Someone gave me a walmart digital giftcard and I found Bello's precon on their site for 40 dollars, so I bought it.
Im a yum yucker
Post your favorite basics. Im partial to core set basics.

UNBAN MY ZESTY ELF!
>>98897709>>98897712Yes anon, as I showed in my picture it is meant for sideways loading, that's what the thumb recesses are for, to grab the whole sideways deck at once.Loading it stacked like you showed is possible, but the way the lid opens makes that hazardous to the top cards depending on how they've moved around in transport.Kek.
>>98897732This in foil is my favorite.
>>98897673>TQ The last one I brought was the Elves from Middle Earth I think.>>98897732I'm partial to the Ixalan basics
>>98897732depends on the deck, I do like original zendikar full arts, like the tipped bowl island, or the camps on the cliffside mountain, but for some decks I just try to go with singleton art regular as basics from across the oldest sets I have so no two in any given deck are the same. A planeswalker is supposed to draw mana from different lands, not the same one over and over.
>>98897460My LGS cannot shift UB stock, and WotC sends them less UW as a result as if their sales across the board are below expectations (they're not, UW sells like hotcakes)It's just insane. There is a faction within WotC that is pushing UB, refuses to listen to backlash against UB, and openly lies to shareholders about its success
>>98897732Im working on getting 10 of each of these basics. I have 6 Plains, 2 Islands, 2 Swamps, 10 Mountains, And 3 Forests
This thread is going to be filled with anons bitching about UB ad infinitum isn't it?
>>98897732>yeah I'm that dudebut I was obsessed with these back in 2010. I had even contacted Ron Spears if he was going to do reprints of the entire island/swamp piece but I think he said it wasn't up to him or something >>98897753very cool. I got the two parallel tree-swamp 7th edition foil from one of the dudes I play with a couple months ago. real cool stuff>>98897190that is fake news. look at the boxes pictured. the current formulation of UP Eclipses dont split like that. you're literally talking about what dragon shields dodragon shields are all warped and fucked up out of the box very often, random ass dents in them, pieces of shit. and they split just by looking at themeclipse lasts a long time, you get 8 extras per box (it says 5 but I've gotten 8 out of all of them), shuffle good, feel great. the only downside is they dull foils which I will take that over not getting enough sleeves to sleeve a deck after the 3rd replacement box, and then them splitting before the first night with them is over. even katana's are not so great, and the current KMC's are not the greatest. no idea about double sleeving or whatever the fuck that craziness is, one sleeve is already retarded but works well for mixing in beat up cards + new + gold border/30th anniversary cards
>>98897732Easy
>>98897834It's the new (you) farm after proxy shit flinging started getting dimishing returns
>>98897732Most old borders will do. I tend to like Mirage's set of plains and forests the best, but Tempest and Urza's Block have better islands.
>>98897873God I'm not ready for Wotc to rape jamuraa with their wakanda bullshit
>>viashino and cephalid creature types get put out to pasture>Star Trek introduces a billion new creature types that will only ever be populated populated by 1-2 creatures
>>98897673>What's the last precon you bought?- All of the foundations decks all together.- why ? felt good, and considered them to be lendables at the table.
>>98897890>viashino and cephalid get buffed by being given access to lizard and octopus support>this is bad actually
>>98897907vulcans and romulans and maybe betazoids should be elvesklingons should be orcsferengi should be dwarves or goblinsbajorans should be back in the camps
>>98897732This island is probably my favorite. I also really like the basics from original mirrodin and the two basics that Larry MacDougall did in shadowmoor were also great and looked spooky as fuck.
>>98897923kino>>98897732tempest and the arena-only snow covered lands
>>98897936these arena-only ones too
>>98897673>tqlast 2 pre cons I bought were the calling all angels pre con to have a pre-con on hand for low power randos. although I added stuff like Baneslayer Angel, Radiant archangel, new Lyra, Serra the Benevolent planeswalker, Pearl Medallion, Path, Archaeomancer's, Tithe (the visions land tutor) holy day, wrath of god and monologue tax to it. I pub stumped a father and son a few days ago with it on accident with it though so maybe it's still too powerful. or the pre-cons are just really good I guess. there was only 1 card I had changed out on the battlefield even. the other recent one I got maybe 5 months ago was the Tidus FFX deck which is pretty awesome too. used the cards to make 3 different decks. the green cards are ballin in my Kwia Vigorbloom deckI wanted to get the liberty prime fallout deck but I think it will be cheaper to buy the singles from that deck than anything because theres a lot of trash in it. I think thats the one with nuka cola vending machine and I dont care about that card at all, its going to be lots of MH3 energy sloppa using all sorts of bulk with ETB energy creation to fuel Lib-Prihalf of the revolving cast of dudes I play commander with bought the reality frac precon and I haven't brought myself to do it. most of the cards are actually kind of just novel trash. dack is cancer. the angel would be not fun in the angel's precon for the power level I have it at. wanted the white black Niv for a deck but I already have a fun black white deck and theres not really any good cards like Lab Man in white or black to benefit from it. black avacyn isnt my style. 4. color jace is also cancerous. no green is completely gimped and retarded. need to take out the weakest link color which in commander is red. I would legit like to see a 4 color commander that red blue black and green though. and although white is my main bag, the other colors cover pretty much everything else as far as board states go.
>>98897673I think the recent red/white strixhaven one was the most recent I grabbed. Was thinking of doing a low power spirit deck with it.
>>98897950it's actually a kino deck

