why doesn't lego do a Bionicle reboot? It's guaranteed flop proof because of basedlennials

I once saw a video on youtube that explained that the side stud on piece 3386 was actually slightly misaligned and would put stress on anything using both it and a similar height side stud on a different piece. Now I can't find that video. Is it true? Did Lego fix it?
>>
>>11604794
>>11604829
Last reboot failed because they forgot the two things Bionicle needs to start off successfully:
- collectible masks
- minor characters need individuality and lore too, make the world not just about the heroes
>>
>>11604941
didn't lego also sandbag the 2015 reboot at almost every opportunity?
iirc the (actual) boomers at lego dislike bionicle because it isn't 'real' lego or some shit, despite the initial run pulling in big numbers during its heyday
>>
>>11604940
I have seen said video. I can’t find it either but Lego is great about scrubbing criticism.
Baseplate problem status?
Still not fixed?
Gotcha
>>
>>11604794
>It's guaranteed flop proof because of basedlennials
I don't think bionifags are of the same breed as ideas/star wars sois buying shit because they Recognize the Thing. Bionicle always was heavy on lore, story and atmosphere and I don't think current lego prone to resting on its laurels is capable of doing these aspects justice.

Lego's perceived reputation makes parents comfortable buying them. it's the same thing Nintendo had going for it.

but... here's the thing.... for many years now, Lego has been putting "18+" on tons of sets

so it stands to reason, that Lego could split the brand into "kids" and "adults", and begin to mine the untapped gold that truly "18+" sets could offer.

where's my cut of the zillion dollars? Lego employee reading this, just got free advice that's going to make them rich(er!)!

>>
>>11606924
I love how every “leak” has the same 4 percent Gaussian blur so the low quality lets you know it’s a super secret image and not something pre-approved by corporate.
Lego pretends we haven’t all had decent cameras on our phones for a while now.

I will forever love this theme for doing small affordable sets. If you want an end/nether portal you can just get it standalone like this instead of buying a whole fortress. Also the new fox mold is in the majority of new sets, including the $10 one. If it were Slop Wars they would have put it in the $300 set and then never put it anywhere else.

I was hoping they'd do the fox after the pig and creeper. Seems like a bit of a missed opportunity not to give it anything to hold in its mouth, or at least something to feed it. Legs are also a little goofy but it's expected at least the trade off is good articulation.

Right now the sets I'm interested in are the Blacktron Renegade and the expensive new snowspeeder with flames on it. Coincidentally both feature a smaller vehicle that connects to the larger one, something I'd like to see LEGO do more of. I only hesitate because the first ship is huge and expensive and the second ship has a lot of stickers and is also expensive.
>>
>>11607679
I really do want those galactic marines, but the mini-tank is just pathetic. Given the poor reviews and sales, I'm hoping they try to recoup the costs of new molds by releasing a battlepack with them in it or something.

you can always tell the difference been a "leak" and a leak because one includes an image that's just blurry enough to seem like it isn't taken straight from a corporate PR bible and is only ever alluded to in discussions about "handling leakers" in general at completely irrelevant times, while actual leaks are usually just text based listings and if any images/videos are actually posted they get swiftly C&D'd out of existence and are immediately met with a post on social media about how the company does not tolerate people exposing confidential information etc.

this isn't a lego thing btw you can apply this logic to any medium

the "leeeaks" (wink wink) have evolved slightly
there have been a couple recently, instead of being patronizingly blurry, they are far-away views of pieces on a desk

(I didn't save the original image for this one, I crop'd it. there was a full window above this with maybe a coffee cup on the desk or something I don't remember...)

they also look "professional" in obvious ways, but I appreciate that Lego recognizes the blurry pics are no longer valid

To those that have been complaining about Lego's version of Pokemon. Are you aware of a block brand named Keeppley? I've only just found out about them, so I was pleasantly surprised that they've got their own range of Pokemon figs as part of their block range. I imagine most of you here were wanting something like this from Lego. The existence of this is probably why Lego isn't doing something similar. It's because Keeppley beat them to it.

I'm super curious if Lego over-reached on the $400 asking price. it's the type of thing where -everybody- will see it on the shelf, and smile, and that will be good enough. they'll look at the $400 price tag and agree it looks "wow!" but dang that's too much. $400 and they can't even throw in Pulaski and Yar? Guinan was never in the opening credits. Is Lego really going to make more sets to include them?

my fear is that if it shelf-warms, and the public rejects it, it will give Lego the idea that "the public" doesn't want Star Trek Lego sets at all, and that will be the end of it. (except Picard and Guinan keychains in a few years)

Good content
You should use green plates around the front and vary the height by 1-2 layers to make the ground uneven. Then add grass pieces, a footpath, trees, etc. It would be good to have the castle on a higher elevation than the surroundings.
This site has some good examples, it's still up but using the archived version because of brickshelf images.

I agree. the "set" should have been
minifigs, bridge set for them to sit in, and a (smaller) Enterprise ship to display above/behind the bridge area.

that would have made a much nicer "display piece" rather than OMG huge $400 ship.

I wonder if Lego tried to minifig-scale the bridge, and couldn't do it (!?) due to the specific curved railing part.

What was Lego thinking with the Tie Fighter GWP? Basically anyone who didn't buy it during the first week now has an incomplete set, because they added a part of the set as a GWP DLC. This set costs 1000 dollars and you sell me an incomplete set because I didn't buy it during first week....
>>
>>11608471
i finished putting this together and the only piece that was missing was a wedge 4 x 2 triple right. such an odd piece to be missing considering all the tiny, easily misplaced pieces i needed were there. it almost feels like a "fuck you" from the previous owner.

if you think that's bad, they did the same thing with their shitty, overpriced aquarium. the water filter is a gwp. there's even a clownfish inside it as a reference to that disney pixar movie the millennials they're targeting would have grown up with. lego is so greedy it's actually kind of funny.

