how to cope with feeling shame and embarrassment about being an adult and still liking toys?
You could try not being a self conscious faggot
>>11546875I just accept the truth. As we grow up, our toys just get bigger.
>>11546875Tell the store employees that you use them as sex toys, those are acceptable for adults to buy.
>>11546875What >>11546876 said. Who cares what anyone else thinks?
I call them collector items and stress relievers
I don't have to cope with that because I'm not ashamed of buying the toys I like. I have friends and family who venture into my basement where I display my toys whenever they visit to see what is new. It helps that I don't collect slutty anime girls. In general, people don't tend to care about what strangers buy except for pathetic people with shittier lives than yours.
>>11546875Toy collecting will NEVER be a serious hobby. All those news articles about being a kidult collecting labubus or legos won't change anything. You may need a reason, but you'll never have an excuse. You collect because you want to
i got way worse problems than that bro
>>11547077>kidultStop trying to make this a thing. It's more embarrassing than buying toys in public.
>>11547077>chat gpf tier
>>11546875Realize you're going to die some day and none of this shit could ever matter
>>11546895Not quite as socially acceptable for men though.OP, dress up as a woman and tell the cashier “I’m going to put these up my pussy”, you will get no judgement.
>>11547100>>11547103>Stop trying to make this a thing. It's more embarrassing than buying toys in public.Just the reaction I needed. Labels like AFOL, Adult Collectibles, Not a Toy and kidult just make it sound defensive. \
>>11546875the world is in total disarray as it is. if the hobby brings you peace, and you're causing no trouble to yourself or others, you have nothing to be ashamed of.Boomers collected stamps, toy trains, cars, and comic books. How are muscly plastic action men any different?
>>11546875First you have to accept some things. Collecting toys is mindless consumerism. It doesn't take any skill or resourcefulness to find a figure on ebay and put it on a shelf. It barely counts as a hobby. Nobody is interested in the deep lore of Bionicle so it isn't a socially viable interest either. Once you accept that's how normies view collecting toys and it will never, ever change, you can start figuring out your personal coping methods.
>>11547231>Collecting toys is mindless consumerism.Don't know if you've been paying attention to the YouTube scene, but toy collecting? It's hard work. It takes skill to know what to find down at a garage sale or flea market. You gotta be kicking a ton of ass to correctly identify those big ticket items for an easy pay day. Toy Hunting is serious business in this day and age.
>>11546875>how to cope with feeling shame and embarrassment about being an adult and still liking toys?I FEEL NONE! Ther's absolutely nothing wrong with having a hobby I enjoy. "To thine own self be true," and I am a dork who collects toys. I embrace it. It makes me happier that way.
>>11546875>how to copeI make my boyfriend suck me off before he wakes up to shower to go to work and after he brings me breakfast in bed
>>11547272That's the stupidest attempt to justify this hobby that I've ever heard.
>>11547231Well, no, getting toys on ebay and Amazon are ez mode and not how most people like to do it that really like the hobby.
>>11546875Sounds like you're not quite an adult yet.
>>11546875Anon have you seen the labubu trend with females? Collecting toys is normiecore as fuck these days. You aren’t special.
I had this exact same question but one day I had a conversation that blew my mind. I sat down on a bench outside of a Target waiting for my Lyft driver, next to me was an old woman eating a sandwich. Not sure how or why we began to talk but we had a pretty lively Convo about Legos. She talked about how much she loved collecting them and sharing her hobbies with her grandkids. She may not have realized it, but she gave me a whole new perspective in life. It IS possible to be a responsible adult AND still be able to enjoy what it is typically seen as "for kids". The trick I think is to come up with a healthy balance between the "kid stuff" and your responsibilities.
>>11546875>shame and embarrassmentThis is a you problem, not an us problem
>>11547077>Toy collecting will NEVER be a serious hobby. It actually is. That's where you get the "no smiles and happiness allowed" serious collectors like that not-a-Frenchman and his anal-guy, and the "toy investors" who are nothing short of fucking pricks with the way they do the whole market just to make a buck. The serious ones are the ones who suck the fun out of a hobby, and every hobby has that one group of elitist pricks who think they're better than you because they have more. If there's a community of dildo-collectors out there, then there's one guy who says "I HAVE A DILDO THAT WAS SIGNED BY GEORGE TAKEI OF STAR TREK AFTER HE USED IT ON HIS BUTT, AND I GOT TO MEET HIM AND YOU DIDN'T BECAUSE YOU'RE POOR AND A LESSER COLLECTOR THAN I." There's always that one fucking guy, and he's always surrounded by minions who think his "coolness" rubs off on them by licking his boots. I've seen it in coin collecting, watch-collecting, porcelain-collecting, car-collecting, and all sorts of other collecting circles.
