Aijajai, that looks like shit. Sneaky of them to include a pokeball in the set. No matter how shit it looks, there now exists an 'official' Lego pokeball and that's enough to get sad 30 something-year old to buy this set
>>
These are just... extremly underwhelming?
Like they barely tried
>>
Pokémon seems like it would have been the theme to actually benefit from smart bricks. people could have battled with their Pokémon. And smaller brick built Pokémon in the vein of the Mario sets instead of these giant dust collectors. Or just regular minifigure sets. This is such a weird decision. I’m sure retards will buy it like they always do but I feel like they could have cast a much wider net. I say this as someone who hasn’t cared about Pokémon in 25 years and wouldn’t have bought sets either way.

Thanks for the bump, I did that math.

I did it back when they released the Enterprise-D, too. it's basically Lego mugging customers. oh, they'll pay $200 for sure for a Star Trek set, so why not make it $400 instead? if they can afford 200, they will also afford 400. a-aight? even if we don't sell as much, it won't be "half" as much. so in the end, we'll still make more money.

(that's only a little sarcastic, you can't blame Lego for MAX PROFIT-ing, it's our own fault for falling for it. we get what we deserve...)

Movie bounty, Legacy bounty and the new one are my favourites but I like this one becauase of the looks tho it's really lame how the set doesn't seem to have any thrusters or folding sails like the TV version. That really waters down the "play" part of it imo

There's one reason I care about these. The low quality, rudementary smart brick synthesizer means they can't use sound bites of the Pokemon saying their name. And since they can't just ignore the sound gimmick when it's pushed as such a big aspect of the brick, there's a genuine likelihood the brick will play each Pokemon's cry from the games, which could end up sounding pretty close to how they sounded in Gen 1. And that's kind of cool.
So ironically the smart brick being such underwhelming tech could actually save this line for me.
Of course I could be completely wrong and scanning Cubone will make the same nonsensical noise Luke Skywalker makes, and this is all just cope.

>one aimed at children

>"whaaa, why am it no priced for kiddiwinks like muh kiddy lego rip-off"
Because it was chinesium shit doing to the kid market what people are bitching about lego doing to the adult market in using the Pokémon IP to get shitheels buying their products. Only difference is Lego's brand worth allowing them to A) target an adult-only demo and B) charging accordingly for that privilege. (Again, 30th anniversary, shill shit at people who've been playing that fucking long). There's cheapo kiddy sets coming later in the year, for summer holiday times (when kids have time to invest time playing in lego fully for a while) but as that's still a while off and Pokémon/s unique launch foibles resulting in a February release enshrined as the day of celebration/significance as the day they reveal their plans for the year to the masses, they adjust their immediate, medium term and long term presentations accordingly (models in Feb for the boomers, lego sets for kids in the summer, game for everyone in Nov to start it all up again).

This is the year of Pokémon.

>>
>>11673801
>Is it hollow
Yes in the sense it has enough space to fully tuck its limbs and head into its shell and it probably has 2 giant water prodding glands for its cannon which also tucked into the shell. Blastoise also needs to move quickly on land so it likely has empty space in its shell to make it lighter/able to kove faster. It is also bipedal so having less weight on its little legs probably helps with that.
>>

I think it's a scale issue. You'd probably want a trainer standing next to a Pokemon. And how big would that trainer have to be compared to some of the Pokemon toys out nowadays?
>>
>>11673832
It has to do with Pokemon IP being held by multiple companies. The anime is owned by Shogakukan. The Lego license was awarded by The Pokemon Company, which is a consortium of Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures. That means no characters in the anime are included in the license: No Nurse Joy, no Jessie/James, no Officer Jenny, etc. It's Pokemon only. Lego would have to negotiate another contract for these characters if they want to create figures based on them.

honestly the giant slop model would have been redeemed if it were possible to pose them like this (or mega cope tier: if it were a 2 in 1 to make Venustoise). this entire wave is gen 1 nostalgia anyway and the show/dub was a huge part of that.

A doctor or some tech-worker in IT industry.
I know some people like that.

