On This Day in Napoleonic History — The Capitulation of StettinOn October 29, 1806, during Napoleon’s lightning-fast campaign against Prussia, French Brigadier General Antoine Lasalle achieved one of the most audacious feats of the Napoleonic Wars. With little more than a handful of hussars at his disposal, Lasalle bluffed the surrender of the formidable Prussian fortress of Stettin, convincing its garrison that a much larger French force was at hand. The result was extraordinary: a fortified town surrendered along with approximately 5,300 Prussian soldiers, hundreds of guns, and substantial military stores, without a major battle. Coming just days after Prussia’s catastrophic defeat at Jena and Auerstedt, the capitulation of Stettin perfectly captured the shock, confusion, and demoralization that had overtaken the Prussian army—and cemented Lasalle’s reputation as one of Napoleon’s most daring cavalry commanders.
I thought those were war Ompas Loompas from the thumbnail

>>98896637Are hussars incapable of not striking a zesty pose.
>>98896790Isn't that the point of hussars?

What's the most fun rank & flank style wargame? Ideally but not necessarily one suited for the late medieval or renaissance era.

What is everyone favorite Napoleonic era campaign?
>>98897856Probably the Trafalgar campaign, but I'm an age of sail nut. The land stuff isn't as interesting to me.
>>98896627Who makes these?
>>98898154Bong detected. Trafalgar isn't even the most interesting naval affair in the age of Napoleon
>>98899169Name a single naval battle that doesn't involve the Bongs that's relevant or interesting.>no no no but this small naval skirmish between Swedish and Russian galleys saw 400 men on both sides!!1!

>>98899190We're talking Napoleonics you tard.
>>98899184This scenario is terrifying to me. Imagine you're stuck on this little platform, it can sink, it is disabled and cannot move, there is no where to run, you're surrounded on all sides by argry armed men, they smell like fish oil and chocolate milk, they're clambering up all sides, they're speaking gibberish, but you know they want to drive an axe into your chest very badly.

Did testprints and a quick coat of paint on the some of the WW1 Italians I've been sculpting on a commission.
>>98900444Hello anon, great to see your progress since your first renders. Do you have any training or education or are you completely self-taught?
>>98900444Its not bad, I like the one in the middle the most. The officer has kinda unusual pose and I feel like proportions there are wonky.Good job anon, how much do you take for commisions ?

>>98897856Austro-Polish War
>>98897856The German campaign of 1813 was just kino, but my favorite is the french campaign in 1814. 1814 was a true master class showing us that Napoleon really was without equal. Napoleon absolutely clapping multiple nations all invading France at once, with an army 1/20th their size made up almost entirely of emergency drafted raw recruits, no cavalry, like no artillery. The imperial guard fighting tooth and nail day after day in the snow. Napoleon winning victory after victory against massive forces and had them literally fleeing at the news of him approaching.. eventually they realize they can win by going around him straight to Paris, his army was too small to stop all of them at once.>My enemies are many; my equals are none.
Plans for the Pillage campaign I mentioned last thread>The plan is to play out our own version of 1066, following the death of King Edward the Confessor, using a map>We have at least two people interested in playing Vikings, one in Normans, one in Saxons, and one undecided between the two>Fortunately, no one has shown interest in playing a people that would require us to do alternate history like the Rus. Closest we got is my preference for Carolingians, but I'm just gonna run Saxons.>For the campaign system, I'm going to yank the one from Greathelm, as it's appropriate for the tech level/society and easy to adapt>Will likely start the campaign early next year, once I'm less crazy busy and our current Frostgrave campaign has likely wrapped>I may try out writing batreps in the style of a medieval chronicler

