https://www.hasbropulse.com/product/G35465L00Looks like they finally made it to 10% of the way there. This is still sad watching the merch crash and burn with the Ares movie. And it could have been saved if only if it were more reasonably-priced.
>>11603246> if only if it were more reasonably-priced.It's likely priced this high to account for lower anticipated sales volume and maybe higher licensing fees. Most (All?) other Haslabs were for IPs they already had the license and were making product for.
Yeah, this ain't happening. Not after Ares crashed harder than the Hindenburg.
>>11603271It would have sold well in spite of that if it weren't for the price. Ares flopped because it didn't give fans what we wanted, which was a continuation of the Sam and Quorra story. It didn't flop because there are no fans. On the bright side you can dumpster-dive behind movie theaters for rare Tron popcorn buckets no one bought.
>>11603246Still didn't see ares, should I?
>>11603279Why not? It'll be your last chance to see anything Tron on the big screen again.
>>11603279its not great, it's not horrible. It just is. Nice visuals and soundtrack make for a fun time if you just go turn your brain off and have a snack.
>>11603279The YouTube reviews about it are more entertaining. And also free.
>>11603316>soundtrackHaven't seen it but I did skip through the soundtrack and it seemed very mediocre almost like someone playing with synthesizers for the first time. It was also very same-y, Legacy had more variety in it's sound
At least the 6" Legacy figures are still coming.
>>11603246How many backers has this thing been averaging per day?
>>11603379It got several hundred on the first two days, then it slowed down to maybe a dozen backers per day.
>>11603359I hope they make the 80s Tron in 6” too. The Legacy figures look a bit underwhelming. I guess the light up suits are hard to pull off with mere paint but with the old white/light gray suits instead of black, it might look a tad better since there's less contrast. But anyway this is gonna be another Adventure Series probably will hit Ollies eventually
>>11603279It was absolutely terrible (not in a fun way.) I don’t know who it was made for. It’s fitting because whoever thought this Haslab was a good idea at Hasbro is equally out of touch and should be fired. How can focus groups and market research still be a thing and mega corporations still be so clueless? It seems like everything is done in spite of the consumer and public consensus now.
>>11603486>How can focus groups and market research still be a thing and mega corporations still be so clueless? It seems like everything is done in spite of the consumer and public consensus now. When they're pushing an agenda, they tend to ignore shit and create their own studies that speaks positively about their agenda. It's like when cigaratte companies funded studies on the benefits of smoking or how circumcizing dicks is the greatest thing since indoor plumbing. So they use those super biased documents to convince accountants and higher ups of all the great shit that comes from making a super biased product, while doing their best to ignore all established knowledge or more researched studies. Here's a minicomic made by one of the creators of the Green Lantern cartoon about his experience with testing the cartoon with kids. Pretty funny shit, especially given how the GL:TAS and Bruce Timm's career ended up.
>>11603486Look closely at the figures. They're 3.75" figures with the same level of sculpt quality and detail as 6" figures. Hasbro has apparently reformatted the way it does 3.75" figures now, and they noticably upped the level of quality to them. I think they look awesome. The only catch is that price that makes them to be unobtanium. And if this is the level of detail and quality that Hasbro plans on or 3/75" scales, then I am all for it IF they can do something about that price.
>>11603681Those aren't just renders, either. Hasbro showed the actual fgures at NYCC. They're great figures with great details. The price just sucks.
>>11603681>They're 3.75" figures with the same level of sculpt quality and detail as 6" figuresHasbro's 3.75" figures have had the same level of quality and detail since the late 00s. Only the paint apps were lacking, especially when they started doing the printed paint apps.BTW, you're looking at professionally painted figures. So of course it looks much more detailed and won't have the plastictically look that production figures will have.Even Mattel's prototypes can look great when they'er hand painted.
>>11603708Look at the face sculpts on the Tron figures. They're definitely better than they were in that size in the past. They're even better than many figures in the 6" size. Also look at the proportions. Gone are the disproportionally short legs and overall off proportions.
>>11603486Hasbro knew exactly what it was doing. It knew it was in the riskiest market for toys ever and it wants the fans to bear the cost of any risk for it. It knew Ares would do poorly and provide no boost to this haslab. It knew Disney demanded a Tron tie in offering like the Reva lightsaber before it. It knew the only people who would buy this are adult collectors. This haslab was never intended to succeed. It was sent out to die to fill a licensing quota.