>>98897999You know Fynn came out in Kaldheim in 2021, right? Right?
>>98897991Crucible of Fire being usable on a real tribe would be pretty interesting.
>>98898005You can get the swamps back pretty cheap at least. The other two are niche meme cards in this format at least.
>>98897906A bought 3 of the precons, the green one because it was the most popular of the 5 and the white and black ones because I wanted zombie and angel staples.
>>98897834It's hilarious that they've given up all pretense of supporting their dead antiUB hug box and just come in here to cry and cope. If they had any brains at all they'd understand a movement built on bad vibes and pissbabying will have zero legs or staying power.
>>98897673RIP.
>>98897834Here's a simple thought, maybe UB could fuck off and there'd be nothing to complain about?
I like how goofy looking this guy looks, is a deck built around it any good is it one of those cards that people couldn’t be fucked with using?
>>98897919>>98897890And that won't matter in large part because they've finally figured out to include generic creature types for tribal based cards that may want to run them.
>>98898042I thought this was a meme, like corey harrison dying, but no, he really died.Damn
>>98898045You are brown.
>>98898047He's simic and he likes lands and/or manadorks with counters on them. You can make him work and you can even make him quite good, there's just so many simic commanders that do that sort of thing but better/easier to build around so he's not very common.
>>98898015Damn so he's been undefeated for that long? Based.
>>98898045Anon, you have your shelter thread. Why are you here? Why are you not in your promised land? UB is part of magic, like it or not. If you don't want to see it, why aren't you in the place where you won't have to?

>>98898122It's only theoretically worth money until he sells it and neither of those cards move much
>>98897732I'm coming back after a long time and the full card lands in a lot of sets are gorgeous, but the Mirroden plains are what I think of when I think of mtg lands
>>98898134>a horse not born in a stable is still a horseBut that's not what he asked dipshit
>>98897673oh that's really unfortunate timing
>>98898152>A mouse born in a stable is not a horse.why bring up the stable then? idiotyou could just say, 'a mouse is not a horse', but no, you have to inject the stable as if it has anything to do with fucking shitfor 'a mouse born in a stable is not a horse' to mean anything the reverse 'a horse not born in a stable is still a horse' must also apply, but naturally you can't accept that because it btfo your little narrative
>>98898139>It's only theoretically worth money until he sells it and neither of those cards move muchthat's quite literally how investments workso yes, my friend is doing just finehe also likes UB
>>98898153Actually incredibly fortunate if you're WotC and just printed a serialized Patrick Stewart signature card. May legit be one of the last things he ever signedNow I'm not saying that the Star Trek set was receiving mixed responses and MaRo killed Patrick Stewart to raise the value of the chase card for scalpers, but I'm not ruling it out either
>>98898125There's goodies for all colors in this set. The whole "SET IS SHIT" hysteria is seethe that UB continues to deliver good sets.
>>98898161The defining attribute of a Magic set is not who printed it. It is defined by what it is. Your quenchy turtle marvel slop nostalgia wank will never be a Magic set because Magic is not other IPs.

>>98898185No you don't understand if I make a custom card that says "If you lose the game, you win the game twice instead." it's a real Magic card if I put Urza's mech suit in the art.
ubfags don't actually have any opinions of their own, and that certainly includes the ubfags in these threads. they'll just say and argue the opposite of whoever they're arguing with forevermore, no matter how contradictory or insane their 'beliefs' tend to be.
I played for the first time in twenty years today. We did our precons because our customs aren't ready yet and it was 1v1 after the other guy bailed so not the ideal setup for commander especially since these two decks don't mesh well at all. I lost like seven games before calling it most by turn 9 or 10. I was playing the elemental deck which had the issue I figured it would where the mana support was not sufficient to cast its big expensive elementals quickly, and the additional problem of having basically no flying, whilst the dragon precon sets up a dozen buff flying monsters before you blink three times. Onto slivers!
>>98898199Neck yourself gaybolasfag
>>98898171weak bait
>>98898208>the mana support was not sufficient to cast its big expensive elementals quickly??? The whole point is you play Ashling and then cast your elementals for 4But yes the mana base in that deck is an insult. WotC are absolute shysters about printing decent lands. They know they're a bottleneck that everybody needs to instead of just printing them into the dirt like they should, they iterate on dual lands that enter tapped under various circumstances, and the best of those are worth between $5-$10 so you won't see them in most precons.I have the elementals deck and instead they just give you a green ramp package, it's garbage. If you want to upgraded it, you need to completely gut the lands, and then be adding cards like Urza's Incubator and Animar Soul of Elements, not cheap
>>98898215>truths I don't like are bait! There's plenty of good new cards in Trek for lots of colors and deck archetypes. If you actually don't think so you're either a malding antiub retard or a retard with card evaluation skills. Either way you're a retard.

