My fair and balanced take:
Will Smart Brick be successful? I don't know, but apparently Lego had a trial run in UK a few years ago and they decided to continue with it. Although I'm not a business person, I understand that companies need to innovate to avoid stagnation.

Why do you like it? I enjoyed watching the demonstration and Beyond the Brick clips. I though it was charming.

Is it too expensive? Maybe, but I haven't really bought any legos at the recommended retail price besides 40755. I believe you get what you pay for and smart brick is added value one way or the other.

Lego is a scam. They just figured out how to scam retards like you for even more.

I think the idea itself is pretty neat, if you can customise the sounds and lights etc it would be especially useful. Imagine putting it in a castle gatehouse and having creaking noises for opening the gates, drawbridge noises for the drawbridge. Or putting it in the blacksmith's forge where it plays a hammering sound when you turn the waterwheel and lights up red in the furnace. A chattering crowd sound in the marketplace. Or on a pirate ship it could play cannon sounds or sail sounds depending on where you move the switch.
The real issue is the price. They put half a billion into this thing so they'll have to overprice the sets even more than they already do just to break even. I guess I'll wait until some mother is selling one of the sets on FB marketplace with half the bags still sealed because the kid lost interest partway through.

Seriously? Why is lego that retarded? Why fix something that aint broken with their regular lego sets by introducing this smart slop into the equation?
>>
If it's only on starslop toys then it literally does not effect me.

All pokemon sets will be smart play too. Probably our first Mario minifigs too.

How the fuck did they burn so much cash coming up with this, except it's stuck to your toys?

10 years of development, they started around 2016-2017
>>
>>11669684
Why did they spend 10 fucking years on this shit? Why were they so convinced this would do gangbusters for them?
>>
>>11669689
Fun fact, nexo knights took 7 years to make (2009-2016), dreamzzz took 5 years (2018-2023), super mario took 4 years (2016-2020), meanwhile Ninjago took around 1 year to develop since late 2009, like november till launch in january 2011 (2009-2011). Bionicle started development in late 1999-early 2000 and released in 2001. Take that as you will.

There will be City sets with it as well. If it ends up being popular enoygh I'm certain each theme will have a taste of it.

They say in the book of monsters 2 and designer said so too, there is even test footage from 2009 if you search deep.

It's just a lower tech version of what the Mario sets have been doing for years, why do they think this is a breakthrough?
>>
It'll be interesting to see exactly how hackable/exploitable these new bricks will be. I hope we see somebody find genuinely practical uses for them. This first wave of toys seems completely and utterly skippable, though.
>>
>>11669683
lol ... We'll probably find out in a few years that precious earth metals were used in the Commtech chips then Ep1 figures will spike in value
>>
i love smart brick threads now
