Any particular reason why I never see Lego Ideas shilled on here? It's not like I see a rule against it so is it a matter of most entries looking like slop or is it misguided "not your personal army" board culture?

Mainly apathy and the few people left here like me not even having an account, I just look at obscure as shit parts and struggle to design anything, took me like 4 hours just to fail at combining a ratchet and balljoint brick together for example
>>
>>11600946
You should try it. Just made an account today and had a surprising amount of fun filtering the results to see sets that have a semblance of a chance at getting 10,000 supporters before the deadline and picking out the ones that I like. It's a fun little effortless "WE DID IT REDDIT!" activity to feel like you were a part of something as well as a nice way to pass time.
>>
>>11600951
I’m already struggling enough with just getting some moc ideas up on my own, and re-figuring out basics, I have a ton of pieces I washed myself but need to re-get the basic building materials
>>
>>11600945
I feel no desire to participate after seeing the shittiest nominees win time and time again. 90% of the entries are either "IRL object...BUT LEGO" or "IP from my childhood...BUT LEGOOO". And even if it was an IP I'm actually interested in it would end up being an overdesigned 18+ $300 dust collector anyway.

The only Ideas sets I like are throwbacks to older themes and builds like the Viking Village or the Baracuda Island. However those shouldn't even be icons sets in the first place in my opinion, we should have those themes anyway, or at the very least in Creator like they've been doing with the castles and ships. Ideas rarely offers anything on that level for me to care.

We can complain all we want about how this will inflate the price of minifigures, but Lego needs something unique going forward if it wants to entice people to only buy their product as the minifig copyright will eventually enter public domain. Disney for example only has like a decade until Batman and Joker hit public domain.

LMAO
gazillions of dollars on electronics
they STILL cheap-out with thin white ink printing on the legs.

WHY can't Lego print WHITE on a color, any color, and make it look solid white? are they not embarrassed by that constant fail?
that's rhetorical, I know the answer is they simply don't care(?)

(pic related is a very generous example, in reality the printing on the legs looks very grey but I'm too lazy to find a better/worse pic)
>>
>>11601124
Am I the only one who's not surprised by this? Hell, when I was a kid, I always said that future LEGO minifigures would talk, have lights and sounds, and move on their own. Of course, I was wrong about the last part, but I was right about the rest.

I'm probably going to buy a few smart brick sets depending on the price or at least one, for the sake of novelty and as a piece of LEGO history. This concept definitely isn’t going away, especially since it's rumored that LEGO spent over half a billion dollars developing it. I even read that the number might be around $750 million. That’s crazy.
>>
>>11601175

WHAT DOES IT MEAN??
WHAT THE FUCK THEY DO???

lego minifigures are ULTRA-small. tiny!
what does it do?
it sure cant walk ot swing the sword around because Lego minifig is basically an almost 5POA figure. and can do very basic articulation...

if it will be standing and doing "arm goes up" and "arm goes down" it will be.... "gee thanks i guess..." kind of reaction.
Nothing to be impressed buy.
Lego minifigs are way to tiny to impress anyone with super electronic stuff inside because there is not that much space inside to make them do cool moves...

the side-torso printing is 100% going to scratch-off with the arms rubbing on it

do they seriously think people will see this icon and not toss it in the trash eventually? it's such a "well, we followed the rules and put it on there!" maneuver. these will be played with (rub off the icons) then sit on shelves for 50 years, then, ALL get tossed in the landfills. (3% will have attentive people who "know" about it? maybe 5%?)

such an irresponsible kick-the-can deferment of responsibility. hey, it's the consumer, not us! WE put the icons on it! on that tiny tiny piece of plastic.
>>

>>

>these will be played with (rub off the icons) then sit on shelves for 50 years, then, ALL get tossed in the landfills.
that's the entire hobby nowadays. most sets, including kids' sets, have too many specialized, small pieces for people to bother taking them apart and building new things, it's all shelf warmers. Destined to be thrown out one day rather than passed down to children. No one is going to take apart their UCS Falcon or Rivendell.