Same. I remember when the original UCS star wars sets started coming out in 2000. Back then they were never minifig scale, and they didn't really have interiors, except maybe a cockpit if it was a fighter model. So since there was no focus on interiors or minifig scale, it made sense that they didn't come with minifigs. Even so, it was never really something I was into, a build that was purely the exterior of a ship that you couldn't "do" anything with. Even to this day, I never bother with any of these big UCS-tier sets unless they have nice interiors.

If a section of the dish exterior could pop off and you'd see an accurate depiction of the bridge inside, that would've been a game changer.
>>
>>11609558
The deathstar GWP kinda goes two ways, neither of which is good.
On one hand, it's literally day-one limited-release DLC meant to go within the larger set, and so anyone who doesn't preorder doesn't get the "full experience"
On the other hand, the GWP tie fighter is an absolute JOKE and looks worse than a 4+ set. It looks like something you'd get in a mcdonalds happy meal. And you can't even just chalk it up to a size issue, since people have made MOCs of tie fighers that also fit inside the deathstar hangar and still look decent.

So the fact that it absolutely sucks makes it not-so-bad because who cares anyway, but it sets a terrible precedent.

the simple answer is:
Lego is Evil*
*Evil = learning how to maximize profits by consumer manipulation

the tactic will eventually work on you.
(FOMO Fear Of Missing Out)
by doing this consistently, you will be trained to jump on that one set you can't live without. not this time. this time you'll be ready. damn them, but you can't miss out on this one, you missed out last time.

in the present, there exist channels to reclaim these lost sets. you know, that 2nd-hand website that... whoops! Lego owns that site? well, you can figure out that site, and still get the set, for a massive price. it might be a real person trying to get a "coupon" discount off the $1000 set they just bought (Lego wins because they still bought the $1000 set to get it) or perhaps Lego is money-laundering excess inventory of their own set through shadow names (in which case they get to sell you a small set for a massive price, indirectly-directly themselves)

win-win-win for Evil* Lego.
(enjoy the blog post from a frustrated consumer)

at this point, Lego has (probably?) already done a lot of work. I don't think they are the type of company to pull an "Ugly Sonic" humiliation maneuver, and lose that investment. the boxes have been printed, instruction books, the minifigs already printed. it's all ready to go.

the Sonic movie had much higher stakes (future franchise, merchandise, legacy, etc.)

I'm blown away that Nintendo is updating AC again. I can't say enough good things about the actual game. Animal Crossing has done several MASSIVE updates, introducing new features, options, concepts... all FREE (there was one DLC pay ad-on, but that was almost a whole separate game)

other games would have a simple furniture set and make you pay $2 for it. as a matter of fact, Animal Crossing is the exact type of game that should be doing that. nope! All FREE! thanks for buying that game 5 years ago! spend that saved $$$ on some Legos or something.

probably the name "My Chemical Romance" is not kid-friendly enough? and sure, they're a good band, but do you really think they should get a set before [many other, way more popular, bands]?

we all cringed at BTS but at least they had their hot moment to ride on

almost all of the sets that got 10,000 votes were ridiculous giant sets. even non-property things like space rockets were massive, and still got the votes. Lego got the idea that maybe people really did want huge sets? guess what? now we got $400 sets!

Lego is about done milking all the 80's nostalgia
they need to move on to bands next

(pic related, stealth Artist-Formerly-Know-As-Prince minifig?)

here's some "kindergarten math" for fun:
Google says MCR reunion tour total attendance was 365,000 throughout all the cities they played.
extreme conservative estimate 10% buy a Lego set as a souvenir, at the concert. that's minimum 36,500 sales. if Lego made a set and only sold it to them, to sell at the concert, and charges MCR say... $40 per set (which they sell for $80?) that's nearly 1.5 million buck-a-roos for Lego. and that's JUST sales at the concert tour, using "kindergarten math"

remember that one time Lego embraced the old "if you're making a spaceship, it needs more guns" rule

I'm not super deep into this hobby. Is there a website where I can buy certain instruction manuals from official sets? They don't seem to show up on eBay often
>>
>>11611386
is there a particular reason you want to buy actual copies? you can find them all on places like rebrickable as pdf's
>>
>>11611373

Bricklink has listings for just instructions
>>
>>11611386
You can get the instruction for any set from the official website and print it out. If you insist on it being the actual thing then bricklink has them all, usually no more than a couple of bucks.

Fun little thing, today I got a Bricklink order, and as I sorted everything out, I noticed that 2 red 2x3 plates felt a and looked a bit different to touch.
One was more sharper and darker on the edges rather than the glowy-er edges of the other.

I checks and inside there is no part number, only "Pat. pend."
Little googling told me this is an old cellulose acetate plastic brick from the time before LEGO switched to ABS.

This little red 2x3 plate is from before 1963. Kinda blew my mind. How many build it could've been part of and its still clicking perfectly with pieces of today, and now its going into my MOC.

They are really going crazy with Venomized characters. I mean we got buildable Venomized Groot, and Venomized Doc Ock and Green Goblin. Now we have Venomized Captain America, Wolverine, and Topher Grace.
>>
>>11612059
>Topher Grace
One of the worst castings ever. Eric from that 70s show as Venom… what the fuck were they smoking? Probably could have done a decent Peter Parker but Eddie Brock he was not.
