This is a thread for discussing plastic brick building outside of the leading Danish brand, including such brands as:QMAN, Keeppley, Cada, Sluban, Mould King, COGO, Cobi, MegaBloks/MegaConstrux, Xingbao, Pantasy, JMBricklayer, BlueBrixx, and Lumibricks (formerly Funwhole).Archive:https://archive.palanq.win/toy/search/subject/pbbg/
>>11590579all the same family
>>11590582What do you mean?
>>11590585I think they're insinuating all these brands are made by a single manufacturer. It's difficult to see what some of the brands are, but the red lines appear to represent known associated brands while white lines seem to represent suspected ties between brands. While it's true that Gobricks supplies the majority of emerging block brands, this chart gives off tinfoil hat vibes.
>>11591586Doesn't surprise me that everyone would use the same bricks, at least they're generally good quality across the board that way. What differentiates the brands are style and minifigure design, with many brands moving to their own designs after TLG got in bed with the Chicom overlords to crack down on the biggest imitators like Enlighten. Of the brands I can identify in the chart:>SemboHave adopted a minifig variant that converts shoulder joints to a balljoint for greater range of movement, about the only change from the original; style-wise I've only had a few of their sets across several years and mostly military, though they had an interesting "Black Gold" line years ago that was basically hi-tech mercenaries; the last couple sets I can remember were quite sticker-heavy>SlubanThey've been consistent with their proprietary minifig design from the beginning that I know of, with the distinctive head on "neck&spine" that goes through the torso and joins with the hips and legs; they've gone back and forth with stickers and decals but next to no printed pieces, across many themes both civilian and otherwise (have collected a great many of their military sets, modern and WW2); they tend to do both high accuracy or somewhat simplified versions of real-life vehicles - their current military waves have sets of both trends>KaziThink they're still using the Lego minifig design or a close variant of it, have mostly had military sets from them as well and they've been reasonably accurate reproductions but at smaller scales than some of the more hyper-detailed stuff out there>QmanFormerly Enlighten, they've done some fun lines like Thunder Mission (desert warfare), a jungle-themed law enforcement versus poacher mercenaries line and that one sci-fi series an anon years ago had collected all the sets from and a Dunkirk-themed WW2 wave; their minifig design is radically different from the TLG original, having adopted a chibi-esque oversized head (pic related)
>>11592337>WomaPic related is one of theirs, they've done a few different military sets and some other stuff but they don't seem to have a consistent theme; their minifigs are unchanged from TLG's design-wiseThat's about all the ones I recognize.
>>11592347It's quite likely there's a lot of connections between the various brands, whether it's sourcing their parts from the same wholesale manufacturer to shared design teams or owners. High doubt though that everyone is under a giant umbrella, other than that of the State there anyway. This chart is by no means exhaustive, was posted a few years ago before the TLG crackdown as Qman was still Enlighten at the time.
>>11592355>that Brickset onelmao
>>11591586I consider myself fairly educated on non-LEGO brands -- MegaBloks, LaserPegs, and StrictlyBriks have been a staple in my collection for years -- but I just learned about Gobricks (and Webrick, pic related) a few weeks ago.I'm a bit embarrassed. I thought Keeppley was the new hotness.
>>11592828>>11592337Keeppley was branched off from Qman but now they've merged back into Keeppley with big orange K logo
got the Bluebrixx Blaustein Castle yesterday and this box was filled to the brim. I built all of this and the box is still 75% full.5250 pieces
So, Lego owns that stupid trademark of the mini figures, okay. Why don't the china makers just make the minifig parts and don't tell them how to put them together?Just make a shop where you sell the hats, heads, torso, arms and legs separately.
>>11595022Aren't there online shops that already do this?
>>11595382>>11595022There's no shortage of Lego-style minifigs on AliExpress, generally the stores will crop or censor listing images to fly under the radar; some brands do the same with the "dolls" included in their sets. TLG either turns a blind eye to it cuz it's mostly OG stuff or themes/IPs they themselves would never touch, or more likely the Chicoms have gone as far as they're willing to go to indulge them.