I do hope he's at least getting paid to do it. Because then there's a reason to shit up a general for so long, you know? I mean it doesn't make you any less of a terrible person, doing something bad for money, but at least that's a REASON. If he's just doing it to shit up a general for the sake of it then that's way sadder.
>>98898171Why are you getting so excited over a random bulk mythic from Amonkhet?

>>98898225I hate having to hope someone makes a better proxy for cards.
>>98898111I wouldn't go that far...it looks like it has a couple ok cards but the spaceships are wack, lots of weird random tribal that will be stuck to this one set. like most of the non-high fantasy UB (like FF, LOTR/Hobbit) there will be a handful of stand out cards from Trek and thats it. >>98898125this has been debunked. as shown by red's blue-balled rampant growth (that should have went in reality frac but instead got Maro'd and then slotted in to TREK) green is to stay dominant while red stays unplayable (or playable but a losing color). blue has had nothing great or breaking printed for it really and is still great. white got some cool stuff recently, another wannabe Soul Sister/Stepmom hybrid, tutors for legendary creatures + p-walkers between hobbit & reality frac. plus the hottest card of the year Splendor bookcover replacing Smo-Tithe (when that gets banned) and giving a mana sink/card drawblack like blue needs no help they just keep owning the way they do. and even the best new multicolor cards are either green white or blue white. red drags down green hardcore and black completely carries red/black combos. my fav color combo used to be red blue black but red holds it back so much it makes unplayable if you want to play your actual spells. and dont have to worry about a vandal blast or austere command wiping out "all muh mana rocks"
>>98898288It's a pump card
>>98898319is this a fun card? how much do people hate you for playing it?
>>98898257I'd be surprised by that. With Ashling on paper, if you're shitting out the elementals, the token copy comes with haste. So you get value from a double ETB, and then you smack someone with a 7/7 or whatever it is.I dunno man. Worked in my pod is all I can say.But also, like i said, the deck wants gutting anyway, I'd recommended Cloudshift, Ephemerate, and Reanimate in there too. That's 3 one mana spells that will let you keep your elementals so you actually create a board presence.I also hit on this secret tech as soon as the deck was announced, pic related. 3 black is a bit annoying to make if your mana base isn't very well put together, but basically you can reduce the cost of your elementals by a further 2 and make zombies to build a board presence because the templating of the card does not say that the creature has to die to the enchantment effect for a zombie to be made.>evoke with Ashling>Sibsig reduces it from 4 to 2>cast resolves>elemental enters>Sibsig trigger goes on the stack>put the evoke ETB and sacrifice trigger above that so it resolves first>elemental sacrifices itself>Ashling triggers, you get a copy>THEN Sibsig resolves>there is nothing to destroy but you still get the zombieIf you reduce the cost of evoking elementals to 0 there's infinite loops you can do with Greenwarden of Murasa
>>98898144Beat me to it, I put one of the razor grass plains in every white deck.
>>98898107Lmao a Quartering wojak, about damn time.
>>98898324People generally enjoy it honestly. Don't even play Niggathrond. I only run exile mill to pump him, horror tribal, a bit of flicker and goodstuff. Usually end up oneshotting through commander damage or flinging Umbris via Rite of Consumption. I think if you tell people it isn't a mill deck and there is just incidental exile mill as means to an end they don't care that much.

>>98898395if you have any semblance of a plan to win the game you are in bracket 2 there are lots of powerful human cards in white. some may consider their powers... gamechanging.aside from that, white has plenty of good cards and catchup ramp that will be on 99% of the time because people can't stop playing green. it's hard to compete in bracket 3+ with pure aggro unless you're playing an absurdly busted aggro tribe or list or something, and i don't think humans or knights qualify. but as white you can play some incredibly busted cards to make up for your shortcomings and keep on swinging until you win
>>98898395Nah you gotta splash a little bit of green in there for the busted stuff anon. Mono white is cancer unless you play an actually good tribe or hate the people you’re playing with so you spam stax.

