All brands and scales welcome. Also if anyone has any good OP links for next time, feel free to drop them.
This probably should be on the tg but it does relate to diecast toy cars so I thought to ask this.I've been watch HW/Diecast customs videos for a week or two and was watching some gaslands builds when I saw this comment. This will sound incredibly retarded, and I feel like I'll get certain answers when I ask this: When you have a post apocalypse setting where you don't actually need to rely on rust and unhealthy amounts of decay, why the hell does every actively ignore that and just do rust buckets? I've watched stuff like Mad Max, it never gets THIS excessive and when it does (Fury Road) there's context that I feel stuff like gaslands builds tend to just omit.I expect the replies to be:>Shut up fagget rusty rat rods are cool>but much rustcore>it's fuckin metal broooooOr>who caresLast one I understand. This is something I wanted to put out there. Like you're telling me we could have far more interesting builds, stuff I genuinely wish I had the money to do, yet everyone's going to act like they only have seen Fury Road and do a midwesterner's nightmare because it's metal? The fuck is my sci-fi skyline themed after Godzilla with a plasma cannon or something that doesn't feel done to the point of monotony?
>>11563098Sorry forgot to share pic related.
>>11563098>>11563100Sounds more like Death Race 2000/Carmageddon then.
>>11562891hey can I ask a question?
>>11563098They're /yourcars/, do whatever you want. It's not like there's much of restrictive MUH LORE and MUH OFFICIAL PAINT SCHEMES.

How out of your way are you willing to go to find a STH? The scene has gotten so aggressive about them that it almost feels like it's not worth it. Scalpers and the people who loom over stockboys have never been worse.
>>11563098Do you mean something like this? Not custom but no rust.
There was an anon wanting a nfs m3 a while back. There is the one from dcm/ghost player and now has been released one from almost real. The main differences seem to be in the interiors with a different rollcage, details of the side exhausts, windshield wipers some of the vents and driver window.Neither are perfect but both are good enough imopic rel is the almost real one. I got the dcm one, wheels don't roll since the tires rubber touches the fenders
Gotta love these retro series. This car looks like something straight from 80s. Color, decals, wheels. Perfect!
>>11562891Is this your pic?
>>11565737I know everyone memes on the Most Wanted M3 but NFS has at least a few other pretty iconic cars I wouldn't mind having in diecast form like Eddie's Skyline. I always wonder how difficult it is for Mattel to secure permission to do liveries with branding on them, though.
>nfs carscan't wait for this
>>11567850another chink brand did it already, although it's the NfS (2015) one. Of course a Skyline with that widebody is never going to happen, so that's as close as one can get it, i guess. In nfs the run there was an R32 Skyline homage which could be easier to replicate.Speaking of 2015, Mattel had a brief collaboration with EA and we got few models but aside from that not much.Hope the collaboration with Hasbro (Transformers) goes better, there already are many castings that could be delivered without even the need to introduce new ones.Btw to NfS both the Rachel's 350z and the Undercover's 911 got a diecast too>>11567856while i understand your excitement i can't ignore the fact that if it ever happens, the liveries would be simplified to the point that they would look bland if not outright bad
Didn't take long to figure out there's a scalper in my area. I've now seen three restocks picked clean of almost every in-demand car, particularly the Ferraris. Pretty bummed, but I'm still finding stuff I like regardless.
>porsche 928s - muscle mania>buick riviera - hw modifiedwat?Anyway, Dead End when?
