This is the OSR WF thread. This is a for a special group of OSR games, along with OSR-adjacent and retro games. You can talk about all OSR (Pre-2e D&D, & retroclones) & OSR-adjacent (Mork Borg, SWN etc) games without distinction here, Specific reminder that in spite of certain aggressive trolling, ACKS is absolutely included, along with all ACKS-like games and the other Autarch products. When ACKS is discussed, persistent trolls have a tendency to be disruptive. If you want to seethe about ACKS, do so elsewhere; respectful ACKS discussion only here, please.Remember, report and ignore all trolling.Thread Question:What are some of your favorite traps? What do you think of Melan's trap listing in his new gamemastering book? Is it better than the ACKS trap list?
>>98922258As already noted, please do not troll in this general.
What differentiates this thread from /osrg/, /todd/, /nusr/, Open OSR, and the rest? I want to know where to talk appropriately
>>98922280This one allows OSR-adjacent/NuSR games. /todd/ and /nusr/ did the same, but neither has existed for a long time. This general was started to avoid a persistent anti-ACKS troll in the Open OSR general.
>>98922249>What are some of your favorite traps? I don't have a favourite one, but I love the ACKS system, picrel.>What do you think of Melan's trap listing in his new gamemastering book? Is it better than the ACKS trap list?I haven't read it. I don't think the PDF has come out yet, but I am really looking forward to it.
>>98922249We can tell you aren't the same OP as >>98900368 because you messed up the spacing. We welfags like good spacing. It is part of our different community vibe.
>>98922280>What differentiates this thread from /osrg/, /todd/, /nusr/, Open OSR, and the rest? I want to know where to talk appropriatelyNot the OP. /osrg/ is for first decade D&D. Based on the OP's description, this one has a broader scope.
>>98922306I changed it on purpose to be more compact, I think it looks better. Sorry if you don't agree.
>>98922313(We can change it back next time BTW if you guys don't like it)
>>98922294>This general was started to avoid a persistent anti-ACKS troll in the Open OSR general. As an ACKS fag I do appreciate the olive branch, although there's still the wrinkle of claiming that 2e is OSR. Let's let it slide for now.
>>98922343No, I also fixed that after feedback, have another look at the OP. This is still an OSR thread after all.
>>98922356Ah, missed that. Then I would suggest explicitly including 2e as on topic in the OSR-adjacent list next time.
>>98922370I'll think about it for sure!Anyway, for now, how about that thread question?
>>98922396About the OP, Delta's list of traps is pretty good too.
>>98922438>block, falling, spiked, poisona bit overkill lol
>>98922442It's by OED levels, so that's on the equivalent of level 10 or so in AD&D. Seems reasonable to me.
>>98922601Or they go running to the mods and get told to fuck off (retard), then go create their own thread without blackjack and hookers where they seethe for months on end, pissing, shitting, whining and acting like a retard while the thread they were fucking up carries on without them and gets better now the cancer has been removed.Funny you forgot to mention that option little buddy.
>>98922614While I respect the cause of your ire, please don't reply to trolls ITT; Leave that in the previous thread. The hater's manifestoposting and shitting it up again, yes, but just let him do it since the thread's autosaging anyway. If you have to respond to him, please do it there.
>>98922642Sadly anon bullying the godless and retarded has become part of these threads.I mean, given these threads were started by him as an attempt to hijack the /osrg/, can you blame anyone? But you did tweak the OP, so I'll leave it at that.He won't mind you, soon as he sees 'ACKS welcome' he's going to start throwing his shit around the chimp enclosure.
>>98922719He already had a post removed from this thread, so...
>>98922719
What modern/still in production minature lines have the most OSR feel?Love OSR art, the vibes and the general lethality but I'm more a skirmish game player - been playing around with an OSR inspired homebrew skirmish ruleset that I want some minatures for
>>98923571Don't know but I would like an answer as well. Would you consider free 3d printer models?
Can you tell me about your experience with cy_borg? Can you make non-combat fun?
>>98923571Warmonger has some nice ones if you're into the older citadel style. Their historical range has the more grounded sorts if you need those. EM4 has a decent range of old school plastics in their fantasy line. Reaper has quite an assortment of older feeling models. Ral Partha is still a thing somehow.
>>98924328P. sure at least half of these are the Wargames Foundry ex-Citadel wizards, no?
>>98924349I think so, its run by the Ansell iirc and there are some of the old sculptors working there but I don't keep up with the details. >>98924071nta but I always think those are interesting. There's a bunch of them and I haven't taken the time to sort through it at all. There's a bunch of boutique artsy models that are in the areas of old school feeling models as well from things like Ramshackle games.
>>98922249My favourite traps are the good old fashioned weighted pit traps, maybe tripwire linked spikes or something similar. Many moons ago I read (I think on /tg/) about a DM who used kobolds as vietcong proxies to terrify his players - I sometimes like to do similar.>>98924378I honestly can't tell if those are good or bad. Which given they're apparently 'boglanders' is I guess the point.
>>98924584>I honestly can't tell if those are good or bad.My conclusion is that they're shit models but I like them.
Duplicate thread created>>98924515>>98924515>>98924515
>>98924695Yes, hopefully the mods will act.
>>98924584>>98924609They're sort of lumpy but I like them. From a composition standpoint the lines are, left to right, >ok I guess >good enough >actually interesting A lot of the sculpting ends up chunkier in the current indie wargame skirmish scene. I can never tell if its imitating older material limitations and skill level on purpose, due to having similar limitations and skill levels themselves, or more likely some combination of both. There used to be several posters here who were making models and bestiaries. The Simpso guy and likely others.
>>98924328>>98924349So I checked up on this and apparently:#1 all of those are the Time Warped Wizards; some of them don't look very sorcerous to me but whatever#2 Warmonger is apparently the Wargames Foundry label for fantasy minis, most of which seem to be ex Citadel.
>>98924695He's intentionally bumping it to keep it above this thread in the catalog, lol. Pathetic
>>98926958bump
>>98926958Kek, he did it again.
>>98926958And again! Lmao
>>98922310So this is categorically not an OSR thread
>>98927139Do you like Stonehell?
badabump
>>98927574Tomb of Horrors is very deadly.
>>98928194I like Dark Sun! Thoughts?
>>98928168I've adapted this for the game I'm running (it's not set in the Auran Empire)It's only a single floor dungeon designed for a low level party to get their feet wet (since a number of my players haven't played DnD before let alone ACKs or similar retroclones.)I've turned the stone into the Blood Lotus Stone and not included the mutating pool stuff but I think the general ideas are similar.
>>98928508I think you could easily put the Stonehell megadungeon somewhere in dark sun!
>>98928620Very organic! This made me a better DM.We really ought to focus on the troll thread at >>98924515 though
>>98928636Hello fellow organic poster. Learn how to DM at the ACK forums: https://forum.autarch.co/c/general-acks-forums/10
>>98928699Love that forum.