Knights are a really bad tribe in general even with a solid eminence commander printed for them in Esper. I can't remember what the "3rd game changer is" but it has some "borderline" cards like Grim Tutor, Gleaming Splendor, Land Tax...Black Market Connections (a lot of people seem to think BMC is on the game changer list? there will be a dude every 2-3 weeks who insists on looking it up, not that it matters but just weather it is or not)mono white could be even better but you'll help on draw. make sure to be able to recur stuff like FOUR KNOCKS from the graveyard to keep having a white phyrexian arena. you'll need all the help you can get on card draw. gleaming splendor will be a must. what I run in my deck is really like nearly 70/30 white to black. Put Mirrormind Crown (pic rel) on Knight Exemplar, and then have ways to make tokens like "Recruitment Drive". each of those tokens will instead be knight exemplars. I also like Sigiled Sword of Valeron which makes a new knight token each combat. really will only have to worry about either A: other white players Farewelling/Final Judgement/Sunfall (mass exile wipe) orB: black players doing some mass -x/-x thing, toxic deluge of course but theres other effects, stacking. Like the black owl from Bloomburrow or night of soul's betrayalso I would run anthems: glorious anthem, honor of the pure and of course Crusade (5th edition one if you play with faggots). Arkenstone another good one that helps bolster card draw. I put Crusade in the new mono white Angels pre-con and it works great. also dont sleep on the protection knights. OG w knight of course I'm sure is a given, protection from black but Paladin en-vec has protection from red. Mirran Crusader protection from IIRC, black & green. theres something in every color. theres also Paladins of each direction that I think either gives protection from colors or counter spells of that color by tapping them. Order of the Sacred torch? I run the black one in mine

>>98898540Part what drew me into magic as a kid was the setting of Ravnica as that was my first set. The art, the guilds, the lore, all vibrant and unique. I liked going back to older sets like Alara, Mirrodin, Kamigawa or Lorwyn and seeing how Magic approched different settings. All different but all Magic. If the settings and art and lore were all lame and gay I wouldn't have bothered. If my first experience was playing commander with someone playing SpongeBob instead of playing my Selesnya precon against friends I wouldn't have stayed.
>>98898597Cool. What drew me into playing a game was the gameplay.
>>98898599Bullshit, the gameplay is math homework.
>>98898558Yeah that's fair. There's the idea that sol ring is an artifact and i've got nothing that cares about artifacts, and i'm focusing more on land ramp and such and such, and i've even got multiple Collector Ouphe effects in the deck, but none of that really matters in the face of the sheer power of sol ring. Signet and other mana rocks were easy cuts from the deck though.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>98898607Why in gods name would I be playing a game for artwork? I can load up my PC or phone and scroll through a gallery for that. What insane mindset is that shit?
>>98898599You say that like it's mutually exclusive. If I didn't enjoy magic mechanically I never would have stayed, but what made me fall in love with it to begin with was the flavor. If all the cards were blank text boxes written in comic sans on a white sheet how many people do you think would even try it?
>>98898612it's a combination of the art, the lore and how those together tell a story through the math. It's no one thing in a vacuum, it is the combination of the three that is more than the sum of those parts.
>>98898620The thing that matters to a game is gameplay. Go open an art gallery
>>98898356I really need to fix up my Kwia deck
>>98897834I was right

>>98897673Right... I confess. Im crying like a little boy...a main piece of my childhood is gone.
>>98898563con't....3rd game changer is the one ring. you need that card draw. and its flavorful. but I'd buy gleaming splendor over the one ring if you've got a budget at all. also take advantage of the MDFC lands, don't sleep on Witch Enchanter. there's also a complete wipe on the back of one, (all non land permanents). is called like Ondu Dindu or something. I would put in an enlightened tutor before the one ring, in mine I have black tutors but white it will be useful. consider being able to respond basically at instant speed, Seal of Cleansing & Echoverse Fulcrum are ways to pull removal/wipes with E-Toot. Idyllic tutor is another non GC way to get enchantments. tutoring for answers may seem ghey but it's what ups the power level. all the white catchup ramp is important. knight of the white orchid is obvious + land tax, TITHE (from visions), weathered wayfarer, Kor carto, archeomancer's map, deep gnome terramancer, scholar of new horizons, gift of estates + colorless ones like Pony Boy, wayfarer's baubleI'd probably go: 1. knight of the white orchid2. pick either: A. Land tax B. Gift of Estates C + Tithe3. either A. Archaeomancer's Map or B. Deep Gnome4. Kor Cartographer5. troop of ponies + wayfarer's baublethen if you still want more, as a bonus theres scholar of the new horizons, keeper of the accord, SAD ROBT, burnished hart (not a fan personally), armillary sphere, expedition map....

Kwia's best friend should be step-sister of runes well keeps you from stalling out and a board full of lotus' becoming a target. essentially you're converting making a lotus token each turn into "draw 3 cards" (or 6 if your running token doublers, which I haven't even bothered with its already so good...activate a life gain effect on each players turn, either authority of the consuls or soul sisters or whenever you've got...)other than playing against something blue just countering everything you try and do, the whole table has to team up to take you down

>>98897732I love this island so much I got a signed playmat of it. I use them in my Pauper Faeries deck and a few in my mono-blue Kami deck.

>>98898732thats very cool. they used that art in 8th/9th edition right? I'm pretty sure I randomly got a foil (so black border. modern frame) island with that art a couple months ago. great stuff.

