Shockwave is getting an aquatic altmode, will it be a right side up submarine or a sea creature?

For impulse purchase, I say these two are pretty good

The transformation is solid. the paint job is decent. It's only too bad that I won't be getting aerial bots for superion- but I might get either the harrier or F4 mold.

The only issue I have is with megatronus.
For some reasons the pinned hip joints are always loose in the sideway movements with larger figure. Even 86 Optimus prime is like this too. And the tank mode the chassis just way too thin, probably a budget thing. I think with the way it is designed and third party should be able to make a decent tank by adding more thickness.

Anyway, I don't know why but when I play with both figures there were a bunch of loose tiny plastic chunks and pieces falling all over the place. And look closely it's like a 90% of the pinned holes still have the leftover pieces attached covering the hole. Are they really in that of a rush to get these out that they cannot even drill and punch the pins properly?
>>
>>11538462
out of the two deluxe aerialbot molds, slingshot is probably the better one in terms of transformation and alt mode cleanup. Firefight doesn't have an ugly headsculpt, so I'd wait for him.

Got mine yesterday, and I love him! He's a good modern update, though I know some people didn't care for the way the tail looks.
He's actually got some room for (unintended) weapon storage in both modes - you can hide his gun in his shark upper jaw in robot mode (the grooves clip in to the notches), and there's a gap behind his robot torso where you can tuck it in under his shark halves in beast mode if you want his mouth clear for biting things.

In Beast Mode, yes, and it still does that. The difference is that it attaches to his lower jaw (which becomes his feet in robot mode), but it also now can slot into his upper jaw on his back while in robot mode to store it, which is new.

>i've definitely seen longer legged skeletons than that.
Those were fake bones added as guesses. We didn't find a Spinosaurus specimen with its legs or tail until quite recently.
Everything in pink is all we had of Spinosaurus during its initial discovery; the yellow is stuff that came from related species (Baryonyx and Suchomimus) that was misidentified as Spinosaurus. The stuff in blue is what was found recently as of 2022, and the stuff in white has never been found and is entirely guesswork based on what we know other members of its family looked like. Sadly, this is the reality behind most fossil reconstructions you see in museums - they're mostly guesses based on a few scattered fragments here and there, hence why they're constantly subject to change as new specimens containing previously unknown fragments are discovered.
>>
>>11538765
It's hard to give hand painting tips simply because a lot of it is just leaning over time. You probably just had too much paint on the brush and didn't smooth it out because it looks a little like a lump to me. Again, I've not used Vallejo so I can't comment, but it reminds me of just needing your paint thinned a little.

Don't take it as a harsh criticism, it probably isn't even visible looking at the figure from any distance other than inspecting it closely.

>>11538734
I mean here's the thing about paint, and I learned this the hard way
you want a huge variety of bright, vibrant colors? you're buying paint meant for ~doing paintings~
it's cheap, but it's thick and goopy, and you have to really thin it out to get any kinds of results. The problem? there's very little pigment in there. it's relying on the thick goopy medium to carry it, but once thinned out, it's gonna take a billion coats

vallejo type shit is meant for ~miniatures~
Shit where you might only have one chance to get something painted properly, using a cat's whisker to make a pupil, so it has to make the first time count. It's a different -kind- of thick. more like interior house paint. and it has a surfactant that makes it spread out nice and evenly, even as it clings like a motherfucker. You can get most shit done in one or two coats, and that's including priming. but of course all that pigment means it costs a lot more, and it's harder to find the really bright colors.
>>
>>11538739
okay fair, though I'm not sure that's a brush mark. it looks almost perfectly circular and perfectly centered.

>>11538768
bullllshit. i've also seen 9 different mutually exclusive versions of the spine layout. they're making it up as they go. those limbs don't match whatsoever. no animal has such massive foredigits and gracile hind digits. They rely on the same genes to generate in the egg.
>2022

also Baryonyx is fucking cool and should get to be in dinosaur movies.

>>11538849

>>
I never really did much with the era, but I've been thinking about going back and collecting Armada era minicon combiners. Skyboom Shield, Requim Blaster, Star Saber, you all know the gang. How well do modern figures hold them? How do they look in those hands?

