>Movie Bounty has the most detail and it shines as a display piece
>Does it at the coust of any real meaningful play features or transformations
>Legacy Bounty has the best play features with a shooter, extremely satisfying sail motion and technical bits that move parts on the back AND front of the ship
>does it at the coust of space (still great display piece)
>Temple Bounty fully capitalizes on space and can fit an entire crowd of minifigures on it's deck alone
>does ot at the coust of.... piece count(?)
It doesn't have as much detail as the Movie Bounty and despite having some sort of transformation feature on the stern it's nowhere near as complex as the Legacy Bounty...
But it does set the bar really high for Bounties moving forward and I'm actually really curious to see what a new one could look like 3 or 4 years from now.

(500 hours in my editing program)
aaargh sometimes Lego designers can be maddening.
they put lines on the torso that are not carried over onto the dress. the easy fix would be to remove those lines, or spend the pennies to print the lines down onto the dress.

you're paying $500 for this set. argh.

designer: "oh, b-but then you can use the plain lime dress bottom for your MOC figures!"
nobody is buying a $500 set for that one lime dress piece. that sort of consideration is perfectly fine (and appreciated) in a $20 set. maybe even that $70 set. but for $500?? print the dang lines on the dress piece. why are you going to make a $500 and not make sure every part of it (pun) is perfect? you know how much five hundred dollars is, right??

it's boob lines on Dr. Crusher all over again
-only blue Starfleet uniform
-they gave boob lines to Troi
-Beverly Crusher clearly "woman" on the show, it's not like she was flat-chested and unworthy for boob lines.
-designer "b-but we wanted universal torsos for MOC characters?"
-again, that would be fine in a $30 set, but NOT $400. ugh

i bet this will cost like 1500$
>>
>>11688104
Me neither, it is fine if you are not really a lego fan and have enough space, but i rather see them doing playsets that can connect so that people have the option to get a piece of the city or build the whole thing without figures being locked in 500$ sets.
>>
>>11688104
>I dont get the appeal of sets like this at all. Its so huge like you're buying a giant moc.
this was the ultimate lesson Lego learned for the Ideas site. freaking huge beautiful MOCs kept getting the 10,000 votes. Lego cringed thinking "if we made something like that, it would cost like... $500! there's no way people would buy that!" and the Ideas site kept re-enforcing that um... idea. so Lego gave it a try... and here we are....

>>

They released a trailer on playmobil instagram and showed some of the playsets, works like smart bricks but instead of figures having some kind of chips inside, there is a backpack that makes sounds and they can actually talk which is nice, better than smart bricks imo. They also have a generic backpack separate from police, zoo, pirates, etc. which you can put your own sounds with the app.

I always found the scifi aspect of this theme strange, I know it's to reference The Thing but the translucent scorpions are sure a weird way to do so.

My favorite theme is Insectoids, I always loved the space themes and love bugs so it naturally became my favorite. Shame it's a pretty unpopular theme, lego has never really fully referenced it. hard to make mocs for too since it uses old dark grey so heavily in its color scheme.

insectoids is a cool theme, the only reason i could see why people dislike it is because it has a lot of large specialized parts that were everywhere in the late '90s - early '00s

Johnny Thunder. Also I used to mix him into almost everything.
>Johnny looking for treasure of pirates (also featuring Divers and Aquanauts)
>Johnny Thunder goes to Japan (Ninja seta crossover)
>Johnny Thunder on castle (Indiana Jones and Last Crusade kind of thing)

I liked Arctic too as Johnny Thunder with Orient Expedition jacket reminded me of Kurt Russell in The Thing and Arctic base set had strong The Thing vibes to me.

I always thought that ship looked awful

like they were going for an in-between from the original Jedi fighter, and a classic Tie Fighter, and picked the wrong blend. maybe if the cockpit was more of a sphere? maybe if the wings were more of a triangle? I don't know. and they added the little flip-out things to look like.. "ha-hah! like a TIE FIGHTER?! HAAAAHHH?! SEE?!!!" in a lame way. the Astromech is just crammed on the wing, whoops did we forget? ah whatever, just put it on the wing... it's just a design mess

(personal opinion, I do like the two long gun canons in the middle, I guess)

Yoda's looked cooler. like they realized they f'd it up and gave Yoda the more-correct one

They're ok if they have multiple deals going on. At the end of last year I got the Jazz Club and Boutique Hotel for like $180 each, and they had 2x points going at the same time.

And even though Youtubers shill it, there is that rakuten app that has cashback all the time. Usually its only like 2 or 3% back, but they have more than during holidays or just whenever. Yesterday they had 10% back, and like a week or two ago they had 7.5% back.

Those all tend to work together, so you can technically be getting like 20-30% back from LEGO stores pretty regularly.