>>11595638>>11595022i think lego is trying to stop all the china sellers, but they can't.With western shop they have more success with their lawsuits. Or with those shops you actually notice since they cry out online, pay fines and delist items. On the other hand the normies buying from western shop want the "real" lego.
>>11592337>>11590579I've noticed alot of modern offbrand minifigs going for giant mascot head looks lately. Brickcraft has a Grinch advent calendar out now with a Grinch fig that has those same proportions.

>>11597738Any new Sluban?
>>11597744Dunno the reporting at this event is terrible. It's like all the influencer/grifters/shills did a loop around Blokees>Moshow>CangDao then went home to collect their internet money. The only ones that seem to check out less popular booths are MILFs with too much time, but they only take unhelpful selfies that are 75% covered with their hag faces.
im hoping lumibricks will make a set thats flat and more spaced out next. the current sets are fantastic but when theyre all sandwiched together, they look too crowded. also, just look at the fucking thing, who would want an apartment thats that close to the train station? youre telling me none of these structures have any alleyways or utility corridors, maybe a courtyard by the apartments and the jap restaurant, fuck even a walkway in between would be nice. plenty of lighting even some ominous dim lighting in the alleyways would be nice
>>11598266The claustrophobic urban planning is a hallmark of the xyberpunk aesthetic. If you look closely, there is a walkable space in between the sets on the left. The train platform is elevated, but the low light conditions of the image make it difficult to see what plane its on.Also, what fresh new hell is this captcha?
>>11598517i hear that but some street corners and roads would be nice, no?
>>11592347Those guns come with them? That's cool.
>>11600586Most military sets with figures tend to have weapons for them. Sluban's Russo-Ukro War series cracks me up cuz the Ukros have UNSC kit for some reason.
>>11598266jesus this is fucking amazing
>>11591586>I dont like the truth because muh scary conspiracy chartfaggot
>>11592916That looks like quite the rabbit hole. There’s a ton of connected sets and they don’t seem inexpensive but pretty good looking to be desu.
>>11602690it is a rabbit hole. prices are alright, could be a bit cheaper, but on the other hand you get high quality bricks (gobricks), a massive construction and tons and tons of details.the base castle has 12 steps and each took around 1-2 hours to build, while watching something in the background
>>11602965>>11602690do you play dnd with this? i would
>>11600683get one. any one of them are a solid choice. dont give anymore money to the brick jew
>>11603247I thought about it, it would be funny. maybe I can plug it into a side quest at one point. space is pretty limited inside - so using it as battle terrain is gonna be tricky
>>11603247>>11603280for reference
>>11603294ayeee i just knew you had minis too. now i gotta see the collectionand yeah it does look a lil cramped in there. it doesnt look bad but theres a lot going on
>>11603299>now i gotta see the collectionthat's very kind, but that would be too off-topic for /toy/ and would much rather fit into /tg/
What's the consensus on Brickcraft? I was at TJ Maxx tonight, and I saw the MTV cassette there. It was priced at $4, but I passed. I noticed they're on Amazon now, too. They've got some interesting licenses, including Hello Kitty?? They're like the third brand to have the Hello Kitty license. Does Sanriommust give the rights to anybody who asks?
>https://www.walmart.com/ip/32-onn-FHD-ROKU-TV-Building-nbsp-Blocks-White/15907700990I kinda want one
Half a dollar, I think it was worth it
>>11598266>just look at the fucking thing, who would want an apartment thats that close to the train station?Welcome to the Apartment buildings in Chongqing China.https://youtu.be/GnQLNqCqLXA
>>11592916>>11602690I had it, including the next two expansions. I actually didn’t like it — it was too detailed for my taste. It was an interesting experience though, because now I have a better understanding of my own preferences.I realized I don’t enjoy overly detailed buildings where you spend two hours just constructing a single wall.Don’t get me wrong — the building techniques are incredibly well thought out and quite impressive. But in the end, it simply wasn’t my cup of tea.
anyone else have a thing for that weird pale lavender lighting from the 2000s? that shit was peak