And besides Perceptor and the three/four weapon molds, were there any other notable minicon combiners from the era?

>eh just wait for this crunchy little kino to slap on out once it's ready for one hell of a cowabunga time to be had
>>
>>11538854
>bullllshit.
I assure you that's the truth. First thing's first, you've never seen an actual dinosaur bone, not even in a museum - they don't display them. What you've seen are casts, and again, most dinosaur fossils are actually missing close to 70% of their actual skeletons - the rest of what you're seeing are mockups either based on the corresponding parts from other specimens that happened to have the piece in question, or otherwise entirely made-up based on the scientists' best guesses for what they looked like. We had no idea what Spinosaurus' actual legs, hips, and tail looked like until the most recent fossil discovery in 2022 turned them up, so every skeleton on display before then had made-up legs. Same with the sail - we technically don't have a full one yet, though between the initial find and the newest one we're getting close. The only 100% confirmed part of Spinosaurus' arms and hands we have are two finger bones right now 0 the other bits are POSSIBLY Spinosaurus bones, but could also be from a Sucho - not enough bones were found at that site to confirm the species with certainty. This is how Paleontology works (or rather, how Paleontology proceeds to make shit up as it goes, hence why our view of certain dinosaurs is always changing).
>>
>>11538862
sanding before painting is for wood or 3d printed shit (the plastic kind, resin doesn't need it)
>>
>>11538901
anon, I'm fucking aware of that.
in fact it sounds like you agree with me
THINK for a second. do those forelimbs look capable of supporting the body on land whatsoever? Do you actually think bipedal locomotion could work with a body 18 times longer than the legs.. try to imagine it walking around.

this is the dumbest shit since that belly ribs bullshit.
>>
>>11538924
NTA, but isn't the whole reason why those guys are thought to live in the water is that they don't seem good at walking on land?
>>
>>11538927
Those are clearly theropod legs. they sit vertically under the body. How is that compatible with being primarily aquatic? what, does it doggy paddle them while the rest of its body undulates side to side?

Current theory has them hunting near coastlines, or bodies of water that aren't too deep.
>>
>>11538974
Anon, I'm okay with it being roughly a crocodile
the point I'm making is those legs make zero sense, in that shape, on that body, unless there are also forelimbs that he can walk on, quadrupoid style.
those classic spike-thumbed spino mitts absolutely would not work, they're theropod arms. Look at the scapular process. Look at the forearms. There's no way he's knucklewalking like an anteater. The legs just do not fit.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't think they will unless you REALLY fuck up by pulling on the joints. I only believe this because I was trying to tighten the joint on my first copy with a pin puncher because it is loose as fuck and I abused the shit out of that area because there's no real flat place to put the anchor end and not even so much as a mark.

Ended up just taking one of the plastic ties from his packaging and wrapping it inside of the joint and that held pretty good. Pretty funny that my first copy had loose shoulders and my second copy had really nice shoulder tolerances but the paint on the chest was a little fucked.

Having had both of them in hand, I vastly prefer the new mold. My only visual problems are that his waist is slightly off-center and he's got some gorilla arms
Otherwise he's much more proportional and really isn't lacking in sculped detail, he makes the legends look stumpy and spindly and awkward

The new one looks cheap. Like it's a 3rd party transformer. it has that "chinese 3rd party model" feel

- big
- less details
- glossy feel
- those 2 fucking peg-holes on his arms
- those simple windows on his legs
- that head with that empty dark void vizor

It literally just

>it's not GPS, it's the black parts that break
GPS got its name from the metallic swirled gold plastics that were known to crumble, but the term itself isn't restricted to just gold plastic itself. Any toy that's made with faulty plastics that rapidly degrade in a short period of time is said to have GPS, regardless of whether or not the crumbling plastic in question is actually gold.
So yes, he suffers from GPS.
>>
>>11539864
untrue. GPS is only used to describe swirled plastics. are you saying this black was metallic swirled?

There's a similar brittleness issue with some red plastics used in plamo, but that is always called red plastic syndrome. It's suspected to have a different cause, but it might be similar, like there's an excess of pigment powder destabilizing the plastic.

