Been here since 2013 and about once a year I like to see where everyone's displays are at, if they've changed, what's new or if they even still collect. I've sold off a lot over the years, my SAS and Storm Collectibles displays are long gone, same with my SHF Dragonball stuff. Whole toy lines I thought I needed, turns out you don't really need any of this stuff. Even if it's just a purchase or two a year, I don't think I could ever leave the hobby. My space is not my space without my little vanity of cool bullshit.
My display from a few years back
A few more years back, I hope some of you of /toy/ soldiers remember my extremely blue photos that plagued this fucking board
A more recent one I do like my storm display here
>>11649461Its a shame you decided to get rid of your old collection. I liked some of you SAS hokuto display pics. Not much has changed in my room, expanded my OP collection to another shelf and then got rid of my 70's robots shelf for more shonen. Just started getting jjk and csm figures last month ;)
>>11649469I remember the blue dragon ball pics. Wouldn't have guessed OP pic was the same person with how different it feels with brick built stuff.
I moved last month, so I'm still in the process of getting everything set up. I had never moved with my collection before. It was a fucking ordeal. Glad I saved the boxes for most of my stuff. Nothing got wrecked or lost, but... I am never doing that again.

>>11649717That's because they look good. I have yet to see see a nice looking lego or transformers display. They always look ugly. Some toys are just meant for playing with and don't look nice left out.

What's the best affordable display cabinet to get now in this post-Detolf world?
>>11651073Blaliden?
>>11651073Brottar from Amazon. $200(a $30 off coupon appears regularly), comes with lights, and is the size of two detolfs side by side.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DF7G3BPQ
Ive been lurking since 09/10, maybe even earlier. Back when the BSTs traded. Im the guy that had the hodge podge of random sized square shelves stacked on a TV display stand. Don't have pics anymore sadly can't find the files.Shits same, same but different, from the old white shelves. Scaled down after the flood. Still debating on making an office upstairs and maybe splitting most if not all the plastic stuff into the office.

My current setup. I moved a year ago and am still deciding what I want to do with my spare room. For the time being this is it.
First MOC arrived recently, just need a loose Weird Wolf, the GiTD Tomb of Tomb and the main 6 on card to complete the collection.
Here's my toy room. Nothing has changed in terms of layout. Just shelves.
>>11651589You need something else in here. It's just toys, what do you do just stand there and look at the shelf? At least >>11649638 has a table he plays with his toys on and a computer.
>>11651590You always say this. I dont use a computer. I have a mini laptop and a phone. Where do you propose putting a table anyway? In the middle between the cabinets? I already have a sideboard for storage and that's just become another display. What i really want is a nice rug.

>>11649461ngl I used to think mega toy displays looked gaudy and I'd never have one.but I had it wrong, yeah you can make displays tidy and build an aesthetic room, but primarily toys are just really enjoyable to look at and you want to see them all regardless of how much of a clusterfuck it is.I keep a bunch just splayed all over my desk at the moment.
>>11649638>clones on top, closest to the door, facing you Its the little things. They got your six.
>>11653938>I used to think mega toy displays looked gaudy and I'd never have one.I still think this but always end up having more shit on display than I think is aesthetically good. It's like a cycle where I tell myself I’m only collecting a few of X for a small tasteful display, then I get addicted and get too many, then I think it looks bad and takes up too much space and sell off what I no longer care about then start collecting something else and repeat. Hoping I can somehow strike a balance between aesthetic and my unstoppable addiction. To start with I do want nicer shelves at least
>>11653978yeah I was trying to say they aren't aesthetic, but more that aesthetics aren't really the reason collectors have heaps of toys. It's because each individual toy is so cool.I've definitely bought a bunch that I instantly regretted though. only buying online makes that more likely.
>>11653938I just run out of space
How do I decide what shelves to buy?Are there specific well regarded brands?
