>inb4 see you tomorrow Looking over the past year at the toys I’ve picked up and making my top 10 list, everything on it is objectively great engineering, articulation, paint, etc. But as I sit here looking at these figures, I feel nothing. Even picking them up and moving them around has about as much entertainment value as a fidget spinner after 30 seconds.I think it’s time for me to pack it in and sell everything, including my childhood toys. This isn’t a financial decision it’s a mental health one. Toys aren’t even an escape anymore they’re just another anxiety factor nowadays because you have to constantly be plugged in just to have a chance to give these corporations your money.I don’t know what I’m going to do to pass the time. I’ll probably start working out daily again and getting back in shape. But I’d just like to thank all of you except Jarret. Suck my dick you fucking faggot. I hope the rest of you have a very Merry Christmas. Goodbye.
>>11656611I was in the same boat as you anon, so I switched hobbies, spent my money on Warhammer for a few years. Now that is winding down and I'm turning to Magic:The Gathering.I still buy a figure or two each year and I fully intend to buy the occasional Warhammer kit but every now and then I need to change my main hobby completely. So you don't have to be done completely anon, just try something new for a while.
>>11656611>Suck my dick you fucking faggot.Wouldn't wanting another man to suck your dick would make you a faggot?Considering your hysteric need for validation from a mongolian basket weaving board I would say you are indeed a fag.
>>11656611see you tomorrow
>>11656611That's why it pays to be a sentimental collector. Collect the stuff that invokes memory and feelings. You'll be happpier that way.
>>11656611>Toys aren’t even an escape anymore they’re just another anxiety factor nowadays because you have to constantly be plugged in just to have a chance to give these corporations your money. The GI Joe Ghost Viper had that effect on me. The shit distribution with some stores having a fucking ton of them while other stores never got it in at all was bullshit. It became a real source of frustration for two months. Then I abandoned my search and abandoned checking Walmart's site every day while hoping for a retail-price return and not a scalper price. I remembered my preference for the vintage, and resumed focusing on that. And I am back to being a happy-camper collector. Somehow there's less bullshit in finding 40-year-old toys than there is new stuff like GV. Don't get discouraged by empty "consumerist" collecting. Find the stuff that actually means somethinng to you.
>>11656638>the stuff that actually means somethinng to you.-AAAACK
>>11656650At least if you do get it, you'll appreciate it enough to not treat it like throw-away trash like that urge you feel when coming down from consumerist collecting.
>>11656611Holy shit dude, you sound like a cry baby. If you're really having "anxiety" over not being able to get that next figure then toy collecting was never the problem, it's a symptom. I'm not going to sit here and tell you not to sell off all your old childhood toys, but I will say that if you do that don't come back crying how hard it is to find all that old stuff two months later. No one cares you're "getting out" now and no one will care that you're getting "back in". Also, you can work out AND collect toys. The two aren't mutually exclusive hobbies. >>11656638Are you still on about one shitty repaint being hard to find?Have you only been collecting toys for six months or something? These distribution problems aren't new and they're not specific to this one figure. But despite the dozens and dozens of other figures that came out in the Classified line over the past few years, this ONE toy is the one to cause you to have existential crisis and rethink your entire behavior? Are you really that fragile that not getting one single figure has that much of an effect on you? Collect what you like, that's fine and great advice. But if you can't get something, oh well, no big deal, something else really cool will be dropping right around the corner. Put your budget and energy towards that. Or go vintage, that's fine too, a lot of older collectors are moving on or dying out, so that stuff people held onto thinking they'd make it rich are dropping in price real fast. Hey, maybe you and OP can get in touch and you can buy all his old stuff!
>>11656611Sounds like you're burnt out with some of the more negative aspects of the hobby rather than toys themselves. I've definitely been there. The ever rising prices, the QC issues, the artificial scarcity, the FOMO, etc. can definitely grow tiresome. Before you take the nuclear option and sell everything, I'd suggest you put it all away for a while instead as you're taking a break and spending more time on other hobbies. It's a good way of seeing what you miss and what you don't.
>>11656611See you space cowboy...
>>11656713Just fucking fuck off. You shit on every topic you enter.
>>11656611>I'm in a sort of funk and the toys I got this year didn't fill my micropenis with the warm and fuzzies so I'm going to sell everything and quit collecting.Kind of a knee jerk reaction to not feeling overwhelmingly happy about your figures anon. I mean you do you, but I know in the long run you'll regret it. Still, not sure why everyone on this board insists on being such a drama queen about collecting fucking toys. I can't imagine how insufferable you babies would be if you had real problems.