I thankfully don’t have problems with Optimus or Magnus but I’m still getting replacements. Hasbro are desperate to make right on this so it doesn’t kill Haslab.
>>
I still haven't opened my Omega Prime, but I also have a second copy (also unopened) which I'm gonna sell.
I've no idea what state either is in, so if I sell one and it has QC issues, would my buyer be able to contact Hasbro Pulse for replacement parts? Or would I have to on their behalf, since it was originally my order?
Also, is there any kinda deadline for getting replacements from Hasbro?

Your buyer couldn’t do anything on their own, Hasbro requires you to confirm the order number and original delivery address to get the replacement. I would absolutely recommend contacting Hasbro now and locking in your replacements, even if you have no noticeable defects. I just told them I wanted replacements in case something came up in the future and I’m getting them.

And IIRC at one of the recent conventions the Hasbro team did say there was a deadline but didn’t give a date.
>>
>>11540853
i hate that we have to do stuff like that now
>>
>>11540835
No, you made the original order so he'd be fucked. You either need to open them and check the status on them (and you should since we don't know how long they'll be sending replacements) or tell the buyer to send you pics and do the whole process on his behalf.
>>
>>11540853
>>11540857
Alright thanks for the advice frends, I'll contact them and ask for replacements later today then :)
In that case if I sell it, should I just immediately send my replacement copy so there'd be guaranteed no issues, or send the original purchase (and follow up with the replacement if there is an issue)?
>>
>>11540856
At least an anon confirmed they're still sending out confirmation emails for the replacement parts as of today so my recommendation is:

-Open everything
-Check to see if they're complete
-Take pictures of any issues you come across
-Take pictures of the numbers stamped on the brown boxes
-Take pictures of the product number codes (Ultra Magnus has it behind the backpack, Optimus has his on the buttflap).
-Also important, make sure you put your shipping address on the consumer care site. They didn't ask for one when they responded, so the one used on the site will likely be used to ship the items.
>>
>>11540874
indeed
I actually meant more broadly. it sucks that I have to open everything the moment I get it, because something could always go wrong. I honestly cannot disagree more
His legs are apretty huge failure point in the design, changed for absolutely no reason when the siege did everything they already needed to
The original trailer hitch is now some vestigial, asymmetrical part that serves no purpose, and his thigh gas tanks are fiddly as hell and are way too small and thus leave a huge gap. They did this for NO reason, the siege legs were perfectly fine! They had everything they needed, and a cool little transformation that filled all the gaps in BOTH modes, and swung the wheels areound for extra flair! They could've just retooled them! But no, let's add a second fucking trailer port, some shitty gas tanks and make his legs do absolutely nothing! Let's fuck his proportions while we're at it

Anyways regardless of whether that dude just got lucky with hasbro or it was a troll, I didn't write to hasbro that there was 'nothing wrong'; i intentionally phrased it vaguely, so I can elaborate if i called/wrote again.
As I wrote before, I'm hoping to sell one of them so I'd rather keep it sealed if possible. I just want backups in case they get fucked only when Hasbro arbitrarily decides "nah no more replacements lole".
If I had to tell them specifics, I could tell them that the issues with the Fire Convoys is the ab section being loose bc of the teeth (as it's not like you can photograph that without opening up the figure of course), but what about Magnus? Because they included G2 Snarl instead. They're a 2-pack, so there was no need to include the extra lump of useless plastic to bulk up the pricetag this time. I just wish they had dumped the Wheelie for the G2 release like they've done with every other use of the SS86 mold after the initial one; if they really wanted to give us a G2 Wheelie, they should repaint the Core class toy so he's not a useless statue.

but, uh, aside from the wonky fusion cannon and a somewhat subpar tank mode, 86 Megatron is amazing. He's no gun mode megs, and his accessories are also a bit lacking, but he's worthwhile especially if you have 86 prime. The two of them look perfect together.

The tank mode is a bit rough and I imagine third parties will upscale the figure to MP size and add die-cast.

Well, ML Optimus was over a hundred dollars even importing him yourself, and Magnus is going to have a similar cab and a trailer that isn't just an empty box, as well as being subject to orange man tariffs, so you should expect to pay well over $100 no matter where you buy it from.
>Are any of the other missing links good? most reviews just say their overpriced
Because that's all people care about nowadays. Most collectors don't give a shit about quality—they just want a thing that looks like a thing, and they want it as cheaply as possible in order to maximize how many things their paycheck can buy.

