The state of this board is absolutely pitiful as of late. We get like zero activity anymore. And what activity we do actually get, is just people complaining about the same old thing, toys not being the exact way an anon wants them, pricing being too high, and the newest thing I've noticied, people complaining about other users that own more than like 10 figures and calling them hoarders. It's beyond annoying. What is this? Is this because people are being priced out of domestic toy collecting? Is it an invasion of third worlders that are seething because they can't collect toys too?

It's genuinely gotten so bad, it feels like no one actually posts their own toys anymore. Either it out of fear some schizo will try to dox you, or because they don't want to bother, or what. But the state of this place is in the fucking dumpster. Unfortunatly, I don't know of a solution except maybe range banning Southeast Asia. But whatever it is that's going on, I miss old /toy/. Where we could talk about and post our collections, when was the last time there even was a collection thread? Thanks for reading my little rant. Try to do better people. Do not let me down.

>We get like zero activity anymore.
We had a guy here for a while that would keep picking fights with other anons then shit-flood the jannie inbox with complaints of "trolling," and kept getting people banned over and over again to where most likely a lot of people got fed up and left. I know I almost quit coming here because of him.

Also the Death Star monster is the most valuable thing in your pic.

And you could be the one who creates discussions that you'd like to have instead of doing what you hate others doing with complaining.

>other users that own more than like 10 figures and calling them hoarders.
"Army builders" are the one group of collectors who are bigger assholes than scalpers because at least the scalper keeps the hard-to-find stuff circulating on the market (even at a bullshit price). Some toy-makers used to solve the problem with army-builder sets, and it was legitimately an awesome idea.

I do try to create discussion and post toys, but I just get called a hoarder.

Shitposters have unfortunately scared a bunch of people off at this point and it's never been easier to samefag with the IP counter gone. I used to come here daily, but now I only stop in now and then. It's just too frustrating when you see a huge bump in posts in one of your favorite generals only to find instead of a cool reveal it's just another schizo having a melty. IDs and longer bans than 3 days for repeated bad behavior would probably improve this place overnight. Even with the ability to evade, most trolls would likely just fuck off to a less secure board. But I guess it's not meant to be.

Anons don't respond to the people posting their collections. I stopped trying to make OC because the vast majority of the time it gets no (you)s. Then someone responds to a comment further up the thread and my stuff gets slid.
This could be all a coincidence but it feels very much like an in-group that doesn't want to encourage people posting their stuff, despite paying lip service to it.
>>
>>11573565
Do you need (You)s though? Personally I don't post my toys for the (You)s. I post my toys because I like to take pictures of them and I don't like other social media sites. Why can't you just post for the love of the game and not the attention?
>>
>>11573565
I never got that impression at all. Sometimes it's interesting to show collections.
>>
>>11573372
I think it's a combination of US collectors getting out of collecting or putting a pause to it since the economy is totally fucked right now plus tariff issues with overseas orders. I keep seeing so many posts on various sites of people dumping their entire collections of specific lines and trying to sell for a few thousand dollars. Then the combination of third worlders who don't have two pennies to rub together but want to collect legitimate toys, and that's how we get thread after thread of people praising shitty bootlegs and other junk because they've never known anything else.
>>
>>11573568
Fair point that its not all just about attention.
However there also has to be some encouragement or at least acknowledment. I'm not looking for anons to line up and suck my dick but when you post your stuff and it gets nothing, that is very discouraging.
>>
>>11573575
>that's how we get thread after thread of people praising shitty bootlegs and other junk because they've never known anything else.
This is why I think stuff like CT was getting shilled pretty heavily in the Marvel thread a few months ago. They're alright for bootlegs, but the way people were praising them, made it seem like they were better than the genuine article when that just wasn't the case.
>>
>>11573575
Prices have done nothing but rise for the past decade, but this year we can blame tariffs. If tariffs never happened, prices would have still gone up. I just live with it as best as I can even though I admit that I do buy less than I did a decade ago.

>>11573575
>third worlders who don't have two pennies to rub together but want to collect legitimate toys
We can send them our surplus of Rose, Finn, and Holdo figures. They'll be cool with that, right?
>>
>>11573580
Yes, prices of everything have gone up. Not just toys. I think the last year or two (or since covid really, but more so in the last year or two), shit like rent, groceries and essentials have gone up so much that people are finally being squeezed enough to abandon collecting.

