Is there a more JUST toy company than these guys?
>Tales of the TMNT just got canned, leaving them an entire year without any new TMNT media and having to wait until the 2027 Mutant Mayhem sequel (That is if it isn't dumped onto a streaming service and if they're able to do toys).
>Only useable Power Rangers material is Mighty Morphin and it'll be a miracle if the Disney+ show does good given no more Sentai footage and merchandise.
>Monsterverse is nowhere near as successful as Mattel's Jurassic toys.
>>
>>11627815
All the mentioned licenses are probably dirt cheap compared to anything owned my Disney or WB, so that surely helps margins
>TMNT
They've already shown off figures based on the bootleg TMNT figures from the short coming out the end of this year. They've also got crossover after crossover constantly coming out along with the standard re-issues for collectors. The Godzilla X TMNT figures are on shelves now and they've just revealed the look at the Power Rangers X TMNT figs too.
>>
>>Monsterverse is nowhere near as successful as Mattel's Jurassic toys.

They still keep coming at a solid pace. Besides that they have Vintage TMNT to milk, two different Godzilla crossovers, and Power Rangers for another year at least. Possibly more depending on how Christmas goes.
>>
>>11627819
Playmates is sunk then. Those are all garbage figures.
>>
>>11627867
They're not a massive company with tons of bloat like Hasbro, Mattel or Jazwares. As long as they get retailers ordering consistently, they survive year to year. They haven't had any big breakthrough lines since the 2012 TMNT lines
>>
Playmates got in trouble for makine figures of not Monsterverse Rodan, Gorosaurus and Baragon.
>>
>>11627815
is this a sex toy company?
>>
>>11627890
I'm just saying they got in trouble. They only had the rights to do the Monsteverse stuff, and they did three monsters they never paid for the license of.
>>
>>11627893
Was no lawsuit. Toho just said 'Hey, you have to pay to use those ones', and Playmates said 'My bad' and then stopped doing kaiju outside of the monsterverse.
>>
>>11627881
The fact that playmates managed to not collapse the 5 years between Next Mutation and 2003 says alot. I would not be surprised if the main company is just like a holding company that buys factory time as needed and is able to pair down to nothing in the off season.
>>
>>11627937
>every toho kaiju, owned by toho, has it's own licensing fee
>playmates releases four figures of non-monsterverse kaiju
>playmates suddenly stops putting figures out of pre-monsterverse kaiju
>you, a cum gurgling fag, can't put two and two together
>>
>>11627943
At that time their big item was Star Trek toys.
>>
>>11627937
Let me dumb it down for you.
If you want to license out Godzilla from Toho. You pay for Godzilla. Sadly, you don't get access to characters, creatures, and weapons that his series is known for. If you want to use Godzilla and Mothra, you have to pay for each of them seperately. To add to this, different forms of established kaiju (Godzilla/Burning Godzilla, Rodan/Fire Rodan, Gigan/Modiefied Gigan), Toho registered their alternate forms as a different trademark.
Examples of this more well known:
>Marvel got the license from Toho to make an American Godzilla comic in 1976. Could only use Godzilla. Series ended when Toho increased the licensing fee of Godzilla. Could only use original monsters instead of his mainstays at the time
>Hanna Barbera licensed out Godzilla, could also only use original monsters for him to fight.
>Dark Horse Comics bought the license to do a Godzilla comic in the late 80's, early 90s, could only use original kaiju to fight him.
This is the reason we'll never, EVER see every monster from the Godzilla franchise in one piece of media unless Toho comissions it themselves.

>Let me pull some more solid facts out of my ass!
>Trust me, my dad works for Nintendo!
>>
>>11628025
....IDW and Atari confirmed each monster has their own price, you sperg. Here. Let me spoon feed you, little queer.

Each trademark icon = their own license.

Also the fact Legendary Productions created Phosphera to replace Mothra for Godzilla x Kong incase they couldn't hammer out the license deal with Toho.
But go ahead and cling to the fact you're wrong and are lashing out. Probably gonna get me banned again, right?

Another example is when IDW forgot to get the license to Ganimes. If they got the rights to every monster just by buying the rights to use Godzilla, they shouldn't have to worry right? Nope. EVERY Kaiju has their own price tag.
>>
I thought Playmates had the rights to classic Toho, but canned it for poor sales. Like when they made that huge 54 Godzilla.

