>thread question:
What's the angriest you have ever gotten over 40k?
>>
>>98885279
I don't get angry over 40K but I know a guy who does. Once we are having an ork vs ork battle and on the second turn my killa kanz rockets immobilized his battle wagon carrying his War boss in the middle of the board and he got so angry he literally took off his hat threw it on the ground and stomped on it like a cartoon character. This is way back and 4th edition and he's matured a lot since.
>>
>TQ
When some nazi chud walked into the store with his Krieg army. This definitely happened btw and the game is definitely filled with these types even though there's only one or two cases ever documented.
>>
>>98885279
>TW
not 40k but I used to play AoS at a local gaming store and I'd get salty once in a while. That store was pretty competitive so I would lose every single game and it got to me eventually
>>
>>98885287
b-but I thought all ork players were heckin wholesome chungus???
>>
>>98885279
I've never really gotten angry at any of my own games, but I did catch one of the local guys straight up cheating in a game with a brand new player before and that pissed me off pretty severely. So me and my buddy skipped on playing our game for the night to just watch their game and comment anytime he taught the new guy wrong rules or tried to forget reminding the new guy of his own rules.
>>
>>98885292
40k isn't competitive though.

>What's the angriest you have ever gotten over 40k?
Not me but since 8th and 40k getting more popular I've encounter people that will throw their models into the ground due to a failed charge roll.
It did not happen before and I played way much in older editions than now
>>
>>98885279
>What's the angriest you have ever gotten over 40k?
Head manager threw a melty because we brought in terrain despite previously saying it was ok.
>>
>>98885279
>TQ
I don't really get angry, frustrated sure but not angry
That being said I have made 3 at least 1 person storm out of my LGS in frustration every edition since 7th
GSC is a really good army at that, when you know their rules it feels like cheating
>>
>TQ
Playing 10th edition, after not playing since 5th edition made me crash out hard. This game is terrible now, jesus.
>>
I was wonder why my LGS doesnt really have many proxy and everyone seem to hate proxying and mostly all do WYSIWYG
turn out because the store do competitive tournament every now and then with store credit voucher on the line
and the rule is strictly GT standard with chess clock and everything
no wonder everyone are so sweaty even when playing casual
>>
>>98885324
I fucking hate GSC. Any army that forces you to tailor just to stand a chance shouldn't be in the game.

Back in school (just before 3ed) I'd brought in some space marines to make a diorama (couple of bikes, the old rhino with a guy modelled hanging off the side and a few dudes); my terrain modelling was nothing to speak of and it would have looked shit, but that's beside the point.
I left them in the design technology lab storage room and they got stolen. In hind sight i was always looking in there too see what cool things people were making, so should have thought that other kids might be doing the same and some of them may have sticky fingers.
About 8 months later at the house of a guy who wasn't really my friend (I was with mutuals) and was practically the class retard and he decided to show us "his" warhammer, and there's the old rhino with a guy modelled hanging off the side, 2 bikes and a couple of dudes. I rightly accuse him, but no one can verify the claim, I've no way of leaving and going home and the adults don't care, so I can't cause a big scene... so I had to let it go, and spend the rest of the afternoon in the house of a guy I knew had stolen my stuff and who knew that I knew, and knew that I couldn't do anything about it. Fucking bastard. I was fuming for weeks. I didn't have much in my collection, that rhino was my center piece.

made a 4e marine list, need opinions on it

only 1k, just doing it more for fun than anything
HQ
>captain w/ powerfist, plasma pistol
>command squad w/ apothecary, standard bearer, company champion, 2x plasmaguns

elites:
>dreadnought w/ twin-linked lascannon, venerable, tank hunters

troops:
>10x tacticals w/terminator honours on sgt, powerfist, plasmagun, missile launcher
>10x tacticals w/terminator honours on sgt, powerfist, plasmagun, missile launcher

dedicated transport:
>razorback w/ extra armour
>rhino
>rhino

chapter traits:
>suffer not the alien to live (orks)
>faithful unto death
as i'm crimson fists

comes to a nice 1000/1000pts
I know I lack anti-tank, I could swap out the plasmaguns for meltaguns

im coming from warhammer fantasy and aos, and i've been talked into trying 40k.