It's one of reasons they do such "museum-like" rooms - they basically have A LOT of money but NONE of the time.
so putting boxes/collection in their room makes them feel good...
i mean...
and me and you (i assume you collect toys too)

They will probably buy all those 3 pokemon sets day 1 and open weeks later and it will look great in their "super gamer room".

But yeah poorfags like me or any other normal person during this day and age won't be buying that slop.
I don't even know where would i post that shit...i already have too much stuff.

Pokemon collectors have bottomless pockets. They regularly buy and sell cards for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. They'll spend $650 on a card on a random Tuesday on a whim, so the LEGO set prices are practically a nonfactor to them.
>>

I know people shit on these because of KANTOOOO pandering, but that's probably from a Pokémon fan PoV.

LEGO fans are another kind of manchildren and since most of them only really played Pokémon during Pokémania, Kanto was the safest choice by the company.

I heard that there won't be ONLY Kanto, but the Kanto ones will definitely sell more than the rest.

But honestly, who cares? Most Lego fans aren't even Pokémon fans themselves so of course they will consume the nostalgiaslop (this Pikachu doesn't even look good).

Maybe they came to an agreement to make a one-off set? As for Bandai, I can only speculate that they negotiated a license with Shogakukan to make toys based on the anime characters. Consider that Ionix made Pokemon sets with trainers at a time when Mega Bloks still had the license.
>>

Ionix made sets before Mega got the license

>That means no characters in the anime are included in the license: No Nurse Joy, no Jessie/James, no Officer Jenny, etc.
Except those characters have appeared in Yellow and LGPE, and they could get around the licensing issue by specifically getting the license to those characters from Let's Go Pikachu specifically and not the anime. They wouldn't even have to stick to the LGPE style or anything, the worst they'd have to do is put the LGPE logo on the box or something.

Why does it have to be Pokémon models instead of LEGO sets of Pokémon locations? I get that the actual Pokémon are the main appeal of the IP, but LEGO is at its best when it’s doing vehicles, buildings, and locations with minifigs, not glorified action figures.

Like, give me towns, gyms, villain bases, routes, caves, anything. I guess there’s a Poké Center, but you can’t even buy it normally, so what’s the point?

Pokemon is a terrible license to get. you basically HAVE to combo all the characters together. otherwise you risk some sets selling out, while others don't sell at all.

it's easy to see even with these three. obviously EVERYONE wants Charizard, and NOBODY would want Venusaur (okay... that one guy...)

sorry Venusaur, Bulbasaur is cuter, he'd sell fine

with 1000 Pokemon, there's only a small chance they will even make your favorite
>>

Am i enjoying LEGO wrongly if im the type of person who just collects and organizes parts. like i lack the patience, ingenuity, and talent for making MOCs.

i genuinely enjoy just stacking pieces together with an alternating offset, or making a super duper long 2x plate for no reason. and i genuinely enjoy disassembling them.

it's intimidating being around moc experts and creative geniuses... i just want to stack plates and organize my parts. :3

I don’t think this follows. Wouldn’t this apply to all pokemon merch? Shouldn’t we only expect merch of, say, Charizard, Pikachu, lucario, etc.? Of course these are overrrepresented, but you can still find merch of Literal Whos like, say, dustox or whatever.

Also surely this applies to other licenses, too. I’m sure luke’s xwing is more popular than, like, glup shitto’s landshitter, but we still regularly get no-name landshitters alongside more popular builds.

As a technic builder, here is why builders prefer 'LEGO Technic' even though there are alternative brands

>quality is best
when i assembled Mould King, axle was stiff as pussy.

>Official store is clear
There's only one official store, so it's clear where you should buy the product. But CADA and Mould King has several stores run by resellers

>Lego actually send Replacements parts
It takes long time to get replacement parts, but Lego actually send parts,
On the other hand CADA and Mould King send parts too, (i actually got rep parts from the seller), but if you choose the wrong seller, you can't get any service

>instruction is best
Only the LEGO instructions had a warning sign that prevents placing the wrong parts

These are why there's no counter to LEGO Technic. Even Lego removed all of pneumatics and power functions. Then selling only licensed cars these days
>>
>>11674415
>9 sets
flareon, vaporeon, and jolteon 100% going to be all in a very overpriced single set
umbreon/ espeon and leafeon/ glaceon likewise are also going to be in less expensive but still more than they should be two packs
the only other single release i can see for them is sylveon because tpc is too scared to make another eeveelution due to the endless amount of fan art and all the legal bullshit that could happen if their design is too close to one of them
so we're probably getting 4 more sets that likely will total at around $1000 when everything's said and done

Look, people don’t have a problem with the total amount of money they spend reaching that level. The problem is when one single set costs $1,000, not multiple sets combined.

