Figured I'd make a thread since no one else cared to, but for that one anon from the last thread that was having a meltdown because of the Goldar in the Target Exclusive multi-pack, someone found a single card release at a Target in Chicago. Anyway, talk about Power Ranger now. Or don't.

Upcoming releases:
No one knows or cares

Old thread >>Forgotten to time
>>
I'm glad to see Goldar released single carded in the US, it was stupid to gatekeep him behind a store exclusive 6-pack. I just find it odd how soon he's being released solo after the 6-pack claimed exclusivity. It seems he and Baboo are the next assortment of villains, and I wish it were Squatt instead with Goldar getting his single carded release later along with King Sphinx. Releasing Baboo without Squatt just feels wrong.

Here's the back of Baboo's packaging, showing he is the only new addition in the next assortment.
>>
>>11662938
That can't be right. Maybe it's a weird packaging thing where they only show one new figure on the back, so for the other two boxes it's Rita/Goldar/Putty/Squatt and Rita/Goldar/Putty/King Sphinx.
>>
>>11662952
Nah it tracks. First villain assortment was only Rita and Putty, now Goldar and Baboo, next would be Squatt and King Sphinx. The Rita/Putty assortment was 4 of each in spite of Rita being previously released in the Walmart endcap and Putty being an army builder, so I imagine Playmates will continue with even split cases of two.
>>
>>11662822
Anybody who thought he'd never be a single carded figure is a certified retard. Playmates always rereleases figures.
>>
>>11662961
Maybe so, but 3 months is a pretty short exclusivity window. The 6-packs touting Goldar as an exclusive are still on shelves, which is pretty awkward if there are single carded Goldars on the pegs above.
>>
>>11662958
>First villain assortment was only Rita and Putty, now Goldar and Baboo, next would be Squatt and King Sphinx.
That would be a horrible idea. Why would they split the villains up into three waves like that? I thought Season 1 was only going to be two waves before moving on to Season 2. What would the Ranger side of things be for the third wave?
>>
Is the line really dead in the water? I was really hoping for at least the Dragonzord. Titanus was probably never going to happen anyway.
>>
>>11662822
Ill wait for the retro style 7inch Bandai replicas playmates teased at SDCC. I picked up the S7 Bulk and Skull at ross for $15 each. I don't thinks there's anything else Im looking forward to PR wise. I doubt BanDai will ever get the license again to make a Legacy Tor, Serpentera and Shogun Zord.
>>
>>11662998
>Is the line really dead in the water?
No. Playmates is losing TMNT in exactly one year. Power Rangers just became their lifeline.
>>
>>11662992
>Why would they split the villains up into three waves like that?
Because they're dumb. The six figures shown at Toy Fair should have been a single wave. Being able to get a near complete set of the main season 1 villains in one fell swoop would have made them more desirable to people than slowly dripping them out like this.
>>
>>11662958
>>now Goldar and Baboo, next would be Squatt and King Sphinx
>Our biggest fear was that Squatt and Baboo wouldn't get released
>Now we have an even worse possibility: Baboo will be released, but Squatt could potentially not be
>>
>>11663020
>Our biggest fear was that Squatt and Baboo wouldn't get released
>Now we have an even worse possibility: Baboo will be released, but Squatt could potentially not be
This was the nightmare scenario I never considered a possibility.
>>

Hasbro has heat with Playmates because they helped fund the Ninja Kids project behind their back with plans to adapt it into toys. I doubt they retain the license for long.
>>
>>11663053

