Was this a good idea for a toy?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ERuhks3GNk
>>11635624It was a great idea, but the mech design itself wasn’t great. It’s exactly what you could have if you have a big Godzilla, you can say the city has a mech disguised as a big tacky skyscraper that transforms to fight him.
>>11635624It looked cheap even by 1980s standards.
>>11635624Clearly not, but it doesn't matter what they come up with Americans can't make anything and Need Asians to do all the work and make the toy while fat cats in suits talk retarded shit like they always do.
>>11635624No. A regular building alternate mode is boring and does nothing. If it was a base for other figures it would have made sense. The concept sucked.
>>11635664>No. A regular building alternate mode is boring and does nothing. If it was a base for other figures it would have made sense. The concept suckedYes I agree however Fortress Maximus blocks your path.
>>11635666None of his modes is a rectangular gray office building, he turns into a military base brimming with guns, or into a spaceship, both infinitely more cool than the stock exchange building or whatever.
>>11635666What part of Fortress Maximus is a regular building? He's also a base for other figures. Reading comprehension anon.
>>11635666That fortress maximus toy sucked hard too, I own the original G1reissue and is way more fun with better alt modes and functions.
>>11635670>That fortress maximus toy sucked hard too,Proving that a toy corporation actually tried this idea IRL.
>>11635673Again, it's not a boring regular building so Fortress Maximus is a terrible example. The problems of that figure have nothing to do with a concept that worked perfectly on the original 86 toy, they just messed up its execution because they just remolded an already bad Metroplex toy.
>>11635667>>11635666The transformation is pure shit. Move arms and legs one way, and call it a base/city. Move arms and legs the other way, and call it a spaceship. Attach head to make it a robot. There was zero effort made in how it transformed or what it would look like in alt modes. The only cool thing about it was the massive size. Kids hadn't gotten a 2-foot-tall robot since 1978's Shogun Warriors.
>>11635682The original fort max looked great as a base.
>>11635624I think it's Dekaranger/SPD where their base turns into a giant robot, that's cool because it's more than just a building and there's a big flashy sequence of people getting into safe zones and the base eventually standing up. So the idea is sound, it just needs a bit of spit shine and effort.
>>11635692A base with weapon is actually playable and a completely different concept from a regular boring building, as people already said in this thread.
>>11635624If this toyline got made in universe do you think they would've made the twin towers?
>>11635698YES.>twin towers?Like did Americans really give a shit?I remember people online and also presumably american laughing about "planes into towers" jokes all the time especially online.~5 years after 9/11 I pointed to my friend>Look this graph looks like the twin towersAnd he made plane noises and flew a pencil into them.We laughed. PS: Not from america.
>>11635624I dont get it
Imaginext made dreams happen by finally making a toy of it, but hopefully someone makes a prop replica version one day.
>>11635624Regular building, no. But if it was an industrial or war factory, i would buy that shit instantly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wha_6Cd3XLc
>>11635760Those are cool but Muteki Shogun/Shogun Megazord already did the Japanese castle motif but with individual ninja-inspired robot modes so it's better in my book.
>>11635624Big huge fortress with lasers and missiles with little spots for the regular figures to sit in and use like a home base kind of deal, absolutely. Boring ol' big rectangle skyscraper with nothing special going on, not at all. It's boring and bland. It needs to be something bigger and better than a normal regular thing. Or at least partially transform into one like a flying aircraft carrier kind of thing. >>11635769Weren't these guys very quickly replaced by the more normal animal themed zords though?
>>11635624>Christmas morning 1988>There is that fucking HUUUUUGE present in the corner that couldn't even fit under the tree!>Excited for weeks! What could it be?!?!>Finally Christmas comes, open the present..>...it's some boring ass Empire State Building robot...>that's it....a normal fucking skyscraper that sprouts arms and legs. It's not even from a show. >It COULD have been Cat's Lair!>It COULD have been Metroplex or Trypticon!>It COULD have been Snake Mountain!>It COULD have been Rolling Thunder!>It COULD have been the Ghostbusters Firehouse!>What the fuck do I even do with this thing?
>>11635826>Weren't these guys very quickly replaced by the more normal animal themed zords though? It depends, in the original sentai this is the first robot and appears before Kakure Daishogun, in Power Rangers it's the second after the Ninja Megazord.
>>11635842>>It COULD have been Metroplex or Trypticon! Those aren't all that big though. Fortress Maximus was the real humongous toys of G1.
I always wanted that to be real, less for the robot part and more to use the building as a background/environment piece to play with. There's not many regular building playsets out there, that's what I always wanted as a kid, just a normal building for Spider-Man to swing on or something.
>>11635624There are worse things than a building that a toy could transform into
>>11635939>Worse That's way more fun than a building.
>>11635688It's crazy how much better that looks than the TR version
>>11635664>sweats in 9/11.
>>11635642
>>11635939>worseHard disagree.
>>11635624
>>11635688The original kicked all kinds of ass.
>>11636003Nice display
>>11636003it came with a urinal bot too. It was like $50 per figure. Not a bad deal
>>11635688>>11635666How’d they fuck up so bad?
>>11635632>>11635642>>11635664I always wanted one...
>>11635826>Weren't these guys very quickly replaced by the more normal animal themed zords though?Actually, having rewatched Kakuranger recently, it takes a VERY long time for the Ninja Zords to get introduced. Like roughly the last fourth of the series. The Shogun Zords are the main mechs for the majority of the show.
>>11636003M-O patiently waiting for the existential crisis to kick in is a nice touch.
>>11635891Same, I would've had king kong climbing all over it fighting my army guys
>>11635624No, needs more guns!
>>11635939You dont understand, thats the joke that it hides as something ridiculous. You just need a cool robot mode that can stand onmits own.
>>11636769
>>11636784
>>11636785
>>11636769Sushi-bots actually look cool. >>11636784>>11636785That reminds me of the 1984 Select Convertors "Spies" that transformed into a cash register and pinball table.
>>11636790
>>11636800Don't forget Optimus Prime as a shoe.
>>11636796Thats what i mean, you need an engaging alt-mode. The sushi novelty has a action figure posable bot alt-mode.So it works. The converter series is kinda odd and i can see that it doesnt sold that well enough.
>>11636802Cool robot mode and display mode. It works just because of the shoe brand being trendy collectibles.

>>11636802or Optimus Prime as a Playstation
>>11635642Brownoid is really melting down over a fake toy from a movie lmao
>>11637181Its the usual asian who’s doing this
>>11635842>What the fuck do I even do with this thing?Insure it for twice it's value and then "accidentally" destroy it with thermite charges.
>>11637181>>11637185Wrong again stalker child