Personally, Missing Link Convoy was the best toy I've bought in years, though. I can't speak for everyone, but the QC on mine was immaculate; the plastic looks and feels good, the paint is cleanly applied, the joints are all tight and the ratchets feel fantastic. Even the vac metal seems thicker and more durable as if it were actual chrome. I can't imagine it ever wearing or flaking off. In hand, the sculpted and painted sticker details are quite phenomenal. It's just a gorgeous hunk of plastic and diecast.

Also, it's just a damn fine toy. Everything has a place to be stored, and everything is fun to fiddle with—everything does something fun as opposed to just being there for the sake of accuracy. The tranformation is a mildly more complex evolution of the original G1 prime, which is simply a timlelessly good toy concept. It poses extremely well and even the dated elements like the gangly arms don't look bad because this toy defines its own context. It's not trying to be accurate or stylish. It simply is what it is.

My only real complaints are the lack of a diaclone microfig equivalent, and the lack of an up/down neck joint. Both seem like they would have been easy to work in, but oh well. 10/10, still.

I think this is why I loved Titans Return so much. Even deluxe class figures felt like their own little self-contained playsets, and I love the concept of pilots/drivers and mini-vehicles because they help add a sense of scale to the giant transforming robots, plus they're just fucking fun to play with.

>>11542793
Everything *is* expensive nowadays. We live in a shareholder economy where every major corporation has promised infinite returns to their top investors, forever. And entire class of people depend on this to fund their way of life. When toys get more expensive, the biggest driving factor isn't that they want to increase quality, and it certainly isn't that they want to pay their workers more—they just want to maximize profit so the corporate payout gets bigger. That's why current retail shit has not only price-hiked, but also untethered size classes from actual size, so they can charge whatever they feel like for however much plastic they want.
>But it's the kind of thing you can feel in hand most of the time
This is the saving grace. Every now and again, there's a nexus of cost and quality that is actually worth it. Most MP and Haslab stuff is still just bloated pricetags for the sake of profit, but ML Convoy actually feels worth it to me. I predict this class of toy is going to get exceedingly rare moving forward as corporations try harder and harder to squeeze money out of plastic, so I'm trying to enjoy them now.
>>
>>11542793
>Takara stuff *is* expensive
MSRP in yen for missing link convoy, with the trailer, is in the neighborhood of 100 bucks. That honestly isn't all that expensive in this economy. The $130 price tag most peope saw was Hasbro and import sites charging an extra 30%, presumably for some justified fee and/or service they provided.

It's kind of like how people bitched about MP prices even a decade ago when the car bots like Prowl and Wheeljack were 90-100 bucks if you bought from an import site, but only 65-75 bucks if you imported yourself. Yeah, that doesn't include shipping, but shipping shouldn't figure into the value of the product, either since it has nothing to do with development or manufacturing. For 70-ish dollars, those car bots were amazing toys, and I feel the same way about ML Convoy for $100.

Titans return and Powers of the prime was THE fun time i had with transformers in my life.
I swear i didnt have that much time with these toys when i was a kid and in the 90s parents were buying me transformers but

- articulation is bad
- gimmicks are not as creative as these on your photo

TR and PotP came during my life crisis and they honestly healed a part of it. i remember posting every day in these threads and being excited for new toys -> working more because i wanted more toys -> improving my life -> getting better

it was so much fun!
i have fun these days also because of Junkions and Studio Series 86. >Blokees Optimus has the trailer's combat pod/cockpit attached to his 5th wheel
Okay, why hasn't any other Optimus been able to do this? This is such a cool feature for a toy. Hasbro designers are too concerned with accuracy and that's why Prime's trailer has the stigma of being a "big empty box" nowadays.

I know the Missing Link Optimus' combad pod can come out of the trailer and has little wheels on the bottom, but I don't think it can do this. Maybe it'll be something the upcoming MPG can do, since that seems to be designed as an actual toy with actual toy features to play with.