>>98898743I so regret giving this away
>>98897732Original ones are the best. The ones I _hate_ are ones where the name of the card doesn't match what the art depicts. Like the Ravnica "islands" that are just fountains and other shit like that. If the card's called island, you draw an island. It's that simple.
>>98897732The SNC fullarts are the best set of basics in a very long timeInvasion are my favorite but even I tire of seeing them in every deck
>>98898743Only Phyrexian Negator is coming to mind for now. I mostly just deal in "good cards" for what's in my memory so most soulful cards are out of my mind, but negator is incredibly fucking chad. Tempting Wurm as well, but that's more for mechanics I suppose.

>>98898536>I'm mixed on the professor,I'm not, he's a retard but it's funny to dunk on Scambly as his career collapses and the supposed millionaire attempts to grift off his dead father and dying dog to reimburse him for World Series tickets>some good opinionsHis opinions aren't always his own. His tranny editor (literally goes by @tiddypills) writes some of his scripts and he's said as much, especially if he's discussing formats he doesn't play.I watched a lot of his box opening videos and his card evaluation skills are dogshit. They're so bad I used to get into arguments on this board about whether he was deliberately giving shit takes to bait interaction. He judges cards like some boomer who hasn't played in 10 years, and consistently 10x's the value>he constantly hedges his personal negative feelingsTerminal leftoidism. If you frequent social circles where being criticized is about the worst thing that can happen to a person and no culture is superior to another because everything is relative, then no matter how well founded your opinions are they can only ever be "opinions" in the pejorative sense and must give way to other opinions even if those opinions are not as well founded. In such cases a person with strong opinions will second-guess themselves and begin to believe their opinions are more subjective than they are.UB is a pretty good test case for this because there's plenty of reasons to hate UB because of what it has done to this game and what the long-term consequences will be for Magic, whereas there's only 2 reasons to like UB>I like this IP>I like this card effectUltimately just about every Magic "influencer" has prioritized a good relationship with WotC and feeling important by getting official spoilers to release over having any sort of integrity. If the Professor had just declared his channel would not cover UB it'd probably have made waves, but he cracks UB collector booster boxes and grumbles instead

>>98899071> Magic insists on depicting every mountain as an ugly barren red rock so they usually suck ass.The Bob Ross mountains are my favorite for this exact reason. It's a shame they're $5-6 each. Some of the original Lorwyn mountains have a bit of greenery too.

>>98898906you should swap kodama's reach for nature's lore. farseek is good for plains but having a 2 cost land tutor instead of 2 that cost 3 I think will help you out more. I like the inclusion of Tithe, it's a deep cut. I got a gold bordered one as one of the mod's to the new mono white Angel's pre-con. I would even say add rampant growth + nature's lore. NL good because it's a forest that comes in untapped but rampant growth lets you grab a plains. if you've got a few duals of any type (be it a real or not Savannah, or temple garden, canopy vista, etc)I also recommend the new vigor bloom charm. one of the best charms in a long time I'd say. protects your commander, draws a card + life gain trigger, buffs a creature/kills someone elses'. whats not to like?I really like what you've got going on here though. I've been wanting to make a Rin and Seri deck, no one in my revolving pod of commander players has one. but I'm pretty sure it's a common one in general. but Kwia (green white) has become my new favorite deck so there's some good ideas to look over here. I had considered hunter's insight but haven't tried it yet.
>>98899257I look like and do this, that, and that other thing too.

>>98899319>god awful nu-modern border with all the black empty spaceNostalgia boomer. Your art IQ is too low to understand there was already "empty space" on the old cards and they looked significantly worse because of the texture of the frame