i play ogres. thats my main army and i dont plan on changing that. i noticed 40k doesnt really have a true ogre army, but playing around in newrecruit i was able to get about 40 ogryn into a single list.'

is this legal? do you forse this being legal into the future or is it just a fluke of this edition? like i dont want to build something thats the equivalent of a city of sigmar coalition or army of renown thats likely to get scrapped and made illegal when an edition rolls over.

i have pretty much zero interest in the human element of the imperial guard, but the rattlings are kind of fun, so 40 ogres, 30 rattlings and some tanks, along with a few command squads cause i guess you need those to unlock the ogryn HQs. are there any other rules standing in my way on this project like a limit on abhuman to human ratio i didnt see? i dont care if its good on the table or not, i couldnt give 2 shits about actually winning, i just like ogres and smashing things with clubs
>>
fuck off retard
>>
>>98885366
I mean if you are fighting orks usually S4 to 7 is enough to deal with vehicles
>>
>>98885353
It makes pickup games practically impossible. I can't transport all 2500 pts of my Ork army with me to the store to tailor my list.

Inb4 just play casually with friends. I don't have friends, Ive moved 5 times in the last 7 years because of my job. I'm stuck playing pickup games or I don't get any games at all.
>>
>TQ
It's more of a disappointment than angry but when someone brought 3 tanks in a 1000pts crusade game that was supposed to be a chill, fluffy game. The DM shouldn't have allowed it imo, we stopped playing after the 7th game or so for things have gotten out of hand.
>>
>>98885353
no he's right, GSC used to be able to build take all comers lists, but after the nerfs to various bombs and weapons so they could sell the new lascannon psyker, and the new restrictions on which guns can go in which neophyte squads, its much harder to build an army that stands a chance against multiple list types
>>
>>98885377
What it is specifically that playing vs. GSC makes you upset? I'm genuinely curious about it as a player of one.
>>
>>98885380
I think anon is referring to people needing to consider GSC in their own list making.
>>98885377
To be completely honest Pick up games died with 8th and its removal of a proper FOC
older editions you got forced during list building to make a rather rounded army. Marines always fucked up this with their meme bike only army list As a result covering the table in models like GSC or bringing nothing but tanks was not really an option.
>>
>>98885369
You can run 3x 6man Bullgryns and 3x 6man Ogryns as the absolute max. For optimal performance the Bullgryns should have a Commissar for cheerleading. Rest of the points is usually filled out with vehicles.
>>
>>98885279
>TQ

i was once in a doubles event playing a melee tyranid army and got put up against a duo both running indirect fire imperial guard tank spam, and the mission we rolled had us deploying on the short edge.

i got my entire army down to the last gaunt shot off the table before i got to make a single attack, and my opponents never moved a model. my teammate didnt fare much better. this was back in 6th or 7th edition, it was so bad it put me off of warhammer for like 5 years straight
>>
>>98885369
Ogryn heavy armies will typically always be legal, abhuman regiments are a staple of 40K. Although
>30 rats
Consider 10, and 20 cadian guard. They can be whatever third party or other models take your fancy don't necessarily have to be cadian models, but most importantly they are battleline with sticky obj so you can shove them in transports and run around to nab objectives. You'll want at least one officer too to give orders, you can model it as ogryn with bone'ead implant if you really want.

Maybe they'll drop Nork and in a worst case scenario the Bodyguard. Honestly if anything I see it much more likely to have a Ogryn/Bullgryn specific 1DP detachment that makes at least the Ogryn a battleline option. That is if Guard even get a Codex this edition and they don't get bumped to 12th.

tldr; 36 should be fine, the extra 4 wait and see
>>
>>98885390
I don't like pure strains with mass infiltrate, deep strike and 9" detection range BS. I don't like their strategems either. If it was an elite Army with those abilities I probably wouldn't have such a problem with it but I do have a problem with it when it's another hoarde army.
>>
>>98885399
I agree that getting rid of the force organization chart was a step backwards. I originally played from 4th through 7th and just came back at the start of 11th and while I do like some changes for the most part the game isn't as fun as it used to me, with scoring objectives every turn instead of at the end of the game I can't have a couple of beers and/or a joint while playing because it's just to much to keep track of while drinking or smoking.