>>11603692Too bad this is DOA. I want that sexy weird looking girl.
NO stretch goalsNO hints at continuing the line furtherNO Red Light CycleNO RamNO Guard army builder NO way to buy more of Program the army builderMUST buy the display stand whether you want it or not, will NOT fit inside a Detolf$260 BASE price, but $323 after surcharges, tax & shippingAny 80s Tron fan will always note the missing Red Lightcycle, this was never a "complete" collection like they want to claim it is. It has so much against it as it does for it, and the cherry on top is that shitty pricetag.
>>11603714>Gone are the disproportionally short legs and overall off proportions.oh, you're literally talking about 3.75", meaning o-ring turds?Because actual 1:18 got great when HAsbro started making them 4" (6 feet person = 4" in 1:18) back in the late 00s.And you literally can't make them anymore detailed than they were since probably the 90s, because molding technology hasn't improved since the 70s or 80s and top tier sculptors have been taking advantage of that molding tech since the late 90s.Still, those Tron figures are hand painted prototypes and we've seen how top tier sculpts can be completely ruined with shitty paint jobs.
Whats a worse flop, this, or McFarlene's Joker fiasco.
>>11603727Or they expect fans to shoulder the cost of the Ares stuff that was NOT produced to hedge against what they spent on aquiring the license. >>11603740>NO stretch goalsThis gets me. Unlockables are motivators. Having RAM and a "warrior" as unlockables would have easily helped boost the number of backers because that's more you'd get for the money.
Where’s Daft Punk when you really need them?
Let's break the price down. Five figures at retail for $25 each would come to $125. That retail price is assumed from the price Reaction+ and others sell figures in that size for now. So that leaves two lightcycles and a light-up "grid" base for $130. Since the lightcycles aren't exactly big and ellaborate, I could see them retailing for $30 each. So that's $100 for a small light-up display base. Lose the base to bring the prices down. >>11603777>holy 7's confirms truth
>>11603783Derp I did the math wrong. After two lightcycles, the base is $70.
>>11603785The base clearly doesn't cost even close to $70 to produce. It's just there to pad the total number even more and give you the illusion that you're getting your money's worth. It doesn't even have a battery course in it. It's a cheap USB plug powered baseReally not sure what made them think this price with these offerings was a great idea. Maybe there's some kind of licensing restriction and they had to get it above a certain amount like McFarlane claimed theirs needed to be? DST was making classic Tron figures a few years ago but I'd assume their license was expired by now.
I really want the Diamond Select figures so much, but they got the scale wrong. They made them to be 7" instead of 6". That screws up the ability for them to go with anything. That's probably why their values are so low for convention exclusives. >>11603795Yeah I know it doesn't cost that much. Someone on Etsy could probably make one for half that price. It's all padding to kick up the price. I think you might be right with Hasbro having requirements placed on them by Disney because these days Disney is good at losing a lot of money, and they're probably putting a tight squeeze on licensors to get as much back as possible.
>>11603783>>11603795Haslab prices are what they are literally just for their profit margins. It's probably like a low risk high reward thing for them. If they meet/exceed the profits, they are happy they got away with fleecing suckers. If it doesn't reach minimum backer count, they are not gonna bother going into production at a lower price to make less or lose money and will just move on and try something else later
>>11603821If it doesn't get backed, then they already lost money in the license as well as the development costs for the production samples.
>>11603828Development costs for the samples and prototypes is a drop in the bucket. Just a couple thousand dollars in the artists' time and putting together the prototypes. Since they're producing the 6" figures apparently no matter what, they're already paying licensing fees to whoever is the Rights holder for Tron. These 3.75" figs would just be extra money going that way if they funded.
>>11603812>THEY GOT THE SCALE WRONG ITS WRONG ITS WRONG ITS WRONGwhat a little incel
I'm a pretty casual Tron fan, I'd buy some glow in the dark, translucent, led lights, black light paint or whatever gimmick to mimic the aesthetic in a cool way. It seems they aren't doing that.
>>11603883He's saying there's a smaller set of collectors who prefer 7" over 6" which is true. But the main issue with those was that it was DST making them. Almost all their figures are poorly articulated pieces of shit with outdated sculpting, joints and paint.
