What made them so popular? They are not the best, they are not the most detailed, they are not even faithful to real cars yet somehow they have the biggest appeal.
>>11536711Idk when I was a kid I preferred Matchbox for details and accuracy. I thought the Hot Wheels made up cars were super ugly but maybe they appealed to many people and when they got those, they just stuck with getting Hot Wheels instead of other brands
>>11536711not a collector, but it's fun seeing tiny cars with wacky designs. I also assume it's a shared desire that REAL car collectors have, without the money you lose from those prices including maintenance
>>11536711Transport yourself back to the far off year of 1964. What are your options?
I had a ton of Hot Wheels and Sizzlers as a kid. I've just rediscovered them and I think they are getting back to that creative design format that made them popular to begin with.I really love the new stuff, but they just need to produce simple tracks and not all this gimmick crap.

Because Hot Wheels is cool. That's it.Look, here are some examples.Matchbox 70s Nissan, some cheap Chink car, Maisto Mercedes, random Volvo and Pontiac similar to OP.While they are mostly good looking replicas of real cars, the Hot Wheels one stands out with flashy paint and cool flame prints.
>>11537564I was born in 64, I had all these lines. I still have a few Gerry Anderson toys from Dinky.
They're cheap and plentiful with both real world and fantasy car designs so they appeal to both kids and collectors. Hot Wheels (and Matchbox for that matter) has an incredibly low barrier of entry because you could walk into basically any store that sells toys and find them for less than $2 a car.
>>11539412that blue t2 is kino
>>11539412I just saw shows like Joe-90, Captain Scarlett and the Mysterions on MeTV Toons. I wasn't born until 67 so I missed out on those. Damn!
>>11539412i had that one on the far left at one point when i was little and managed to break the mechanism in short order.
>>11539945Used to be cheap. Tariffs are making them more and more expensive.
for me its the crashy ones with destruction physics
>>11544284Crack-Ups were dope.
>>11543609$1.19 at Walmart. 79 cents at the dollar stores. I don't see any tariffs making them more expensive.
>>11543609Mainlines ARE cheap. Of course collector-centric lines like Premium and Silver series are going to be more expensive, but your average blue card Hot Wheels car will be at most $1.19. It is a little more expensive than it used to be, yes, but it's still more than affordable.
because its cool. especially before 2010. hotwheels original design is super cool back then. sweep coupe, 1/4 mile coupe, the stingray corvette, back then when i was a child, i dont care about the accuracy. i care about if the car is fast