>>11563098i think the concept of modifying cars is just inherently more intertwined with classic hotrodding and stuff like mad maxyou're gonna see people really into that style oftenyou should do whatever you like, your skyline idea sounds fun and more "mechwarrior" aproach to the concept and aesthetic if that makes sensei have never really gotten into /tg/ but i am a diecast enjoyeris it hard to get into? i've only recently started dabbling in crpgs out of curiosity and I usually think the setting is kinda lamegaslands sounds more fun and my older brother is really into boardgames now
>>11569127what kind of dodge is that yellow one? looks like charger but front seems different
>>11569737Coronet Super Bee
>>11569744ok must be new a new one as i havet seen suchi have older dodge coronet and ist completely different, mine is similar to tomica like this
>>11569291What's hard to get into? Customizing diecasts? Not really, it's more about money and space that you should be concerned about. If you mean RPGs, I never ran one. I was supposed to at one point but life got in the way. Gaslands isn't an RPG, but it does have RPG elements. And realistically if you understand tabletop game design you could plug an RPG to Gaslands, it already has a rough guideline for a backdrop and encourages getting in character.Personally I'd recommend trying out Gaslands and getting into the aesthetic.. If it doesn't interest you, homebrew your own setting. One of my favorite HW lines (Highway 35) had its story based on the writers/directors' D&D campaigns. (No I am not making this up I swear)One more thing; what do you mean by being more "Mechwarrior" in approach? I don't think I can see the similarity here my experience with Battletech is limited.
>>11569260I know a Welsh muscle car guy who also questions the 928 being in Muscle Mania. The only reason I could assume they chose it was because V8 and they wanted to fill the slot up with something that isn't a Mopar or Chevy we've seen 20 times already.Bigger question is why not pick a Mercedes or BMW if you're doing kraut power? They might mostly be famed for 6 and 12 cylinders but those not only look more atypical of a muscle car, but they also share the boaty machismo and boxy bravado. He'll if you squint, some JDM would fit more than a 928.
>>11569750it's not a new casting, a bit old actually. It's a 5th gen coronet while yours is a 7th gen one>>11569896nta but the "sci-fi" theme and "mechearrior" makes me think about something like pic rel >>11569901yeah seems a bit of an oddball. Even some aussie cars would fit better the theme
Couple more pickups. This has been staring at me for weeks, finally grabbed it
>>11571112And this cause it's the only single carded truck I've seen and it has a nice color
>>11571112Pretty cool that HW has now made 3 of the current WEC/IMSA sports racers. The Peugeot 9x8 looks wild enough to be a fantasy casting but it's from the real world.
>>11571156And the Ferrari 499P is incredible. It's probably the best premium HW I've ever bought, this crap photo doesn't do it justice. Most of these will probably get snapped up by collectors and kept in their bubble but that's a shame. You really need to get up close and examine this thing with a magnifying glass to appreciate all the detail. So they've made the Cadillac GTP you posted >>11571112 (it won at Indianapolis this weekend), the Peugeot and the Ferrari.Still need;>Porsche 963>Alpine>BMW>Aston Martin Valkyrie>Acura ARX-06>Toyota>Lamborghini SC63Last one is unlikely since Lambo is canning the project at the end of this year.Hyundai joins the racing next year, Ford & McLaren will be ready in 2027.
2nd hand haul last week.2 Hot Wheels, 2 vintage Welly, 2 odd brands- HW Chevy Nova 1970 well printed and detailed- HW Dodge Challenger 1970 Neon Speeders also well detailed headlights and taillights prints- vintage 80s Welly blue Ford Escort - 90s Welly red Detomaso Pantera- green vintage 80s Soma Hong Kong Chevy Camaro beautiful for cheapo rip off- purple Speed Rebels Dodge 1970
>>11571972Love this Camaro! Seriously I love these cheap looking diecasts from 80s and this camaro is perfectly imperfect.Anyone familar with brand Speed rebels? Their Dodge seems be smaller scale, like 1:72 but massive oversized wheels. Metal body and chasis.
>>11571156Hypercars are nuts. The Cadillac has a monster engine.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqyGJTioXnc
Hello lads, haven't posted in a whileHako Type D is probably my favourite fantasy ever. Just look at it. Picked up the red one last night too.I do Gaslands stuff myself, I kind of go for more of a Death Race look rather than the brown blobs a lot of the Mad Max stuff turns into.
>>11572205Track Dwagon is up there too, here's my simple Gaslands custom
>>11572205Some of the more recent "realistic fantasy" cars they've put out in recent years are really good at not looking too out of place next to actual licensed models. The Hako basically looks like it could be mistaken for any iconic 80s/early 90s JDM car at a glance depending on how you look at it.
>>11572225They look like cars from 80s or 90s scifi.
