And if you happen to want an extra smart brick for MOCs or to play with, well fuck you, buy an entire set.The sets themselves are genuinely fine. The only headscratcher is the X-wing with its retarded cockpit placement. Everything else looks fine and would have been great sets even if they didn't have the smart brick. Side builds are cool and would make for fun scenarios to play out. I'm particularly excited for the Echo Base rumour, that seems like it'd be perfect for the new system - run missions in and out of the base while you get sound queues to what's happening.This is a good thing for the brand. We might finally have a year of Lego Star Wars that isn't just 50% 18+ slop.

People keep talking about Star Wars, Space, Castle, and Pirates. The sad truth is that all of these themes have peaked already. And once that happens, corporate greed steps in. Suddenly what made them great isn't good enough. They need to ramp things up and get as much money as quickly as possible. They strip the soul and leave us with an echo of what we loved. And unfortunately that soul cannot be returned. All these themes best days are behind them, they will never peak again.

If the dewback wasn't a hideous total brick build and at least had a molded head that would be kino. But as it is the two most exciting parts of the set for me are abysmal, so I don't know if I'll get any of the early bits. Unlike most I do think the tech is pretty exciting. If we can wind up programming lights and sounds and coming up with custom tiles it will open up an insane amount of potential for cool MOCs.

I didn't really get any of Wave 2. It was really 80s centric and movie centric, so it felt weak that there wasn't City stuff like Chase or even Lego Movie stuff. But by then I knew that the theme had bombed because people didn't know if it was supposed to be a video game about Lego sets you can buy or if it was supposed to be Lego sets with video game functions. And stuff like Skylanders and Disney Infinity felt like they killed the market for NFC toys. Some of us had a theory that the next wave was going to be Star Wars/Disney/Marvel since they are the biggest market of licensed Lego, but it was an early sign of Warner Bros backing out of video games. After that people would complain that WB games just went to shit, Gotham Knights/Suicide Squad, no Condemned/Fear, Lego games have new devs, Mortal Kombat rebooted 2 times. Dimensions was too good to last without greedy shit.

There's the set with Spider-Man and Ghostrider, the Mando/Grogu speeder, and like a year or two ago they had a $5 polybag with a Spider-Man and Venom minifigure in it. Cheapie sets with multiple minifigures in them are a great thing.
