I rarely see anyone posting pics or info about thesethere sure is something magical about the VF-1 seeing how many renditions has had over the years
I have 2 of the Robo-dous. They are great.
>>11719786that is mostly because the price point entry of the shittiest valk nowdays is 150 bucks, way above what most people are willing to shell for a toykitzconcept, three zero and now something called unix square shat their own abominations, pic relatedimo the yamato/arcadia mold is the best one, but they have become so scarce their price is also ridiculous to the point they enter the range of Bandai's DX prices, which is hands down the best rendition of the vf-1 so farI just wish they would hurry up and release it in the brown cannon fodder colors
>>11719786I really want ti get into Macross toys, but have no idea where to start for cheap. Everything seems too expensive. I don't even care about transformation, just want a good mech and plane with legs. What would be the most entry-level-friendly figures?
>>11719939probably a Hi Metal figure or a three zero one, really depends of what you wantthe vf-1 is the most basic shit and relatively availableanything from any other of the series is harder to come by
>>11719786Bandai and Kaiyodo design better transforming planes than Hasbro and Takara do. The planes look like planes, and not "planes on top, folded-up robot on bottom."
>>11719939>Everything seems too expensiveEverything is too expensive. That and Chogokin stuff are not meant for poor-boys to collect. I can't afford it either.
>>11719939there is also the HG kits as a cheap option
>>11719786I got 2 DX vf1, the one that comes with the heavy armor and the dyrl hikaru one, for which I got the missile and super partsthey are a joy to handle but yeah, hyper expensive as fuckalways hoped to get the Max one but the demented prices are insane and I'm still waiting for the mass production recolor
the Robodou line is respectable and relatively affordable(in a world where 6 inch Japanese lines are reaching $100 as a base price, at least). wince at the Robotech connection if you must, Threezero does a good job imitating other company's engineering for much cheaper and decent quality.I always wished Macross had a retail transformers midsize-lowprice option at the expense of high quality. something like Voyager (or I guess Leader sized now) Transformers, an update to the 80's/90's toys that were nicely engineered but still toys. The High Metal stuff is your alternative but it's still collectors pieces that will prioritize swappable parts instead of wholly complete transformations, and are of course smaller size figures as well.
>>11720547>robotech>harmony gold>crunchyrolleverything I hate in a single pic, thnks bro
super armor/fast packs
>>11719939seconding this >>11720204you just need to build them yourself and be okay with heavy partsforming
>>11720547these are basically as good as it gets for price to value unless you're ok with the partsforming model kits, unfortunately if you want the classic vf-1 the kits are not an option yet
>>11721147Does it transform? That VF-19 looks good in mecha mode but that means nothng to me unless it transforms too.
>>11721198it partsformsthere's another half of a jet in the box basically and you swap some bits onto it to get the jet mode
>>11720599>everything I hateBut do you remember love, anon?
>>11720979Heck yeah, this is what I have been waiting for
>>11721230yeah I love magic kawamori planes
>>11721198these kits are partsformers, think like a HG Zeta and about the same sizehttps://schizophonic9.com/re7/hg_yf192.htmlhttps://schizophonic9.com/re7/hg_yf19.htmlbandai once tried their hand at fully transforming plamos from the original macross valks, frontier and delta, but they were notorious for being extremely flimsy and requiring tons of extra work for proper lineart/animation accuracy
>>11719809>>11719939You can get the hi-metals for well under a hundred dollars now. they go on sale all the time via amazon. Even the DX figures drop below $100 on occassion.Ever since Macross was allowed to be officially sold globally the prices have declined a lot.figures that cost me $300 years ago I can get for $200
>>11721301Where do you buy these stands?
>>11719786>I rarely see anyone posting pics or info about theseUsually all in the Robot Damashii thread as it tends to serve as a generic mecha/robot thread too.Not too often in there either.
>>11721566I got them at calibre wings but they have been out of stock foreverhttps://www.calibrewings.com/router-style-display-stand-version-2-0
>>11721567the RD thread is almost dead for the same reason, releases at glacial rates and at scam prices
>>11719786>I rarely see anyone posting pics or info about theseIt took a long time but I got tired of the valkyrie toy cycle. It is as follows:>valkyrie is announced>Idiots like me buy it>that money is used to release a more desirable version of that same valkyrie>this tanks the value of the original one>people who bought the first one just got fucked in the ass. >the smart move is to never buy the first version>but if nobody bought the first version, the "good" version would never get released. I'm over it. They're nice toys but I hate the way the market works.