>>11572102Sports racing cars have always translated well into die-casts. Open wheelers like Indycars & F1 always wind up looking goofy but no matter the generation sportscars always make a good scale car.
>>11572411F1 and formula are fragile for diecast toys. Exposed wheels are easier to bend and damage.
>>11570393Tbh I still don't think I understand the Mechwarrior comparison.
anyone gotten their team transport porsches yet?
Hobby is too expensive
>>11574253what do you mean by too expensive?
>>11574253>>11574262Feels like a bot post or a stupid bait. Buying toy cars that start from ~$1 per car or even less if buying en masse is one of the cheapest collecting hobbies out there. Action figures? More expensive. Lego, transfromers, gunpla? Pffft.
>>11571112i found cadillac today, only poojoe leftpaint on it is a mess on it btw
>>11572411>F1 always wind up looking goofythese premium f1 models look great
One I got recently.
Since I've managed to find one of each, here's a comparison of the 2020 Corvette from Maisto (red), Matchbox (blue), and Hot Wheels (you'll never guess which one it is).
The GTP really only looks good in black for me
>>11574500Those are some beeg front wheels.
>>11574793Maisto is dogshit one with no interior and black windows.Matchbox is blue with a lot of rear details such as plate etc.Hot Wheels is one from Star and Stripes set (I want Dodge Chally from that set for these amazing headlight prints - pic related)
I've been seeing a lot of listings on ebay for the Red Edition T3 Custom. Is it just not a popular casting? I was always under the impression that Reds were hot commodities.
that's wild
>>11575337Wouldn't a ton of it on Ebay during the year it's released insinuate the opposite? It's a VW in Red Edition livery, all those listings are probably 10 different scalpers trying to make a quick buck.
>>11575581That Lotus is pretty cool.Details?
Ended up at a Hamrick's today and they had mainline HW for $3.25. Not even anything special. For a place that touts itself for having low prices, it stood out a lot.
>>11575673radford lotus type 62 pikes peakit's the next release in the "elite" series>>11575711how?! i've never seen a mainline over €3 in my 3rd world cuntry
Got myself the HW Premium R32. I know it probably isn't 1:1 to Nakazato's from Initial D but it's close enough. Even though Nakazato isn't my favorite character, his R32 is one of my top 3 cars from the series.
>>11576906the only differences i see are different wheels and missing the shopping list on the doors. Both are easy fixes with new 5 spokes wheels of your choice and decals
>>11574958Fletcher? You cross post here too huh?
>>11568097Is Rachel's 350z a similar situation to the MW M3 DCM or the like? Also the I cannot for the life of me find the undercover 911. slSomeone on mercari sold a Lamborghini for $17 and it's the only one of that set I've seen apart from the charger, gto, mustang
>>11578226do you mean if they roll? From what i've seen both the mini station and LF model do roll, or at least they seem to.Though both will be hard to find nowaday even more so the lf one.About the 911 wasn't expecting to be so unobtainable, but can see why
>>11573409Not Porsches, but I got a couple of Toyota team transports.
>T-RacersHaven't seen that before
>>11572205Nice wheel swap. Hot Wheels has really been nailing their fantasy-that-might-as-well-be-real stuff lately.I really like the El Segundo coupe. I saw an off road/rally version in the wild today, but wasn't so fond of the colors so I figured I'd wait on the repaints.
>>11575337Exclusives always have some appeal, but honestly I think the red is the weakest deco on that casting.Lately I've been really into buying multiple decos of castings I really like.
I'm particularly fond of the rear tampos on this little Alpha Romeo. Also both it and the Lotus have tailpipes that are molded as part of the interior piece and they stick out through the baseplate. I can't recall ever seeing that before
I have a thing about putting cars in pairs. Everybody needs a friend.
love these little matching rabbits, especially the country. I like jacked-up off-roaders. I find them more fun to vroom across uneven surfaces.
looking forward to getting some more decos of this little Model A dirt racer. The Jaguar MK1 is excellent, too. I love a racing sedan.
