut that momentarily dissuades it. Having named characters outside of white whales like Old One Eye or having the bioforms needing to communicate with each other on a squad level would diminish them.
>>98827362Demons are lame, nids are cool, it's not about the mystery or the scariness, you're doing that all on your own, and you're missing the point, which is straightforward sci fi action with no dramatic bullshit or other nonsense. >>98828180Why is spider jerusalem fighting a bunch of harlequins?

The real answer to the Cadian question is to just make every new AM infantry release be from a different regiment, like these guys are Vostroyans, these guys are Arkhans, these guys are Tallarns, etc. and anybody who wants their army to be cohesive can just suck it up buttercup with kitbashing, 3D prints, etc. until GW gets with the times like the old men they are and sets up a well-ventilated warehouse full of resin printers cranking out dudes on demand for people willing to pay a premium for the convenience of not just playing Bolt Action like they clearly want to
>>98828216Okay but what about actually just making the whole army have a cohesive aesthetic by default instead so they don't look like a bunch of random anachronistic soldiers from different historical eras standing side-by-side?
>>98828225why would you want anything but a bunch of random anachronistic soldiers from different historical eras standing side-by-side?
>>98828216>for the convenience of not just playing Bolt Action like they clearly want toTrust me, if I could find as many people willing to *TRY* Bolt Action or K47, I'd be playing those more often than I play 40k. Infantry aren't a waste of points over there like they are in the guard.People by-and-large are just not willing to go out of their comfort zones to new rules and new games, so 40k became the compromise option.
>>98828225It was my impression that having Mongol barbarians and Confederate good ol' boys doing combined infantry stuff with tanks and laser rifles against incomprehensible horrors from Space Hell was the whole point of Guard as a faction

>>98828216Darktide unironically did right with their fomo slop shop, because they rotate through different regiment cosmetics and the result is a bunch of different looking vets. GW should've just gone>here's a kill team for X regiment>and here's the corresponding upgrade sprue, go nuts!If they had done that at the start of KT there'd be like 3 or 4 regiments in GW plastic by now.
>>98828231>Infantry aren't a waste of points over there like they are in the guard.I've heard enough horror stories (for the other person) about, e.g., the 180 Poxwalkers meme list to know that, like comrade Stalin said, quantity has a quality all its own. I'm sure that Guard has some application for heaps of bodies clogging up the midboard and preventing your opp from doing anything.
>>98828242nobody buys upgrade sprues, they make the cost of every unit too high
>>98828234This is correct. My favourite parts of guard novels are when two regiments work together and clash with cultural differences.
>>98828250Speak for yourself, poorfag. I have bought multiple upgrade sprues before, I have also bought two boxes to kitbash for one unit. People do it out of necessity for niche factions they love, and because they have the funds.
>>98828242Don't even need the upgrade sprue; there are plenty of Night Lords enjoyers who've bought multiple copies of the Nemesis Claw KT despite only playing 40k
>>98828248The problem with throwing bodies on-field is that it's too easy to kill them. A unit of 26 guardsmen (the largest you can get) can be killed outright by 10 infernus marines, because those 10 infernus marines have 35 attacks (3x10=30, blast 1 on a unit of 26 gives 5 extra dice, 30+5=35) that auto-hit because they have torrent. Guardsmen save on 5+, the chance of 25/35 attacks going through is 34% before counting cover and other modifiers to the diceroll, and that's also ignoring attacks from other units finishing the job. That 26-man squad costs 260 points. The 10-man infernus costs 190.Also cost, that's the bigger concern. A unit of 20 guardsmen costs the same or more than 4/7 Leman Russ variants, so why would I not just bring a Russ instead? The Russ is t11w13 and has a weapon that can actually contest most enemies.
>>98828256How often does this happen? I read a Krieg novel and there was more "Cadia stands" bullshit in it than Krieg lore. Same shit happened in the Martian trilogy. There's always fucking Cadians infecting everything.
>>98828284Sounds like an internal balance problem that could, theoretically, if they gave a single freshly-squeezed shit, be fixed in the next balance dataslate
>>98828263stop speaking for the majority the majority doesn't buy the upgrades
>>98828284Do the guardsmen kill the marines if they shoot first? Also have you tried screening?
>>98828274I know, I'm buying multiple spectre boxes to make at least two recon squads of Tanith and probably a command squad as well. Upgrade sprues make it so much easier though, particularly for guard where you want to change all the dudes hanging out in their vehicles. The spectre squad for eg. is torso and legs as one cohesive structure, so you'd have to assemble the body together and then cut off the legs to transfer the torso over to a tank crew or HWS guy, while it'd be easier to just have an upgrade sprue with a bunch of torsos and heads. Now me personally, I'm just going to buy some torsos off Victoria minis, and GW has now lost a sale because I would've happily bought a Tanith upgrade sprue alongside a Tanith spectre squad KT.
I ain’t gonna read all that shit so I’ll explain the difference between the Zerg and the Tyranids for those that don’t seem to understand and who don’t want to read 3 hours of bickering. The core difference is the Overmind and the Hivemind. The Overmind is a centralized singular point of control over the Zerg. It has a body that you can point at be say “there it is”, and therefore whatever creature it (first the blob thing then Kerrigan) is is capable of individualism and expression. They do what they want and the swarm obeys. Tyranids do not have such a thing, the Hivemind is a nebulous concept that referred to the interlinked synapses of all Tyranid working together as one. All Tyranids are of the same conscience and mind, you cannot kill the Hivemind without wiping out every single living Tyranid. So there cannot be and never will be and unique Tyranid that has its own individual personality, for it is the same conscience as all the rest. In this same manner a voice piece is similarly unnecessary; it has nothing to say because the Hivemind does not care if you listen or not. And were they ever to begin to do so, you’d best not be fooled.

>>98828324>Retcon for special charactersTechnically they don’t even to. There is room in there for the tyranids to create “named characters”, that while are all still part of the hive mind they express themselves as unique to mess with other cultures. Psychological warfare in other words.>>98828336>Centralized bioformYes and no. They can and do have creatures that function as linking nodes (the synapse creatures) that make up the infrastructure of the network, but there is nothing that functions like the manager of others in a sense of it having an individuality or consciousness that is separate from its subordinates. It’s all one massive neural network that is intrinsically linked. Putting a big part of it in one spot doesn’t change that. There is no “upstream downstream” like the Zerg have, only parallel.