>>98899324>theros was the definitive hat set codifierYou tried this bait literal years ago. I even have the screencap of when we asked AI about the definition of hat sets
>>98899330So why is Outlaw At Thunder Junction a "hat-set", but Ravnica isn't? Ravnica was all about gothic horror
>>98899330Too bad. Theros is a hat set.
>>98899336I said Ravnica, I meant Innistrad
>>98899336>>988993391. Gothic horror was first and foremost a literary genre. Dracula, Frankenstein, Lovecraft, that's what Innistrad was based on. OTJ is based very specifically on Westerns as a movie genre. There's a difference of about 60-90 real world years for the origins there.>inb4 "nah uhhhh da wild west was weal so akshually OTJ was based on dat an not moobis!!!!!!"I will simply tap the sign pic related: >>988981522. Innistrad didn't involve characters from other planes visiting and dressing up in costumes. You cannot justify Queen Marchesa visiting another plane and dressing like a common outlaw and taking part in heists other than it being what hat sets compel characters to do
>>98899345Well sure but your second point literally doesn't even happenR-right...
>>98899346???otj-220-marchesa-dealer-of-death.pngAnyway, in hindsight I think we can all see now that the purpose of the hat set was to soft-release sets based on movies so that when UB became 50% of all sets it would feel less jarring.Fundamentally it was about intent. Innistrad was not intended to make UB more palatable, OTJ absolutely fucking was.
>>98898225why is there more booba in the star trek cards compared to in universe sets?
>>98899378>HOLY FUCK CURVES? ON CARDBOARD!? IM GONNA COOOOOOOOOM! MARO TAKE ALL MY MONEY!!!!God I wish the crooked windmill people hadn't ruined the concept of eugenics.
>>98899330The "problem" anon is trying and failing to articulate is just top down vs bottom up set design. Innistrad and Theros were both top down sets where they started with the flavor of a gothic and greek plane and came up with the mechanics afterwards.
>>98899323its objectively better retard
I asked the other day if it was a good idea to build pic related but people replied madness was not getting support since it was too difficult for new people and replaced it with the mayhem mechanic which is supposed to be similar but i find it to be more like flashback instead.
>>98899386There's nothing wrong with top down if the intent is right.Gothic horror and greek myth are essentially folklore now. There's nothing "hat set"-y about that anymore than Lorwyn would be a fucking hat set. Public domain stories and concepts have always been an aspect of Magic.Hat sets were something completely different. It was about more contemporary tropes, usually inspired by cinema specifically, and involving characters from other planes engaging with those tropes. The name "hat set" probably wouldn't even have stuck if it weren't for the fact that characters would appear on a plane and then have a one-off adventure in costume. Cowboys, detectives, 80s horror movie protagonists and so on. If they'd kept their own identity when visiting these worlds and the adventure they went on was less tropey, people probably would have had to find some other way to describe their feelings about it.
>>98898743SS is just an all around fun card and its OP, and based Seb art
>>98897673>Captain Picard>Mono-Whiteweird, I've always believed that if you had to put him as an MTG card, he'd be Azorius mana value 3 with two Iconic Abilities>Engage!>Make it so, Number 1for what these would do, I'm deep enough in the TNG lore but surely someone would know what to make of them
>>98897800While nobody can ultimately say anything about real sales since we don't have the stats, this exact same thing has happened in three LGSs in my city (big city in yurop), as the owners told me. They're trying to dump their TMNT and spiderman, but barely anyone wants them. Even FF, which had a big initial demand, didn't square up to supply and has died down, so I'm told
>>98899405Madness already has enough support. I don't know what anyone's basis for saying Mayhem has replaced Madness is. Just like Surveil didn't replace Scry even though in most situations you'd rather surveilYou can build a Madness deck just fine. Maybe there won't be many new cards coming up for it, but you don't care about that if you've already built it.Madness isn't that complex it's just slightly fucky. I can see why someone would say Mayhem is meant to simplify Madness, because the card goes to grave and sits there until cast from grave at a time the card could otherwise be cast. That's slightly simpler, and it gives "leaves the grave" triggers to bootMadness is just that as part of discarding the card you put it in exile and then cast it from exile immediately. Because other card effects make you discard, sometimes it can feel unintuitive to sort of stop what you're doing and cast a spell which might be ignoring timing rules. It's not any more complex than sacrificing a creature to pay a cost and resolving the death of the creature before resolving the effect it died to pay for though
>>98899423The bubble must burst. No one is saying that UB doesn't sell to retailers and distributors, but demonstrably supply outweighs demand when it comes to customers and players.Someone in this thread or the previous one said that Hasbro doesn't have customer sales records, but they absolutely do from WPNs. Other retailers can also attempt to send stock back if it doesn't sell. So Hasbro knows that their "record sales" are essentially a con of tricking others into holding the bagThe longer it goes on, the more ill-will builds up in the community. No one likes being lied to, and no one likes watching a company lie to its shareholders to enable themselves to chase profit even further. The more WotC pushes UB in hopes of striking gold while ignoring player dissatisfaction, the more the game gets hollowed out.No good can come from forgetting that their "product" is a game first and foremost.
they'll never print new madness cards, never print new ninjutsu cards, SAD!
>>98899387Blergh I vomit all over the thread. It's like that part of the frame is a lost child in the mall. No idea where it or why, looking for something to anchor itself to.Drawing attention to how jank the transition between textures is, thin black text overlaying multiple different colors. It's just not in service of anything. It's why they filled it in with black. This is essentially already negative space but uglier. It's distracting and with no real purpose. Better just to unify it with a block of black so it's less distracting
>>98899440ninjutsu will probably come back in kamigawa next year. However i don't think madness is coming in any new set unless it's a special set like modern/vintage master
>>98898842I like Andrea Menguccu because he's a leftoid but didn't give in to that. He openly badmouths commander and UB without the "uwuu just my options" hugbox addenda
>>98897732I really like some of the Tenth Edition stuff.
Is it hypocritical that I am fine with Universes Beyond in Commander format, but it bothers me in Standard format? My argument is that for Commander format, Universes Beyond is "opt in", you choose to make your deck, and choose with no consequence because it is a casual format. In Standard, you have to play the netdeck, even if it contains Universes Beyond cards, unless you "opt out" and make an objectively worse deck and get worse game-results.Does that make sense? Or is it schizo-ramblings? Please let me know. Have a nice day.
>>98899531Nah it makes sense. I'm staunchly anti UB but at least in commander you can build a playgroup of like minded players and "opt out" of it as you say. The very nature of standard, pauper, modern etc doesn't allow for that since you go to the tourney and encounter everything in the wild, you can't opt out
My jank is much better than yours. Bleeding edge jank, if you will. There is also flavour, yes much flavour, but it is usually bitter. God DAMN I love "may" triggers.
Is there any reason a b3 deck wouldn't want the one ring? Genuinely asking. $100 staple lol