A sadly large subset of the fandom, I'm afraid. I've encountered plenty of collectors who think the Missing Link line is "lower quality" than MP just because it has fewer moving parts and less complexity overall.

Really? And I've never seen pics of it? That might have actually convinced me to buy one, lol.

I feel like the tooner mentality has completely destroyed the coolness of Optimus' trailer. It's only ever seen as an empty box that exists just to magically disappear when he transforms. It's kind of like how people almost never show off the fact that the battle pod can stick out the top of the trailer even on the G1/ML toy. That's such a cool fucking feature and nobody ever seems to care about it because it's "diaclone" and not "Transformers".

I had moved on from modern to G1 by the time TR came out, but as someone who grew up during the Micromaster era of the original, I can relate. Plus after focusing more on the big bots with city modes but only just recently picking up more of the minibot sized toys, I feel like I was missing out by not picking them up earlier.

But even as a kid I loved the whole concept of micromaster bases and the ramp system, I only wish I'd had more of them because even then I loved the whole idea of building these big cities that a micromaster could race around on without ever touching the floor.

Wild guess but it probably has something to do with them becoming Scourge, Cyclonus and the Sweeps in the movie

Either that it was Thundercracker, one of them got turned into the elusive "armada" who was never seen again
>>
>>11542966
I'm not inclined to imagine "deep bonding" moments happening to Decepticons off-screen, especially when what the G1 cartoon does show me is that most Decepticons would happily kill their comrades for personal gain, if not just for lolz. They probably spent what they thought was their last few minutes drifting in space by calling each other names.

i started researching this because I was curious, but it's not particularly well-documented. The 86 repair drone can come out and attach to roller, but it uses two 5mm pegs to do so, and I'm not sure if that would work on the back of Prime's truck mode without modification since there's only one port. No idea at all what Earthrise can do.

Can anyone with either of these Primes confirm?

The Earthrise drone is removable. It was designed to be able to attach to Prime's back with a 5mm post.

However, Roller did not come with the Earthrise trailer. The only Roller available at the time came with the Centurion Weaponizer pack which did have a 5mm post for attaching weapons and so the drone could attach to it.

I love the G2 colors, not just because they're the ones I grew up with, but because in the Dinobots' case in particular, I feel they fit better than the bland steel grey - dinosaurs were colorful in real life, like modern lizards and birds, and there's no reason that shouldn't apply to them.
As for these colors making the new Swoop look like a bootleg...Swoop and Snarl are my least favorite of the SS86 molds anyway because of how stiff they are (how the hell do you design a stegosaurus with virtually no tail to swing around, or a pterosaur with no ability to move its wings?). There were better ways both characters could have been engineered, and the colors wouldn't make them look so cheap if they weren't already so lazily made.

if anything - dinosaurs probably looked similar to crocodiles or comodos
predatory dinosaurs didn't need to look super colorful either (why the fuck a giant predator would look colorful when he heeds to hide or just be less noticable by anything)

the funny thing is, a huuuuge chunk of paleo-dorks read "we found eumelanin and pheomelanin in a fossil feather" and

yknow, nevermind that there's no way in hell a tiny pigment molecule can fossilize, and that fossils are replaced, bit by bit, with stone, so the original material is gone

they conclude ALL DINOSAURS ARE WHITE, BLACK, OR ORANGE because of those pigments
not.. apparently knowing that those are -the pigments- that exist. All animals have one or both of those two. That was not a 'discovery' in any way, nor does it give you any information. especially with reptile skins and bird feathers using a variety of non-pigment-based methods of reflecting light.
>>
>>11543285
>(why the fuck a giant predator would look colorful when he heeds to hide or just be less noticable by anything)
I dunno man why is a tiger bright fuckin orange. Lotta prey animals are color blind. And bright colors are often for other animals of the same species.

And crocs/gators are almost uniquely bland out of almost any reptile you coulda picked bro. Tons of geckos and lizards have bright colors. There's turtles with brightly colored strips, it's why they're called fuckin painted turtles. Same for box turtles, they've got bright stripes on their shells. And let's assume for a minute the prey animal has perfect human-level color vision, which is laughable. Those colors could blend in well with prehistoric foliage, which was a lot bigger back then. Being dark is only camouflage if you're a flat bastard like a croc. Anything as big as a t-rex does itself no favors being darkly colored in a jungle.

so I'm curious where they'll scale this figure. If the beast mode's too big, he won't look right clinging to Boss Monkey's back while he flies. but if the robot mode's too small, he won't be able to go face to face with Choppaface properly.

