Been busy the past few weeks but finally got some time to continue the Hornet. Crazy complicated masking just for a few smudges of green camo but I like the subtlety of this, it's very nice. Also for the people asking about photos in the thread, look at the difference between artificial (even good) LED and natural here, the difference is astounding and arguably the biggest upgrade you can make in photo quality is just taking photos with natural light

Note for the Shokaku one, if you pick it, that none of the 5th carrier divisions B5Ns used torpedos during this, iirc all had the 6*60kg since they were part of the second wave, you should watch the pearl harbor video by channel montemayor on Youtube. The Kido Butai's aviators during the start of the war were one of the most well trained units overall and the best pilots in the world at this point, the carrier personel had to keep these aircraft in best possible condition which they succeeded in if you look at any image of these from 1941. Probably no chipping at all, or as close to none as you can get on a service aircraft.However by 1942 these had seen much service with little downtime (this was the reason Akagi still had beige D3A1 during the battle of Midway, all other carriers had changed theirs to green upper surfaces/Soryu and Hiryu already in time for Wake Island), so you could use the same camo for E-311 with some chipping and torpedo for the battle of the coral sea in May 1942 (or with bigger bombs for the Darwin raid, idk specifics for that tho)

I'm curious how you guys manipulate smaller pieces when you airbrush them. I just started out in the hobby and I thought I would be fine just using my tweezers, but the stream of air makes them pivot or fly away. I've seen people use wooden sticks with small jaws or even with some sort of putty at the end.

building this oldsmobile cutlass as a rusty project car, and I need ideas on what to do with the interior, namely the tan parts. I want it to look old and used but still USED so not completely rotten. I just took a big chunk out of the edge of one of the seats and I plan on making it look like the seat is torn as best as I can.also anything else you can think of that the interior could use
heres the engine on it so far, needs an oily wash and some extra grime in spots. ill probably do some basic detailing like spark plug wires and hoses but not going crazy

Just finished this 1/72 MAC Distribution (no idea what company this is, I found the kit for $18 at my local model shop). It was a miserable build, all the parts were covered in flash and nothing fit together well. Oh well, at least it's done. Planning on building a 1/48 Hasegawa Mitsubishi T-2 for the group build.

Tried the salt chipping technique first. It didn't work out at all and I'm not sure why. The salt crystals didn't dissolve at all so the chipping paint was incredibly ugly and granular. I redid everything but used hairspray this time instead. It works a lot better but the paint comes off super aggressively and I ended up with much bigger patches than I wanted, especially on the back quarter panel. Regardless, I think it looks pretty good and I'll be adding rust streaks and dirtiness before its totally finished to blend it all in some more hopefully.I still haven't got a clue what I'm gonna do with the interior though.

Just letting everything cure properly maybe until tonight, then it's time for the non-painted decals for the Hornet. Overall I think this is a quite good kit (the Hobby Boss 1/48 Hornet C, this one is the CAG bird set but those decals go straight into storage), but the landing gear especially suffer from very bad ejector pin marks. Also if you wanna build the crew access ladder folded up, good luck, it simply can't be done without making your own little bit of plastic to cover it. Also captcha is fucked up today huh had to open 4ch in incognito to post this

Revell's 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W30.Actually a pretty good kit, especially for Revell. It having been tooled in 2009 makes it miles ahead of their usual 60 year old boomerslop. The detail is pretty good, and the fit on everything was as well. Its of course still not even close to something from Tamiya or Hasegawa but its good to see that newer Revell stuff isn't complete trash.

It's done. It's really not a great build or result in my opinion but after the issues with the clearcoat (do not buy Ammo lucky varnish) which I fixed by orange peeling the fuck out of it with Vallejo Gloss, I lost interest in fixing some minor issues with fit. The tail lights especially do not fit on at all and look a little wonky, and some interior details were skipped. I'm gonna buy a selection of acrylic clear coats to test and report my findings here when I receive them all so we can all hopefully learn from this Skylines sacrifice.Strangely comes with a shitload of decals for the interior with zero indication of how to use them either, and with the aforementioned loss of interest I did not research where they were meant to go, so they will be kept for some later more fortunate builds
