So, what do we think of Smart Play? Why are adult men so angry about a kids toy?
>>11669459I think it could be discussed in the Lego thread where the people that have an opinion about it congregate and it doesn't need its own thread.
>>11669459This is baitWhat kid can afford an $80 x wing? You can buy a cheap tablet for $100. You can buy bootlegos for much less.

I didn't full expand on my point. An average boys allowance is $10, maybe $20 if he comes from a rich family. If lego wanted to make toys for kids, they would likely aim for 15$, which they do, with the superhero mechs. Its likely smart bricks were designed with afols in mind considering the price, but given builds for younger kids. The only solution i found was that maybe the smart brick was originally supposed to cost less, but quickly balooned out of control because of ai chip shortages (or something similar), resulting in a disconnect between price and intended audience
>>11669468>>For now, I’ll leave you with my closing takeaway from this week’s event: these sets are not at all designed for adults, and the LEGO Group is clearly communicating that not only through the age rating on the boxes – Lena told us that the key target demographic for SMART Play is six-to-eight-year-olds – but the design of these sets, too.>The X-wing is perhaps the best example. The four-stud-wide SMART Brick could easily have fit into the more accurate designs of recent sets, which can already accommodate R2-D2 (who is also four studs wide), but here it’s a chibified and cuter model built specifically for play. If you want an authentic LEGO X-wing to pop on a shelf, head elsewhere.>These sets are for an audience increasingly overlooked by a LEGO Star Wars theme that’s otherwise skewed further and further towards adult display sets in recent years, and that is – of course – kids. More specifically, kids whose parents have the money to splash on more expensive versions of sets we’ve seen countless times before, but now with sounds and lights.>Hey, it’s the Next Big Thing…https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-smart-play-hands-on-first-reactions/The demo is 6-8 year old according to Lego

>>11669541Fuck off Retrospammer
>>11669459Funny
since there are so many threads about that topic, what is smart play? Lego did use smartphone stuff for a few years already so why is it a problem now?
>>11669767It's just a specific brick that scans stickers or chips in figures to make different noises. It's essentially the the Mario character figures without a display. But outside of the character figures themselves, a lot of the Mario sets don't really seem hindered by the gimmick. For some reason the Star Wars sets are making much bigger compromises to the builds. The Mario sets have little 2x2 tiles with stickers that barely look out of place. These things have giant discolored gaping wounds where you plug the brick in.
>>11669767Makes noises
we need moar threads about his

>>11669459Adult men are getting very little sleep, almost no sex, and they generally suck at life except for the 4 minutes every hour they think they could be Tom Brady, or Tom Cruise, or another successful white man with a lot of money and supposed a lot of pussy and pretend that could be them.