>>11654140Personally I think anything MDF/bamboo/plastic is a waste of money and you run a very real risk of the entire thing collapsing. You either get a nice hardwood cabinet second hand or a metal and glass cabinet. IKEA had the cheapest in my area (i think it was a Rudsta). Shop cabinets sometimes go for cheap when retail spaces close down which can be a great pickup depending on your space and size of your collection. Just be aware if you want to install lights that you either do it during construction of the cabinet or at least make sure theres somewhere to run wires out the back
>>11654151Do any glass cabinets come with lights built in that aren't super expensive? Also, are there any display cases made to be set on another desk? Or should I just buy a short one for that?
>>11654151>you run a very real risk of the entire thing collapsingI've never seen anyone in here complain about their cheap particleboard bookshelves collapsing, but more than a few instances where a glass shelf shattered because a figure fell over or the glass door spontaneously exploded. It's rare but it happens more than the cheap stuff catastrophically failing. The real issue is sagging, glass and hardwood will stay firm and flat but the cheap stuff droops under any weight eventually.
>>11653910I take down each shelf one by one, use compressed air or a wet rag if needed to clean off any dusty figures, and then use Pledge/Windex to clean each shelf. It's a slow, meticulous process that takes me like a week. I hate doing it, I actually haven't dusted my shit since I moved and it's getting really bad. I just don't have a good staging area to put the figs once I take them down at the moment, otherwise I would've done it by now. I'm just going to have to relent and find a staging area.
>>11654241Get some storage with glass doors?
>>11654164>>11654151if you're just putting your toys on display, mdf and plastic shelves has no problem holding a clusterfuck on it.It's only heavy s hit like books where you want to use hardwood.I think the problem you're actually having is just cheapshit furniture being poorly engineered and whobbly, which ikea furniture is just as bad as the shit you find on walmart.>>11654241a paint brush is faster and does a better job at dusting your figures.
>>11654272so if not ikea what should I be buying? (i'm >>11654140)
>>11654260I have some, shit still gets dusty lol, just not as fast. >>11654272>a paint brush is faster and does a better job at dusting your figuresNo doubt, but my figures never get dusty enough to really need that. Most of them usually are fine with most needing just a light blow of canned air. The figures themselves don't get too bad, it's just the shelf surface gets noticeable after a while.
>>11654275I don't think you should avoid ikea/walmart furniture if you're just using them to hold toys. Yeah, it's cheapshit, but it won't exactly break. You can modify it to make it more stable. Just add brackets or braces. Use glues. Add staples. Very simple add ons that will cost $10-20.And the alternative is expensive hardwood furniture. There's nothing you can build yourself that really compares to something you need a truck or have delivered to you.So if you can't afford good furniture, then just use ikea shit (which is little better than walmart). They sell "higher end" furniture, btw. They just use less cardboard-like backings and more metal. Thicker materials. Hard boards. Metal frames. All this shit is more durable than say a Billy, but it's bulkier and usually less customizable. Plus, mroe expensive.BTW, I have a Billy and it's lasted me for 2 decades. I added cross bracing on the back, because i didn't like that my books made the cardboard backing bulge out if i slide them back. So metal supports made the billy more rigid and survive a move + multiple room changes.
I just added another display area to my main setup by removing closed cabinet part.
>>11654272>>11654164Besides always looking gross and cheap it really depends on weight and time. MDF/chipboard shit eventually just delaminates and decomposes to sawdust and will droop and sag under load. The higher the humidity and larger the changes in temperature in your space the faster it breaks down. Its just a trash material and not that much cheaper than alternatives. The real killer is the fittings, most of the time they're plastic screw ins which get loose under tension but every little bump, reposition or knock also makes the thing more wobbly. Because the internal structure is breaking down you cant fix that without pumping expanding glue or wood filler into it or changing the location of the screw.Maybe its just where I live but second-hand hardwood and glass furniture is ludicrously cheap, sometimes people cant even give it away. >>11654162Usually comes at an unreasonable premium and for some reason chinks love putting high intensity LED strips in the worst possible location (like along the back corners) which defeats the entire purpose of lighting the cabinet. I just bought a pack of warm white LED barlights and installed them along the front of the cabinets. I still need to sort my cables out better. >>11654318 Most IKEA stuff is utter slop now but the metal and glass cabinets are pretty decent entry level stuff.
