>See this at a local game shop >Never messed with gunpla before >Really liked Eureka Seven anime >Decide to buy >$20 >Get home >Start building >No English directions >Whatever.jpeg >Follow images and all the pieces are labeled so still easy enough >Have to apply fucking stickers for detail/color >Takes fucking forever >Can't get them perfectly aligned because some are so small and intricate >3 hours in >Not even halfway Holy fucking shit. I refuse to believe a child could build these, or maybe not an American child. I'm 33 years old and I'm over here fucking struggling. There were some pieces I couldn't get to fucking click in place, and I was also afraid I'd break them if I forced it. And the sticker placement. Oh my fucking god. The stickers. Fuck that shit. I'm still going to finish it because I am having fun honestly, but this is like "Lego for god-tier autism level" Gunpla is neat, but I really don't believe everyone has the patience for it. It'll feel good to see it fully built and know that I built it from one piece at a time. I just know some of the stickers aren't fully aligned but I'm not sure how noticable that actually will be from a distant or on display.
>>11622178>. I refuse to believe a child could build these, or maybe not an American childI mean I started my first master grade model kit by myself at like 12 years old back in 2003. You got this anon, just chill.
>>11622178>>Really liked Eureka Seven animeOP you should watch the AO and all the new anime movies they're really good and will get your mind off this frustrating plamo just trust me :^)
>>11622188You can't fool me; I'm familiar with your game. AO was garbage and not soulful at all. I'm going to live in 2007 forever and you can't stop me.
>>11622178>Holy fucking shit. I refuse to believe a child could build these, or maybe not an American childI built Zoids kits and simple gunpla kits a kid. It wasn't that hard. Just follow the instructions carefully and take your time with stickers. I usually left the stickers for the end. Tweezers are good for placing stickers. Patience really is the key for model kits.>$20That's a steal. And I had no idea they made a kit of it.
>>11622178One of the biggest buyers of them are apparently filipinos so yes
>>11622178This is why I hate plamos. It's all that time building a thing that may not be worth it. Some are worth it, and i have a sprue cutter, but I would pay more for a factory pre-built action figure instead
>>11622250I see the appeal of both sides. I'm like you though, I'd rather just pay more for a detailed figurine over building it myself, but I also think a lot of people enjoy building it. It's a hobby like anything else. It's relaxing for some people. It's no different than people who collect Legos and enjoy building them. You clearly need to have patience and free time to indulge in a hobby like this imo. You can't do this if you aren't willing to work on it a bit at a time or for long periods of time
>>11622178>but I would pay more for a factory pre-built action figure insteadI bought some of the Eureka Seven Robot Damashii a few months ago and love them. They made Ray and Charles' mecha of all things which was weird but they were the best side characters on the show.
>>11622256it's just a figure you retarded autist
>>11622319It’s just one of this board’s cow, hide and ignore.
>>11622319Please just ignore and report shitposter
I actually prefer model kit than pre-assembled figure. I don't like metal pins and screws, because it will rust.
>>11622336Also, it's easier to fix a loose joint on model kit than the pinned joint.
>>11622178I agreed applying stickers are annoying and sometimes easily to peel off. My recommendation is to learn to paint.
>>11622178>I'm 33 years old and I'm over here fucking strugglingBit cringe to admit that
>>11622188
>>11622178I had this kit back around ‘08. Yeah, the stickers are a bitch and you’re better off learning to paint. Also, don’t feel too bad on your progress. I got my first gunpla in 1994 at 8yrs old (1/144 scale Victory Gundam) and while I loved putting it together it looked atrocious because I had no proper sprite cutters then. The nubs on it were horrific. It took my next kit 3yrs later to learn to properly snip sprues and do the decals with tweezers. There’s a learning curve with the hobby but you’ll get the hang of it with more kits. Next time try the small HG1/144th scale G-Gundam and Gundam Wing kits for simpler construction and gaining experience. Welcome to the hobby, anon!