During 3rd you could run Ogryn as Troops.
So the only limitation was the Troop and Elite slots for how many Ogryn models you could run.
In standard game you could run 60 melee ogryn and 30 shooty ogryn

Back in 9th right before the death guard codex came out. I was still learning how to play and my list at the time was mostly secondhand firstborn marines. Ended up playing into a Terminus Est assault force. Got completely FaceTime tuen 2 by 100 someodd poxwalkers and 30 terminators led by typhus on turn 2. I would have flipped the table if the guy said a word while I was placing up. The same guy hasn’t played much in the last couple years since they took away most of his overpowered combos and made sisters and guard mediocre. He’s a good dude to talk and hang out with, but he basically only plays when he has a guaranteed win against anything but a super meta list.
>>
>>98885552
Pretty much our only option is to run named characters kitbashed to be /yourdudes/ or you’re gonna lost practically every game. Named characters hold up most factions super hard. Without Calgar or Gman ultracucks would be like a 35% win rate.

I am creating a successor chapter to the Blood Angels: the Red Dragons.
The twist is that they act just like the Red Dragons from D&D.
They believe themselves to be perfect and flawless; they view the Red Thirst and the Black Rage not as curses, but as blessings—a way to draw closer to Sanguinius in spirit. Ironically (and to their great misfortune), they are less prone to experiencing these "blessings" than their brethren, which fills them with intense envy.
They revere Sanguinius and the Emperor as gods, and see themselves as beings created in their image and likeness.

They used to get along well with the Blood Angels—until one day, the latter requested samples of their gene-seed to investigate why the flaws inherent in Sanguinius’s blood appeared less frequently among the Red Dragons. From that moment on, the Red Dragons severed all ties with their elder brothers. How dare they suggest that there was any flaw in them! The audacity!

Bullgryn are quite literally one of the only viable units for guard that isn't a tank right now
Abhuman Auxiliaries, 3 units of 6 each with a Commissar leading, use them as melee blenders and meat walls because they have 4+ invuln saves.
Ogryn are mediocre on the other hand; s5ap-2 (unit ability gives +1ap) shooting, s6ap-1 melee. They're meant to be a "jump out of a transport" unit, but Ogryn take up 3 spaces and the only transports that can carry a full 6-man squad are Stormlords and Doomhammers, and we have far better jump-out units (Kasrkin) for the smaller transports either way.
>command squads
Commissars can be attached to Ogryns and Bullgryns with Abhuman Auxiliaries.
The only limit on the "ratio" is the amount of units per data sheet. There are 2 ogryn datasheets, 3 units each, but you can only have 3 Commissars so you can really only take half the amount you'd want to.

That said, something you should look at for a list is:
>Abhuman Auxiliaries and Steel Hammer detachments
>3 6-man units of Bullgryns with Commissars
>Doomhammer with Assault Hatches enhancement
>Stormsword or Baneblade
>2 Tech Priests (1 per tank)
>1 6-man Ogryn squad, 2 3-mans
These ogryn sit on your backline to hold objectives and screen for deepstrike, that's all they do.
>>98885526
Some of it is because of command points
Generic characters can't generate them, where named ones can (Junith for SoB, Calgar for UM, etc).
Some of it is armies having no good units other than their named character (Morvenn for SoB most prominently).
I despise Herohammer just as much as you, anon

You misunderstand the OP, he is not saying the faction itself is non-NPC, he is saying the people who enjoy playing factions who are defined by their dumb SC slop are NPCs. In theory it means no underfilling that causes shit like half-horn's diaper loincloth and allows for vastly more dynamic posing
In practise the posing is terrible and often significantly harder to adjust because half of every detail is stuck to every other detail
GW's issues with mould lines and putting them unnerringly in the path of rivets, ridges, and ballaches has everything to do with them prioritising volume over quality, and letting a computer cut the model up into bits but not bothering to manually adjust it

Inshallah I will complete my collage submission tonight. It was kinda lazy to just put a few pumpkins but I'm such a hobbylet. One of the models don't even have any space on the base for any. I thought of doing a headswap with pumpkin but adjusting the next was too much for me.
Varnished the minis, need to paint the rim and correct a few mistakes here and there and they'll be done.