>>11656767Wow, sensitive ain't ya. This is literally the only topic I've shit on because it's a shitty topic to begin with. If you want to quit collecting, go right ahead, but there's no reason to make an over dramatic thread about it fishing for sympathy. >>11656804It always boggled my mind how people could make such a big stink about collecting and how "hard" it is to get certain figures. Meanwhile I don't follow any kind of social media or pay attention to any toy news places and I don't go running store to store every damn day, I just check like two websites, see stuff I like and just hit "buy". Literally no fuss, no drama, no "anxiety", the only difficult part I have with toy collecting is finding the time...and space...to play with the stuff I buy. People like to make up their own problems sometimes and I just never understood it.
>>11656880>People like to make up their own problems sometimes and I just never understood it.Yes. Yes they do. I have so many more actual problems in my life I can't even be that bothered by missing a figure I wanted. Yeah it sucks, but if I really wanted it enough, I'd pay aftermarket prices. Meanwhile I have health concerns, family concerns, house concerns and a plethora of other bullshit I need to worry about. Toys are just fun for me. Sometimes I go for a few months without really caring that much or one of my other hobbies takes center stage, but I always come back to collecting figures. Even when I wasn't collecting them I would still admire them and be interested in them.
>>11656611the idea of being "part of he hobby" has always seemed stupid to me. to be "into" toys you don't have scour the news, hunt for deals, and stay in constant communication with the autists here. just live your fucking life anon. if something jumps out at you and you have spare cash, buy it,. if not do something else. that's what I do, i buy maybe a toy a year and usually don't feel like I'm missing out.
>>11656713TL;DR
A lot of you faggots sound like you just buy just to buy.>anxiety in buying shitWTF>11656713>Also, you can work out AND collect toys. The two aren't mutually exclusive hobbies.Either he's a retard or a troll. Possibly both. And you're probably right about that guy being some sort of newfag. He probably's that one anon who thinks GI Joe is the most success its ever been just because Hasbro keeps it on life support as a placeholder.
Jarrett?
>>11656611I hope you find happiness in whatever you do next.
>>11656611I hope you find unhappiness in whatever you do next.
Guarantee OP doesn't have a Power Girl. Nobody with a Power Girl feels miserable. Personally I own three Power Girls but I want more, maybe one for every room. You can have this picture of one of my Power Girls, it's a Christmas present from our home to yours.
>>11656611Who's Jarret? That doesn't sound like one of our characters. Is this pasta?
>>11657006lmao>>11656611I really hope you're not coming back and reading everyone's replies (I know you are lol) Im not here to give advice just using your OP blogpost as inspiration for a little blog posting of my own. I find it different, the separation of hobbies into these categories and then ""doing the hobby"" within that category. Maybe it's an ADHD way to see the world, but I never could define my hobbies so easily. The reason I'm lurking /toys/ is because Ive recently become interested in toy making, doing resin casting, wax sculpting, etc etcI collect too, but not one thing, just stuff that stands out as unique (like the fake bubble wrap poppers that has the moe anime voice lines, or the sword barrel game of Osama Bin Laden, or... etc etc)I think maybe people who get burned out on their hobbies need to introspect and try and find their soul and find out how to allow that spark of life to guide their actions instead of ?????? it's foreign to me, but maybe some feeling like a checklist?there is no meme, i love you
>>11657013>Guarantee OP doesn't have a Power Girl. Nobody with a Power Girl feels miserable.Fuck Marlane's Power Girl. DCIC is best Girl, even though it's less posable. Fuck the whole Marlane DC line too
>>11657020She's a little chunky and the shoulders are a bit broad. I'm really fond of Mattel's Power Girl, though she has her flaws, too.The Ed McGuinness Power Girl is really nice, too. Each has their own flaws that keep it from being a perfect figure, but that matches the character never feeling like she lives up to her potential so I find the little variations interesting. In some ways collecting Power Girls is like collecting snippets of the history of toy engineering and aesthetics.
>>11656624>warhammer40k>magic the gathering>both utterly ruined and rotted by antiwhiteismWhy do you hate yourself enough to give these cunts money?
should have waited for the figma
>>11657020Mcpharlin*
>>11656611that's a good idea, I'm sure you'll get nostalgic eventually, but you don't have to be the guy collecting all this bullshit, I'm personally refining my hobbies because I've got lines I've kept up with, still sealed in the shipping box from three years ago, like I haven't even looked at it and it's been taking up space all this time, getting rid of everything is good if you're ready for it, but be fair to yourself and keep a handful of things out of the bunch so you don't rebuy everything to fill that void
>>11656611I hope you stay anon as I just started with toys this year and need your expertise. Everyone has bad days. I almost quit a hobby recently but I realized it was just one fucking asshole causing most of the problem.
>>11657038Stop talking to yourself, retard
>>11657051Idk why I'm catching stays but I imagine it's pstd from some board spammer so I forgive you, since I know that from other board.