So what do we think of the ikea MILSBO?
>>11654649I got three of them + one RUDSTA and an old antique cabinet. They're pretty solid.
>>11654636what armpit do you live in?My bookshelves never delaminated after decades of use, and none of them have sagged since i never overburdened them. I have a Kallax that holds a good amount of heavy glossy paper comic trades and all the shelves are still square more than a decade later.Only my Ikea desks ever delaminated and only where my hands would sometimes rest or slide against. And yeah, like i said, I'd recommend using glues when constructing them, just to make them more sturdy. Not into anything with plastic though.
>>11654339What's your favourite car?
>>11654695Australia so its the opposite problem people here with dry heat and UV exposure breaking down the glue and plastic surface layers. For most other places its the absorption of moisture that warps and decomposes the chip. Not sure why'd you defend one of the worst construction materials to ever exist but I guess if you like wasting money or being able to smash your furniture with your bare hands its a good choice. My point is you can get hardwood furniture cheap second hand and restore it in a few hours for minimal cost or go metal and glass and have something that will last decades or centuries or you can buy chink shit and be constantly replacing it.
>>11654701I think a lot of people want to buy something that fulfill their needs.I could get second hand furniture easily too, but you're at the mercy of whatever people are offloading and most of the time, it isn't what most people want. I mean, I've always wanted a barrister bookcase, but i don't want to spend a thousand bucks for the one specific one i want, so when i looked on craiglists or facebook, the only ones i see are frilly ugly ones... and i spent more than a year looking, btw. Daily. And looking right now, there's even fewer people offloading shit. Literally zero barrister bookcases in my area. And when i "defend" Ikea shit, it's not because i think it's great, i just think you're overexaggerating how bad it is. It's low quality, but man, it really shouldn't be delaminating that easily unless it's waaay overexposed to moisture and the sun. Like, do you leave it outside?

Got the Camel Slug for my Metal Slug display, kinda long wait, I'm starting to think that the line is going to die after the SV Armor gets released... IF it gets released in the first place, as I'm having some doubts now. Lately we get 1 fig per year.Gundamit anon, my Camel is fine, miniguns are glued properly, but I was extra careful when rotating them, thanks for the warning.
>>11656539Such an amazing display. I could never afford it kek but I might pick up one of those POW characters.Love the posing of the soldiers on the left hand side. What's going on up the back of the right hand side?
>>11656602Thanks anon, glad you like it. On this side I'm planning to put the LV Armor if it gets released. I ran out of stands to give some more dynamic poses, Most of those figs have terrible ankles with basically zero range, so balancing is an issue.
>>11656616I want to do some vehicles for it. Gonna expand this display if everything works, got some cool ideas for it.Few days ago I got my first 3D printer, FDM but a fancy one. Still need SLA for smaller details as I want to do hybrid prints, hulls in plastics, details in resin. I will start printing some parts for my first vehicle once I get the smooth build plate and colors I want to try. Already learning some 3D printing basics by making some inserts for board games.I should print first parts for the turret in like a week or two.
Hey OPJust wanted to say glad you're still around. Your older diplays with the storm figures and vinyls were huge inspirations for me.
Just a heads-up, the Brottar's on sale now for $170 for the people who were interested.

smalljoes used to sell these three-step clear risers that fit snugly in a detolf, they don’t sell them anymore, apparently. what’s the current equivalent
>>11659636I had those. They were nice but I've switched over to the cube style acrylics. They come in different heights and, for me, are easier to use because of their size.
My Prime display. It’s a little cluttered.