>we can send third would countries the peg warmers that don't sell
And why the hell have they not been doing this? Stores like Ollie's here are jam packed. They can't even stock any more on the shelves there's so many junky peg warmers.
>>
>>11573588
>I think the last year or two (or since covid really, but more so in the last year or two), shit like rent, groceries and essentials have gone up so much that people are finally being squeezed enough to abandon collecting.
I think this has a lot to do with it. Especially with this most recent round of price hikes, many people have been priced out and are now lashing out. I sympathize for them, but it's becoming more difficult as the continue to shit up the only place I go to discuss toys.

When prices rise, luxury goods are the first thing that people are forced to cut. That includes toys. And prices did rise. I'm not gonna argue the politics of it because prices rose with both Republican and Democrat presidents so there's blame for both sides.

I just hope that the big toy-makers are using economies of scale to increase production to bring down the per-unit cost they can sell stuff for, or consider producing in countries that worked out deals to drop tariffs with Trump.
>>
>>11573565
Are you a person that makes Lego MOCs? For some reason they got really deranged a few years ago when nobody gave them any (You)s and started schizoing out. While Lego threads do have a problem being spammy, just because people would rather talk about the new thing doesn't mean it's all shills. People posting their MOCs seem like they think they are deserved attention
>>
>>11573565
I enjoy going to threads and clicking on images, even though i almost never respond to them.
I'm sure there's other people like me

>>11573575
Yeah, i think the economy is in the shitter right now and I'm wondering why it's not a major thing in the news.
Personally, i've slowed down on modern toys since COVID, mostly because there's not a lot of new things that interests me anymore. I rarely go to the Marvel General anymore because it's nothing but retreads of retreads. Star Wars barely exists since the last movie and GI Joe is on lifesupport.
So I've been buying up shit that i missed out on over the years and filling out my older collections.

And yeah, third worlders are a major problem here on /toy/, who do nothing but shit the place up. Thankfully, they actually seem to be disappearing, either because they also feel the economic pinch and have less money to spend than Americans or because they were only posting here to shill products and their employer can't afford the 10¢ anymore.

On the bright side of things, that just means only the collectors who really like their toys will stick around.

pic is a haul image i forgot to post a while back, the dropship from the Destiny Mega Bloks line. Pretty damn expensive, but it's not like i had anything else to buy.
>>
>>11573627

>>
>>11573620
Not me, I'm not a big Lego collector except for when I find stuff in clearance.

OP mentioned that people rarely post their toys anymore and I was giving my perspective. Yeah I get that no one owes anyone a reply but if anons want less spam/trolling/shilling than encouraging the ones who do post toys is going to improve the board.
I stopped going out of my way to pose my toys and try to take a decent picture because it seems like no one cares or appreciates it. Its not schizo to point out that if your effort to post a cool pic gets not response, you wont want to keep doing it.
>>
>>11573631
because you can find less of it on clearance and at Ross?
... that just means they're ordering less product.
What we get now feels like a trickle and some of it feels like if you blink and you miss it. I was barely aware that figures like nemesis enforcer were released and the Joe thread barely had a reaction either.
Which is another thing that makes people posting images so vital to /toy/, since it allows other people to know what's currently out and also the health of the market in general.

Also, forgot to ask about what happened to the people of the UK? I know that 4chan isn't allowed to be used or viewed over there, but i wonder how many people are no longer able to access it now.

The only Classified Joes I ever saw in clearance stores were Lady Jaye and Origins Baroness, so they do make their way to clearance when they suck enough.

And dialing in the exact quantity to order that guarantees it'll all sell and you won't be stuck with usellable space-hoggers that you'll take a loss on is normal for retailers.

>but i wonder how many people are no longer able to access it now. Do we have anons from the UK posting here still?
They can still access it AFTER going through an umasking process by their government so their government can regulate and monitor what they post, and arrest them for hurtful-words if they shitpost on anything.

We're on a social media site. Everything, or at least most of what you post is for the purpose of engagement even subconsciously. Not them but if I go through the hassle of snapping a pic, removing exif data, and filling out the captcha, I want at least a little something in return. Doesn't necessarily have to be solely compliments either. It can be a question, banter, an opinion on the quality/faithfulness of the set, it just has to be something. I feel proud of my collections too yet I don't see any reason to add the extra step in posting them online for no reason other than for the sake of it.