I might have a problem. I'm building 2-3 different fleets, with help from rebrickable. The republic fleet will get a Venator in January, but if that isn't in proper scale with Acclamator and Invisible Hand, I will be with a rebrickable one that is.
I also have a bunch of companion ships to Home One coming up in bricklink mail: MC80 Liberty, MC80 Defiance, x2 dreadnoughts, and a Dauntless class. All in scale to a properly calculated Home One (not the ridiculous 1200 meters that's officially claimed, that's how long a normal MC80 is).
Lastly, I'll get a rebrickable Munificent in scale with the rest of the Republic and Seppie ships. I really really like the starships line. I skipped Falcon because it's too iconic and I don't care about it, and it's more of a starfighter than a capital ship. And who gives a shit about sequels, I skipped Kylo Ren's shuttle.
Obligatory complaint about smart brick sets goes here. At least I'll have more money for other things in 2026, and the Ganondorf diorama wont buy itself.

>>
>>11601319
>because they're legally obligated to, right? Retard.
um... retard? kinda unnecessary. I'm not even going to say you are, because that was my point.

sure, they "have to" put that on there, but the fact that it will likely rub off, and it's on a small object, and when the arm is down, you can't see it even if it doesn't rub off.... that's all irresponsible.

perhaps they want to throw the blame back on "the system"? hey, they approved it, the tiny, hidden, probably rubbed-off warning.

these WILL wind up in the trash. I don't know the science of how they poison the ground, but they will. the little warning is ridiculous.

I'm definitely a manchild but I do try to be creative with Lego now and then. Before I built my 2nd Acclamator, I tried my hand at making a republic Victory Star Destroyer, from the bones of a rebrickable alt build. It took me over a month and still I was dissatisfied with the slope of the hull being incorrect. It was definitely a nice "zen" thing to do though, and I honed a skill doing it (be nice, I don't have many spare parts and am an amateur builder).
>>
>>11601332
At least you build your own sets. It drives me mad when I see faggots begging for something like a Tie Avenger, as if without Lego's intervention, it would never see the light of day. Make it yourself, that's the whole fucking point of the hobby. It's pathetic.
>>
>>11601296
I'm amused by the idea that someone would throw out the toy they spent 100 bucks on the instant the warning telling them not to rubs off
>>
>>11601334
Agreed, though I can understand why. It requires an insane amount of spare Lego to build with, or a decent chunk of change ordering parts on Bricklink. It's usually cheaper to have Lego make an official set. It's the worst idea Lego have ever had.

>Batteries expand over time and can be known to explode and leak and these ones are seemingly permanently in-place with no method to remove.
>Requires wireless recharging which degrades battery life and cause overheating issues.
>It's unclear what technology is actually inside the figure and there's no 'off switch' to any of it.
>It devalues the visuals of the figure as the warnings are printed on the figures sides.
>The torso is attached to the legs so the figures are not as customisable.
Lego may create versions of characters using this that have never had a normal figure, meaning we miss out on the normal figures - imagine MCU Doctor Doom comes with this junk, or perhaps Symbiote Spider-man?
>Lego will use it as an excuse to raise prices further and keep prices raised even in sets without the AI Bricks.
Lego raised prices and switched to paper bags for renewability and is now creating figures with a bunch of electronics nobody wanted that cannot be recycled and will need to be disposed of much more regularly as opposed to normal figures.

there's only 1 reason this will flop:

PRICE

I don't care how amazing that electric brick is, or how the electric figures interact with it. even if they levitated off the table and did backflips on their own. if it lights up, cool. people can make poop noises with their own mouths... it won't be "worth" the asking $$$$

the only reason Vidiyo "flopped" was because the sets were twice as expensive as the other Lego sets. the sets themselves were amazing. as a matter of fact, I might even go so far as to say the sets were superior to the regular sets available at the time. but nobody bought them, because of the PRICE
>>
>>11601568
No one bought them because they were stupid mishmash crap with that terrible salmon and turquoise color scheme AND they were overpriced.
>>
>>11601575
I love how these smart bricks fail on all fronts in appealing to people. Parents are going to be sickened by both the price increase and for defeating the purpose in giving their kids something to play with that doesn't involve apps and for adult fans, those fucking soulless battery disposal symbols and general ewaste-ifying of mini-figs is outright blasphemous to the appeal of the brand. Hell, I would think that kids would get tired of them quickly in favor of actual vidya/apps or regular and cheaper electronic toys like those roaring Jurassic Park dinos. As shitty as the world can be sometimes, I'm glad that more and more people are discovering that premium pricing =/= quality.