>>11547373>with females
>>11547434Females collect toys too. They make up maybe 20% of the She-Ra buyers.
>>11547437My point is that you'd be labeled as effeminate by some people.
>>11547437This seems way lower than it should be.
>>11547443I know. It's all "I'M NOT GAY! I COLLECT IT BECAUSE IT'S PART OF HE-MAN! NOW LEAVE ME ALONE WHILE I COMB SHE-RA'S HAIR!"
>>11546875Anon, nobody really gives a shit anymore. Unless some stereotypical gigachad or stacy characters are regularly coming into your house you aren't being judged since hobby shit exploded after Covid.
>>11546875I'm in my 40s and every member of my family that was older than me is dead. There is no one left to judge me. Life's too short to worry about what others think, just enjoy what you like and don't worry about little shit.
>>11547457They're the walking dead. Here today, gone tomorrow, never to be seen again. They are irrelevant.
>>11546875>Cope and shameI'm too autistic to even care about that shit, anon. You seem to be a normie, sad.
Don't give a fuck what others think. You like what you like and that's all there is too it.
>>11547443It is lower, there are entire review channels run by chicks for both DC and Marvel action figures. I'm sure some niche things like NECA have plenty of female fans. Plus of course all the Barbie and other doll collectors. It's not just gooners buying all those Monster High characters, you know.
>>11546875Every adult that still collects and plays with toys is living a better life than you ever will OP. You will never be happy because you never outgrew your ebin ironic phase where you have to decry that liking things = basedjak.
>>11546875Robin William had a Japanese toku & anime toy collection I don’t feel any shame about it . Lego specifically advertises to adults now; posing an action figure is more dignified than going on your phone
>>11546875You should feel more ashamed about being a consoomer.
>>11546875I think of "toys" as "art"--they are tiny sculptures--the packaging has artwork all over it--the package itself is sometimes artful--they exist from artful things like shows, movies, or some other media. and even original things outside of that is created by an artist of some kindbrowsing the toy aisle is somewhat like looking through an art gallery. a lot of talented artists did a lot of work to everything there.and for a few measly bucks you can take it home with you? what a deal!
>>11547406>It actually is.I didnt read the rest of your post. You're clearly being defensive if you have to write an entire paragraph trying to justify a grown man buying something that will always and only be meant for children. I own picrel, but im not going to pretend it's akin to buying a fancy painting or a ship in a bottle
>>11550822Taken from us too soon, of course he liked the karate bugmen.
I'm already a pervert and a weirdo.I have nothing to lose anymore.I'm free.
>>11550843That was the state of mind for a massive number of adult collectors in the 90s, and companies like McFarlane, Dragon Toys, BBI, and Medicom made a fortune off of them by escalating the level of detail and quality of the toy sculpts. >>11550967I like attractive female figures for the aesthetics. I don't think it's gay or perverted at all. It can be a fully-clothed figure like Edea from Final Fantasy VIII, or a barely-clothed figure like a few classic McFarlanes. A few male figures can be aesthetically pleasing too when done right.
>>11546875If you give a fuck what people think, or that it's because you collect toys you are not an adult. Adults are free to do as they please.
>>11547231>Collecting toys is mindless consumerism.Sure if you're collecting funcos or some retard shit like that. But otherwise toys can serve as a base to maintain creativity and explore ideas. Unless it is blind collecting on a shelf which then I agree with you.
I have kids so I get a free pass c:
>>11546875Cope, you're a fucking adult. No one gives a shit what other adults do in their spare time. just don't bother people and don't be a dick about it like scalper scum.
>>11551003Also, toy photography. Makes it feel like not so much of a money sink.
>>11551005You let them play with your Hot Toys?
>>11550970>Vincent ValentineBased
>>11551001ahh post
>>11546875For me the way to get over any shame/guilt related to wasting money on toy collecting is to make it more of an active hobby and less of an exercise in expensive hording. I love vintage toys, especially lines that have interesting engineering and stylistic designs but its hard to justify the ongoing cost when this shit literally just sits in a cabinet for me to admire. About 3 years ago I started selling off my old card collections and started buying up large/complete vintage toy collections for a discount; cleaning them down, matching accessories, took decent photos of them and started selling them individually online and at collector markets. At the same time I would cherry pick nice pieces for my own collection. This has been self sustaining or profitable ever since while also being quite fun to do (mostly). I think as long as you're doing something creative or profitable with your hobby you wont experience the retrospective regret and shame of wasting money on it. People will also have some respect for it (if you really care about that).