If you're so above it all, what is the point in posting your collection if no one will acknowledge it? Shouldn't looking at it sit in your room be more than enough fulfillment? You like taking pictures of it, fine, but why go the extra mile in uploading it to the internet if you truly didn't care about getting attention?

>No one owes you anything.
True. But even if I don't always live up to this, I do try to think of something to say to people that have clearly put some effort into their posts. I don't owe them my engagement but I'm sure I made their day a little more fun and interesting so I do it for the sake of it.
>>
>>11573949

Because people don't need to acknowledge it to appreciate it. Lots of folks just lurk.

Because I do enjoy discussion but don't NEED it to justify posting my toys. Goddamn.

You've already shown yourself to have a lizard brain that only views posts as words on a screen and not written by living people so the concept of giving people an authentic interaction, not even out of obligation or being expected to do it 24/7, but only when it feels natural is something so alien to you that you project your cold narcissism onto anyone that does it.
>>
>>11573969
>Oh, so you do want attention even if people don't show it in the form of replies.
I genuinely don't care either way. I just like to post my toys. If they get (You)s cool, if not, whatever. I don't get discouraged. Also, I don't use any other social media so I'm not seeking attention there.

>Nothing wrong with that but it makes your previous 1-uping look like the retarded chest-thumping that it was.
This isn't the gotcha you're making it out to be. Not sure why you're getting your tightie whities bunched about this.

And you apparently barely even enjoy this hobby if you're just taking pics and shit for the (You)s. Sorry that it bothers you that you're not getting attention, maybe take better pictures.

>>
>>11573956
>Because people don't need to acknowledge it to appreciate it. Lots of folks just lurk.
This is extremely true. with the way the internet works, there's 100-1000x as many people lurking than there are posting. And since this is one of the most popular sites on the internet, it's likely 1000x.

I go to other forums still and a lot of people there say they come to /toy/ yet almost all of them admit that they won't post here for various reasons.

So there's a lot of eyes watching this place, even if they never make a post.

Its funny I saw your post, I wasn't going to say shit but I just had to. Fuck this goddamn board and fuck these cocksucking power abusing jannies.

I'm new to collecting toys so despite knowing 4chan for 22 years, this board is new to me.
I come back a few times a day in hopes of seeing news and discussions, but there are maybe 5-10 new messages across all threads at best.
I shared some of what I like and tried to ask people what they really like. I made some threads to gather some info (like the lego batmobile one). Overall people are pretty decent, maybe just disinterested.
So I also end up checking preternia, toyark, snd some subreddits which can be a bit more active.

People act like it's been a quick decline over the last few years or so, but it has been a far slower decline. More like it started 8-10 years ago.

Its probably tinfoil hat theory, but if I had to hazard a guess it would be:

1.) There has been an actual, pointed effort erode away the "old" internet. The mass media has always treated this place as the seedy underbelly of the internet, when in reality, its just been like.../pol/ and /b/. So you might have, at one point, had a few shitheels that were easy to ignore. Now every single thread feels like its just being assaulted be retards who have stupid opinions and have to argue every fucking minuscule thing they can, just to get a rise out of others. They scrape reddit and google to find any and every complaint and/or picture of broken toys and then just repost them over and over again to show how shit that line supposedly is, and they act like disingenuous fags and pretend they're just trying to have civil discussions.

2.) Straight-up dead internet theory. Like so many other sites, this place has been flooded with bots (even moreso with the advent of AI) that spin up negativity, because shit posting drums up way more engagement than actual, thoughtful discussion.
>>
>>11574101
Actually the same. Shit, I remember hot wheels threads on one of the smaller imageboards back in 2020 when I first started collecting HW, they were actually lively, with discussions and pics and shit. Here, now? Barren desert. The only interesting thread of late was about Sun-Man line and that HW one with Hot Bird as OP's pic. I have the same Hot Bird in my collection, never got around to posting it, seeing like my posts gathered a total of 0 (you)'s and discussion.
>>
>>11574182

