Hasbro because GI Joe and Transformers are cool, and He-man is gay

Hasbro owns Beyblade, Transformers, and Nerf. Mattel owns Hot Wheels and recently acquired Megabloks. I think I'm going to go with Hasbro for nostalgia's sake.

Gotta go with Hasbro, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Nerf, Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black and TVC are all fantastic lines more often then not while Mattel only really has He-Man and the various He-Man offshoots. For "boys toys" you really can't beat the company that created the first Action Figure.

Hasbro. Think the last thing I bought from Mattel was this New 52 Batgirl 13 years ago on the right and it was only a few years later I replaced her with the DCC one on the left.

Hasbro has the three really solid action figure lines of Star Wars Black, Marvel Legends and G.I. Joe Classified (and Transformers) plus they own D&D not to mention the board games like Monopoly and art toys like Play-Doh.

Mattel owns three juggernaut brands...Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher Price. Barbie had a huge movie a few years ago. They also have He-Man, which feels like it should be has big as TF or GI Joe but for some reason just has failed to make a big relaunch.

I always get the impression that Hasbro is kind of a whore. Hasbro knows that if theirs an opportunity to make money they'll take it, even if it dosn't really make sense for the brand. Like think about the endless TransformersX[other franchise] toys they make.

Mattel is a little different. They treat Barbie with an almost religious amount of seriousness. That's kind of what the Barbie movie was poking fun at. I can garuntee you nobody at Hasbro gives a shit about any of the mythology of GI Joe or Transformers beyond that. It's the same way with Hot Wheels, they're primary function is to look as dope as possible and run really fast on a track (compared to other toy cars that wan to be accurate and realistic)

So yeah, Hasbro is a cheap whore and Mattel is a high class escort whore.

Hasbro will get on its knees and blow you in the alley while Mattel will only fondle you through your jeans in the alley long enough to get you to use your phone to make a reservation at the Courtyard by Marriott near the airport for the night?

I only collect Star Wars and G I. Joe so the answer is pretty easy; Hasbro. Mattel makes great dinosaurs though, I'll give them that but their humans suck major ass. They really need someone from Hasbro's TVC team to come give them lessons.

Mattel did better with Jurassic Park so Mattel

Because it's 80s stupidity and the only people who like that stupidity are nostalgiafags.
Robots and humans fighting wars are classic themes. Technobarbarians involved in mischievous pranks aren't.

ooof
Hasbro understands kids, thus they know that kids already cross over their franchises without little care if it makes sense or not. So Hasbro cashes in on it and tries to please them. Everyone is happy. That's not being a whore, that's just being fun.

Whereas Mattel IS serious about their business. Too serious. So serious that they toylines are hampered by their cost effectiveness. Less articulation. Fewer molds. Less paint. etc. Mattel puts business ahead of their toys/fanbase in such a margin that it puts off a lot of people from buying their products.
MAYBE HeMan would be more popular, if it was a little more enticing, with a bit more paint, better sculpts/more molds, and/or better articulated. Mattel lost the DC license because of how cheap they were with it and their DC toylines kept bombing. The only reason Mattel was able to keep the license for so long was because they were paying maximum licensing prices because of how big they are.
We've already see how Barbie was losing out 20 years ago, due to other companies giving girls more bang for their buck and the only way Mattel was able to beat their competitors was through litigation.

Mattel effectively remains in the business they use their size/money to remain in business. ... which is sort of an oxymoron, considering MegaBloks is a dead company/brand... but then, LEGO is bigger than Mattel, huh?

What? It was failing before the buyout, no one cared about it ever

Hasbro literally killed a 50 year old Japanese IP.

Mega Bloks wasn't failing.
Revenue in 2011 was 375 million in 2011 and then climbed to 420 million the next year. When Mattel bought them, they had a revenue of 408 million in 2013.
Whatever reason that Mega Brands decided to sell themselves off to Mattel was something internal, because their products were getting more popular.

After Mattel bought them, Mattel immediately cut their budget. Fewer pieces per set. Fewer minifigures per set. They cut out original toylines. Typical Mattel business sense, so its no wonder that the Mega Bloks line isn't a thing anymore.
