I've always wondered who designed this now-classic set of Desert Storm-era American soldiers and the reasoning behind a couple of their weapons. The officer with radio having a Mac-10 or -11 with extended barrel/suppressor is odd enough but the dude with what's unmistakably a WW2-era German Schmeisser is just strange. Granted, there's a photo from the ongoing war in Ukraine of some guy armed with that very weapon but in that context it's at least believable; can't fathom a regular GI deploying to the desert having a preference for such a gun over standard issue, much less being given the option.
>>11677010On a related note, when other companies take existing figures and modify them for their own purposes you get some peculiar results. At some point it was decided to turn the guy with raised pistol and M16 rifle into a grenadier, opting to replace the latter weapon with a grenade. Unfortunately they didn't put a whole lot of effort into the conversion, resulting in a soldier with essentially no forearm, his grenade-clutching hand being welded to his elbow.
>>11677016This guy came to mind after finding pic related at work the other day with said pose clearly identifiable among the various other equally iconic soldiers. Will post a few more from the book later.
>>11677020It's a charming story, about two brothers on a snowy saturday morning where one wakes up to find the other has taken over the living room with a massive army men setup.
>>11678631Things start to go awry when army men bro vigorously rejects attempts from other bro to join in his game.
>>11678632The Archduke in Sarajevo moment happens when other bro accidentally causes a battalion of troops guarding the piano to domino effect hard, which army men bro assumes was a deliberate act.
>>11678634Just wanted to highlight this page and how the artist faithfully recreated the withered grenade arm.
>>11678635Things escalate quickly with attack, counter-attack and retaliation between the brothers. Many recognizable classic poses aside, this image is the only one to show a crawling pose, partially anyway.
>>11678641The climax is when other bro captures army men bro's soldiers and dumps them into the family snowblower, to await a fate worse than death. Army men bro retaliates by destroying other bro's prized book on Egypt and this is when both are finally overcome by the consequences of their actions and make amends, with other bro vowing to buy army men bro some new soldiers.