Good. These baby toys suck ass, even the LC was better.
>>
>>11663053
Was that Playmates specifically? I heard Hasbro themselves were backing Ninja Kidz, too (if not only them).
>>
>>11662822
I literally bough that six pack just for goldar a few months, what the hell
>>
>>11662961
Good thing they won't last long since they're a dead company now.
>>
So since Playmates' days are numbered due to losing the TMNT license, guesses on who's getting the license?
>>
>>11663053
There was no behind their back. The Ninja Kidz thing was publicized at 2025 Toy Fair. Hasbro has since made the deal for the Disney+ series, so they're trying to save face because some people are confusing this Ninja Kidz thing as the new Disney+ series.
>>
>>11662822
This line was announced, but no Dragonzord.
Every anone here kept screeching
>Nooooo we need to have a full line of the main cast first!!
>THEN we can have Dragonzord in the second wave!!!
>Who cares that Hasbro did the same fucking thing in the same order and also failed before that next wave could have Dragonzord in it!!!!

I never got why anons here were like this.
>>
>>11663114
Someone else would have to want it in order for Hasbro to try to revoke the license from Playmates, and depending on the way the contract was written they may not even be able to as long as Playmates continues to pay. I would expect Playmates to pivot hard to Power Rangers as their most viable money maker after losing TMNT. Mattel, Jakks, and Jazwares each have plenty of other properties keeping them in business, and Power Rangers would just be an afterthought to them. Playmates NEEDS Power Rangers right now, they will give it the most attention and turn the most profit for Hasbro, which is ultimately all Hasbro cares about, so I can't really see Hasbro trying to take the license from them.
>>
>>11663183
Looks like they need to go back to basics, find a struggling comic team and make a new toy based cartoon.
>>
>>11663185
>make a new toy based cartoon.
What century are you living in grandpa?
>>
So, are we ever gonna hear how well the line did or didn't do?
>>
I'm really surprised how well Rita has been selling in my area. I was worried Playmates was overpacking her and she would end up pegwarming and hurting future waves of villains from being released, but at my two local Targets she has been a consistent seller. They've each gone through multiple cases of the villain figures (I helped in clearing out 6 Putties and a Rita), and currently one of them has two Putties and a Rita, and the other only has a Putty. Rita out selling the Putty is crazy to me since she was the only villain on the Walmart endcap and sold on Walmart's website before the wide release. I figured with her head start and even case packing with a previously unreleased army builder, people would buy up all the Putties and Ritas would start to build up and warm pegs, but that hasn't happened, at least here. Who knew a cheap retail Rita would end up being a good selling action figure? Certainly not Bandai or Hasbro.
>>
>>11663470
We can definitely say we do not know what it didn't do as opposed to what it did when it was not doing it at all until it was done then we did but not until it wasn't. So it did but we cannot say what it wasn't doing.
>>
>>11663470
If they continue making toys it did well. If they stop it didn't. That's generally the best you ever get. A new villain assortment of Goldar and Baboo hitting stores now is a good sign. That suggests they sold through the first assortment's initial production run, so at the very least the villains are moving at or above expectations.

NY Toy Fair next month will be the big tell. Last year's Toy Fair was an early look with much of the line not slated for release until 2026. If the unreleased stuff they showed last year is absent that's a bad sign. If a Dragonzord and Titanus aren't shown that's a bad sign. If no new figures are shown that's a really bad sign. February 14th. There's also Nuremberg on January 27th which could provide some info. They debuted the line last year, but behind closed doors. Maybe this year they will be less secretive.

Jakks. Of the non-big two underdogs, Jakks is the most successful atm. They have the strongest relationship with Viacom via Sonic along with the most retail prescence second to playmates (nintendo, simpsons, sega, etc). With Dogman out of the picture and the turtles up for grabs they just seem like the best fit for the IP.

Jazwares is back to being a confused mess and they're barely handling FNAF and Fortnite as is, and Mcfarlane is short sighted and ADD about licenses. Everyone else either has a cash cow on hand or is focused on something else.

Yeah, a deco change generally retains a figure's exclusive status, but the deco of the US carded Goldar looks the same as the 6-pack, so not sure how that isn't blatant false advertising.