>>98903226Have you considered filming the battles?
>>98903226You need some flavor of celts.>>98903517I dont think they had cameras in 1066.
>>98900720Thanks, I'm self-taught and approach it mostly as a hobby, I learn a lot from looking at minis made by pro's. I've been making minis for about three years now and it's fun to see them slowly getting nicer. Still lots to learn tho. >>98900722Cheers, I dont ask a lot per mini, 50 euro per sculpt, as I feel my quality isn't there yet to ask a higher price and its mostly a hobby for me. >>98900758thanks Blud, regards to the cats and hope all is well.
>>98896790Some hussar units still teach that stance. In my country it was technically not kosher anymore (regimental differences being essentially erased from the manuals), but we considered it our duty to be zesty whenever possible.
>>98903226>Viking is the most popular choiceI fucking hate normies
>>98903517Videos are intrinsically evil, so no. >>98903763Were there a lot of celts doing stuff in Britain in1066? I haven't done a deep read yet.
>>98904953>Were there a lot of celts doing stuff in Britain in1066? I haven't done a deep read yet.Other than, you know, living there, not really.
I was looking at victrix caesars legionaries and i am getting pretty tempted to get them, but my knowledge of ancients is pretty weak so aside that set what else would i need in term of miniatures? would republican auxiliaries and cavalry work? What about rules and basing? i know for big battles smaller scales would be better but i want to get my father into the hobby to help with his mental health so 28mm would be the best option for him.
>>98903383Do yourself a favor an try battlegroup instead.
>>98906872Romans were the OG heavy infantry spammers, you can literally just go all in on legionaires.Auxilla are a good idea, there was a fuckton of them of all the flavors of the rainbow. Just dont go overboard, think 1:1 ratio of legionaires to auxilla.Rome never really figured out cavalry, feel free to skip it. I would just stock up on legionaires and then use whatever other kit you like as auxilia.
>>98906872>>98907153None of the Victrix auxilia are suited for the Caesarian kit. He can use the Republican cavalry kit tho.
>>98907162Yeah I worded it weirdly, by >any other kitI mean using celts or iberians or something.Getting these new Ceasareans and a box of Republican Legionaires gives you almost 100 minis, together with 2 commanders and more than needed subcommanders. You also get some velites and options to make triarii. Its honestly not a bad idea, you will have enough minis for at least two warbands in any skirmish level game like say Saga with options to spare
>>98907184>and options to make triariiOr I guess ever popular spear armed auxilia depending on how you build them.
>>98907153>>98907184Oh, thanks. I did some quick research and looked into some of their other kits, in their gallic cavalry description says that they can be used for caerian legions. In terms of auxilia i am looking for stuff like cavalry and skirmishers, were velites still a thing? What about archers? Also, aside from SAGA, are out there any other similar system? I saw that in my zone people seem to be playing Clash of Spears
>>98908125Aight my nigga, I'm going to give some simple advice.First read some books, I recommend these as a starting point.>https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/roman-legionary-10958-bc-9781472825193/>https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/caesars-civil-war-9781472855077/>https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/caesars-gallic-wars-9781472862013/This is a really good period to wargame since you have the various Roman warlords fighting all over the Mediterranean. You can fight against, and use (as auxiliaries) Gauls, Britons, Germans, Iberians, Numidians, Pontics, Ptolemies and Parthians. And obviously other Romans armies, even Spartacus and his gladiators (now there's a plastic kit for them).I personally recommend reading the historian Adrian Goldsworthy, he also has a YouTube channel where he uploads hours of free content. If you're only looking at plastic minis then you have Victrix and Warlord Games, maybe Wargames Atlantic too. Otherwise search for [item] 28mm plastic. For metals I recommend Aventine Miniatures and Wargames Foundry. Are you looking at skirmish battles? Try Saga or Clash of Spears. Smaller rank & flank? Look at Infamy, Infamy!Do you have previous experience with painting? Otherwise I can suggest some guides. Before buying minis I suggest reading some history books and deciding on rules. Then you look at army lists and plan an army.
>>98896627I really hate how almost nobody plays Flames of War anymore, if I want to to play it’s a 3 hour drive easily. What do I do, just continue to paint and collect solo? It’s depressing anons… how do I cope with the dead game feels?
>>98908294thanks!>Do you have previous experience with painting?yeah, with GWslop and some WW2 stuff but any guide would be cool. And regarding multiple companies how are the scales between them? i remember that back in the day Hail Caesar stuff used be small like 25mm
>>98908371Eh, it'll all be slightly different. But so are people.
>>98908319Buy a second army off someone that doesn't play anymore and ask your friends to play games with you. You will be playing with the same models every time, which might seem boring but it's kinda good. You'll need to get creative making interesting scenarios. Make some new terrain every time and you can do a bit of a campaign.
>>98908407I see this sentiment quite a bit but it leaves outt he fact that its not just height but scale of body proportions and more imporsntly, scale of equipment.Sometimes mixing scales just doent work visually.
>>98908570I mean, most manufacturers can't even keep scale consistent in their own product ranges.
Two FLGS out of like 6+ in my area started carrying Konflikt 47. They also do plenty of TCG, so TCG's probably the bulk of their income, or I assume it vastly eclipses a single /awg/ or /hwg/ on their shelves. History repeating itself, there's been a local bubble of 40k players momentarily waking up and realizing there's better games out there, so a couple stores branched out.Is it really going to matter if I make a point of paying their MSRP + Markup to buy it off the FLGS shelves, rather than>Cheaper when on sale from the Mfg directly>Buying used>3D printed>etcAlso is K47 an /awg/ or /hwg/? Neither general lists it.
>>98910780K47 is an /awg/, since it's science fiction. Alternate history can sometimes be /hwg/ but K47 crosses the line
>just ordered grass and flower tufts for 70 quidI WILL GET A REALISTIC SUMMER FIELD LOOK
>>98900002Does the War of 1812 count or is it just contemporaneous? If it does then that one, because I'm distantly related to Rear Admiral George Cockburn and his capture of Washington(DC, not the dude) in 1814 is hilarious, especially the part where he personally visits a specific newspaper that had been talking shit about him and ordered the building torn down and every single instance of the letter C in their collection of typeface melted down so they wouldn't be able to traduce him any more. Every day I strive to be that much of a petty git in his honour.Just a shame that General Ross was such a fucking pussy little bitch that he would only reluctantly allow the burning of the White House - and that only after the Americans opened fire on him under a flag of truce - when Cockburn's plan was to burn the whole city to ash in retaliation for America's failed but rapacious raids on cities in Canada.
I love how my dark age village is coming along.
>>98911621It looks very nice. What games are you playing with it?

My Vajelo primer spray is going all over the place and I'm reading the last year this has been a major problem with their cans. The box I used is like a blast zone and I have been using acetone plus scrubbing to fix my landlords plastic deck
>>98911902Thank you, originally we were playing SAGA but I've really taken to Pillage recently
>>98903799Sadly not, wife's been ill a lot this year and father is getting MRI for prostate cancer. So not a good year, but I have more of God's Grace this time around than 2 years ago. Hard times and hard lessons make one more humble, I suppose. Gaming is going well, mostly just the one we last played last, at one point I became the shark people run into at tournaments rather than the one who is afraid of the sharks. Strange to see people speak about it like that, I'm not thinking much of it. Just going for the friends and the community. Keeps me from Falling Down, you know what I mean.
>>98916314That's rough buddy, I hope things will turn out well.
