What are some fuckups that toy companies have made, big or small? Can also be ones that you never see anyone else mention.

While cool would this really be as on par in quality, or more expensive overall? Maybe more something third parties would find worth in now that I think about it.
>>
>>11633289
Quality wouldn't be better but it would be marginally cheaper than buying the official models. Also you'd have to do a lot of clean up to smooth the printed pieces and your printer would have to be super precise for the small interlocking pieces.
>>
>>11633305

but 3D printing is complete shit

Consumers: Uh, hey, you guys forgot to paint these GI Joe Ultimates faces

Super7: They look fine, deal with it.
>>
>>11633289
Considering they do injection molding you be having a lot more labor intensity of sanding and smoothing everything out. If we are talking a grey scale you paint 100% yourself, I wager it'll be slightly cheaper in cost but all the extra work cancel out any sense of gaming the system.

I can speak to this because I had a friend actually print using these files, it works build wise, but the joint strength isn't there because it's made for KPS/PS rather than resin/3d Printed material. Mind you with glue and paint it would stick better, but it was still nowhere near Bandai level.

I'm waiting to see some Chinese guy make a 1/100 Rising Freedom using the data.

Not really a screw-up, more bad timing. BBI released this figure and then a couple of weeks the Columbine Massacre happened with the guys dressed identical.

Completely a coincidence until some Karens saw it and had a fit needing to being on the news about how outraged she was.

That's actually 21st Century Toys. They did a whole line of villains, but Armed Terrorist was definitely the most infamous. Walmart's lackadsisical return policy and the downturn in '08 is what eventually killed them, though.
>>
>>11633498
Any 1/100 is not happening as a result of those files because bootlegging the kit as a normal model kit from runners requires they 3dscan the actual runners because they need to know relatively where the injection molding points are. They can't make a profitable bootleg if they need to actually do work in figuring out how to make the mold from the cad files since they are sub-assemblies already in the CAD.

The transition to remove plastic from packaging to be replaced with what felt like knock-off packaging, then trying to excuse the renders not matching the figures, then the backpedaling back to plastic covers again was great.

Lego almost bankrupted itself in the late 90s because of a variety of factors. Basically they didn't keep track of anything.

The shoulders might look OK but when you move them they rub against the torso by the collar bone area which resulted in it cracking. That was the real problem. Visually it was fine as long as you didn't move the arms. That's not though the purpose of an ACTION figure.

At least, my credit card company got me a refund. I didn't even have to return the plastic junk but the only really usable thing was the back pack, which I gave to my next door neighbor's daughter to use on a Barbie type doll since why do I need a beige back pack for any of my other collectibles?

I mean, not painting things on the back of figures is lazy AND cheap as fuck, but things like this and the boot fuck ups and other similar shit they do with wrist bracers, cuffs, etc., the tiny fucking hands from re-use on the Wally West Kid Flash they finally pushed out - McFarlane was the king of fuck-ups with all the minor and not so minor shit they did just by being 'lazy' and CHEAP.

And a lot of it was hilarious!

it's also misunderstanding of the labor involved in making 3D prints. nearly ever 3D print topic for gunpla is someone asking "I broke/lost this part, can some 3D print me the part" as if someone has 3D modeled for free every model kit Bandai made.

Neca put Spyro's back paws for his front paws and front paws for his back paws during the initial launch of the figure, making it look awkward as shown in pic related. Though it's fixable, I've heard that it can be a pain in the ass.

Well here's a few that I didn't see mentioned.

Bandai did a line for the then-new Thundercats cartoon and gave them all ugly black pins in all of their joints. Don't mind the pins but casting them in black made them really stand out and not in a good way.

They also started a "classic" line at a weird 8-inch scale that fit with nothing. They stopped that two figures in to do a 6-inch line that they then also dropped after two figures. The fields lay fallow until Mattel decided to squeeze a few more bucks out if their MOTU Classics molds.and birthed Club Thundera followed by S7 Ultimates.

Big Bang Pow, Embarrassment Earth's toymaker subsidiary, teased a Venture Bros line in the middle of the long lull between S3 and S4P1. But it didn't release until after S4P2. But the handful they did were a mix of S1 and S3 looks. And they made Brock a con exclusive. And they all looked like muddy dogshit worse than Jazwares. So much wasted potential.

Speaking of Jazwares, oh boy did they fuck up the license to print money that was Adventure Time. Complete crap that was often broken before you could even open them. Supposedly Regular Show fared just as poorly and they even made an episode about it.

I think the absolutely non-existent distribution of Bandai's line based on the Ruby Spears Mega Man was pretty bad too. I religiously watched that cartoon every weekend but never saw them anywhere.

Playmates doing Star Trek 2009 at three scales simultaneously and not completing a single set of the crew in matching uniforms was a royal fuck up.

Then ten years later they fuck up their new Trek line in half a dozen ways that made sure it never even got a second wave.

>release military vehicle despite having a "no real military stuff EVER" policy because the sweet, sweet license money is much more important
>recolor it and claim "LOL, it's a civilian one!" despite the fact that there is no civilian version of it
>some German anti-war group is protesting in front of your stores
>take it off the shelves, say "We heard your complaints!" and earn some good boy brownie poi...
>...oh shit, some of them found their way into customer hands
>turns out the actual reason for the cancellation was a horrendously designed gear function that easily damages parts but admitting that this glaring flaw made it onto store shelves despite your claims that "every set goes through a rigorous testing phase" would expose that your current QC is even worse than just a bunch of spelling mistakes on stickers, discolored bricks and poor prints

Then not informing the customers who never had their orders fulfilled and just sitting on their money hoping they would forget about asking for a refund.
NECA sending out extra Baby Beetlejuices and having to beg and threaten customers to send them back.
NECA sending out extra (whole cases instead of one) Pale Man figures from their 12 days of Figures sale and having to cancel numerous people's orders.

1. Flame retardant added to plastic
2. China and. Vietnam and Indonesia no longer know or care about how to correctly add it to plastic so now you see toys yellow within a year of production

This his critical mass during covid shut downs. Lots of covid toys are badly yellowed