Power Rangers has many great series which people regard as better than MMPR. The MMPR circle jerk didn't start until 2010. For 15 years after it ended it pretty much didn't exist and all focus was put on the current series.
>>
>>11664056
>Im seeing these already hitting clearance
Where? In the northeast US Targets and Walmarts they sure aren't.
>>
>>11664541
The MMPR fanaticism began when it aired
>>
>>11664024
Not worth $100, if you're going to pay that you might as well get the SMP.
>>
>>11664590
>The MMPR fanaticism began when it aired
And by the third season that fanaticism had significantly declined, which is why they started changing the suits every year. Bandai didn't make a new MMPR toy after 95 until 2006, and that was just the Red MMPR in a line of collector Red Ranger figures, so MMPR got no special treatment. A couple years later they started doing the Super Legends chase figures and Retrofire Megazords, but that too included other seasons, so MMPR still wasn't being treated as the end all be all. It wasn't until 2010 when they did a full MMPR line that they started heavily leaning into MMPR nostalgia, and the only reason that even happened was because Disney didn't want to make new seasons anymore, but still had contractual obligations to Bandai, so they just threw on MMPR reruns with some half-assed graphics slapped onto them and called it a day.
>>
>>11664633
>Bandai didn't make a new MMPR toy after 95 until 2006
While that is true, it's worth pointing out they were selling MMPR toys in 2-packs with In Space figures and even had entire dedicated lines in Heroes and Playback, the latter coinciding with a reairing of the first three seasons in 1999. They may not have been making new merch, but they were still moving extra stock throughout the late 90s and the gap between the years wasn't as long as it could have been.
>>
>>11664733
Those In Space figures were just getting rid of the glut of unsold movie toys. I think Playback was similarly moving unsold stock, at least for the most part, as the selection was quite random. For instance no deluxe season 1 Zords, but the intermediate Megazord that always seemed to warm shelves even in MMPR's heyday. It was also planned for Playback to release toys through Turbo, so it wasn't just supposed to be MMPR felating. I don't know if the sales or ratings were bad, but the Playback airings ended prematurely after The Mutiny, so the Zeo and Turbo toys never saw release in the Playback line.

Heroes were just cheap re-releases for KB Toys, and it started as the sixth Rangers from MMPR through Turbo before cycling through the seasons all the way until Dino Thunder. After a year hiatus the line was rebranded as Super Legends for Mystic Force before ending for good.

So yes, some MMPR toys were sold between 95 and 2006, but not a single new MMPR toy was produced during that time, just unsold stock and re-releases, and this wasn't even a uniquely MMPR thing. Not only in the case of Heroes, but Bandai would randomly re-release toys from other seasons within their season lines. Sometimes they would even redeco toys from other seasons, so it wasn't always a case of clearing out old stock, but Bandai trying to maximize profits from their existing molds.

Wave 2 needs to go straight into Thunder Zords, White Tiger Zord and Tor.
Maybe Ninja Zords. but it should definitely be Zedd and his monsters. We have had enough Rita stuff already.

for the zords, sure, but there's still lots to cover between Season 1 and 2's shared cast
That said don't expect Tor or even White Tigerzord when there's no Dragonzord or Titanus yet. Tor is probably a real long shot since he's one of the least used carrier zords
>>
>>11665283
Except no one is going to make any money producing a figure for every monster of the week. People want rangers and zords. We got both in Wave 1 so Wave 2 needs to be more Rangers and Zords. That leaves White Ranger and the Thunder Zords.
>>
>>11665327
You're crazy if you think wave 2 should skip Dragonzord and Titanus and go straight to Thunderzords. Dragonzord is easily the most popular single Zord in the history of the show.
>>
>>11665012
>Not like there's much in the way of new main cast villains for season 2. Zedd, and Z putties is about it, the rest would be MOTW
There's still Finster unaccounted for, and Scorpina could be a season 2 figure since she was essentially a season 2 MOTW. I'd be super bummed if Playmates got this close to completing the season 1 villain crew and couldn't finish it off.
>>

Companies have long given up on that and are working entirely for the short term money of nostalgia.
Thing is, they have been selling the exact same shit to the exact same people through nostalgia for 20 years now and that's about to fall apart too. And the companies have no plan after that.

