Slender vampire Hordak is best Hordak.
Also something that I really enjoyed in the CGI series was things like Hordak and Sorceress' wings, or Evil-Lin's headdress where it looks like a window into a cosmic background. Like their magic is being fueled by the universe itself.

It's like they hate us

I also find it funny, they either get to do snake men or hordak but no series did all of them together in one continuity. I fucking hope the next cartoon will be good and won't end on a cliffhanger but will have an actual conclusion.

The CGI series kinda did the snake men, but they were more of a plot device.
Also CGI-Man deserves two more seasons. Especially if they got to continue with the plan of having the next season set on Earth which would kinda tie-in with the movie.

When will Mattel create new villains? You can't always rotate between evil warriors, horde and snakemen.
>>
>>11585533
Do you mean a whole new faction? What would they even make them for there's nothing really happening that would justify the risk without it being related to something old like all the new old snake men from origins. If there was a cartoon of something they'd have a chance but theres still a million characters and history they could adapt so I dont see it ever happening. Not in a nostalgia property like MotU.

Singular new characters maybe. But all I can think of when I say that is purple deadpool
>>
>>11585533
I'd think there should've been opportunities to make some for Revelations/CG

Hordak X entrapta was the best ship to come out of nu-ra
>>
>>11585533
At this point it's risky, at least to the higher ups. Firstly because so much of modern media is based on fueling nostalgia in order to bake in an audience, studios are afraid of change because often when they do make change, they lose the fanbase. And secondly, because they just aren't very good at originality anymore, or at least the ones that are, aren't the ones brought on to big brands because studios want the safe bet.
Which is not to say that it's impossible, I think the safest way would be to do a soft roll out. Pick a character in Skeletor's crew who could conceivably strike out on their own, either Evil-Lyn or Tri-Klops, and have them start recruiting their own minions, that way you can introduce new characters and see how audiences respond. This is easier too if they have a longer running series and are producing episodes weekly, that way they can track toy sales and ratings, "oh that episode with Crunchlor on his own for a lot of the episode was really popular, let's give him more screen time!"
If audiences respond then by the end of a season you could "kill" off Skeletor and have the new characters be the main baddies for a season.
>>
>>11585483
>Are you excited for the 200x Cartoon Collection figures?
I am. In fact I'm actively choosing not to track down certain characters because I want the 200X version to be the main incarnation in toy collection, like Roboto.
>>
>>11585502
200X line also wont have minicomics either. Not sure if it will have cards.
>>

>Also something that I really enjoyed in the CGI series was things like Hordak and Sorceress' wings, or Evil-Lin's headdress where it looks like a window into a cosmic background. Like their magic is being fueled by the universe itself.
I agree.
Also intriguing that Hordak was going to be "impossibly old; as old as starlight." They were basically calling him the god of fear.
I did not like the way the DC comic handled "cosmic vampire more than a million years old", but it's interesting enough to give another chance.

>Mrs. Hordak
For real though, the thing I most want to see in MotU fiction now is more focus on the Horde, including showing normal males and females of Hordak's species.
I know worldbuilding this purported galactic empire in a 5-episode miniseries was too big of an ask, but the DC comic didn't do it either. I'd have to do a careful re-read to see if the Horde ever came across as more than 8 or so people who'd been trapped in Despondos, plus a couple people who portaled in (Skeletor, baby Adora) and their robots.
>>
>>11585786
My only problem with expanding Horde lore is that I'd like to keep Hordak as their final boss. I was never a jig fan of Horde Prime sending inspectors to check in on Hordak. I mean he's got his face on the side of battleships and tanks but he's also somehow just middle management?

Personally I like to think of them as escaped criminals from the prison planet who banded together to use Etheria as a backdoor to Eternia (and Grayskull.) All that talk of their galactic empire is just delusions of grandeur.
>>
>>11585792
>escaped criminals using reprogrammed horde troopers
I like this a lot actually.
>>
>>11585792
I always thought Hordak was a warlord with his own planets on his belt but he still needs to respond to Horde Prime and if he needs Hordak and other warlords for a war they answear the call. Kinds like houses in Dune universe and the Horde Prime is the emperor. Also, I enjoy the idea Hordak is just a named clone of Prime and every clone has a different name.
>>
>>11585533
Never? It's a nostalgia based series that only rehashes ideas from the 80s. Making new things kind of goes against the whole concept of selling MOTU in the first place.
>>
>>11585662
I thought initially the whole Motherboard from Revelations was going to be a new faction pushing the cyberizing of all Flash creatures.
>>
If Power Sword is already best weapon ever why do think He-Man carries an axe?

>>11585782
So you can store gumballs in there.

It's an early display version, they said they will fix it.

>>11585679
Would Crab Men run dry faster than Snake Men? Come on, pitch some idea. Clawful is already pincer guy, you could do bubble huy, armor guy, multi-legged guy, maybe someone sand themed?
>>
>>11585489
They also canonized Horde being based on monsters. I know not everyone would like that but I found intereting that they justfied it it a Horde being "primal fears, archetypes of terror, known by many names across the universe."