>>
>>11574153
While you're right on both counts, it has gotten noticeably worse in the last few years. Even just two years ago this place was still fairly functional. Then the brandwarring shitposter came on the scene and most import threads, particularly SHF & Figma became flooded with nonsense. Some of the most popular domestic threads started going to crap not long after. Now it's become common to insult people who post too many pictures of their own toys, especially if they use recognizable backgrounds. Looking at 4stats.io(the charts are down right now) we get about 1000 posts per day now compared to the 2000-3000 we used to before shitposters became out of control.
>>
>>11574202
>Now it's become common to insult people who post too many pictures of their own toys
This is the most annoying thing. I post my stuff with a diorama background so it's pretty recognizable at this point and I have some guy who constantly whines about my pics like he's a jealous ex girlfriend or something. It's beyond fucking weird and the guyhas been doing it for years. I will admit that one of the reasons I haven't abandoned this place yet is because I know it drives him up the wall. That's really the kind of attitude we need, more posting to spite the shitters.
>>
>>11573372
I just lurk now because what's the point of commenting in a thread when it's mostly going to be met with low quality catchphrases, brand war idiots or grifters trying to make everything about American politics.
Only good threads are the photo ones because at least that's OC.
>>
>>11574202

Huh? It can be used and viewed here still (source: I'm on here on a regular computer with no VPN).
>>
Im the anon who posted up above about not getting (you)s for OC. Glad to see it stirred up some discussion even if it just descended into name calling. After sleeping on it I wanted to add.

It seems really disingenuous to say "don't expect any response for posting pics." This is an image board made for posting about toys. Some people might have the attitude where you should do it for the love of it but if thats really the case....why not just stare at your shelf by yourself?
This is the only place I have to geek out about my niche hobby. If I get an awesome find in the wild, this is the place where I can talk about without having to explain why im buying toys in the first place. Its not about getting a million dopamine hits, but a little bit of engagement goes a long way.
And the anons who pointed out how many lurkers there are who don't reply - that only proves my point. If 1000x of people see the posts but can't be bothered to reply...what's the point of trying to engage?

Maybe next time someone posts their cool thrift store find, or tries to recreate a meme or is just showing off their shelf, why not take a minute, leave a reply and help boost the kind of posts we want to see.
>>

I've always been fond of vintage toy collecting. Some of my greatest treasures lie in yesteryear's wares. If anything, prices for new things being insanely high gives people a chance to reflect and maybe grab something that slipped through their fingers long ago. So many of us got so spoiled for choice and thought the good times would never end. Honestly, the people dropping off the boards and collecting in general are fair weather fans. I buy toys for the love of the game (and deep-seeded psychological trauma, but mostly for the love of the game). There's always something to find, always something to play with. If you were just buying toys to check boxes or display, times are rough for you.
>>
>>11574268
Not trying to be condescending but have you tried a toy discord. I am at a few of them and the engagement is a lot higher and more personable.
I'm sure some anon will jump kn and say x, y, and z about why discord is bad. But the best part is if a server sucks you can just leave or even make your own about the toys you want to discuss. Also no stupid trolls shitting the place up like here.
>>
>>11574268
Honestly, do you even still enjoy the hobby if you're just in it for the (You)s?

>Some people might have the attitude where you should do it for the love of it but if thats really the case....why not just stare at your shelf by yourself?
Because I fucking feel like it. Why do you guys overthink things like this? It's not complex or complicated. I'm like taking pictures of my toys. I like to post them here, sometimes it gets engagement. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't need engagement to enjoy posting my toys though.

>This is the only place I have to geek out about my niche hobby. If I get an awesome find in the wild, this is the place where I can talk about without having to explain why im buying toys in the first place.
That's great but no one owes you a reply. This is the weird issue here where you're desperately craving someone to engage with.

>Maybe next time someone posts their cool thrift store find, or tries to recreate a meme or is just showing off their shelf, why not take a minute, leave a reply and help boost the kind of posts we want to see.
I'll reply if I feel like it. I'm not going to just reply for the sake of it just because you have a fucking chip on your shoulder. Stop being such a victim and just enjoy your toys you fag. This place isn't a hug box.