>>11722693>all that hi-metal Bandai and KaiyodoDamn that's an expensive collection.
>>11722742That's an interesting reply because there aren't any hi metals or kaiyodos.
>>11722693unfortunately not wrong, these toys seem to usually have engineering failures somewhere that it takes a reissue to fix, plus they always manage to make the accessories or paint better on the updated version
>>11722750With the yamatos/arcadias they were portrayed as a small, struggling company and if you didn't buy their stuff they're gonna go out of business and maybe that was true to some extent since they really did go out of business and were reborn as arcadia but still they never once missed an opportunity to fuck me with versions that had improved paint jobs. If you ever bought a yamato/arcadia valk on release you got fucked 100% of the time. So then bandai comes along and you think oh it's fucking bandai a multi billion dollar corporation we don't have to put up with this shit anymore and bandai does the exact same fucking thing with the frontier valks.
>>11722756>Metal Gear RexNICE. And whoever owns that collection has a big fixation on Macross Plus.
>>11722693nice display anon
>>11722756>>11722693whoever bought the first DX valks from frontier got gigascammed considering how shitty they were all
>>11722693The YF-30 is my grail. I wish it got re-releases like the frontier VFs.
>>11723424You may want to consider another grail it's not a particularly good valkyrie or toy in my opinion. The backpack on it is awful and lazy. The fragile tailfins just hang out the bottom waiting to get snapped off and there's a perfectly good tailfin-sized cavity they could have folded up into but apparently nobody cared enough to do that.>>11722758>>11723033Thanks I've got more recent pictures with more modern valks in the collection but can't find them anywhere. If anyone saved them I'd appreciate a repost.
>>11723506
>>11719786wat about the model kits? I know there are plenty of manufacturers and I'm thinking of getting a plamax battroid kit, the Max one, but I can't find any reviews of itonly some pics show the parts at least come molded in white and blue plastic
>>11719786Hey it's Jetfire
>>11721147Are these easy to build like Gundams or do they require paint?>be okay with heavy partsformingHonestly, I don't even care if they transform, I just want a good Gerwalk figure. Fighter and Battroid are a nice bonus, but not required.
>>11724260They are easy to build but as You can see >>11721304 here it needs a Lot of details, reason why this kit gives You a large sheet of waterslide decalsImo the Best gerwalk modes are those of the original vf-1 and the 25 but there are not many plamos of those
>>11724260a minor correction on what anon said here >>11724276 the kit comes with a sticker sheet for the markings and wing stripes, the water slide sheet is sold separatelythe pictures in the schizophonic9 review here >>11721304 show the kit without any stickers, paint, or decals so some parts are colored by the parts but there will be areas missing the right color
>>11724260>Honestly, I don't even care if they transform, I just want a good Gerwalk figure. Fighter and Battroid are a nice bonus, but not required.that's kinda funny because the Gerwalk mode only exists as a result of the transforming figure demonstration not working properly and falling into an inbetween mode during presentation
>>11720599Look I get it but honestly? The HG deal has had no effect on my life or getting into Macross. A rotten deal sure, but most of these figures are unlikely to be imported because of how niche they are, only the model kits and smaller size figures I'm not as interested in. I've been watching downloaded subs for decades and have been importing toys for well over 15 years now. Apparently the prices have gone down on the Bandai stuff as they're more readily available to be imported so that's a bonus. I don't really see it affecting the Arcadia prices much though. On the other hand, the HG loophole allowing Threezero to produce figures like this for under $200 is also a bonus I'd say.
>>11724253pic related of what I'm aiming for, as the DX chogokin figure is stupidly expensive
>>11724860Fine. There's always the dollars argument but the HG thing really boils down to whether you support evil or not. In the toy world it really doesn't get more evil than HG. These fuckers are so evil they literally tried to trademark "macross" in JAPAN. if everyone who was ever involved with the HG legal shenanigans dropped dead the world would be a better place.
>>11725474Yeah this guy gets it and perfectly summarized why I hate HM and everything associated to it
>>11723506I'm aware the design has some significant problems. For some reason though I just heavily prefer it on an aesthetic level to any of the VF-31 models.
