>>98864331Aside from the contact info, is there any general info on how the secret santa works? ie budget, how many anons participate and so on? I'm always late so I might participate this year
i love how easy these 15mm are to paint but i have to hold myself back not to fill the entire base with tufts and grass
>>98864378>is there any general info on how the secret santa works? You fill out the form. This sends me your contact info, what you wish you would get for Christmas, and what you might gift your giftee. There are other ancillary questions we've added over the years as times and technology have changed regarding things like coomer models and 3D-printed stuff. This all makes it easier for me to match you with someone who seems like a good fit.>budgetI think our original budget around ten years ago was $20US. Nobody has ever stuck to this. However, a lot of anons give gifts that come mostly from their piles of shame to reduce the economic impact (and make room in the closet, I guess), plus it's customary to add snacks and treats that might be regional. If you look at our pastebin, there are links to the imgur galleries for the previous years so you can get an idea of what other anons have sent and received.>how many anons participateWe've surpassed 40 signups already this year. In the biggest years, I swear we've had 100-120.>I'm always late so I might participate this yearLooks like you're on time this year. We'd be glad to have you!
>>98864575Thanks for all the info! I'll fill in the form as soon as I get home
>>98864575I spend $20 on shipping lmao
>>98864322Is there a metallic gold-ish paint that isn't ass shit? I swear to God, it was more frustrating painting this trim with Vallejo Brass than anything else on the model.
>>98865007I heard fusion firm is good but I never tried it myself. you should buy it and test it for everyone here.
One per weekend, ten years or so to go.
>>98865124try painting more instead of just posting the same image over and over
Advice on which miniature seem the most easily to paint
>>98865274 These miniatures
>>98865007TTC Dragons Gold is best gold paint I worked with so far, so maybe give it a try. Also heard good things about Vallejo "true metallic" "imperial gold" but didn't try out yet.
These miniatures
>>98865274Organic monsters. Undead, Tyranids, that sort of thing. They're very forgiving and newb friendly techniques like contrast paints or drybrushing work really well on them.
>>98865321No I mean these goose miniature
>>98865341Which ones of the gooses miniature seem easily, I forgot to put a picture along side these.
>>98865274>>98865291The rogue or knight seem easiest, least amount of hard to reach areasThe trench coat one as a followup
you know the feeling when you open /WIP/ all starry eyed and ready to go only to find /40kg/
Do you think of wall anchors could be used as a basis for sci-fi guns on vehicles, or is that too poor even for poorhammer enthusiasts?
>>98865442there is always the first time and i recall right there was also this old old internet saying about something is something if you are just brave enoughfew years ago i spent a month making this papercraft titan and promised anon i would paint it by christmas but i still havent decided the chapter
i’m calling him done unless I see a mistake before Sunday.2nd time ever painting a competition piece. If I don’t win i’m not responsible for my actions.
Another pretty extensive use of plasticard for me
>>98865725Base needs work (some leaves, broken sticks and a few flower patches would improve it) but other wise it's looks great to me.
>>98865725>If I don’t win i’m not responsible for my actions. If pic related beats you, drop me a line. I'll join you.
>>98865293I can vouch for this one, pretty nice and strong. It’s a soft gold though, kinda white? Ionno how to explain it and don’t have a picture handy. I also use an old Camel gold that’s starting to go but is very strong when applied well
>>98865291Knight goose or wizard goose, especially since wizard has shapes on the cloak
Thought the paint was dry and now I have piss on my snow. glad I didn't batch paint
So there's this stuff that Greenstuff World sells that's like bluestuff/oyamaru, except that you put it in the microwave and it turns into a liquid and lets you get way more accurate molds. Has anyone tried it our and have any impressions?
>>98866196Give it a try and get back to us. I remember an anon did get or try it, but I don't remember what the result was.I have a hard time believing it can stay hot and fluid enough to really get silicone level details of casting. If you haven't used silicone before, the benefit is that it really will seep into every possible detail (minus bubble traps) even though it's thick the surface tension is like zero, and it stays in that state for hours before it starts to cure. The second a warmed up fluid touches anything it's going to cool down and start to block details.I'm sure you can get basic castings you could get with silicone putty though, and in that case reusable is probably fine.if I had to guess, It's probably the best easy option, ranking them flexi-mold > silicone putty > blue stuffin terms of detail, but silicone putty has the distinct disadvantage of being one time use
Getting some work done on my Terminators. There's still a lot further to go.
