702.37e Any time you have priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control with a morph ability face up. This is a special action; it doesn’t use the stack (see rule 116). To do this, show all players what the permanent’s morph cost would be if it were face up, pay that cost, then turn the permanent face up. (If the permanent wouldn’t have a morph cost if it were face up, it can’t be turned face up this way.) The morph effect on it ends, and it regains its normal characteristics. Any abilities relating to the permanent entering the battlefield don’t trigger when it’s turned face up and don’t have any effect, because the permanent has already entered the battlefield.

love playing knights, hate goblins. simple as (pic rel). I do white black knights with Squall Seed Merc as the general, although I've wanted to add a 3rd color since Herald of Hoofbeats is blue and a silly card but I don't want the common general of Sidar Jabroni as commander.

Red would be cool and theres a few interesting red knight cards but 2 color is still good. and potentially cheaper land-wise (although a plateau is what still $170 for a beat copy?)

I don't mind zombies but not super into them. I have some zombie tribal cards in a deck just to support a commander but its not zombies deck (Thraximundar, which is also just as much tribal Assassins as it is zombies)

if ur-dragon wasn't done to death dragons might be cool although I do have a Smaug the Impenetrable combo sloppa deck although again, not a ton of the tribal dragons thing, but several support cards (dragon speaker shaman, draconic visitor etc).

I wanted to do tribal Sphinges but haven't done it yet. and my favorite new Sphinx is green white (Kwia, kicks a lot of ass) but the tribal commanders, at least from what I can see the best ones are white blue black including the Ur Sphinx and the recent SLD reprinted one. Not so sure I'd care to even do another 5 color deck though.

next tribal decks I'm brewing are either red white black soldiers (although I cant decide if Caesar from Fallout or Colonel Mustard which he's just r/w should be commander). I dont have a r/w/b yet though and blue/black thieves (rogues tribal).

>What tribal deck(s) do you love or absolutely hate playing against?
"Do you have it" tribes are utter slop. Things like elfball, slivers. Decks that rush out the gate and blow their loads, but you sandbagged a toxic deluge you mulled for so now they lose.
>>
>>98924381
he's desperately trying to justify his internal take that blue samut was going to break the format (it was the #1 most overrated card of the year)
>>
>>98924472
Tribal decks are best played against other tribal decks in a race war game.
Only wizard tribal really stands it's ground in normal EDH.
>>
>>98924472
then again how many boardwipes do you have in your deck other than toxic deluge? the risk-reward calculation heavily favors forcing your opponents having the silver bullet
it's also a crucial lesson to voltron players to not kill the control player because you need him to wipe the board and you'll have a better chance fighting the control player than outdamage creature vomit

>then again how many boardwipes do you have in your deck other than toxic deluge? the risk-reward calculation heavily favors forcing your opponents having the silver bullet
It depends on the deck, of course. But it's also just a boring as shit binary. The "risk" is you don't really play much game at all, the "reward" is you win.
>>
>>98924500
No the guy who's been spamming toski for years also has the whole 30 life retarded statement and now he see's Gobanon is getting lots of attention so he's taken up genning stupid images in a bid to finally, after all these years, maybe get attention too, but he gave it away by wrapping all his bullshit in one image together with his obvious envy of Gobanon.
Just ignore it like his other two bids for attention, I'm really proud of this general for not ever responding to toski or 30 life, don't ruin it.

What do you guys think about precons that feature infinite combos? Do you think it is power creep? Perhaps this is WOTC steering Commander in the direction they want?

I am (mostly) a precon-only player because I am too autistic (or maybe, not autistic enough) to engage with the bracket-system and rule-0. I prefer to play with no combos. The thought "infinite combos are allowed, if they are printed in a precon by default" doesn't sit well with me. So I power-down my precons (I bring in a few card substitution, and ask the table in rule-0 "this precon contains a combo, can I still play it? Otherwise I will sub some cards"). This is a flimsy solution, but it works for me, for now.