>nerf their BS despite their lore being neuro implant aim assist hyper stable shooting
>buff every other armies toughness so they no longer have a standout toughness score
>nerf their armor so they're no longer resistant to armor piercing
>get rid of grudges as a mechanic all together

what is even their thing anymore? 10th edition literally stripped the faction of every single thing that helped define who they were and what their faction was about. i mean for fucks sake their railgun rifles with scopes hit on 5s and have shorter range than a bolter.

what the fuck are the designers doing to this army?
>>
>>98885942
The amount and thickness vary massively between kits. Jump intercessors definitely can't be removed with a fingernail, it's a knife and sandpaper job. Big sprue gates on the front of the shinguards are bullshit by design, but QA is also bad for how thick the mould lines are on both boxes I bought.

Other kits are immaculate and barely need work because the mould lines are tiny and hidden well (terminators).
>>
>>98886042
Given the political leanings of GW employees I'm certain they nerfed them because they're capitalist.
>>
>>98886042
>what is even their thing anymore?
There is a reason why they got squatted.
Design wise there is nothing they bring that can't be done by other factions.
Best case scenario they returned as random mercenaries units for Imperial and Xenos armies.
>>
>>98885995
After a decade of seeing retards claim things have never been better in -current year-, I really do miss proper multipart kits.

>>98886028
I was very disappointed by them, I'd rather buy a box of grey hunters.

GW really went with the shitty HH "variety" where everything is the same and only pointless details change, like gribbles and cables. To be fair it's not as barren as HH, as there is a tiny bit of variation in the intercessor kit, but it's very boring and basic, compared to what they could and should have done.
The latest captain centos remake played with abdomen cables, suboden khan went even harder with a different chest plate and no thigh plates, the emperor champion / bayard's revenge played with mk7-ish primaris armor. The list goes on. Instead we get less than the bare minimum we needed in 2016.

Oh, they're certainly worse than the alternative of us getting nu-tacticals. I'd have liked using grey hunters as proxies but the carbine + chainsword is a bit far off from intercessors for my tastes. Also I don't wanna spend all that long getting rid of the wolfshit. Great models otherwise.
>>
I've still got a couple of the old marine kits from 15 years ago and they suck ass compared to modern ones. Oh wow I have to glue the torso to the legs and maybe twist it a little, why do people pretend this was some "we have to go back" golden era? Not me, but happened to my friend. We were doing a 2v2 game of 10th at my buddy's house, as that was our group's standard way of playing. The guy I'm playing with is Chaos undivided demons built around Be'lakor, I'll call him Demon guy, or DG. We all had a really bad tendency of getting way too high before the game and forgetting rules, but DG was the worst about it.

DG planned to tell the opposing team that Be'lakor was using his Shadow Form ability that gave an aura of lone op to nearby demons. He puts his guys out in the open and completely forgets about the rule, and the rest of us weren't thinking of it either. Our opponents go first and one of them is running Sisters with 2 exorcists (I think, it was a long range heavy tank). Sisters guy gets crazy lucky with rolls and 1 turns Be'lakor. Demon guy is literally fuming and chucks the die that failed to save into the back of our buddy's house. His wife had to pull a bunch of their stuff out because they have pets that would've eaten the die if they didn't retrieve it.

We only played like 2 more games with the DG before he bought a Custodes army. He hasn't finished building or painting his army and it's been like 2 years. We still refer to it as the 'dice throwing incident'.

Squats. Squats is what should have happened.