>>98899531I remember getting recommended a video about it but the problem with UB is that it is accelerating magic just having yugioh archetype style design but with a set rotation and the cards potentially being much more expensiveweve had multiple ubs that are recycling a very specific card type (lesson, arguably spacecraft though it only started existing within standard right now anyway, likely arcane in the next marvel set) but making it into a fully supported thing rather than a gimmick with a specific interactionand every in universe set is either adding generic value or a mechanic that's only intended for and balanced for use in the limited play of the set itselfso while magic isn't making new 1 card combos every set and adding them to nostalgia slop, it's coin flipping every new mechanic being a viable strategy that seldom cares about stuff in other sets or is designed to acknowledge it (see how many self-cost reducing elementals were released after sunderflock)Avatar being the most cancerous UB set despite going under the radar for "fitting in" as long as you ignore the faux anime designs is entirely because it decided to mimic actual mtg mechanics and revamp a card type that wasn't supposed to get good cards with good cards, and it along with the Vivi blunder is also probably going to prevent future UB from doing anything unique or flavorful that isn't just power creeping existing stuff or "balancing" older cards to make the set feel more mtg aligned, see the fucking artifact with scapeshift taped on when that effect has nothing to do with the thing depicted in the card

>>98900251>>98900264Fuck. Well, time to spill the beans I guess. This is what I'm doing. Ignore the manabase, I'm going to pimp it out when I get time. >https://moxfield.com/decks/SBZSnJHYo0ijA2lO2k3azgMonstrosity wont work on an enchantment, I just checked the oracle. Mirror entity will work, but some combo lines wont actually do anything because the things dont have haste. Really, I'm thinking about cutting Devoted Druid altogether for a land or hapatra yawgmoth or some shit, but I know if I think hard enough there is something that will make it worthwhile. The deck is psychotic because it's all about turning hatebears into enchantments then plowing house with normal aristocrats stuff. The solemnity broodmoth boromir shit is nice, and Avacyn I THINK is quite spicy because boneman is a may trigger. I built it because my brother is entering a tournament, and he asked me for something prisony and insane; as the demonic entity he consults for power, I tried to oblige.
Magic night blogpost>one-lander hand>has flayer husk to ninjutsu early into a Yuffie to steal an early mana rock>Donatello to copy my artifacts >Dowsing Dagger for ramp>Buster Sword to curve into off the Dowsing Dagger mana>greed keep>draw for turn>no land but I've still got a turn>crack fetch, surveil>mill nonland>miss land drop on second turn>no second land drop til turn 4>but a ninjutsu'd yuffie lets me steal a mana rock off Davros>yuffie immediately gets edicted by Davros player I stole the rock from so I lose it>turn 5 get 3rd land drop and play commander>Syr Konrad player edicts it for no other value>by the time I've recovered a semblance of a board I've eaten 15 commander from the Davros player repeatedly swinging at me to farm triggers>the Syr Konrad player randomly wipes the board and my life total tanks>Davros player Blood for the Blood Gods and I end up dying to aoeIt's my own fault for the terrible game, but god I did not expect to eat shit from TWO edicts. It didn't help that the fourth player was a saga Vorinclex "Phyrexian Tribal" theme deck vs. three bracket 3s. The Davros player was the only other competent player at the table. Inexplicably Syr Konrad lost with 12+ mana, Mindcrank, Meathook Massacre and a Grim Servant tutor. He absolutely deserved to be punished for not putting more focus on the Konrad in any other circumstance.
>>98900422TL;DR (statement, not query)
>>98899830you can drop the ugly alt name marker that gets in the way of the art. Wizards did it for their official UW proxies
It's sad to see the current state of edge. UB truly destroyed this game. Last time I played was one year ago, too bad I'm too attached to my decks to sell it
>>98900446That makes it a functionally identical card, not an alt name, one allows you to include multiples, the other does not.IE; krenko's command = dragon fodder.
this is a pretty good card i think
>>98900018G-Guys?
>>98900422All this said, I'm looking for a hipster ninjutsu commander if anyone's got any recs. I own a planeswalker Kaito I've never gotten to use, so preferably dimir at minimum.
>>98900603he's not really hipster
>>98900637He's not really a ninjutsu commander despite saying ninjutsu either.
>>98900458No. The =SLD at the bottom of the card followed my the number makes it the same card from a rules perspective. They primarily did this with the Street Fighter and Stranger Things secret lairs. But you still can't include extra copies based on that, because they count as the same card.