>Is there any other blue shirts they could have included so that could be the generic one?
that's the point. there was NO other blue-shirt character, so there was NO reason NOT to put boob lines on Beverly Crusher.

take Ro Laren. she is also a full-woman, and should have had boob lines. but Lego did not want to spend resources on another torso print, since Riker and Picard already had plain red shirts. so just toss that one on Ro.

it's clear Lego did not want to have "boy" and "girl" of each color, it was simpler (for them) to just print 3 torsos. which might have been (eye-rolling-ly) acceptable if the sets were $20. but FOUR HUNDRED??!! do they truly expect customers to buy $400 sets for extra blue torsos, so they can make MOC male-coded characters? (sarcasm mode) it's a good thing they didn't put boob lines on that blue torso for Beverly!!

one of the following, pick your favorite:

A - Lego can't make enough of them, rather than spread out small quantities across all areas, Lego chose the highest-profit areas to maximize exposure

B - unable to secure laws regarding electronic components in toys. Lego has no experience with this, and that one guy they hired was not able to "get it done" in time for all those other places (or those places legit rejected the spy devices?)

C - Lego simply doesn't care about those countries. the sales numbers are too small to worry about. once the tech is proven successful they can give those areas some charity releases

D - Maybe there's another reason I don't know, those other ones seem a little obvious

The smart bricks sets feel like really juvenile to me, like a step above 4+ to me.
Look at the Cantina set for example, they added a big juicer and introduced new blue milk pieces, because of the implication of *gasp* it's a bar that serves alcohol. Remember "Han shot first", nah, Han isn't even in the fucking set. Also remember when Greedo danced with the Jizz Wailers? Because I sure don't!
It has the vibe of Star Wars slice of life, like you're not meant to recreate battles or dogfights, like I used to do as a kid.
Also it's weird that they're doing this with the OT cast, are they that relevent to today's kids, it's more like their grandparents would be OT fans.
>>
>>11689619
I'm fairly certain the younger gens grew up with the prequels and often also prefer the prequels because they look less dated.
Hell even I grew up with the prequels and only started to truly appreciate the OT later on, and I'm currently nearing my thirties already.

Better buy all three in order to make sure you can actually SMART play out some scenes like Luke's lightsaber training, the introduction of the mind trick, Han shooting Greedo, etc. Oh and by the way NONE OF THESE SETS ACTUALLY COME WITH THE SMART BRICK LOL so go ahead and buy the X-wing to get Leia and a smart brick :)

it was not super clear during the reveal demos, but it appears that there is some kind of synthesizer noise maker in the brick, like a piano, and it plays tunes or makes sounds based on the figures or other tiles it scans. so the Imperial March from Vader kinda sounds alright, but the laser blasts are just noises and not sampled exact sound effects from the movies.

I think the idea WAS that you could use any Smart Brick and use it in any set, the effects are based on the tiles and minifigs

I 100% agree that Lego should have included Genuine Star Wars sound effects. THAT would have been "worth it" for me. I'm not going to do a list, but there can't be more than 20 or 30 "ka-pew!" blaster "whooo-whooo" lightsaber noises.
I want to hear THOSE noises, there can be no substitutions that doesn't sound like they embarrassingly missed the point of having sound effects in the first place

>it was not super clear during the reveal demos, but it appears that there is some kind of synthesizer noise maker in the brick, like a piano, and it plays tunes or makes sounds based on the figures or other tiles it scans
My guess is they did this so the sounds could be encoded in the NFC chips, the smart brick just reads that and converts the data sound. That way they aren't including copyrighted Star Wars sounds when they put a smart brick into a City set.
>>
It's pretty clear to me that Star Wars was the worst possible choice of theme to introduce shart bricks. If they had come out with City or Ninjago sets people would have probably thought of them as a neat novelty and the sets would only be slightly overpriced instead of massively. Once people already have some cheap to moderately priced sets with shart bricks available, THEN you introduce Star Wars sets with shart brick compatibility first, then finally the Star Wars all-in-one sets. It's pretty amazing how thoroughly they managed to fuck this launch up.
>>

>>
>>11690128
>That way they aren't including copyrighted Star Wars sounds when they put a smart brick into a City set.
right, I understand "why" Lego thought it was a good idea to not do accurate sound effects. that way the Smart Brick is 100% future-forward, with no thought of "it does Star Wars pew-pew lasers, but not (new thing's) sound effects?!!!
>>11690133
>It's pretty amazing how thoroughly they managed to fuck this launch up.
exactly the point. launching it with not-accurate sound effects is embarrassing. especially with the public perception of how easy it should have been to have real noises

I can't afford those high Star Wars prices, more so with the expensive electric bricks on top.
but... if it WAS cool enough, maybe I would have thought about it.
jumping the Stormtrooper up-and-down, hearing the classic "ka-pew!" over and over. might have been neat. this does none of that. pass.

but that's just ME

I'm curious if Lego is so sure that there is enough sloppity slop slurping Star Wars fans to GUARANTEE these smart bricks sell out, regardless if people even open the boxes to check them out. simply because they are Star Wars, they will sell. ironic that Lego wants kids to "play" with these, yet they will all sit in closets waiting to go up in value

what a disaster. who at Lego thought they needed a smart brick?