>they have been selling the exact same shit to the exact same people through nostalgia for 20 years now
This is the first fully fleshed out MMPR line intended for kids since Imaginext, and that was a preschool line without transforming Zords or roleplay items. The only other kid focused MMPR line since the original was the 2010 debacle which did everything wrong, and was before the series was even released on DVD, let alone able to be streamed anywhere. Bandai and Hasbro's MMPR stuff since then were adult focused products with higher price points, save for a few random anomalies like Hasbro's cheap Megazord. Playmates is implicitly NOT selling the same shit to the same people, and the collectors have done nothing but bitch and moan about the line not being made for them. But I think it was absolutely the right move by Playmates, because Power Rangers always thrived when it was making cheap toys for kids, and the series is more accessible than ever with an entirely library of episodes freely available on any device.
>>
>>11665717

I really want to know what it is that people who bitch about it being MMPR want. There's no new show and the last few series weren't that popular anyway.
Did they randomly expect them to make a kid's toyline based off some Disney season when the ratings by that era were rapidly dropping as well and they have almost no nostalgic impression? Like randomly getting a Mystic Force kids line in 2025?What series do they want to get a standalone line?

I don't think anyone at Playmates has a clue this thing exists. They seem like the same old collection of NBAs and boomers who only pick the top most well known names out of a wiki article and repeat the same th9ing every company before them has made.

Plus making a new figure that has never been tried before is risk taking. That's not something a company replying 100% on nostalgia bucks will ever attempt to do. We cannot even get a fucking Dragonzord out of Playmates or Hasbro.

TJ was well received but bland and part of him being liked was due to the cast change happening when they started getting to the GOID Car Ranger footage, which had some great fight scenes for TJ. Once he got demoted to Blue IS Ranger, he fell off in popularity.

Meanwhile Jack in SPD was such a complete fuck up that the case is often made that Skylar was the real protagonist as part of the anti affirmative action aspect of SPD

Also Ninja Storm Red was mystery meat racially but upstaged by Cam, who was Asian.
>>
Can someone explain to me the difference lore-wise behind Ecliptor's black and red forms?
>>
>>11666465
stop over thinking a toy commercial
>>
>>11666465
Ecliptor has four forms

>>Regular form, with one spikey shoulder pad and a cape

>>Rebuilt form, which has no cape and two spikey shoulder pads

>>Darkonda gesalt form

>>Red Ecliptor, which is basically Ecliptor with a temporary power boost

The original 90s Bandai figure was based off of his first form (which In Space made interchangable with the second form; in Megaranger, he gets destroyed early on and rebuilt)

The Hasbro Lightning Collection is based on said second form (no cape and matching spiked shoulder pads), so they could easily repaint the figure for his powered up Red form.

>>11667102
Nah they’d make megazords that don’t transform that would scale with the monsters
>>
>>11667108
No kids want the monsterverse monsters because they look like ass. The soft vinyl figures of the nip designs sell like hotcakes
>>
>>11667112
Not really, since even WalMart keeps restocking the Monsterverse line.
>>
>>11667112
I didn't specify universe you fucking retard kids see Godzilla the same and don't autismally pick favourites like boomers do which is why mmpr is the only series that gets rebooted due to boomer retardation not giving new things a chance
>>
>>11667109
See I’ve always said that one of the smartest things they ever did during the launch of Power Rangers was to have imported the larger 8 inch figures, then make monsters in that size who then can double as being nearly in scale with your Megazord. They only did this for the three season of MMPR.
>>
>>11667121
It seems like the most obvious thing a company could do.