>>11603895Are you seriously trying to argue that people shouldn't care about scale? Obviously people who enjoy collecting accurate representations of characters from films or shows they love, they want them to be in scale.
>>11603883Fuck off, Michael. >>11603884Diamond Select did do that with their 7" figures in a special blacklight arcade-style box, which was actually pretty cool if you don't mind the size. >>11603895Do you come ehre just to nit-pick any excuse you can so you can argue with people?
>>11603910What the fuck is wrong with you? No one's jacking off to these, nor being perverted in any way. You pulled that retarded crap out of absolutely nothing because of my complaint about the different scale. You're good at fabricating any scenario that helps you believe that you're always right. You're totally mental because of it.
>>11603246Does this mean they’re not doing the legacy toys? Because I really want rinzler good legacy merch is surprisingly rare all I have is the Lego set
>>11604002They're still a "go" as far as I know. I hope they're not cancelled.
>>11604002no, those 6" ones were never shown off as a Haslab or dependent on the campaign. Those should still be coming though I doubt we'll get more than a wave or two since there's no shot they sell well. It'll probably be even shorter lived than the Indiana Jones line
>>11604009Well there's zero chance of getting Zuse and Gem unless they sell well.
>>11604007Geez I hope not>>11604009Really Other than the girl & the troopers what more do you need? I guess a white outfit for The Dude would be cool too
>>11604066What the fuck. What are those leg proportions. Why are their knees all so damn low?
>>11604066Damn they were NOT that fat in the movie lmao
>>11603774Stretch goals would increase the price people are already mad about since they are factored in the base price
>>11604066These are so lame bruh. They needed to be light up or glow in the dark or something. Also their complexions should be paler
>>11604014Need Gem's fat ass
>>11604151Light up? Come on, be real. You can't have super articualted figures and have room for all those spots to light up. Best they could do it GITD paint on the stripes
This new pic just made me realize all the blue parts of these are just printed on! The torsos are totally smooth and this is just going to be printing like they've been doing faces on the larger figures. That's lame! The should have all had raised sculpted detail for the cost they're charging.
>>11603681> They're 3.75" figures with the same level of sculpt quality and detail as 6" figures. Looking at the post right above, I think they duped us all with those digital renders that made these look nicer. Now that we know all the blue and red line work is just printed on and none of it is sculpted, there's a LOT more parts sharing here going on than I first thought. Several male torsos and legs are the same flat sculpts with just new printing on top. This feels even more a rip off now
>>11603246>only 9 new backers in the past 28 hours Wow, cringe. This is absolutely not getting funded.
>>11604190Then just don't bother making them desu because they look very unimpressive. It's just a generic black figure buck with some white lines on it. At least blue lines would've looked better even if less accurate
>>11604230There is such a thing as "day-glow" florescent paint. They just don't use it on Tron or any figures now.
>>11604230Did you seriously think it was possible to have electronics and lights in all the figure so that everything lights up on all their limbs and torso? Seriously? With all that articulation?
>>11604250I know it's not possible. My point is the paint does not imitate the lights well at all and therefore the figures look lame
>>11604066See, they needed to lead with this. Not the shitty 3.75 figures
>>11604327These are coming regardless. The 3.75 are the crowdfund. How does releasing the 6" figs for a totally different film and scale help the 3.75 ones get made?
>>11604329Cause you start with what people remember well (Legacy is more recent than OG, popular among 20-30s ppl that have money and love 6in). Let that be the lead, cause OG tron just isn't in anymore.
>>11603246That Steve dude comes off as a weird corporate useful idiot, he's a kiwi so they are normally breed to be inoffensive yes men so it makes sense.I assume his choices as well as the people above his are to blame and totally tone deaf. They just keep things in a certain way to ensure they all get their bonuses.Back in the day I think they would hire more passionate people.