Not only its a fun clever explenation, it also means they're literally Universal Monsters.
>>
I was thinking. Should we call him "Hot Shot"?

1) That was clearly the name they wanted to use, they just couldn't secure the copyright.
2) It would explain H on his chest.
3)In his bio it's mentioned that "Hot Shot" is his nickname. That's the same thing they did with Ninjor/Ninja Warrior and Strong-Or/Strongarm when because they couldn't secure copyright for their names.
>>
>>11585871
Who is the frankenstein’s monster and zombie characters then?

Hell, a Bride of Frankenstein type character would have been a good adversary for She-Ra.
>>
>>11585887
Modulok would be Dr. Frankenstein and Monster.
It's him, Hordak (vampire), Grizzlor (Wolfman), Leech (Gill-Man) and Wrap Trap getting promoted to B-list to fit the theme, along with Mantenna (B movie alien?).
>>
>>11585903
Is Cy-Chop basically Edward Scissorhands?
>>
>>11585903
Ugh this fan theory falls apart so fast. Can't match up Frankenstein, THE iconic Universal monster.
>no one looks at Modulok and says ash yeah Frankenstein
The we have to include an unproduced character and start reaching for vague archetypes. Should have stopped at "hey these guys are big and monstrous." Does Hordak even drink anyone's blood?
>>
>>11585912
The DC comic established the idea that Hordak drinks people's souls. The Cosmic Enforcers and those yucky girly Princess of Power characters who kept MotU from being as grimdark as WH40K were drank in it.
>>
>>11585871
I thought they were mostly generic space pirates?

I think it's the shortest toyline in Motu history. There was She-Ra, Adora, Bow, Glimmer, Catra, Battle Armor She-Ra with Swift Wind and picture She-Ra/Shadow Weaver 2-Pack. Mermista and Glimmer/Angela 2-pack were made but never sold.

There were also some figures but they were shitty and literally just Catra and She-Ra.

I have a bunch of the figures and they're almost all awesome (Evil-Lyn's head sculpt kinda sucks and they gave Teela a fridge body), I think they didn't do well because they released during Covid, so kids weren't able to wander around toy stores and discover them (also kids don't give a shit about MOTU).

Masterverse has cooler designs for the selection of characters it has by now. Origins has a larger cast, but once the Masterverse reveals hit stores that'll mostly be Snakes, crossovers (MV just has Sun Man and Pig Head) and post-1984 Heroic Warriors like Extendar.

Well, Hordak was a Transformer who sometimes turned into one of those tanks with his face. You could think of a Horde governor as just being a more advanced one of Horde Prime's machines.
But I get how the vision of evil as Modernist with banality like middle managers Larry DiTillio put in the series bible isn't what a lot of people want from their toys. Even DiTillio himself went with Hordak being a sorcerer instead of a cyborg manager when brought back to write all his 2002 appearances before the big King Grayskull one.

It finally clicked with me why the Filmation staff thought it was OK to make Catra a regular girl in a red skirt doing a silly cat voice with no explanation: they were just redoing Catwoman from their 1977 Batman cartoon, where Melendy Britt did that voice (and to no one's surprise, Lou Scheimer's main role was Bat-Mite).

I thought it was interesting how CGI handled female characters' relationships. They seemed to be following the belief that young boys don't like romance, so there was no shipping at all. I can buy it considering the overlap in 80's toy fandom that was so omnipresent in the 2000's. Honestly reinforces my belief that the inevitable Hasbro MOTU/TF crossover should fixate heavily on Beast Wars. Gygor Primal, Battle Cat Cheetor, B'Boom Beast Man, Tyrantisaurus Megatron. This shit really sells itself. Even regarding the origins figures, a transmetals BW approach probably would have better suited the concept. Just imagine the BW cast as Roboto/Faker styled 5.5. pretenders or something. Anyways since I'm on this TF tangent anyways I wanted to add how much it irked me we didnt get a comic colored movie Apelinq repaint in the ROTB line. Hell they couldnt even be bothered to repaint POTP Optimal Optimus into Primal Prime for the ROTB line. God that movie was such a waste.

>When will Mattel create new villains? You can't always rotate between evil warriors, horde and snakemen.
I mean between those three groups there's not really a whole lot of conceptual space left for any potential new factions that wouldn't just be stepping on the toes of the existing ones, like there's a reason most fans just kind of lump the Space Mutants in with the Evil Warriors(and similarly with most of the normally unaligned one-off villains from the shows and comics) instead of having a fourth villain faction hanging around(especially since Skeletor ends up leading them anyways in the source material)

meanwhile on the side of good while the Heroic Warriors, Great Rebellion, and Galactic Guardians are technically distinct factions they freely intermesh with each other since none of them really have a distinct theme of their own and there isn't really much reason to keep them separate unless one's doing a specific sort of display

I think it worked because there is enough there in terms of Krass being orphaned as a child that you could turn that into a character trait of her having abandonment issues. It's a shame that the series isn't more expanded upon because even though they don't go far into it, the series does a really good job of adding in at least one thing that makes all the characters feel like they have history. Shit like how Kronos used to be Man-At-Arms for Kind Randor, or Man-E-Faces disfigured himself in pursuit of being a better actor and ended up being shunned, or that Cringer got his name after being captured and mutilated by R'Qazz/Beast Man who wears Cringer's claws as a trophy.