This loss hurts the most. This one wasn't entirely their fault, but they still let it die
>>
>>11627943
It was probably World of Springfield that kept them afloat at the time.
At least there was a smaller gap between 2K3/2007 movie synergy retool and 2K12.
>>
>>11628074
Right. They seem to have a very small number of toylines and rely on one massive hit every several years to hold them over till the next thing. I feel like they thought Power Rangers would be the next cash cow they could rely on but that franchise is so fucking dead, I don't think the toys will sell well at all.
>>
>>11628074
>At least there was a smaller gap between 2K3/2007 movie synergy retool and 2K12.
The 2007 movie line ran for a couple of years, and then the had the 25th Anniversary reissues of the original figures in 2009. And I can't remember if it was just before or just after the 2012 line started, but there was also the Classic Collection 6" line as well. So at most, there were only two years without any Turtles on the shelves.
>>
>>11627815
>tales og tmnt cancelled
It was always meant to be 2 seasons with season 2 releasing in december, all mean to be between the sequels wait time, the problem is they delayed the sequel to 2027.

>>11627819
>they've just revealed the look at the Power Rangers X TMNT figs too.
Where? I searched and found nothing
>>
>>11627815
they sell a shit ton of TMNT and Godzilla toys, just from what I see coming into the store, they fucked the MMPR line with exclusives, the 5 inch rangers locked into a Walmart 5 pack are decent for the price, but all you can find is half of the team as huge ass morphing and next to no villains at retail, it should be easier, hopefully things pick up next year before all the shit ends up at Ollie's
>>
>>11627815
>Tales of the TMNT just got canned

Maybe for the next iteration they'll make the Turtles look badass again. That's *the* entire appeal of the franchise to small boys and always was dating back to 1987. I'll never understand the pussyfication of these boy IPs. It never, ever works. I swear the decision makers at these companies came off an assembly line and were never children themselves.

the only stuff widely available in the USA is the shitty semiauto morphs and 3 of the dinozords(they aren't moving), while every other country has the full spread available

Ironically the only successful show post-Viacom buyout was the one that except for things like April and Casey beeing teens (With Don simping for the former) and TCRI being evil, followed the basica formula exactly to a T.
>>
>>11628317

That was a two month Walmart exclusive thing. All five Zords are widely available now.
>>
>>11628392
That's Playmates being incompetent
>>
>>11628077
If nothing else they seems to have gotten retailers to do a better job of carrying the PR line than Hasbro managed to so far, at least as far as I've seen in person, in my non-american nation.
>>
>>11627943
>>11628074
They had Simpsons but also the late 90s was a big time for their Star Trek license with Voyager, Generations, First Contact and the classics lines.
They also had a few video game lines with Turok, Primal Rage, Earthworm Jim, and Tomb Raider. Then the smaller stuff like Ronin Warriors, and the larger amount of non licensed stuff they churned out.
>>
>>11628646
The Star Trek line was already dying by then because Playmates wanted to make four different figure scales and would then only produce certain characters in one scale. Were they retarded?
>>
>>11628445
The Power Rangers items aren't stocked super well in the US. Walmart has good stock and a couple exclusive items, but Target only has a few items and they don't seem to be selling very well at either store.
>>
>>11627888
Yes.
>>
>>11628653
No it wasn't, the Trek line was doing well until Trek interest started falling apart in the early 00s with Enterprise and Nemesis. Mid to late 90s was a huge period for Trek merch sales all around.

no one but collectors around here can give a damn about related figure scales.
>>
How sturdy is the new Megazord? I hate the added missles but otherwise it looks just like the 1993 toy just bigger.
>>
>>11628702
The Playmates Trek line died in 2000 and the majority of 1999-2000 releases were exclusive to Target
>>
>>11628706

Very, actually.
>>
>>11628706
Not sturdy at all, actually.

Speaking of the TMNT/Godzilla toys, we might know whats in Wave 2 now.

>Destroyah with Rocksteady

What a waste.
>>
>>11629506
Baragsteady would've worked better but I get wanting a more prominent monster.
Desthredder though, come on, that would've been perfect
>>
>>11629506
Forgive me as I'm a relative initiate to Godzilla (I think kaiju are awesome but due to inertia the only ones I've seen have been the OG film, Shin, 2014 and the OG Mothra) but what is the deal with Destoroyah being spelt that way? It seems like a trademarking thing, like his name is literally "Destroyer" but that's too generic to secure a trademark for so the Engrish spelling is the official name?
>>
>>11629506
Looks cool, at least. Reminds me of Triceratops. Who's Shredder if not Gigan? The blades make perfect sense...
>>
>>11628025
That has been a known fact for years, you silly, silly dope.
>>

Megalon is RIGHT there!
>>
>>11629628

>It seems like a trademarking thing, like his name is literally "Destroyer" but that's too generic to secure a trademark for so the Engrish spelling is the official name?

You hit the nail on the head.
>>
>>11629874
Bullseye
>>
>>11629628
It's how it's pronounced in Japanese. It's speculated that it's a trademark thing as well, but the "Destroyer" pronunciation comes from the 90's HK dubs that often would pronounce "Godzilla" as "Godziller" too