i think it's pretty hilarious that dranith magistrate was printed in Ikoria to combat companions but with the companion errata he no longer does anything against companions at all
>old dude dies>wotc suits rub their hands together and salivate at the amount of money this is going to make them.I know people who are going to buy 3 times what they were originally because of this.
>>98900804wrong he was printed to sell product by giving commander players another chase card like Kinnan
>Spiderman? Marvel? Avatar?! These all break the setting.>STARTREK?! 40k REPRINTS?! My wallet and dick are ready I hate my friends

>>98901094Is it really so difficult to believe that I think it's more interesting for things to be seperate entities and don't want every game I play to turn into Ready Player One?https://youtu.be/UCHJwu7ozwo

>>98901100There's been 60+ plus posts pissbabying about UB in this thread. Sure a lot of it is samefagging (and some trolling), but still, that's almost 20% of the thread space taken up by offtopic bullshit. Meanwhile the actual thread dedicated to actually hating UB that the original creator BEGGED the jannies to stop deleting for being a useless spam general has gotten a whopping 12 posts total in the same time period and is a dead zone currently teetering on archiving with only 1xx posts to its name. This is the COMMANDER general. It's for talking about COMMANDER, not for crying and dilating all day every day about Wizard's 3rd party brand partnerships. If you don't like Chekov's art or you think his mechanics don't fit the character and want to complain about that, fine - but if you don't like the fact Chekov and Star Trek are in the game at all and you complain about that you're an off topic spamming faggot. You annoying faggots have a general already, we're all well aware of how much of a butthurt manchild you all are about this is no longer being the heckin wholesome basedarino Christian game with only lame wizards IP characters in it that it was in 1997 (30 years ago). We don't need 20% of every fucking COMMANDER thread dedicated to off topic pissbabying about something 99% of the playerbase doesn't care about and which Wizards sure as fuck doesn't care about.

>>98899405this 1-Drop fucks
I am worried about actually having to decide how many of these my deck will need. Is there an easy way to calculate that does not involve an online tool?
>>98901185I think it's fine to complain about it but every thread it's just the same argument over and over again with the same card art and same screencaps. Why do you think anons wouldn't say something when the majority of threads in a general is just dedicated to bitching and griping about the same shit everyday?
>>98901210pshht, hey Kid!Wanna buy some Magic?

>>98901230That Mountain is phenomenal, vibes well with Akoum Refuge
>>98901249I'll take it for anything, but it's one of those things that used to be cheap and ubiquitous and is now expensive and hard to find in good quantity, one of many reasons to just have proxies printed these days.
>>98899405shes very good but I prefer florian the card selection is through through the roof
>>98901239Nah, I know. It was pure greed. It just would've been an excellent hand and I even had a surveil look. Statistically I'm favored to see a land turn 2, with 35 left in the deck post-fetch. Something like 75% of the time if my math's right?
>>98901142You failed to account for one factor: This entire game has a culture of impotently whining while their spending habits are completely divorced from what they say they want. Look at all the retards saying "Wahh bring back blocks it will save the story" when the reality is sets 2 and 3 of a block consistently underperformed and the vast majority of the worst-selling sets of all-time were the result of blocks piling another 2 sets into a setting people were tired of by set 1. Hell, even 2 set "blocks" reserved for special events produced MOM which was a complete disaster. The reason the -UB thread doesn't have anyone posting in it is because the only thing the vast majority of this playerbase does is complain.
>>98901132Why do you think that's why I came back? A new set comes out like every 3 weeks. I came back to post my shrek annecdote.
>>98901142Bruh writing me The Anatomy of Melancholy. I dont discuss UB at all because I do not think about it; the quality of the thread speaks for itself and your behaviour exemplifies my exact complaint.
>>98901339>A new set comes out like every 3 weeksFair enough, I'm more familiar with the pacing of old when blocks existed rather than single sets.

>>98901356My brother got me a box of reality fracture, but I havent bought cards since like... MH3, and even then that was just a couple of packs. I didnt even realize that was 2024, which was two years ago holy fuck. I only even hear about trickledown cards in other formats because I dont actively follow it.
>>98901239If I have sol ring plus a mana rock I always keep a 1 lander
>>98899531no. ty for writing this. its my exact problemI dont even mind UB being draftable. But it should've gone straight to Legacy/Modern (maybe). They are so fucking off plan for whatever they THOUGHT would be the sets in standard. Shouldn't have ever changed and delayed rotation. Standard to flourish needs a reasonably paced release and capped set count. No one fucking cares to keep up with Spiderman, Marvel, Hobbit, all while they can't purchase Bloomburrow or EOE to build 60 cardEDH already had proxies and fan builds, UB fits it. I begrudgingly admit it after 5 years, standard? Nope.