Some more matchbox for my squad car collection
>>11580374The brown/copper really is the best deco for that casting so far, which is especially notable given it's the original one.
some more wagons for my wagon collection. this is like my third time buying cruise bruiser and the volvo. Gone Mad is a pretty excellent new casting, too. I'm automatically a sucker for anything in this slate blue.
also got this version of the P1800. Every time I buy one of these Lesney editions off ebay, it has some kind of fucking scratch or defect on the side that was facing the card. oh well. still gorgeous
>>11580395>especially notable given it's the original one.sometimes a casting peaks with its original deco. Can't think of another instance off the top of my head, but I know I've definitely hunted down some superior first editions on ebay after buying a ho-hum repaint.pic unrelated. I somehow wound up with three of this 32 Ford despite never actually wanting it. One was part of a lot on ebay, one was in a 5 pack, and one was free from an ebay seller who sent me the wrong thing, lol. It's not a bad little hot rod, though.
One of my favorite cars right now has to be this Ford Escort. It was the only Ultra Hot on the pegs last time I went hunting, but it just appeals to me in a way I can't quite describe. It's got a nice wide stance and the head/tail light tampos are spot on and I just wanna carry it with me everywhere.Oh yeah the Triumph is cool, too.
>>11580408>Ford EscortI also like the car in Wreckfest. Some anons were sharing Wreckfest decos based on Hot Wheels last thread, so here are some of mine. I wasn't going for super-accuracy on anything except the bug. I've had that one since I was a kid, so it's kind of special.
>>11580411Also got some other stock cars lately. I really love the colors on the Cale Yarborough Oldsmobile. It's from Johnny Lightnings Stock Car Legends series, which I'm definitely going to get more of because they are super fucking cool.
>>11580411>WreckfestLoving this Volvo P544 in the game. Sad I can't find a 1:64 version, but there's an overpriced 1:43 based on the 1965 Safari rally winner I could import. It's kinda pretty.Anyway, thanks for suffering my photodump. Happy hunting, friends!
>>11580396I have the green 240 and I kind of prefer the mismatched wheels on it. It helps to drive that whole "drift machine" vibe. Then again, I'm kind of a sucker for that anyway. I'm on the lookout for the latest Custom Civic almost exactly because I think it pulls off the look the best of that casting's decos.
>>11580416ooh, that is nice. I love those new dish wheels it has on the front. I think the first thing I ever saw them on was the Alfa Romeo GTV6, and they looked great there, too. They look great on almost everything. The only shame is that the vac metal seems to crack over time.>I have the green 240 and I kind of prefer the mismatched wheels on it.Yeah I love mismatched wheels, but I never saw any of the red or green volvos on the pegs, sadly. I like whatever the fuck these are on this white one I got in a euro-themed multi-pack. I don't think I've ever seen them before. Looks like they'd be real good for cyberpunk cars. They'd probably look great on the Hako.
>>11572411>Open wheelers like Indycars & F1 always wind up looking goofyI don't think that's necessarily true. For a mainline, the Lotus 49 came out great. It helps that these dish wheels have a curved inner edge.
>>11581297I remember someone saying in a previous thread that the chroming on HW's wheels tends to fade/flake off over time even if you're really careful with them regardless of the wheel style. The only solution people seem to have is to either do a full on wheel swap or just paint them.
>>11581320>chroming on HW's wheels tends to fade/flake off over time even if you're really careful with themI think a lot of it comes down to the oils on your hands, and how much the wheels actually rub against something. As well as the specific kind of wheel. The Ultra Hots discs are obviously really prone to damage. The ones on this GNX really didn't last long, but I picked it up at work and keep it on my desk and have probably handled it with some really gnarly shit on my fingers.5SPs, in my experience, always tend to flake around the edges. I think it's just because of how raised the rim surface is, which is another reason I'm not super fond of them. I really wish they'd just retire them. We have so many better-looking options these days.
>>11581447speaking of cars at work, I'm still wicked fonda' this Honda. I figured it'd made a good pocket car because the wheels had no chrome to begin with, but then I started careening it down the garage when I was bored and it's picked up its share of battle damage.
>>11567200the light tampos on these are so great. I'll be really sad if the Ultra Hots/Hot Ones series ever go away. Unfortuantely, I also never fucking see them in stores—they're always the first things the scalpers go after.