>>98866235They look pretty good drill your barrels.
>>98865725This is fine for a tabletop piece but for a competition piece I'm not sure it's a winner. I'm talking out of my ass though, never been in a local competition just seen the some entries and they looked considerably more advanced.I like it though. I hope you win something. Or at least lose to a really good model.
Painted some space marines for the first time. Only done orks and catachan before so it was a nice change of pace>>98865530Anon you gotta paint this! It looks great>>98865007Vince's recipe using GSW gold pigments and vallejo metal varnish works very well. Gives you solid coverage in one coat, sometimes two at worst. You can also mix in other golds to alter the tone, or silver for highlights. Not as convenient as a gold straight out of the bottle, but it's honestly fun messing around with
A thin enamel wash followed by matte varnish, and now all she needs is a base.
>>98866466Post the ass.
>>98865530Damn that is impressive papercrafting. I think I'll try the wall anchor gun at some point. I also thought of using connector nuts as some sort of power banks for energy weapons.
>>98866466Yiff in hell, faggot.
>>98866257What kind of drill do you use? I used a jewelry drill for magnetizing years ago, but I found it was more trouble than it's worth.
>>98866506PCB via drill bits are my favorite that I've come across.
>>98866505You're a homo
i drill barrells with the tip of my hobby knifetried pin vice and various bits but didn't prefer itsame motion. don't need to go deep enough to where the blade gets too wideknife requires less pressure and is quicker, in my experienceonly one sliced finger so far
>>98866453Sexy colours on the robes. Purple layered over a dark blue is an inspired choice. What's the recipe?
>>98866505kys
>>98866521>>98866538Not everyone wants to fuck animals.
What the fuck are we talking about?
>>98865530Holy shit that's paper? LolNot bad at allI wonder if dredds are possible
>>98866710 I remember back in the day, /po/ had a bunch of 40k papercraft models and they were shared in /tg/ a few times along with terrain
>>98866718If anon learned to git gud at styrene sheets he could probably make some really cool stuff.
>>98866710>>98866718There was an entire Yahoo group dedicated to designing papercraft 40k stuff, I have some of it archived along with most of Bile's site. It's mostly IG and Marine stuff with a smattering of Eldar, DE, Orks, and TauGF: /d/beqc2Alj(does not contain dolphin porn)
>>98866453thank you anon>>98866489thank you and good luck>>98866710yeah i made a dread too but everyone hated iti havent actually counted but i think i made almost 30 tanks and other papercraft stuff that winter
>>98866196>>98866215I tried it last year or something. I was not very pleased.First of all, it's pretty problematic to use. I was not using microwave but water heating (bain-marie) and it is a pain in the ass to maintain temperature around 80C because apparently 100C and above will damage it. By the way, I recommend to cut out fragments and put into smaller containers, it's much easier that way. Once heated, it behave like honey, so highly viscous, pouring it to avoid bubbles is much harder than advertised, it also cool down rather fast. I would also recommend to buy and use some plumber tape, first try with casting box ended with leaking. I tried using what GSW recommended as casting material, UV resin but apparently Fleximold was not transparent enough since using UV lamp far longer than recommended ended up still with partially liquid parts. Also, repeated use made mold itself lose gloss and transparency, obviously breaking down too. What else I could use instead of UV resin, I don't know. GSW claims that nothing waterbased can be used, since it would apparently leak into mold itself, so this funny acrylic resin in powder is out of option. Miliput or other solid material as well, since mold is flexible like silicone. Other resin types maybe but I didn't want to keep experimenting and buy more and more stuff, not to mention that if I would get two-part resin to pour in, I could as well just use tried and trusted silicone.Only positive I found is that it indeed copy exact shape pretty well. Maybe I would once get back to testing it but I don't have high hopes, especially after finally getting good enough results with blue stuff casting.