>>11659636I just get the more or less cheapest ones on Amazon. Just look up acrylic risers and you'll find a ton for dirt cheap. Don't buy some special thing for displaying figures.
>>11659566If you think being a 42 year old man with a Disney princess display is a heterosexual endeavor then you're very very lost.
Ocean State Job Lot sells these "Pastry cases." It's a steel rack with three 1*1*1- foot plexiglass blocks with doors. I added a second shelf in each block. It's just 1 square foot plexiglass, and I used UV-bonding glue. They fit 1/48 jet models and 1/35 armor really nicely.
>>11659846how much?Looks much better than those shitty clear plastic shoe boxes on Amazon, because they have a metal frame to support the plastic walls.
>>11659762Also throwing in my current (dangerous) vidya display.
Why do some threads stop bumping before the bumplimit?
>>11662378Since /toy/ is a slow board, some asshole was bumping ancient threads to crowd out newer threads to troll. So the mods started auto-saging threads older than 2 weeks to combat his trolls. This had a side effect of killing slower threads, because despite being used, they were no longer bumping back to the front page. Since most people only look at the first 2 pages of any board, they forget that shit can exist on the 8 other pages and threads like Skeleton General stopped existing.
>>11662604This is so annoying on mutliple levels. The first being the lackluster attempt at stopping the troll from trolling the board. If the mods just you know, moderated the board, they wouldn't have to implement the auto sage rule. Secondly, it's like really guys? You can't look past the first two pages? I use 4chan XT so I have my threads auto bookmark if I reply in them, and then I get notified when I get replies and such. I haven't used vanilla 4chan in like a decade or more, but I know that it has some of those features. Can the users of this site just try not be dumb as dishwater?
>>11662608People hate jumping through hoops, dude. When captcha was first created, a lot of people stopped using 4chan (growth continued anyway, because the internet was still growing and migrations happened). A ton of people hate the new captcha and we've seen more than a few people say they hate it enough to stop posting here.I think most significantly, we've seen how people hate (or can't) updating their browsers, because earlier this year a secruity feature expired, which disallowed a lot of people from posting on anything using cloudflare. This coincides with 4chan having a pretty big decline in posts.I mean, go loook at /g/ and /v/ and how laughed at how the majority of people are still using Windows 10, despite shit like steam no longer supporting it.Every bump, no matter how tiny it is, can be a signficant inconvenience to people. So just not being on the front page is enough for people to not give a shit.personally, i don't like using add ons because they don't always work and there's some days i don't bother to even look at the catalog. I do use the thread watcher though (and made various modifications to my browsers)BTW, typing more than two sentences is enough to put people off from reading a post. If you didn't bother to spend the 25 seconds to read my entire post, can i call you dumb?
>>11662787>I mean, go loook at /g/ and /v/ and how laughed at how the majority of people are still using Windows 10, despite shit like steam no longer supporting it.First of all Steam does still support Windows 10, I'm literally using it on Win10 right now. Also, why are you outright making shit up? It is actually recommended on /g/ and /v/ to NOT use Windows 11 and use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC since it gets security updates until like 2032 or something like that. It pisses me off so much to see someone pretend to be tech literate and then post something that shows they clearly aren't.
>>11662793>autistic literalismnotice i said "supporting" and not "supports".Steam is dropping support in a few of hours and yeah, it'll still work, but for how long? No more updates after January 1st 2026.This is why /g/ and /v/ are laughing, because the vast majority of the market still uses Windows 10, despite everything going to slowly stop working. Lots of mocking of baby ducks.Yes, there's going to be work arounds. I'm using an oldass computer with outdated browsers, yet I'm still posting despite my shit no longer being supported, because i modified my shit. How many people do that though?Again, this is why some people don't browse /toy/ beyond the first two pages and people no longer post in threads that are in auto-saging.Or the new captcha.Minor inconveniences can cause people to stop using shit.