If an entire wave costs me $1,000, that’s fine, because I don’t feel it. Why? Because I buy sets at different times. But if one set alone costs $1,000, that’s when I say NO. One single set being $1,000 is ridiculous; multiple sets adding up to $1,000 isn’t.

The difference is that SW has been in Lego for long enough for people to know the trends. Popular sets like X-Wings, the Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers, AT-ATs, etc. will be remade again in like 3 years.

Glup Shitto's Pissfighter will probably be made once and then never again. Weird shit gets made once and that's it, or if it does get made again it takes 15-20 years.

It's too bad the Gym Badge set is GWP, but I'm not shelling out $650 for that nonsense. Honestly, the only pokemon I'd be interested in would be Lapras, if they make one. Pic-related would be a good callback.

This could be a fun playset, add a molded Pikachu and Ash minifig and it's gold.

Like I don't buy it, Lego could make a few very popular pokemons as molded, we got these guys only once so there's no excuse.

The dark age has begun....
>>
>>11674558
I don't know why anyone is surprised. Half of the shit that came out on January 1st went on backorder immediately. I've been wanting to buy the Black Pearl for like 3 months, but they keep extending the backorder to 60 days. It has practically been out of stock since it came out in October.
>>
>>11674560
Black Pearl is not lego.com exclusive anymore, you can find it at retail for cheaper
>>
>>11674301
You just described me whenever I try to build anything without instructions. I don't have the patience nor the pieces for designing good MOCs so anything I come up with I do spontaneously.

>>
>>11674571
I don't hate LEGO and I'm saying they have enough money for overpriced toys but not enough for a house, to the extent that it makes no difference whether they do or don't. $600 isn't even half of a month's rent in most places.
>>
>>11674550
Pokemon creatures should be done the same as animal pieces.
>>
>>11674558
dark age began when lego went all in on afol garbage and the 18+ boxes

Imagine having a $40ish Creator 3-in-1 style set for each of them, with each evolution as a different model.
Imagine having a line of minifig scale sets of iconic locations with molded Pokemon.
Imagine a bunch of Mixel-style polybags or small sets to build the many iconic Pokemon (collect em all).
Imagine literally anything but this shit. The only way it could be worse is if it were one of those sets that's just the logo of the franchise.
>>
>>11674612
I think LEGO Star Wars gets a lot of undue grief, but I simply cannot even believe that this is an actual set. And I saw a lot of SW collectors actually rank this set fairly high.

I know this sounds weird but remember, Japanese people are on average, tiny and thin. They weigh like 40-50kgs. Cultural pressure says that weighing any more than that is rude, lazy and unbecoming so even talking about heavier weights can make them feel uncomfortable.
Personally I'm a fat fuck, I weigh 130kgs thereabouts (that's why I'm in a Lego and Pokémon thread) and taller than Blastoise by about 10-15cms, I'm sure that's where the 50+ extra kgs are coming from.

>I'm gonna scalp the fuck out of pokemon sets.
this will only work for the very first round of sets, Lego will have underestimated the demand, and not produce nearly enough sets (Mega Bloks team's heads explode with ultimate seething)

the only time Lego failed to produce enough sets was when the first The Lego Movie came out. that was the only time it was difficult to find a set available in a store, Lego did release more sets, but those also vanished. oh, also CMF series 1. that was hard to find for a good while.

my point is, that it's usually never hard to find any Lego set. even if the first shipment sells out, eventually it's plentiful. hoarders wishing to scalp will only be making things worse for everybody, including themselves
>>
>>11674644
Nexo knights was such garbage dogshit it's actually unreal.
>>
>>11674644
None of this is necessarily true. Sets can sit on shelves unsold for years, and go on deep clearance or discount and still sit for a while, and then the day they retire or go out of stock and sometimes surge to two or three times their value immediately.