NTA but whilst the ER Seeker isn't great due to being just an upsized Classics Seeker with some extra joints, the SS86's complete lack of detail is a bummer. Proportionally it looks good and the engineering looks alright but the fact the legs haven't got a single decorative panel line on them is lame. Also grey instead of silver is shit.
I'm gonna get Thundercracker and see if I like him enough to overlook the barren surfaces, but if not I'll flip him. I'm fine with the ER mold for the coneheads as they were nobodies anyway, but honestly the perfect Seeker would be the SS86 with the details of the ER. As is, the best official G1 Seeker mold is still Siege, even if it's a Tetrajet and not an F-15.

That people weren't forced to buy the shitty ER mold and aren't forced to buy the new ones. If it's that much of a trouble or your fine with the ER just pass on it, same way I pass on tons of molds that I don't care about I also had zero troubles getting whatever transformer I want just by preordering online, and the same will happen with the new seekers.

And no, just having higher standards and knowing where to buy doesn't make me a shill. I legit think the new seeker mold is the best they ever looked in mainline and blows the old ones out of the water. I don't care if other people buy it or not, just that I'm glad I skipped on these characters until Hasbro actually released something that actually looks good for a change.

>I'm not a shill, I just wanted to act like a smug asshole and for some reason people didn't tell me how awesome I was.

Maybe when people were voicing their concerns you could've just minded you own fucking business instead of babbling about how smarter you were than everyone.

Don't try to act like you're just having a discussion now when you were pissing this uppity shit >>11542155

I like him and Hoist better than the T30 ones, at least.

I like the mold a lot. Also it's extremely easy to mod him to move the arm flaps onto his shins with a Tamiya saw and some glue. Doesn't need partsforming either.
>>
>>11544423
this looks incredible anon he really loks like sentinel
The only problem i have is his chest is a bit to much "dad bot" shaped but other than that hes great
>>
>>11544429
Thank you! Full credits to Mavs for designing the kit, I just printed and painted the parts (and did the flap mod of course).

I headcanon the submarine as a Star Wars speeder bike. Shockwave seems like the type who would hate Earth altmodes.

Got Monster Hunter collab guy today. It is really held back by being based on kingdom Airazor. All the new stuff is really nicely molded and the paint work is super super nice but it really makes you wonder why they did this guy the way they did. The whole Rathalos bit just kind of lazily hangs off his back and he looks weird and spindly in robot mode, but he does look nice from some angles. Kind of an underwhelming package all together.
>>
>>11544507
yeah not really worth the cost, but after waiting for it to go cheaper, I finally gave in. Really had potential to be great
IN FAIRNESS monster hunter guys have tiny, tiny feet.

who said it was a submarine? It's a space ship.

>the SS86's complete lack of detail is a bummer.
Yeah, this is something that bugs me too, because even SS86 tends to be a little greebly so the toys don't look out of place next to the gens line.
As it is, Thundercracker doesn't look like he fits next to even SS86 Megatron.
>>
Ya know I never did see if anybody came up with a good add on kit for Cheetor's gut gun. Anybody know of what that integrates into Beast mode pretty well?
>>
>>11543262
Plus the easy use for it as a purist is assembled as a flying hoverboard. I can totally see Shockwave being the kind of asshole to make a personal hoverboard modeled after his own face.

Randomly picked up this Thundercracker today. The gun arm is kinda eehh, but i like the stocky Lil guy. Might try and track down the other 2 seekers.

Nice Sentinel, looks suitably punchable. And I actually don't mind them that much after messing around with him a bit.

When's the soonest we see this toy?
>>
>>11545130
Assuming they already had a design worked out for each category and subcategory, probably a little under a full year if it goes into production immediately. It takes time to design the actual toy components, tool them, etc. Maybe a year and a half if they actually genuinely need to start from scratch instead of having 2 dozen backlog designs to pick from.