>>11662941>Steam is dropping support in a few of hoursYou disingenuous little faggot. They're dropping support for 32-bit Windows 10 because literally no one in the year of two thousand and twenty five, soon to be two thousand and twenty six, is using less than 4GB of RAM, even with the outrageous prices of DDR5 right now. Support for 64-bit isn't getting dropped. Goddamn, arguing like a disingenuous little cunt is worse than being outright ignorant. >I'm using an oldass computer with outdated browsers, yet I'm still posting despite my shit no longer being supported, because i modified my shit.I know, you are using a PC from 2011 and I can't imagine how you are functioning right now. Stop being poor and upgrade your machine you pleb.
>>11662978>more autistic literalism>implication everyone else upgrades despite already knowing how bad people are at any sort of changeoofAgain, people don't even like browsing past page 2, and you think people are upgrading? LOL. And I've bought like 6 computers (including laptops here) since i bought this one.I just like using this specific computer because all my shit is on it and i don't like changing shit if i don't have to. I'll modify the shit out of my browsers before i update them. It's like having a favorite chair, except super personalized. Comfy as fuck. This computer will be used until its broken, which may be decades from now, because i have even older computers that i still use to play oldass games like Starcraft and Myth (and believe it nor not, can still visit internet sites that haven't upgraded since they were bookmarked).
>>11663089Subby what you described is not what is happening. Windows 10 isn't being dropped by Steam. 32-Bit operating systems in general are. That includes Win 11 if there even is a 32-Bit version. Literally less than 1% of the entire computing population uses a 32-Bit OS. I won't lie, I feel kind of special taking to someone in that less than 1%. Good for you I guess. Seriously though, don't bullshit about something you clearly aren't well versed in. And then doubling down like a retard and calling my correction semantics is pure faggotry. You were wrong. Get the fuck over it. Holy shit I'm not even arguing about the rest of your post, I'm merely correcting your blatantly incorrect statement. You can be wrong dude, it's ok to admit it. I don't know why you are so fucking incapable of just admitting you were mistaken.
>>11663142It's Subjectanon. He is a delusional narcissistic megalomaniac.
>>11663142>yes, what you said is true, but because its happening to other shit means it's not true!autistic retardation. the worst kind of autismBut whatever, you're just nitpicking at a tiny part of my post just to argue. who knew you'd get angry over people not wanting to browse past the first few pages of a message board that you're willing to latch onto anything else just to prove me wrong
>>11663366What kind of dumbfuck argument even is this? You claimed Windows 10 is no longer being supported by Steam starting today. When in actuality it's just 32-bit operating systems, all 32-bit operating systems. Of which you and maybe ten other people on the entire planet still use. Windows 10 64-bit is still supported by Steam as of right now. You're clearly ignorant on these things so stop spreading misinformation about things you actually don't know what you're talking about. Backpedaling little pussy.
>>11663376>you wrote 300 words in 6 paragraphs about people not bothering to change their ways even by making 2 extra clicks, but because you didn't carefully annotate and expand on a 10 worded example, you're a dumbshit!seriously, you're a drooling autist.

Just got my lights in earlier. Still a WIP but I'm happy with how it all ended up looking. I have Porunga and debating if I should take off his back fin and put him in somewhere. I'll probably add SHF Yami Yugi and Dark Magician to that card shelf too.
>>11666079Wicked. Are you gonna do more terrain?
>>11666236I haven't made any in a long time. But seeing how nice they look with good lighting makes me want to make some more, specifically some One Piece inspired ones in addition to more of the type in the pic.
Here's my DB collection! Planning on replacing all the stuff on the back with the original manga run.
>>11666819Good start for a display. You should get some risers and maybe some lights in there.
>>11659221I love this a lot.
Not sure if this is the thread to ask in, but since it's about displays this is the closest I could find without just making a new one. What's the best bang for you buck stands you can get? I need to get a pretty large amount of them, and while tamashii stages are good, they're kinda pricey when you looking to get 50-100 stands. Are there any comparable stands that are cheaper?
New thread maybe?