Most modern MMPR toylines barely get a chance to cover the main MMPR cast, let alone attempt other seasons. 2010 didn't even have a Rita.
Yes, there's a lot of MMPR toys, but in terms of solely focused toylines after the 90s, there's really just been 2010, Super 7, and now Re-ignition. And Imaginext. All of those had(or have) notable missing entries from MMPR so no reason to start jumping ahead yet.
>>
Holy Shit I am so sick of mmpr

Close the thread then because that’s all we’re getting the next 2 years.
I know it’s become a meme at this point but I wish someone like Jada would get power rangers and just commit to a limited run of zordon era rangers and villains then expand from that if it’s successful. Do the rangers in box sets only and release the monsters and main megazord over a year for each season.

Holy Fucking Shit God no they take forever to do anything and would fuck it up way worse and cost $30 each

Looks very off to me, particularly the head. I guess it's better than the original Lord Zedd figures which were based on early concept art and very off-model, but I'll be sticking with my 2014 Zedd.

Even with such a blurry photo, I can tell that head sculpt is way too chad for Rocky. lol Adam looks a little off too. Kind of weird that the old Bandai flipheads seems more accurate in that regard.
Zedd looks... Strange. Like they were trying base it off the suit actor and made the head too big as a result. It's not great, but it's not entirely bad either. Zedd Putty with the gimmick intact is great, but they really should have had an assembled one there for comparison.

Nice to see it's coming along, but still no Dragonzord? Come on, Playmates. Get it together.

You people need to relax, this wasn't intended to be shown to the public, it was a photo Baboo's US actor took at Playmates headquarters and some new toys happen to be in the background. If season 2 is already in the pipeline it pretty much confirms Dragonzord will be in the Spring wave of toys. They're not gonna move on to Thunderzords without doing arguably the most popular Zord in the history of the show. I'm sure Toy Fair will announce it, and I'm sure they'll show the assembled Putty.
>>
>>11667611
Despite the fact that they have already passed on Dragonzord, after Hasbro also passed on Dragonzord, and the 2011 rerelease passed on Dragonzord.
>>
>>11667685
How have they already passed on Dragonzord? Because it wasn't in wave 1? Season 1 was always planned on being 2 waves, and it makes sense to save Dragonzord for wave 2 in that case. Bandai's 2010 line was an absolute clusterfuck during an unplanned transitionary period for the franchise between Disney and Saban. Hasbro's cheap Megazord wasn't a part of a larger line, it was just a random one-off product while they tried to figure out what to do with the property. Playmates will not skip Dragonzord if they're already planning season 2 shit.
>>

Season 2 is Thunderzords and White Tiger Zord.

Sure, they just happened to place the new Lord Zedd and White Ranger figures in the "People can take selfies here but please don't show said selfies to the public" section of their headquarters by complete accident.
>>
>>11667106
I never understood why no monster has ever been made to scale with Megazord. They are always scaled to the rangers. But who are the Zords supposed to fight? They never made a giant sized Goldar.

He literally says he's been waiting to post the pics. Playmates probably told him not to post anything until the figure is released. I wouldn't put it past Playmates for being too dumb to realize stuff is in the pics that isn't supposed to he seen, or maybe they just didn't expect Baboo to end up releasing before this stuff was officialy revealed at NYTF.

>>11667750
>Season 2 is Thunderzords and White Tiger Zord.
There is a second wave of season 1 stuff coming this Spring numbnuts. That's where Dragonzord would slot in.
>>
>>11667811
Kids don't really follow the plot. They make up their own worlds. Maybe some of you never did but basically a megazord or a white tigerzord doesn't need to be tied up in the Power Rangers universe. Kids make their own stories with various toys from multiple lines.
>>
>>11667811
Who cares what you understand boomer.
>>
>>11667811
This is why megazords need to scale with the monsters not the other way around.