There are good things that can be harvested from the series. The designs for a lot of the characters are good, and even improvements over the originals, like Scorpia and Catra. Even if the show ends up an abysmal failure you take what does work, even if it's something small and you iterate that to improve what comes next. Slavishly staying to what Filmation did and recycling it ad nauseam will kill MOTU. Do I think She-Ra should be a flat-chested dyke moving forward? Fuck no, do I think Catra should be a hot catgirl? Hell yes. Do I think Bow should a black fag? Definitely not, should Scorpia be a buff Gina Carano type instead of the original Joan Rivers-faced 20 pack-a-day voiced monstrosity? Damn straight.

All media is submerged within the ocean that is popular culture, the things that are good float to the top and stay there in some way. Nu-Ra as a whole might collapse and sink away, but the worthwhile parts can be broken off and rise. Then you can use those parts to add to the broader MOTU raft.

>People intermittently talking about Nu-Ra qualifies as a raid
You guys gotta chill. Nu-Ra might be thinly veiled troon propaganda with minimal value, but it's still MOTU related.
For me, I'll take She-Ra, Adora, Catra, Shadow Weaver, Scorpia, Entrapa, and Hordak in the Origins line and I'll be happy. We'll have everything of value the show has to offer and the rest can fade away.

Several anons have pointed out that this thread is not the best place to discuss Nu Ra. It is tangential to toys at best.
You have to ask yourself was this show good for the brand? Did it alienate long time.fans who spend money on Motu and PoP? Yes. Did the target audience they were chasing became new Motu fans? Probably not.
And when someone is trying to convince me to see the positives by saying "99% was bad but this 1% is great." If you had a 100 skittles and 99 were poison but 1 is extra delicious, I'm still not eating them.
>>
>nu ra this

>>
>>11586897
>If you had a 100 skittles and 99 were poison but 1 is extra delicious, I'm still not eating them.
That's hyperbolic. Nu-Ra doesn't take anything away from you but time by engaging with it. It's more accurate to say "you walk around a gallery with 100 paintings and 99 of them are dull but 1 is really inspiring and will stay with you."

>Several anons have pointed out that this thread is not the best place to discuss Nu Ra. It is tangential to toys at best.
Have you been to /co/? it's a shithole and trying to keep any type of MOTU discussion going long-term there is basically impossible. Nu-Ra gets longer threads because there is goon potential, but not real discussion. Toy is a slow board, MOTU is in a discussion/news dead zone until announcements at NYCC, so we might as well just entertain idle chit chat until we get there.

Besides the writing, animation style, DEI influences and it existingnin general; my biggest problem was that they made my waifus Frosta and Razz look awful.

Here is a real question - what % ratio of good/bad do you give New Adventures?
>>
>>11586925
You do realize Chrel and Krang are completely different characters right?
>>
In a world where Nu-Ra exists, New Adventures of He-Man is a masterpiece.

>>
>>11586930
Sometimes I wonder if the reason New Adventures failed was because the toyline didn't use the Masters of the Universe branding... personally I had no idea this series even existed until years later and one of them reasons might be the weird name for the series. MotU brand should have still been on the box and promo material. Just like Star Wars is on any other spin off project.
>>
>>11586932
I don't think its the only reason it failed but it certainly didn't help.
NA seemed to come from a weird mindset of trying to cash in on He-Man but also being something completely different and chasing trends.
>>
>>11586932
>>11586937
I thought they decided to not use the MotU name because the Dolph movie bombed hard and made MotU lame to kids
>>
>>11586925
I never watched it because I hated the Turtle designs and because I lumped the animation style in with TC Roar, but comparing them directly, I feel like I unfairly dismissed it.
>>11586932
>Sometimes I wonder if the reason New Adventures failed was because the toyline didn't use the Masters of the Universe branding
Partly that, and partly because the figures looked nothing like what came before. I remember seeing He-man and Skeletor at the toy shop in 1990 and being totally underwhelmed because they looked like bootlegs.

Rise is just as bad as Nu-Ra and Roar. The flashy anime-esque animation does little to sway my opinion when it's in the service of Teen Titans Go styled writing. Ever since TMNT 2012 ended Viacom has decided the turtles have to be belligerent spergs that never shut up. I'm pretty sick of that and I want to see a return to the 90's serious and gritty roid turtle era.

The stewards of MOTU really should just fold all the coolest bits of NA into the mainline canon. Nordor and the space mutants are too based to be left behind to rot. They deserve evergreen 1984 designs, and all the cool playsets (Starship Eternia, Bola Jet, etc) should be MAA and Roboto inventions.