>>11547077>kidultI want to murder the faggot that coined this term
>>11552603It was probably a woman who thinks that spending $4k on a Louis Vuitton bag is a good buy, but men who enjoy stuff "meant for kids" are pathetic.
>>11547378Did you get her number?
>>11546875Just pretend you're buying stuff for a family member.
I kind of don't care? Actually have a couple of coworkers who're toy addicts/collectors that I've learned a great deal from.
>>11546875by growing up and realizing that said shame and embarassment is, in fact, a show of immaturity.
>>11552603I like the term, but not as a label to justify/normalize grown men buying toys
>>11547378>I sat down on a bench outside of a Target waiting for my Lyft driveryeesh, take the bus
I'm not collecting toys, I'm clutching at the nostalgic sands of my wasted and ruined life.I have no room for shame in my little box of withered emotions.
>>11553215You sound like a ton of fun.
>>11552603I fart in kid's toy aisles in protest
>>11546875There's no need to cope or feel shame when no one even knows I exist anyway.
>>11546875>everyone falling for Diosloth's troll thread
>>11546875Just order online nigga
>>11547231>It doesn't take any skill or resourcefulness to find a figure on ebay and put it on a shelf.Actually, that depends on what you are collecting. Even the time to learn about figures in a line can take quite a bit of research. It isn't hard, just time consuming sometimes. Sometimes toy lines are easy peasy to look up. Other times you have to really dig. There are some which are stupid obscure and hard to find any info. on. Again, not a difficult endeavor, but its not like people go 'I want a Darth Vader figure', search 'Darth Vader' on ebay, and then mindlessly buy the first one they see. On the other hand, its not like as in depth as other hobbies, like fixing up old cars.
>>11546875Only childish people are concerned with being an adult. Only the truly free don't care what other people think, they enjoy what they enjoy.
>>11546875Who cares what NPC normies think or say.
>>11546875Adults who cosplay as sports players by wearing their jersey are more embarrassing
>>11547077How about antique toys? Like tin trains and creepy dolls?
>>11552609>$4k on a Louis Vuitton bagThose bags maintain their value actually pretty well. The sister of a workmate of mine runs a second hand store for Louis Vuitton. You can resell those anytime for good money.
>>11556891only if you're a grandma
>>11546875>>11547449Virgin Lenny vs Chad Smithers
>>11547077>serious hobbyretard
>>11557664Stop being a racist git
>>11557194Yeah, it's not. What are you arguing?
>>11551415Funny how much has changed since these were made. Now everyone just plays mobile games on their phones outside instead of handhelds.
>>11546875Don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks. If buying toys makes you happy, and you can afford to do so, then by all means do it. The world is in chaos enough as it is. If it brings you happiness and its not harming anyone, go for it.
>>11546875>I just accept the truth. As we grow up, our toys just get bigger.YES! Women don't get shamed for having toys and dress-up in their adulthood.
>>11546875Simply choose not to care
>>11546875Stop caring about what other people think of you and life is soo much better while demoralizing cocksuckers are just jealous that they can't find enjoyment out of simple things and want you to be as miserable as they are.I like toys, videogames, movies, TV shows, cheap whores (like OP's Mom) and that's not going to stop anytime soon!!!FACT!!!!!!FACT!!!
>>11547077>Toy collecting will NEVER be a serious hobby. All those news articles about being a kidult collecting labubus or legos won't change anything. You may need a reason, but you'll never have an excuse. You collect because you want toI doubt that most people consider toy collecting as a "hobby" as you're not actually doing anything other than buying stuff while I don't need an excuse to justify the things I like just as I would never admonish you for enjoying sucking your own Fathers shit off nigger cocks!!!FACT!!!
>>11547100>>kidult>Stop trying to make this a thing. It's more embarrassing than buying toys in public.I have to admit there was this one time I was at Toys 'r' Us in the Transformer aisle and there was this woman with a small boy, probably 6 years old and I could hear him ask "Mommy, why is that man here?" and as I glanced slightly over she said "He's probably buying something for his son..." while sneering with a look of utter contempt as she knew I was just a middle aged man-child, so I took and toy off the shelf and started smiling knowing how much she would resent my happiness!!!FACT!!!
>>11547105>Realize you're going to die some day and none of this shit could ever matterExactly as our sun will go supernova in a few billion years, wiping out almost everything in our solar system, so none of this stupid shit matters in the greater scheme of things and why you should live in the moment and take joy whenever possible as life if nothing but a downward slide that accelerates as you get older and will leave you with regret over what you could and should have done!!!FACT!!!