Three distinct lines of models in the same faction:

- Subdued votann like midges with coats runes and mining equipment , for the viking and Bob the builder fags.

- Very distinctly imperium and IG integrated Squats with plasma, bolters and wrenches. To obviously also use on IG and othe imperial lists.

- Very small, weird and high tech "Demiurg" aka the Battlefleet Gothic weird Tau ally. These would be closer to Votann but more dieselpunk.

To be fair to the AN94, the program's requirements were very iffy altogether and they needed to go through many loops to fulfill them. At least they made a design that used standardized ammo rather than needing its own new cartridge and it got actually adopted unlike far more unconventional designs like the G11. But these programs everyone did about how to shoot 2-3 bullets at once before recoil hit were unlikely to turn up anything good anyway.

This vaguely reminds me of one of Lies of P's end game bosses. His boss weapon is just a goddamn club among all the high tech weapons in the game.

There is a lot to keep track of but this part specifically isn't true. You can max your score with zero scored at the end of round 2. 10th was the edition where missing points in a turn meant they were gone forever.

this is made to be about humans, but I think it applies to the orks from a galactic perspective. always growing, and never stopping. everytime you aren’t fighting them, they’re growing their armies, and arming themselves so they can fight you all over again.
>>
>>98886643
And they love it.
>>
Technically all Nids are naked. Most Necrons besides flayed ones are naked.
>>
>>98886643

The Orks' ideal is the galactic status quo; the original anon is right, the current condition is what they want. They *have* already won.

Yep, you need to try to get at least 15 between turns 1-3, maxing out secondary on 4 and 5 is way too common. Primary often has some after game scoring to bypass turn limit and let you get to 45, but I’ve seen people lose after tabling their opponent because of that secondary cap.

Why does nobody play combat patrol? Spearhead is very fun and popular.
>>
>>98887945
because you have shit like custodes against ad mech/gsc. Who cares if they have to field 1 unit a round when each is worth your entire army in points
>>
>>98887945
Because of the amount of hoops you have to jump through to have a gamemode that is completely different from mainline 40k
And the far greater imbalance, there is no way you can reasonably convince me that the Guard combat patrol is meant to fight the half the Custodes one that you're allowed to field.
That is assuming that the guard one doesn't just come with a gimmick "you can revive each of your units once as soon as it dies" thing.
>>
>>98887945
40k "Combat Patrol" is mostly just a discount box format, not an actual game mode. Spearhead is equivalent on paper only.
You'd think it'd be trivial for them to massage the Spearhead rules and boxes that everyone loves to make them fit 40k, but by all accounts GW is run like Nazi Germany with every department incentivized to compartmentalize itself and backstab and undermine everyone else, so…
>>
>>98886060
so generally I find:
>age of the model matters a lot
>if its old forgeworld it'll be just as shit as old forgeworld
>if its newer (ie modern heresy, necromunda etc) it should be good
>that only goes for resin though, I've never ordered recasts of normal plastic models
>their 3D prints are trash and lack detail
>their metal models are 1:1 GW literally zero difference. if I didn't know better I'd say they had stolen the moulds.
>>
File: xd.jpg (535 KB, 2040x1530)
535 KB JPG
>>98887945
I only played a few as an intro to learn the rules, it was so unbalanced. For it to work as a proper game mode, GW needs to redo it from scratch and not just make it 40k-lite. As the models are fixed into the box, they need their own data-sheet that can heavily differ from their actual datasheet.

>40k "Combat Patrol" is mostly just a discount box format
How low has 40k fallen. Combat Patrol used to be a game mode. It even had its own army limitation when list building.
>>
>>98887945
SvT makes combat patrol inherently problematic. one of the reasons spearhead works is because anybody in a spearhead can fight anybody else in a spearhead.

the second you introduce a T10+ model vs another combat patrol thats like 10 bolters and some power fists, it gets skewed as fuck. plus the combat patrols kept forcing WYSIWYG for horrible gear loadouts that no one would ever actually build in units for the regular game, which is another problem aos doesnt have since its wargear is largely cosmetic.