Do you think precons containing infinites is going to become a more common thing? Do you think WOTC makes these considerations when they make infinites in precons (or do they just print new cards wily-nily)?
>>
Hey guys is this card okay or is it too weak? Pls ignore the snow part in snow creature.
>>
>>98924633
>Perhaps this is WOTC steering Commander in the direction they want?
a deck having an infinite is fine and wotc is telling people to expect that in everyone's deck, but what wotc doesn't want is for everyone to be racing for their infinite asap ala cedh
but really there's no way to argue just what would be an acceptable 'consistency' in being capable of having an early infinite so really the answer is that wotc wants you to be able to combo off, just in the 'appropriate time' (that's turn 9 in b2 btw)
>>
>>98924646
It is WOTC tradition that Wolf and Werewolfs have to be unplayably bad. So it is probably too strong in that sense. It's not gamebreaking. It's like Rin & Seri but worse. Shouldn't it be a legendary so it can be your Commando?
>>
>>98924633
It takes luck to set up an infinite when you're working with precons, so it's generally fine. People are less fine if you fine-tune a deck so you can infinite, especially at lower brackets when shit's more casual.
Precons never design with an infinite in mind, at least for now. So you should be okay.
>>
>>98924699
No, people are not "fine" with infinite.
It was situationally amusing 20 fucking years ago.
Now it's " for fuck's sake, this again? we get it you can use the fucking internet to break the game, good for you kiddo"

>>
>>98924633
>precon-only player
It's hard to imagine a more miserable way to play the game. That being said, no. I imagine they don't expect to print infinites but Wizards just sucks at evaluating power so things sneak by sometimes. Same way we get day one errata of cards. Things just slip by. I wouldn't expect it to be intentional unless every precon group since then had at least one infinite included.
>>
>>98924712
This should specify 'untapped' Wolf or Dog. Kinda messy either way though
>>
>>98924722
>unless every precon group since then had at least one infinite included
nowadays at least 1 precon of every main set has an infinite/altwincon
no better example than edge of eternities, where the hearthull deck has gitrog dakmor and the inspirit deck has darksteel reactor
>>
I fucking love Goblin women
>>
>>98924722
It's not even as if infinites are strictly disallowed from precons. The rules of Bracket 2 is to not have a 2-card combo, and for a game to go for 8+ turns. The Tidus deck fails bracket 2 not for having an infinite, but for potentially winning on turn 3 with a god draw.
>>
>>98924805
both world shaper and counter blitz are b2, the issue is that they have a chance to win early, but the simple solution is for them to sandbag it
counting whether a combo is 2 card or 3 card is dumb and misses the whole point; why would it matter what the components of my combo is if i ended the game at the right time? are you really going to tear your hair out because i went jace wielder of mysteries + dcon on turn 10?
also it's funny that edhrec insists that twinflame + dualcaster mage is a 2 card combo even though you need another creature for it

The attitude is that you "pull your punches" during deck-building / deck-selection, and when you are actually playing the game you "play to win".
>>
>>98924834
People tend to just not put consultation in their casual decks either way, it's just associated so heavily with cedh that most people seem to have a consensus to not play it anywhere else

>>98924922
No, it's been thoroughly demonstrated that this makes endless arguments.
the GC list is not a hard binary qualifier for brackets 3/4, it is possible to have 8 GC's and be a 3, it is possible to have none and be a 4.
If you include infinites you're advertising that you want to play in 4.
>>
>>98924941
When your infinite is clunky enough that it literally can't be fully deployed until the appropriate turn for the bracket, yes.
>>
>>98924941
I think there was a misunderstanding or reading comprehension issue. I was advocating powering-down precons because they are too strong. My position is that if a table gave me permission to play a precon that contained an infinite, and the situation came up where I could infinite early, I would go for it. I already "punched down" by selecting to play a precon.

This conversation has proven to be unpleasant. Maybe I should just take the infinites out and not even ask the table about it.
>>
>>98924951
>it is possible to have 8 GC's and be a 3
incorrect, b3 specifically says 3 GCs max
>If you include infinites you're advertising that you want to play in 4.
also incorrect, infinites are part of the game and even the shittiest archetypes like mill have brudivac + maddening cacophony for infinite mill
>>

>>
>>98924968
Bracket system also states it is a guideline, not stone-written
Also bracket system says things like
>Deliberately holding a fast combo until turn seven doesn't make it Bracket 3
And given that you can play rocks on every turn, then rituals too, EVERY infinite combo fails to meet this.