OP here. Unfortunately, I don't have good news on the progress. I "technically" finished it, but I snapped off a piece of plastic in one of the holes for one of the arms, and I couldn't get it out, so I sacrificed an arm. I wasn't aware that it's very difficult to pull apart pieces once they're connected, so if you're too rough the plastic pegs will snap off and get stuck in a peg hole. It's still like 90% built. The other issue is it looks/feels absolutely cheap as fuck and very loose. It's an official Bandai Namco gunpla kit, I know all the parts are connected and it's meant to be somewhat loose, but it's not even something I feel like displaying. It literally feels like it will fall apart at the slightest breeze. I imagine I could get sturdy/more detailed action figures at Target for the same money, and it wouldn't take me eleven hours to assemble only for them to look and feel like a $5 toy. I also WASTED ELEVEN HOURS working on it on and off throughout the night. I started at 7:30PM and finished it at around 5:30AM. This was my first gunpla kit, and as you can see, it was an...experience. It was still nice in a way to try it. I also broke the mount/stand/board for it. See, it was suppose to be connected at the foot to a hoverboard, and that was connected to a stand/mount for display, but I ALSO fucked that up and it broke, so it's missing an arm, the mount/board is broken, stickers look tacky/misaligned, and all in all it looks very cheap. Luckily, I only blew $20 on it, so at least it was a cheaper kit and not a more expensive one. I also attribute the struggle to the fact that the instructions were completely in Japanese. I couldn't find an English translation/manual online, not sure if that's common or it just varies from kit to kit. I am just going to display the box on a shelf as I think the box itself looks decorative to a certain degree. It's also MUCH smaller than I was expecting it to be, like it's a very small figurine, maybe 3 inches at best. 1/2
>>11622412I did also buy an Optimus Prime gunpla kit, but this one is made by an English company, I guess? And I'm assuming the instructions are in English, but I'm already super burned out on attempting to build another one. This one is 8M tall at least, so a decent height and it looks like it's already painted/stylized, so less work. I honestly think the boxes they come in look pretty cool/decorative, so for right now I'm keeping the plastic on it and just showing the box off next to my anime figurines. It was a night "wasted" but I suppose not really wasted. I got to experience something new, albeit the end result wasn't nearly what I was hoping for. I'm trying to look at it as a glass half full instead of empty type situation. The boxes themselves still look cool, and I think they can be conversation pieces in of themselves if someone likes the series.
>>11622378You do realize the average age of this board is probably 21-45 or so. I see more grown men in the toy hobby then children/teenagers. Grown men are collecting action figures marketed to children primarily. I see it all the time. They're buying Transformers, Power Rangers, Star Wars, G.I Joe, etc. You're on a /toy/ board, not sure why you think encountering men in their 30's is weird on here? A lot of adult men don't really seem to care if they're seen going into a store to buy a Power Ranger action figure, or Star Wars figure. I personally wouldn't let shit like that bother me. Oh sure, a lot of other adult men and women might think "Holy shit this guy collects toys at his age?" but I would also imagine there are plenty of women who don't give a shit or would think it's neat as well if they're into the hobby/series. I think it's a bit cringe for adult women to have 25 plushies and act like a 14 year old when they're 27, and yet it's fairly common.
>>11622397Yeah, thanks. It's nice to know other people's first builds were ugly as sin. I just bought this one because I liked the anime series. That shop has quite a few Gundam models, but I wasn't sure how to identify the skill level on them? I guess I'll have to look for 1/144 scale? I'm sure it says it on the box? A lot of the kits I saw looked very intricate/large, so I don't know if they sell any "novice" kits.
>>11622425Bandai has multiple 1/144 scales kits line, EG is the most beginner friendly, then HG which may require some painting or stikcers, and RG which is alot more complex to build with many small pieces. There is also 30mm series in 1/144 scale that are all original designs and the serie is also fairly beginner friendly.
>>11622412>doesn't understand numbers and letters>doesn't know how to use Google translate>can't build a $20 model kit>breaks model kitAnon, you an adult man could not accomplish a task that many 5 year olds are capable of. I hope you feel a sense of shame and work on yourself.
>>11622456Anon you don't have to be this harsh. Building model kit is not for everyone.
