I've always wondered who designed this now-classic set of Desert Storm-era American soldiers and the reasoning behind a couple of their weapons. The officer with radio having a Mac-10 or -11 with extended barrel/suppressor is odd enough but the dude with what's unmistakably a WW2-era German Schmeisser is just strange. Granted, there's a photo from the ongoing war in Ukraine of some guy armed with that very weapon but in that context it's at least believable; can't fathom a regular GI deploying to the desert having a preference for such a gun over standard issue, much less being given the option.

At some point it was decided to turn the guy with raised pistol and M16 rifle into a grenadier, opting to replace the latter weapon with a grenade. Unfortunately they didn't put a whole lot of effort into the conversion, resulting in a soldier with essentially no forearm, his grenade-clutching hand being welded to his elbow.

It's a slow time of year but ViiKONDO's got a couple new sets out so here's one of them (other is on the way). Really digging the art style, hearkens back to army men sets of old. Also like that every soldier has been given a name, in the listing they even have little blurbs for each which gives me the impression there's perhaps some tie-in media for these.

>>11694399I got these primarily for the vehicles; always on the lookout for more variety and specialized stuff and this doesn't disappoint with an SPG and AT missile spammer, giving the Tans some badly-needed support units for their tank rushes. It is interesting that the soldiers don't get any vehicles themselves, if you go by Colour Wars rules anyway.
>>11694415The AT spammer has a nice turret with both traverse and elevation; unfortunately the SPG's cannon is fixed in place though it can traverse, so a little imagination is required for long-range bombardment. The barbed wire pieces are a little unusual in that they're provided with pegs and holes to be attached together at right angles.
>>11694418The soldiers themselves aren't a new set - back when TRU was still cool and had army men there was a line of sets called Soldier Force that consisted of these poses, mostly in green but the largest set also had grey. That set also had one of the tanks included in this new set (the one at the back; the front one has the same hull but a different turret). Soldier Force pose count was fixed at identical numbers of every pose; this new set has followed Timmee's system by having a fixed asymmetrical pose count - the officer and heavy weapons units all having half the number of the regular riflemen.
>>11694422They're at a slightly smaller scale than average 1/35 soldiers, compared here with their Soldier Force ancestors. The plastic used is different and some of the newer poses required a little sprue-mark trimming from their bases to keep them from toppling over but overall they're a good reproduction of the earlier soldiers.