I look forward to seeing you post this again in 2027 as the season 3 toys are being revealed.
>>
>>11667937
>Why have that display at all if the public wasnt allowed to see it?
It's probably their Toy Fair display, or a work in progress of it. They don't just show up and put out the toys without any forethought about the layout.

>>11668018
>He looks worse than Hasbro's Zedd. So why get this?
Because the Hasbro figure is a completely different scale. It you want a cheap Zedd which scales with the smaller scale Bandai/Playmates villains Hasbro didn't make, and you don't have one of Bandai's previous 5" Zedds, this one will fill that void.
>>

3D printing (PLA) is good for dioramas
3D printing with resin is good for figures but break/crack easily.

I remember being hyped up when my neighbor had a Gorzack toy(which was about the same size as the crappy RC Megazord with the wrong shoulder pads). I thought it was meant to be a Goldar since you could expect some inaccuracy in toys, or maybe a KO, I didn't realize it was an unrelated toy entirely. We'd bring both to the edge of out properties and battle them.
Ever since I wished we'd get more monsters that were DX megazord scale
>>
>>11668513
Do kids even know G1 Transformers? that show didn't have any new episodes for 7 years before Power rangers and it's only TV presence was some reruns, then off the air for like 20 years. And yet we get like 20 G1 Optimus toys a year including some toddler toys. 80's kids aren't even having toddlers anymore on average, it's late 90s/2000's kids who are parent age now. We didn't grow up with G1.
MMPR is like the only nostalgia franchise that gets scrutinized like this when toy aisles are filled with Gen X toylines for kids
>>
>>11668692

Transformers is actually a multigenerational franchise though. G1 always gets the lion's share of the toys, but stuff like Beast Wars, Armada and even Animated are remembered fondly by younger fans and the toys sell reasonably well. Contrast that with Power Rangers, where most people are barely aware that there were seasons after MMPR.
>>
>>11668693
>the toys sell reasonably well
No they don't. Every time a new wave of Transformers are released the G1 figures sell instantly and everything else rots for ages. I live in one of the richest and most highly populated areas in the US and toys here typically sell very fast, but non-G1 Transformers don't even move here.

>the fans are retarded after all and can't accept anything after an "original"
You couldn't be more wrong. The majority of the fans want anything other than MMPR. It's the general public/casuals who won't even look at another season if it's right in front of them. Those random casual buyers make up the bulk of the consumerbase. The Lightning Collection is all the proof you need that there aren't nearly enough hard-core fans to keep a more nichè toyline comprised of other seasons afloat.
>>
>>11667811
Because that is fucking stupid, and you are fucking stupid to even ask the question.
>>
>>11668790
>Why is there no Joker figure to go with the Batman figure?
>What? That's stupid. You're stupid.
>>
>>11668696
MMPR is where the franchise was at the apex of its popularity so it's what stuck in the public consciousness, so it's all the rights holders focus on. It's an unfortunate self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't blame the fans for the companies in charge never putting in effort to refresh the brand like PR's contemporaries.

But f you look at the toys advertised for younger kids, it's still largely based on the G1 , long after most 80's kids stopped having toddlers. That's my point. The Armada and Animated based stuff is for nostalgic fans in the collectors lines, not how the characters are presented for younger audiences.
If you get a Rescue bots Optimus or a generic evergreen toy, they're gonna have hallmarks of the G1 design, not Armada or RiD or even the movies. The closest we get is Optimus Primal being in the rotation of evergreen characters now.
>>
>>11669929
Speaking of ReAction and Ultimates!... Is Super7 just done with MMPR? I was really loving their Zords and villains/monsters. As far as I'm aware the Ultimates! didn't even attempt for a new wave after the one with Bulk & Skull (which were successful), and ReAction advertised Lord Drakkon and Shellshock figures that still haven't come yet. Both lines still had plenty of main characters to work their way through... What happened?
>>
>>11669994
I wouldn't expect much from Super7 these days. They're not doing well financially.