>>11622466Anon has a good point though. Bandai model kits are designed so that young children would be capable of easily assembling their kits. An adult being mentally deficient enough to be unable to build said model let alone breaking it is a reflection of their own capabilities as a human being.Using the excuse of "I don't understand the manual" is insufficient, Bandai model kit manuals use alphanumeric labels easily understood by anyone that can count to 9 and knows their abcs', and includes illustrations of the parts being used and their correct orientation.
OP and this thread is absolutely embarrassingNo wonder the west can't into model kits
>>11622564Go back to the east then.
>>11622635Why you exclude north and south?
>>11622650Those are russian territories.
>>11622651Russian don't build model kits?
>>11622652They own all the land.
>>11622178Wasn't expecting to see Eureka Seven on /toy/, OP has patrician taste
>>11622533>>11622456I still do not believe "many" children could build it, despite what you believe. If you look at the "average" child I don't think the "average" 8 year old could build it. An autistic or more focused 8 year old could, I suppose. An average American 8-10 year old could not build it. Keyword is average, as I stated several times. I can make excuses, but I personally found the directions somewhat misleading. I followed most of it, but some sections/pieces were not properly explained on what to do, and as for google translate, I did actually use that, and it didn't really help very much. I assure you that you're coming down on me very hard for someone who has never built one of these before. You might be shocked at how many adults would probably fuck it up if they built one for the first time.
Two tips-Find something to play in the background, an audiobook or video essay, something that will last a few hours. And get some safety pins to help you apply the stickers, your fingers are too fat for this.
>>11622880>you have to have autism to be able to do this> It's B1 + B2
>>11622250it's help me to not think about my life, at least for few hours
>>11622880It’s okay, OP. Being told you’re actually very competent only to be skill checked by a relatively easy thing is a pretty common occurrence. The fact is, you tried something new, realized it was tougher than you anticipated, and evaluated if you’re ever going to do it again.
>>11622564>wonder the west can't into model kitsBitch did you think model were just from Japan and only robots? Model trains, plands, cars and war shit...fucking moron
>>11623753Yeah, the most "complicated" part is when the stickers aren't indicated by numbers but by moonrunes, and even then, you only need to concentrate for 2 seconds and you can tell the difference.
I put together my first gunpla kit recently. I was wrapped in a blanket late at night while watching shitty horror movies. It was a pretty good time. The stickers were really fucking annoying though. I only put a few of them on.
>>11622221GameStop can have some good steals IN STORE, since they want to clearance the shit out.Unfortunately, they aren't even fully stocking all stores now so this is not going to happen expect for the junk they overstock - you can bet you will see some Superman movie merch, just like they had way too much Super Mario last year (and still do) and Lilo crap this year, although I was in one this week and that all seems to have shoved over to Ollie's and where ever clearance shit goes to die now.
>>11622422he's saying it's cringe to admit he's 33 years old and is struggling to build something that according to the box an 8 year old can build no problem. the parts are labeled in English. A,B,C,D etc. not あいうえお and 1,2,3,4 not 六,八,五、四 . So since these were originally for Japanese audience, he's admitting that a Japanese child also knows more English than him.
>>11622178OP why not show some pictures of your progress
>>11622880>but I personally found the directions somewhat misleadingNot sure if this was brought up or goes without saying, but you do need to realize that this model kit is an old release. As time passes, there comes along improvements and a more international mentality to Bandai's model kits. You did go for additional challenges by choosing an older model kit. Certain aspects have been simplified today, such as the left and right of certain parts (old way they were differently numbered, now usually same parts but doubled so R/L doesn't matter except for say the hands in case of an arm). I think the directions are clearer now, and utilization of stickers have decreased significantly unless you go for Kamen Riders or SD Gundam (big headed ones) kits. And of course there is English directions. Try another Bandai kit from the last 5 years or so and you might notice the differences. Basically the smaller the box the easier it is. But I think for Bandai kits the difficulty is about the same for any size only the time needed changes.I haven't built it yet so it might be another nightmare for you, but there is a newer kit of Nirvash by another company , the line is called MODEROID. I know for sure there are less stickers because they tend to have some parts pre-painted.
>>11622178I've heard that if you use a small pocket knife to stick the edge of a sticker on that it's supposed to be easier to align.