>>11581514This thing really needs another mainline release. It got a premium with a meh deco that looks really out of place on a 50 year old car. It also got this toy fair exclusive which has an excellent deco, but it's unattainably expensive. The copper paint and rims with blue windows just speaks to me, though.
>>11581297The Drift Camper has a pretty good chunky wheel set. I wouldn't mind seeing this deco on the regular Drift Wagon.
>>11581713HW loves Volvo wagons for some reason.
Another restock at Target and another set of Ferraris already gone. Found this at Walmart market though
>>11581717I honestly had no idea that racing tuned Volvo wagons were a real thing at first. I got my first 240 because I thought a souped up track-worthy station wagon was an absurd idea.
>>11581866then I tell you more. square rear is in fact better in terms of aerodynamicswhile it does generate higher drag, it creates less rear lift and thats more important than drag differenceshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7EYKVEL7Ds
>>11582073So shooting brakes are the goat?
>>11581866The 240 was popular as a support car in European rally racing, too. It was very reliable and had a great storage-to-performance ratio. It also came from the factory with a turbocharger and 5-speed manual transmission.matchbox did a great 240 sedan recently, I was really hoping they'd get around to a wagon version. The 240 became really popular with car culture hipsters over the past couple of decades, so I'm hoping we get some more pandering.
>>11581845That's some good taste there, anon. I feel like it's easy to overlook how great that casting is because it's "just another Corvette", but the sculpt is spot-on, and the stance, wheel size, and blown engine are just this side of being cartoonishly oversized. It's like the closest you can get to being a tooned car without being tooned—like a corvette version of Rodger Dodger.Plus, green/black/gold is a GOAT color scheme. Probably the best on the casting. Although I'm also a sucker for the one from the 52nd anniversary "pearl and chrome" series.
>>11582625thats how the car looks like, even down to bigger rear wheelshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgUWPh8G6K4
>>11581297>Yeah I love mismatched wheels, but I never saw any of the red or green volvos on the pegs, sadly. It's getting a zamac deco that goes back to mismatched wheels. I want to like it, but I hate those 10 spokes on the front. I feel like this would be a great candidate for a real rider swap.
this premium merc is SS tier, fantastic cast
>>11574649I had a matte black Ford Thunderbolt with gold decals that had the same stance as your car, but no blower sticking out the hood. I can't find it right now, but I have this Autoworld Galaxie that the Thunderbolt was based on and it's in a similar color as yours.
>>11583861I actually got it with this Mach 1 Mustang at a discount because the packages were squashed. Both cars had bent wheels as well as the Mustang's spoiler, but miraculously had no damage to the paint. This type of crap happens to specifically to the Autoworlds that wind up at my stores. Bent cards, ripped off prints because some idiot put the packaging sticker on the card instead of the plastic. I managed to fix most of the damage so the cars look ok at a distance.
>>11583877Also, if anyone has an Autoworld Supra/Celica-Supra, please-pleeeeaasepost engine bay pics, I've cucked out on finding one and uberautism prevents me from ordering one online
>>11580396Cruise Bruiser looks like it came straight out of Wreckfest with the pipes coming out the hood and the beam bumper on the front
>>11584059is that your pic? Shit, that's great.Yeah, I'd love to make the Ford LTD look like a cruise bruiser, but I get a kick out of taking all the cars that were obviously intended to be for demos and trying to make them into sleepers. It's wicked fun to tear around some tracks in the '65 Chrysler or the Crown Vic.>>11583367I found the ZAMAC 240 in at wally world today. it has different wheels—still mismatched—and smoked windows. Not sure what that pic is but I kinda like this better. The un-chromed rims really gel with the "unfinished" look of the ZAMAC.Does anyone else like buying duplicate castings as much as I do?
>>11584211It does depend on the casting. There are definitely makes/models that I tend to gravitate towards, especially when they keep releasing great decos for them. I haven't been in this game for too long, but the 240 Drift Wagon is definitely one of my favorite castings so far and I want to see more of it. I think it has a lot of potential.
Someone knows how is the scaling with CCA? It is similar to Tomica, majorette, matchbox or hot wheels or it is way to off.