Learn to read. If all you took from what I wrote is "I want (you)s" then you clearly missed the point or are purposely being disingenuous.
Your replies feel like trolling or rage bait. You win if more people turn away from this board. You will have lots of threads to bump with your pics and you can enjoy no one replying. Sounds perfect for you. Keep loving the game! Games are much more fun when you play by yourself.
>>
>>11574212
Yeah, I'm constantly seeing the few who post pictures with any regularity get harassed, particularly Kanji, so when someone posts pics of a figure I'm interested in I tend to thank them/compliment their pics. Is there a way to maybe appeal it? I mean the retrospammer/necrobumper has been gone for a while now. Maybe we could get autosage removed now.
>>
>>11574379
No. This is not how it works. You don't get to try and act like you are above it all for being called out.
>its desperate and needy for expecting mild engagement on a hobby image board with dedicated threads to specific fandoms
Yes. How awful of me for thinking that people reading a toy board might want to discuss toys.
>oh I am superior and only post toys for the love of the game. I dont care about discussing them.
The fuck nigger are you some toy exhibitionist who cranks it out to showing off your dusty shelf while other people are talking about Japanese gundam imports?
If you dont care about engagement why are you even replying to this thread? It makes no sense that you say you won't engage with someone making OC but you will come here to brag about your pure love of toys that transcends everyone else. You are trolling that's why.

Basically you are acting superior because you have nothing else other than pretending you are the best at playing with dolls on the internet. Congratulations buddy, you can have that win. The only grip I need to get is on your mother's hair while I cream pie her. Maybe she will have a son that isn't a total autistic man baby disappointment. The game you should start loving is Russian roulette. Try to put down a tarp so your diseased brains dont get all over your poorly posed Marvel Legends.

>Autosage doesn't help. I collect small and slow lines, thread wouldn't last long before it's deleted.
Yeah, it basically killed the Digimon threads, not that there's been much to talk about on that front lately.

That would require the mods to give a damn

Guy is having a meltdown right now because he doesn't get enough (You)s.
>>
>>11574445
Yeah its embarrassing. He's not like me. After a long day of not getting any replies I lean back and just say "oh yeah.....that's the love of the game." He should learn not to want to engage with anyone like I do.

You have issues bro

They gave a damn to personally appear in a lego thread, so try harassing IRC

>I'm constantly seeing the few who post pictures with any regularity get harassed, particularly Kanji
It's not just him, it's the guy with the NECA diorama from the Marvel thread, the Power Girl anon from the DC thread, Kanji, and several others. I don't know why those three in particular get hated on so much, considering they're probably three of the most consistent posters on the board.

I've started venturing into more robot threads and it seems you gunpla, modular robot, and TF guys post more of your shit, but for the threads I go to, no one really posts anymore aside from those three and a handful of others.

Practically everything from GI Joe Classified before this year ended up on clearance or Ross. If you watched the GI Joe Generals threads, there were a lot of posts for shit on clearance, especially deluxe stuff like Metal Head and Scrap Iron.
Personally, i bought Croc Master and the RAM cycle at Ross, along various other GI Joes like Firefly, Outback, and a couple of others.
> normal for retailers.
Point of the matter is that they've scaled way back. Not just from that bomb of a movie, but also later stuff like from the waves the figures i found at Ross came from. So the movie line was already a scaled back movie line, because of how little they actually released for it. So next releases were a scaled back too... and then again, we're still the line scaled back again. I can't even find the Classified line in my local stores anymore, i ahve to go to the city next to mine to find them and my city isn't even small. 150k+ with 4 walmarts and 2 targets.

And i lied, I've also started finding that generic army builder lady from this year, but i didn't bother to get her because female nobody.
Shitty as fuck that the easiest way for me to buy a toyline is through Ross.

Really? Last i read, sites like 4chan were banned AND the UK government was fining 4chan $100,000 every day/month/week for not following UK regulations. So now 4chan and kiwifarms are jointly suing the UK government.

Why are you quoting 1-4 words from multiple anons talking about different things and acting like it's two people arguing?

My deepest sympathies to all those anons in /toy/ who post original content and just want to have a pleasant time. I will continue to post my toys and silently enjoy yours. I appreciate you and we have more in common than you could imagine.

That’s kinda funny actually

But anon, didn't you hear? You're supposed to comment, like, and subscribe to every toy picture you see. You owe it to the photographer, he needs the engagememt, otherwise, why bother?

Well I'm on it now so I guess it's not, I also don't follow government shit so I don't know about the other part either.

Because they have large collections and enjoy them. It's pure jealousy.