It's crazy how hard mega mogs the big lego models.

The face is arguably the most important thing to get right, and they look like shit. It's not like they haven't been able to do it before.

If we got $100 sets like the tuxedo cat's quality, I'd be so down. Or even like the 3 in 1 tiger creator modular which I managed to get for $30.

You can even still see some of the grey mixel joints poking through. They love to cover up studs with tiles, but couldn't put two on Venasaur's snout to make it look less like a pug?

These are really, really bad, ngl. Both design and price wise. It really is a bummer to say I'm not surprised whatsoever.

Offbrands are picking up more and more W's lately. I've been on the fence about getting a lumibricks cyberpunk modular, and was tempted to get a $150 Rivendell from Ali Express. Anything I'd want to keep together forever to display basically.

The only lego sets I've bought in the past 2 years are like the Tudor Corner, Tuxedo Cat, Gameboy, a few botanicals. All other purchases is specific parts from PaB or Bricklink, some vintage used sets.

Unironically I think imma pick up some of the mega pokemon sets now that I see how lego is treating this theme. I have a small gyarados I bought on clearance years ago, and it still looks cool.

I even went into street view just to make sure this wasn't some weird case of the distribution center putting their own address on the invoice, and it's literally just some random guy's house. How the fuck did the completely wrong order end up being shipped to me? Our names and the order numbers aren't even close or anything so I wouldn't think it was a simple clerical error. >>
>>11674747
No, P-Bandai being shit doeen't excuse lego being less shit. Lego should be produceing enough GWP for everyone to get one, its not acceptable that you spend the same amount of money as someone else and get less stuff. You shouldn't have to rush out to buy things or deal with technical problems, you should be able to buy things easily and in your own time. Its not entitled to expect the bare minimum levels of service.

For a country stuck in time like Japan, it is. Being fat is still reason for social ostracization there. While their men are slightly taller now, the women still want to be thin and light. This may be part of the reason why Pokémon are so light, or maybe the people writing that stuff are just insane. After the "Pokémon can just shrink themselves at well" debacle, I'll believe anything.
>>
>>11674790
I've seen a lot of successful fat JAV stars that say differently
>>
>>11674659
Look it up. The average Japanese woman weighs ~115 pounds. Japan is exceedingly walkable, the Japanese diet is less saturated with high calorie/low satiety foods and drinks, portions are smaller and portion control is more socially enforced, and there’s a serious social pressure to stay thin (including a “fat tax”). It’s not some inscrutable jap magic: Japan is just set up in such a way that people move more and have a harder time overeating.

let's say Lego thinks they can reasonably sell XX number of Pokemon sets so the factory makes that amount, they sell out immediately! They go back to the factory and make XX more! those also sell out!! it's too late to re-set the factory to run those first wave sets, the second wave sets are due to be produced (Lego factory time is not unlimited)...

so Lego instead makes 5 times XX sets for the second wave, and those sell great, but are still available on shelves. whew! okay. lesson learned.

now Lego makes 5 times XX quantity of all Pokemon waves, but that first wave is still rare and valuable, much more so than the newer sets.
>>
>>11674843
But you can still find that wave

>>
>>11674848
I might be exaggerating, of course, but I do think Lego is going to underestimate the demand for Pokemon (yes, it IS [thing-Lego!] but still...)

perhaps the fact that all the pre-orders filled up very quickly might give them some clues, and they might have extra time to catch up

The problem is just how good Pokémon’s character design is as a franchise.
EVERYONE has a favorite Pokémon, and usually several that they really like. For me it’s Charizard
Nostalgia then kicks in and pokemon you don’t really care about become charming. IE Oddish for me.

Despite the games being absolute dogshit now, they still create memories for the stupid kids who play it.

Honestly they really struck gold and I don’t even think they “meant” to when it was being designed.

you're not just paying for "the cardboard"

you're actually paying for all the hard work of the people who determined what to put on those little rectangles. there's artwork, gameplay elements, testing of the validity among the thousands of other game pieces, the bureaucracy of the arrangements of those assets.

cards don't magically appear with stuff on them, there's actually A LOT of work involved.