The composition largely matters in terms of how easy it is to notice and disrupt the combo.
>a 2 card combo even though you need another creature for it
You could equally make this case for Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond, since those don't do anything unless there's another source of lifegain or damage. At a certain point something still counts as a 2-card combo if the third piece is something generic.
Same way that nobody counts basic lands as part of a combo even though you need mana.
>>

>>
>>98925046
you just make it up with what you have then you playtest it on forge or untap and you gradually finetune it
if you're completely clueless, you could go on edhrec and pick your commander's average deck at your chosen bracket and budget as a template to work on
>>
>>98925007
The point is you moron, that gavin's statements are incoherent bullshit.
He even used sanguine bond + exquisite blood as a mana intense late-game infinite
except sol ring, jet medallion, pristine talisman make it pop off turn 4 or 5 easy and he also says bracket 3 means games last AT LEAST until turn 6.
this does not mean you build to end the game turn 7 either, this means you build to make winning IMPOSSIBLE before turn 7.
but gaving is, again, a moron who can't do basic math on the card combo he specifically named, much less look at edhrec to find the many thoroughly documented infintie combos.
So while his words are hypocritical his intent is fairly clear.
Keep the infinite combos out of bracket 1-3, don't use his stupidity as an excuse to go "tee-hee" and slot it in knowing his example failed to meet basic EDH mana ramp standards.
He also made the asinine statement of "intentional combos bad, accidental combos okay"
Except this is the era of netdecking so "accidental" infinite? Fuck. Right. Off.
intention can't be objectively determined, but deck capacity can.
>>
>>98924705
^^ This retard 100% plays green, and DEFINITELY runs Craterhoof. Some colors quote literally are unable to make a meaningful impact to win unless the threat of a combo exists. This is a direct result of printing cards for 1v1 20 life and then scaling everything up to 1v1v1v1 40 life. If you don't like it, rally to have starying life totals be 20.
>>
>>98925058
>Keep the infinite combos out of bracket 1-3
you cannot close your eyes from the fact that mtg incentives combos and that it's part of the game
if you're incapable of defending yourself from a turn 9 infinite in b2 then you should play in b1 and have exhibition matches where infinites are banned outright

>holding the combo and waiting for turn 7 doesn;t count, that it CAN be deployed before then matters
Forget ramp, rocks and rituals. One of those is played turn 4, the other turn 5, using the creature or life gain you deployed on turns 1,2 or 3, you pop off on turn 5, so in a vacuum his stated example violates his own stated rules.

combos just seem wholly inappropriate in most of commander anyway. its about your commander defeating the opponents. being the last man standing

>>98924722
theres lots of new chuds getting into the game and thats how people are stepping their toes into the game. either the Jace precon 4 color sloppa or one of the mono color Foundations ones. then they add a couple cards and then start getting the idea to brew up shit

>>98925058
Gayvin's opinions on commander are irrelevant in the greater whole of the game

>>98925046
what do you mean by that? you pick the cards you want to play. you put them in the deck. then you put in other cards that will help you support and buff your main parts of your deck, or protect your commander. and you have mana dorks, mana rocks and land to round it out.

which the answer is a commander deck needs 37 lands, or 38 if more than 5 of those lands are colorless, and you should have a minimum of 2 basics of each type but more is better, especially in 2 color.

>>98925044
which ever one you want. do the red green white Cloud ff7 deck and add this dude from ff5 in it (pic rel) but switch Tifa to the commander and replace the card Dispatch with Swords to Plowshares and Chaos Warp with Beast Within and its probably also a good idea to put in Path to Exile and Disenchant. and one land over to a Demolition Field

Formidable is a pseudo keyword, which means it doesn't do anything. You need to write out the entire "if creatures you control have total power 8 or greater, you can't sacrifice this enchantment."
Alternately, the slightly less insane "at the beginning of your end step, sacrifice this enchantment unless creatures you control have total power 8 or greater"

>>98924712
"Whenever an opponent draws a card except the first one they draw in each of their draw steps, you may tap a wolf or dog. If you do, that creature deals 2 damage to that opponent."

>>98924646
It's "name, title" ignore the marvel sets, they aren't real.
Don't use X here, just "a number of <tokens> equal to the number of nontoken <creature type>s you control. Otherwise X would need to be the same number both times. Probably didn't need to be "then" either.
"When @ enters the battlefield, create a number of 2/2 green Wolf creature tokens equal to the number of nontoken Dogs you control and a number of 1/1 Dog creature tokens equal to the number of nontoken Wolves you control."
@ is LEGENDNAME, the name before the comma, in this case 'Texas'. Because this is s legendary creature name. Also none of this card is blue.