Eh, as a paintlet who hates putting brush in hand I can understand it. I've concidered it but ultimately would never myself as it feels like wasted money and the minis wouldn't "feel" like mine, but I don't judge others for doing it. Just don't play it off as yours, be upfront and honest that they're commissioned.
>>
>>98888010
>Armies are no more than 400 points
>current Custodes combat patrol is 1170 points
If GW wanted to make a Custodes one fit their original scope, it'd literally be 1 unit of 3 and a leader for 4 total guys.
>>
>>98888030
the way spearhead handles it is the following

-low point spearheads get to ressurect dead squads as reinforcements and/or have character traits to heal or ressurect models mid game

-high point spearheads have some of their models not arrive until turn 3/4, so they only get to act in the last half of the game with some of their units

also, some spearheads that have really powerful units have their entire statlines nerfed in some ways. notably the seraphon carnosaur is missing an entire weapon profile in its spearhead version vs its full game version

>>
>>98888040
I was just talking about the first rule on the custodes thing, I genuinely don't think you could make a custodes combat patrol using the original rules because of scope creep.
Guard would go the other way though because of units being too cheap and orders being required meaning that the "only 1 HQ" would either have to go or let you issue 5 orders instead of 1 per turn.
The 2+ saves also completely wipes a lot of stuff: Custodes in general (sans SoS), terminators, a lot of tanks even (which are absolutely VITAL for a guard list in any setting at current rules).

It *could* be done, but it would require a lot of genuine consideration from GW instead of "just scale the 2k rules down and say good enough." Maybe with the push to "AoS-ify" 40k they'll look at it, but I have my reservations on GW doing smart business decisions to begin with.

40k has catgirls *and* bottomlessly degenerate noblility, so I don't see how bunnygirls of one sort or another are "not 40k"

Horchata, sombreros, fajitas, o algo.

Felinids are a niche thing nobody but deviantartists and redditors pay attention to. You can argue that bunny girls would exist as some nobleman's fancy in some corner of the 40K universe and that some bunny-like creature exists to give inspirationfor the ears and tails, but personally idgaf it takes me right out of any immersion in the setting to see something that's so grounded in our real modern world just plonked haphazardly into 40K and on the table. I just don't think they have a place here, and I really hope you're not taking obvious coomer models like that to a LGS

NTA, but I do.
I've seen worst things there, but then again we are not gringo's that get scared when the human form is shown.

>>98888265
But they're not mexican. Or is that the joke.

Sure sure, except in this case bunny girls are explicitly porn actresses designed for a sex obsessed rich fuck, and kids visit LGSes

It's not americans it's mexicans wewuzing as spaniards

How do you feel about the use of bunny girls in Dragon quest, a game for Japanese children?

I see, okay follow up question then. How does being spics translate to combat tactics? Like with other chapters their culture generally meshes with their battle strats - not!roman ultras being versatile, not!templar knight BTs favouring martial combat etc. What do CFs do different to the other chapters and how's that mesh with them being beaners?

I feel like the IW aren't that bad. If we accept the premise that they're there to help you at all, they'll probably just do their job effectively and then leave with no fuss.
Img limit reached. Who will bake for us?

>>98888465
Okay, even if they're generic spaniards my question still stands. I literally just know so little about CF, they're surprisingly buried from the cultural zeitgeist despite being the poster boys way back when.

They *aren't* that bad. The Iron Hands have the same "weakness is a choice, skill issue, L+ratio LMAO" toxicity going on and they're (mostly) Codex compliant, and the Warriors are way less likely to arbitrarily slaughter 30% of your population for not unilaterally assuming a total war footing against the Chaos corruption in your hive city that you had no way of knowing about.

I've seen the sentiment that the heresy series has dome incredible damage to the hobby and setting, but having not read it, I'm not super in tune with the discourse around it. What makes people have this sentiment besides old good new bad?

I look mainly to play combat patrols but from what ive seen its better to play low point OPR games instead.
Or use the old patrol rules which i can't find right now.
Does anyone have that in hand?
