But NFC chips can only hold 1kB or so, so they have to store it in a kind of midi format instead of mp3 or something which would take more space.

I have probably 20 speed champions, pretty much all of them from the last 2-3 years (save for all the same-y Formula 1 cars) and the minifigures fit fine in all of them. Granted, if they have a bigger hair piece, they need the helmet instead, but that's only true for a couple of them.Speed Champions are probably some of the only sets that aren't like, multi-hundred dollar sets that actually have pretty creative builds, with some neat and unconventional parts usage. Out of all of the ones I have built, only maybe one of them was just kind of a "whatever" build. The rest have been really good.
