What are the domestic figures you've encountered with the worst and best torso articulation? Do you really value that capability or do you mostly find you don't use it in posing?

I noticed this crazy disparity in size between the chest and the midsection of Spawn and it made me think of other cases where either the torso articulation is botched, looks bizarre or is good/better than expected.

Both McFarlane and Marvel Legends are bottom of the barrel trash toys.

bro i'll buy you a figuarts chainsaw man. just please stop buying domestics

As we all know, some characters are only available as domestics. Like...Spawn

Any action figures with ball-in-socket joints at the torso (plus at the waist preferably) can have great range if only the makers put more thought in the positioning, angle and shape of the ball peg, and the open space within the torso. Amazing Yamaguchi have great ranges for the torso and there are no extra hinges or gimmicks there, two ball sockets at the diaphragm and waist. Most toy designers don't put in the small extra effort.

Todd’s figures suck but this design is spawn to a lot of people

Better yet ct toys so we’re not paying an extra 65$ for licensing & Japanese designer fees

I personally don't like any visible torso articulation. It makes a figure look too visually chopped-up. I don't give a shit about posability as I do the overall aesthetics of the design, and too much articulation makes a figure look too chopped-up.

But cry-baby collectors will sacrifice sculpt quality for maximum articulation, so I know my views are in the minority.

I wish she had a less grimacing face.

I can point you to the statue section on >>/a/ if you like.

Her face is the only bad part of that figure.

I never said anything about statues. I used her as an example because she's a prime example of well-concealed articulation for a visually-clean figure. Her torso joint is under her top. Her shoulder joints are concealed by those shoulder guarrds. Her elbow joints blend in with the long gloves. Her knee joints are conealed by the tops of her boots. Her anke joints blend in with the lower boot design. The only really-visible joints are the hip joints. She's a prime example of blending in joints instead of recklessly doing them at the expense of the aesthetic sculpt quality.

McFarlane knows the language I'm speaking. This one pictured is Spawn the Black Heart, with 19 well-blended articulation points.

Do you really want Mafex to make it? Think carefully after observing this picture.

Some of these stactions you can barely see the points of articulation, its a bit crazy