Basically, they fail in terms of visuals, affordability, and long-term preservation.

It's very possible.

Also, there will be some minifigures that are 100% Smart Bricks exclusive, at least in 2026.

>>11601822
Right now, only one Animal Crossing set will include Smart Bricks, and it's releasing in March. The regular AC sets should come out in June or August, but they might include more Smart Bricks. For non-minifigure themes like Mario (for now) and Pokémon, they will feature the Smart Brick itself, but no smart minifigures.
>>
>>11601827
I also think we might finally get Mario minifigs, but they will be smart minifigs, since they are retiring all course building system sets in June 2026 and there's rumours of atleast 10-12 new Mario sets in August 2026. All I know is Lego put a pause on first half Animal Crossing and Mario sets releases for this soft reboot and to make space for the Pokémon launch.

There was a rumour we might get a smart brick built Toad next year.

It really doesn't make any sense. Lego (especially when it comes to star wars) is going all-in on catering to adults. Adults don't give a shit about legos having "smart bricks" that make noises when you swoosh them around. To a kid, this might be cool, but these sets are so expensive that kids can't buy them, just the adults. The adults who don't give a shit.

And so here we are with 90 dollar smart brick X-wings that are barely bigger than microfighters, that cost that much ostensibly because of the smart brick shit, but are too expensive for kids to get, and too dinky for adults to want. So who the fuck is this for?
>>
>>11601400
This shit is one of the reasons why I haven't bothered with stickers since getting back into building legos. My lego heyday as a kid was when practically everything was printed. So now I just take the sticker sheets unused and keep them in the instruction manuals and pack them away. Even the big UCS ships like Jango Slave I I'd rather keep unstickered than put those fucking things on. I'm even fine having blank control panels and whatnot, I can just use my imagination, better than a goddamn sticker.
>>
>>11601916
>So who the fuck is this for?
I remember hearing the theory that Lego is trying to "un-pleb" itself by creating more and more ridiculously expensive and/or large premium products that only a premium customer base can and want to afford, weeding out the undesirable poorfags and little Timmys who want to buy a $5 buildable car from their pocket money.
>>
>>11601933
I'm familiar with that theory. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, the overpriced smart brick idea still doesn't make any sense. Pricing out little Timmy in order to sell 1000 dollar sets to soijaks is one thing, but the 18+ crowd with deep pockets isn't going to be interested in buying a 90 dollar microfighter that makes sounds. They're not swooshing their x-wings around in the bathtub.

I think this is just vidiyo all over again. But this time they're trying to force the meme by attaching it to all new licensed sets.

Lego Ideas can dismiss your MOC even if it's really popular, unlike BrickLink where the popular designs (in their theme) get created.

Lego has done many Netflix IPs, so this is obviously on Lego's radar.

it took Lego a full year to make a set for Frozen. yeah. Disney Princess FROZEN. Elsa, Anna, the snowman guy. one. full. year. that was also an unexpected hit, very similar to what KPopDH experienced. (but more surprising, since y'know... it was... DIsney!)

so 1 year minimum. not this Xmas, but next year's Xmas.

I probably did, but I couldn't remember if it was here or somewhere else lol. someone else probably asked the same thing before, too

I don't care so no coping or dilating will happen.

I'm curious if KDH will still be popular once the sets eventually release. I don't like the character designs with their wacky unique hairstyles so I probably won't be interested in sets anyway. c'mon that purple mohawk thing looks ridiculous.

I actually think the smart bricks and minifigs are not a bad idea. But they won't be executed well. We've seen the terrible looking printing on the minifigs, and both will be overpriced for a little speaker. I'm sure they'll be common in second hand bulk in 2 or 3 years time though.

-is that Anna from Frozen?
-didn't the redhead skater girl get her eyes poked out? is that a different redhead?
-I know the kids all grew up 8 years between seasons, but I don't recognize most of them, based on facial expressions or hair styles.
-speaking of hair, again we get another set that includes a hat-with-hair, and a hat on a now-bald-looking head. is the guy in the suit a bald guy? probably not.
-where's the mom and the cop guy? I know it's already got 13 minifigs, but it's still $300. they could have included a couple more. unless there's legit reasons the mom and cop guy couldn't be there?
-that van should have been its own set. among the preview merch for the season, there's tons of things with that radio station van. tons. yet Lego makes you spend $300 to get it? lame!

