I dont know why shitsney prioritizes garbage content like the acolyte over stuff people actually are excited for or want. TVC line for star wars is absolutely ruined now because most of the figures are andor shit or from the acolyte and are just a bunch of boring humans in brown jackets. Its no wonder star wars doesn't sell anymore cuz they made it so boring.

Grogu was a special exception, they purposefully withheld him from the merch push to give fans a WOW moment, which I think worked

there is a small amount of "advertisement" to be gained by merchandising something heavily. if parents see merch for [THING] it must be what the kids want to see, right?

people "remember" the Star Wars toy release frenzy and assume that if something new gets a similar treatment, it must be worthwhile.

that's why things like The Eternals got lots of merch, it's a form of advertising

it's not about spoilers it's avoiding what happen with things like Eternals where you have a massive bomb compounded with merc that never sells eating even more money from you.

They are getting more cautious hence why things like the 3rd Ant man film getting very little merc at launch because they sooner be late to the party than have billions in unsold merc.And consdiering how that went it showed them that, yes, better to offer nothing the the mindless consumers and bring it out later for them(look at baby Yoda/Grogu) than to flood your market with Rose Tico that to this day, nine years later, can be found in clearance sections.

Hasbro didn't have any confirmation of any of them being in No Way Home until they saw the movie in theaters themselves. They clearly scrambled to get the three Spider Men some and then did the villains. Usually Marvel lets Hasbro know the general plot or gives them preliminary design work to base figures off of, but they just didn't do that for NWH. Everything was kept secret as long as possible.