>>11604403Also og tron has readily available diamond select figures on Amazon eBay Walmart.com and every other comicbook shop I’ve ever been to
>>11603486>>11603614Look into the making of Ares. Jared Leto was one of the lead producer that got the movie funded and made in nine years (He started work on this in 2016) Leto strongly influenced every choice and the reason it took so long was the suits desperately wanted to make the Legacy sequel that follow what happen to Tron and him finding the main charterers from the second movie while the programs started to leak out into the world and assimilate everything grey goo style. Leto was having none of it and was beating the ears around everything that wasn't about his OC. In order to get his way the comprise made was making sure this movie had sequel bait that tied to Legacy, and that Disney control composer for the movie. It's why the merc was so late t even happen, Disney was not interested in trying a another time to making Tron merc, Leto was. This is the exact opposite of a corporate made movie, this was one lone man's desperation for his big budget black tank top vanity project to happen.
>>11604403Yes Anon... That's why the OG toys are 3.75 and crowdfunded for the people that still remember that film and are more attached to that scale. Your argument doesn't make sense here.
>>11604789I agree with you. There's probably very little overlap with people who want the 3.75" OG figures and the ones who want the 6" sequel figures. I don't see how one helps the other that much.
>>11603246This is looking like it might be the biggest haslab failure yet.
>>11604988Can't be worse than Reva's lightsaber
>>11604990that needed 5000 and got 1400no way this hits 2800
>>11604988>>11604990You mother fuckers just gonna forget about me? I failed so badly they don't even have me archived on Pulse's website!>624 out of 3000 backers needed
>>11605007He deserved it.
>>11603740No MCP is the biggest WTF for me. If this is intended to be an all encompassing Tron 82 set, how the fuck do you not include the MCP with some sort of spinning gimmick?
>>11603740>>11605060I'm fairly certain the goal of this was to gauge interest and have some tooling paid for that they don't need to take the full risk on. If this were to be a gangbusters project, pretty sure in a couple of years they'd be doing another wave leveraging the existing tooling (probably reissuing Flynn and another figure in blacklight reactive deco) a couple of new figures, and an MCP playset.
>>11604997>needed 5000>>11605007>3000 backers neededThe Haslab minimums have really crept up over the years. For Ghostbusters it went from 7k needed for the first one to be backed, to 10k for the second, to 12k for the most recent. Haslabs started as super low run things, which helped justify the higher prices, yet as they increase the minimums needed their pricing doesn't becomes any less absurd. If this Tron set only needed 3k backers I'd understand the $260 price. Super niche thing, high price to justify the extremely low number sold. But at 10k there's no reason this should be so damn expensive for 3.75" scale stuff.
hasbro is spamming emails now, the desperation is setting in
>>11605243I can't believe Hasbro honestly thought this had even a snowball's chance in hell at that price. If so their hubris is insane.
>>11605111Corporate greed is a helluva thing.
>>11605007sad thing is I think had they actually advertised this correctly that one easily could have funded, there’s definitely a big muppet fan base hasbro just had no idea what they were doing with these haslabs at first
>>11605379isn't Muppets about creating your own doll? why can't you make your own cookie monster are you lazy?
>>11605332People want the figures. They just can't afford or rationalize the price.
>>11605516Hence why I said "at that price". The Rancor couldn't get 9k backers for the same reason, it was stupidly overpriced for what it was, and yet they thought a significantly less popular IP could pull 10k for this? How is this billion dollar company so far removed from reality? Their website is literally called "Pulse", yet they employ people who couldn't have their finger further from the pulse of what the consumers want if they tried.
>>11605579This was never intended to fund. Disney wanted them to do Tron and they need to remain in Disney's good graces to keep Marvel, so instead of putting out an Indiana Jones line that goes straight to Ollies they make the customer bear the risk with a haslab
>>11605007They overhauled the site recently so they removed a whole ton of previous HasLabs, successful or not. That said, Cookie Monster got memory holed the second he was DOA
>>11605421can’t you come up with an original shitpost chungusthena? Are you lazy?
>>11603486>How can focus groups and market research still be a thing and mega corporations still be so clueless? It seems like everything is done in spite of the consumer and public consensus now. They probably farm reddit and other social media for ideas. Maybe look at fan custom figures and look at how many likes the photos get on social.Normally you could blame really poorly made market research surveys and test groups at malls and shit. But there would be no point in doing that for products aimed at fans and not the mass market
>>11603614Come on anon, no one paid for a study in regards to these crowd funded tron figs
>>11605007real glad this piece of shit didn't fund
>>11605780No wonder toy companies are going broke if they're asking Reddit for advice.