I heavily crave an Imperial Star Destroyer and I always wanted the 2006 one as a kid, but after days of pondering and comparing I cannot believe that I'm actually drawn to the 2024 version the most.
It's downscaled.
The proportions are off.
The minifigs are new aka soulless/overly detailed.
I do not fucking care about the jedi ginger.

BUT the model does seem to be the best one out of all 3, especially around the edges and it's color palette.
Both the USC ones cost and arm and a leg and you cannot actually play around with them, and my other options are miniature scales. I almost feel like giving up entirely and just getting the first mini version solely because they used that in the complete saga video game.

the original lego hogwarts is revered not only for it's impressive size, but also because there are a ton of play features that make it unique and engaging
add on the modular nature of the original hp sets, you could make a castle with fewer sets and parts than the 2018-2023 version and still end up with something of comparable size
the only thing the old sets lack is minifigure variety, most sets come with some variation of harry/ ron/ hermione, and none of the sets in the original run came with ravenclaw or hufflepuff uniforms

>>
>>11690311
Maybe I've just been missing them, but I don't feel like its really the builds that people take issue with with the newer sets. Its really the downsizing coupled with the increased prices. In fact, I feel like plenty of people say the recent AT TE, MTT are probably the best looking ones, and plenty of people think the newest Turbo Tank looks decent too (though, that's one of the only ones where the build actually does suck).

I've only just gotten back into Lego in the last three months or so, and I've really enjoyed every SW set I've gotten, and that's basically every SW set on shelves right now with the exception of said MTT and Turbo Tank and the huge sets like the UCSs. I actually really enjoyed the Arc-170, the V-19 torrent, the TIE Bomber and a number of others.
>>
>>11690422
If you remove the shitty studshooters, forget about the totally-not-censored Aylaa minifig, the obscene pricetag, and if it was brown instead of blue, then yes, the newest MTT does look rather good even while being the smallest of the bunch.

You cannot really go wrong with the TIE bomber, ahem, you literally only have 2 options and the OG blue TIE bomber unfortunately aged the worst out of all the blue TIEs.

The newest Arc-170 is very compact, but it has too many other issues for me. I could nitpick about everything everyone has done to death about it already, but the bottom line is that it just does not look good to me.

I think the best value for points (or the best reason to buy from LEGO) probably comes in the form of exclusive GWP or rewards sets, some of which sell for ludicrous prices in the secondary market. But if don’t care about any of those sets, there’s no reason not to buy the things you want discounted elsewhere.

Even downscaled the latest ISD is huge. It's probably the biggest set I own. All playset ISDs are downscaled anyway, since if they actually made it in scale with the minifigs it'd be the size of a small building. My main issue with the new one is the stickers. I don't like stickers in expensive sets, and my hand slipped while applying one of the long ones with the computer panels so now it's at a slight angle and that bothers me.

A while back I bought a Chinese brick set of some floating temple. It was dirt cheap (£19 for 2300 pieces (the pieces were smaller than regular Lego and I unironically developed a callous)) and seemed okay at the time (it also took 4 days of grinding to finish). Today I bought (20% staff discount ;)) my first real Lego set, the Droideka. Gotta say I'm really happy with it. No missing pieces, it's actually about as tall as the temple I bought if not a little taller, and is just fucking cool. I really like the rubber tubes for pneumatics and the fact that everything fit together so well. And it's posable! That it came with a little plaque of information and a 25th Lego Star Wars anniversary piece was the icing on the cake. Took around 2.5 hours to build if you're curious. The only part of the instructions that I took a few seconds with were attaching the back carapace to the body, I couldn't fully tell while of the two holes I was supposed to insert the thingy through.

I'm impressed. Shrek fans with the maximum WIN

12 characters
$5 each
$60 total (plus tip lol)

no need for a $400+ set, which would have had like, 8 minifigs in it

does Lego realize what it's done? will Shrek fans realize you lucky they are?

argh if only they could have done the same for Star Trek. I'm not a Shrek fan, in the only the slightest way, but I'm so jealous of them right now.
>>
New to this and all I really want to build and build are Mech's. Is there any reason I can't buy those smaller sets like Ninjanjo or whatever the fuck it's called and add some bricks from something else to extend his legs 2-3 inches so when I stand it next to a regular, they will scale?