-at least it appears to have le epic feature to grab those two trees and "pull" the set apart? that might be kinda cool, if that's indeed what it does.
>>
>>11602944
They should re-release the upside down set with this. There's no reason not to make more sets based on the show.

>>

it was the centerpiece of last season, where the villain Vecna guy grew up or whatever. I thought I remembered a grandfather clock? oh look, it's there in the middle.

Netflix series, including Stranger Things, have that effect where you binge them in one night. wow what a night! [that series] is the coolest thing ever! ah! so good! and then two weeks later you are like... what happened? I don't remember.
>>
What's the point of making mocs? Are they art? Or are they just for the creators enjoyment? There are tens of thousands of amazing mocs on flickr or instagram that get zero views basically.
>>
>>11603114
Art is subjective, so I'd say they're art. I build for my own amusement. Instagram is garbage nowadays. Unless you're making videos, you're not going to get views and that's by design. I don't even know who still uses flickr. I still post stuff on instagram, but that's mostly out of habit at this point.
>>
Why are Lego still making Strangers Things sets? Like, do people care? I keep getting targeted with Doritos ads, but do people actually care, I can't imagine there's actually Stranger Things fans still around.
The era of 80s nostalgia has come and gone, people are already feeling nostalgic for the 2000s and 2010s.
I'm just saying Lego should make sets of Netflix series people actually want, like K-pop Demon Hunters. It's more popular than Squid Game and Lego sure as hell aren't making sets based on a violent TV show.
>>
>>11603220
Dude, ST season 4 was biggest netflix release ever, after a long gap between season 3 and 4. 5 is super hyped. The trailer for 5 is their most watches trailer ever and top 5 trailers. This season will be huge and upside down set was a top seller, lego needs now to do sets when there's hype

You guys know the smart minifigs won't be hazardous or explode, right? Lego spent over half a billion dollars on this tech, they thought of all safety testing for it. Smart minifigs will last as long as normal minifigs, for hundreds of years.

I just know that somebody at Lego was begging to get Squid Games somehow. it's got the same charm as Netflix One Piece, but alas, it's too violent and had to be rejected.

if Lego has the ability to do in-house custom minifigs (simply using the printers or whatever) then 100% somebody has a few pink-hooded guards on their desk

I hear they are doing another season of Squid Games? the other one ended with a tease of an American-location based game. IF that goes through, perhaps... one of the kid's games they play.... will be based on LEGO? in a reverse-collaboration. and somehow, Lego can make a set based off the bricks used in the show.

>>
>>11603868
Not really sure what Jangs plan in life is. His youtube career is failing, and will only get worse because he isn't willing to become sponsored or shift his style to be friendlier to the algorithm.

He will never make time for the city, or anything outside of apparently working 18 hours a day making reviews. And he's been out of the tech industry since 2007, so he has no employable skills anymore, if youtube fails he loses his house. I'm assuming his wife doesn't have a career to really support them since he works so much.

Honestly suicide may be on the horizon.

Ninja just suffered from the simplistic building style that plagued Lego at the time which was way worse in City.

Some sets definitely overused burps and lurps, but I can't believe someone could see Ninja Flying Fortress and say it is uninspired.

this was from the ideas submission. the cave the goonies' adventure takes place in is housed in a facade of one eyed willy's ship, with some other scenes from the movie. way better of a concept than 'gray pancake almost 30" around that makes you puke if you turn it around.

Some would so say. Of course, these settlers were probably at best the welcoming committee for the raping and pillaging armies of the Spanish or the Dutch (and English) slave merchants so they were probably more than justified in chasing them off. It's subjective ultimately though, you can read into it whatever you want.

Natives want to strengthen their bloodlines by having the white pirates couple with their women while they sit in the sacred cuck chairs and watch. Based pirates choose to throw themselves off the cliff rather than pollute their own bloodlines, leaving natives to seethe and continue inbreeding.
