Mattel seems to be failing to adapt to the current trends once again.Not that MGA is really doing much better. The doll market has changed drastically than how it was 40 years ago. At least 30% of sales is now due to adult Millennials who want to keep collecting. Massive competition is now in the toy industry as digital offerings are taking money from children more often. While Mattel seems to be aware of adult collectors (Barbie movie, etc) they don't really cater to them too much. Barbie demands an entire isle in Target and has a massive spread of doll offerings at all price points, their strategy seems to be "keep offering at eventually you will sell at some price point" but the cheap dolls and failing to actually pay attention to trends has caused their sales to halt.