Or should I just wait for something like that SW trooper to drop below $10 and pick up a few boxes? Or buy some incomplete mechs from BrickLink? Don't care about missing MFs or sticker labels since they won't be Luke or Rocket to me, although obviously I can't do that with something very specific like Ironman.

Star Wars has a built in audience that Lego knows will overpay for literally anything. Also it's no coincidence that Pokemon is the next smart play theme after Star Wars.
>>
>>11690287
I think lego have been super vague on that, supposedly the smart bricks can network together but as far as I understand it there's no ir transmitter or receiver on the bricks like how laser tag systems work. They probably just make pew pew and explosion noises randomly.
>>

>>
>>11690826
they have built-in accelerometers and gyros to detect how roughly you are playing, if you abruptly stop moving it will play an explosion sound effect
these can also be used as an INS system to precisely track exactly where you are at all times. They use very low frequency radio antennas that require very little power to transmit and can penetrate easily through walls so they can reach your nearest 5G tower which can forward that data to Lego and CIA headquarters.

exactly. if I want to make my own Star Trek sets, that's $400 to get the minifigs. Zelda? $300 (soon to be $130) even back when Lego did Scooby Doo, (before ADULT sets) you needed like 3 sets worth $150-ish to get the whole gang

Shrek? maybe only $15. maximum $60, for all the characters you'd need!

All those 2020s sets were pretty good man. It was a good time to jump back into Star Wars for OT sets. Couldn't give a single fuck about Asohka or Clone Wars garbage sets but play scale ATAT, ATST, Aluminum Falcon, etc were all good. Managed to grab Obi Wans hut, Landspeeder, and Yoda's Hovel from previous years back then. Even the Boba Fetts Throne room was pretty decent. You just needed to bricklink the rooftop pieces for a slight MOC modification.

>>11690346
The problem with the dedicated pieces and the flood of 1x1 elements is that they suck for MOCs.

>What means cheaper? Price per part? Does getting 100 1x1 tiles for less than 100 bigger 1990s pieces really mean stuff got cheaper?
the conspiracy theory reverse-ers want you to believe that Lego prices should be based on "weight" rather than "pieces per set" and thus 3 1x1 tiles "weigh" more than a single 1x1 brick, so Lego is using a higher quantity of plastic material in the sets than they used to.

so the set from 20 years ago that had 500 pieces and cost $50 is equal to the modern set that has 500 pieces, and also costs $50, despite the pieces being a lot smaller in the modern set. both sets are equal in weight, and that makes the modern set technically cheaper (because economic inflation $50 was 20 years ago vs $50 today)

of course, in my own personal opinion, I'd rather have bigger sets. if it really makes no difference to Lego, why NOT give us bigger sets? at least cram in some big walls or something to make the sets "look" bigger?? (actually Friends does do that, often)

Hi people, plz rate my Star Trek online Crew :)
>>
>>11691751
I soooo much want to make my own Star Trek crew, too

but I'm poor (according to Lego) so I can't afford the $400 buy-in, or like the $50 each for 1 freaking torso on the single-parts-site. (I don't know if they are actually $50 torsos, that's just a guess)

for what it's worth, your crew looks cool. did you need to swap hand colors on that one with the grey hair? I don't know if that's some kind of alien race I don't know about. and there's one in the corner with the white hair that can't be seen, so maybe that's just a display adjustment needed.

from left to right
Ayax - Romulan sub-lieutenant
White hair huy - Leonardo da Vinci, Hologram from Holodeck 2
Redhead girl - Elisa Flores First Officer
Blode Guy - Captain Castro
Gray hair guy had black head just coz still I have not the proper head. Still on it.
Girl in Cadet Uniform - Lyra, Progenitor chimera
Last one, Taldri, Betazoid science main officer.

I believe it’s cheaper both by parts count and by weight, but a lot of these stats came from like 2024, so the overall trajectory might look a bit different now with the past couple years of price hikes. Nonetheless, there’s been a decades-long decrease in the cost of LEGO, and I doubt even the recent “gouging” would be enough to reverse that trend.

Note that I’m not saying current prices are fair (it could very well be that Lego is trying to bleed its customers dry and see just how much they’ll tolerate). I’m only saying, as a matter of pure description, it doesn’t seem to be the case that Lego is more expensive now than it was when we were kids.
>>
>>11691715
Dude definitely never ducked down the neighbor girls. Sad. He’ll never experience teenage love.
>>
Lego has objectively become cheaper (in most cases, looking at you August 2025 Star Wars wave) over time but the buyer's perception is that prices have increased due to there being a much larger proportion of higher-priced sets releasing these days with very few cheap sets coming out at all in addition to how a lot of sets are shrinking in size in order to become more detailed.