I think you misunderstand. I have no issue with people who started with a precon and build from there. The point is it's a foundation to build from and grow the deck form there. What sheldon said alone is one piece of the puzzle, the other piece is what has been repeated a dozen times in each of the last half dozen threads AND in this one.
If you can win before turn 7, you're in bracket 4 or 5.
This means you can have non-infinite combos that do not WIN by themselves in bracket 3.
Combo doesn;t mean "Card X + Card Y = Card Z = Win"
Combo means "Card X + Card Y + Card Z = Cool Thing that exceeds the sum of it's parts"

Local gamestore doesn't have them (yet) and maybe never will because the order is still not shipped "due to delays"
Also: What price is acceptable for all 5? MSRP is 30$ per deck but that does not include tax, because amerimutts love not actually knowing how much something will cost them. What a shitshow. I feel reaffirmed that playing precon-only is the correct way to play this game (especially pick-up games with randoms at the LGS. At least with friends you can curate the vibes a bit better). I don't want to discuss the intricacies of what combo is allowed, and why and under what condition. I will only play precons, and if 'The Lord of Games' Mark Rosewater put a combo in the precon, then it was divined from above that it is allowed and bitching about it is strictly prohibited. I don't want to discuss or police what decks my opponents will play either.

Nobody gets (You)s because you're all retards; here it is plain and simple:

Commander is a game of high variance. Realistically you're looking at over 50 unique cards in the 99 even in decks that are hilariously overdone on mana. Unless you're doing ultra stupid lean mulligans, you can realistically play two games back to back where you will not share a single card between the two. The reason why Brackets discuss the 'expectation' of round numbers and win conditions is because balancing the game on the threat of a christmas-land peel out is fucking stupid.

Before I took it out, my mill deck could just drop pemmins aura, paradise mantle and the commander (Neerdiv) and mill the whole table turn 4 (and probably turn 3 if I tried). Calling the deck Bracket 4 for that was silly if I had few ways to make it happen and it was only going to show up one in like 30 or 40 games; but also because of its inconsistency I took the combo out so it wouldn't do that randomly. Having a deck sometimes win early for reasons outside of your control is also possible; the point is though that the deck has an expected performance profile that matches other decks of a similar power level.

The criticisms that brackets are 'vibes based' or 'not hard rules' are disingenuous to begin with: outside of tournament play which I find extremely inadvisable in the format the bracket rules discuss expectations because the idea of the game is played on a standard of collective agreement and sportsmanship rather than having judges and referees. Welcome to big-kid Magic, you and everyone else at the table are the ones who decide what kind of game you want to play and the Brackets are just lines on the asphalt so you can all agree where the goalposts go and how big the penalty box is.

Your autistic megalomania is noted and inline with the expectations of a multiplayer game; the solution that you may not have considered is 'if I'm going to be an antisocial shitlord and not play in good faith, people other than other antisocial shitlords won't play with me twice'

>a rule zero player
I'm sure you imagine this to be some scathing insult, but the idea that someone who talks to other people and comes to agreement on how to play and have fun is something undesirable and craven says a lot about your social skills if not your cognitive abilities
>>
>>98925799
>'if I'm going to be an antisocial shitlord and not play in good faith, people other than other antisocial shitlords won't play with me twice'
incorrect
my goal is to have a deck with a combo that will successfully gaslight the pod that it's 'inconsistent enough', i get to win AND the pod isn't salty, win-win
that's really what it boils down to if turn limits aren't enforced

>>

No, synergy is when the two cards do the expected thing that is written right on the card but do it better next to another.
Stealing your creature with Act of Treason to then sacrifice it to a fling is a bonus interaction not written on either card. Fling does not steal, Treason does not sacrifice or damage.
If the card says "whenever you do X gain X life" and then you have another card that does X, that is synergy. If it's repeatable, it's an Engine.

It's fine really, since you fixed it I'll just include it on the eventual next order of cards to have options for the deck, so far I've got 15 of the ones you've made since I ordered put into a folder for that, one more at that number really won't hurt.

Nice. It's definitely not bracket 4, but I always thought a solid bracket 3 most of the time. At best a bracket 4 blowout, at worst bracket 2.