>>1172426019's gerwalk looks like it is using the potty
DX Chogokin - best but too expensiveArcadia/Yamato - hard to findThreezero - good new kid on the blockDO NOT get kitzkoncept or toynami - flimsy and fragile
>>11727780add this garbo too in DO NOT GET >>11719809unix square mold is shitit may be trying something interesting like making armor parts from defenders but the valk itself they made is horrible
>>11727889bummer, I kind of like the chunky proportions of the robot mode
>>11727780how would you rank the HI Metal figures?
>>11724253the issue with the macross plamos is that they require you to put more effort compared to bandai, which has the lowest difficulty baraoshima and hasewaga have made the most kits and while not excessively difficulty, they are obviously catered more for people with experience building plane model kitsbandai previously tried making fully transforming kits of the VF-1, the 25 and 31 and are notorious for being super flimsy and coming with comically large sheets of stickers to make up for all the detailsthey kinda improved a bit with their recent line of HG valks by cutting corners and making them smaller and partsformersmax factory was the latest one to enter the market with the plamax line imo it compates directly with hasegawa with more anime accurate molds and easier builds>>11728165overpriced nowdays for what you get and their size
>>11728165I'd rather have one of the bigger figures than 3-4 hi-metals. Macross doesn't do small well.
>>11728165Personally I find they need too much partsforming and the transformations at such a small scale make them pretty fiddly to handle. They’re not bad for what they are but they’re not even in the same league as the bigger toys.
>>11728165they are a bit finicky but on the other hand, they are still relatively affordable since the only other option are plain impossible to get, like the Arcadia VF-0 valks
>>11731229is it true all the hi metal VF-0 valks are kinda garbo? I have the S one that was first released and it defintely feels way cheaper and of lower quality compared to the VF-4 I have.the white plastic that ends up almost traslucent under the sunlight and the cheap feeling you get when handling it were really big cons for me I dig the VF-0D but I fear it will be the same
>>11731788The 0A, 0D and 0S Max were all solid. Not sure about the re-release of Roy's 0S with the Ghost since it's not long out.
>>11731803nice displaywait, they made a max recolor of the 0?
>>11731788I only got the VF-0A precisely because I thought the white one looked like shit with that plasticI don't think its a bad toy though
Thread isn't bumping. That's odd.
>>11732130its already on autosage, proof of the little discussion these tiys geta shamealso, where did you get that beauty?
>>11731832Yeah it was a Tamashii Nations exclusive for their 15th anniversary/part of Worldwide Macross, same deal as the 35th anniversary VF-1S in Delta colours. Wish they'd to a Milia version to go with it though.
>>11731788I had mine stored and went to check it, can't say it is badif anything the transformation feels a bit finicky and the white color is not the pure white one you see in the box, there is a very evident difference compared to the brighter white in the various handsif anything, I think they should have made some side cavity covers because looking it from the sides you can see the large swing bar right behind the nose of the plane
>>11732369I probably got it from HLJ that's where I bought most of my stuff.>>11732550They did a max but not a milia? That's bizarre since they probably would have sold a lot of pairs.
>>11732818
>>11733540can't say battroid mode is my favorite mode of the 0S, but that lanky look it has is quite unique even among other VFs
>>11733543>>11733540any chance we see the VF-25 or 19 in hi metal?
>>11734154We've already got the VF-19Kai and VF-19P.
>>11734181Yeah but those are the bad 19s nobody wants
>>11734218Ok retard you can't ask for Frontier shite and then clown on 7.
>>117342227 sucks shit
>>11734266We already know you're a tasteless midwit anon no need to keep further removing doubt. The only truly bad Macross is II and Frontier (TV not the movies).
>>11733543fighter mode looks way better
>>11735258unfortunately, some sections of my 0S have begun to yellow, this is mostly noticeable in the parts that have hinges and connectorsalso, the white unpainted plastic certainly looks like ass compared to another VF with minimum paint, such as this VF-4S, which came out before and still looks better
>>11735260
Hello fellow zentradi, humans are so disgusting. Btw which way is the reactor core?
>>11737410down the hall, turn left
>>11737410Where do You get those clothes?
>>11739353You might be able to get a custom uniform made somewhere, lots of other people did. The one in the pic was released by yamato and it's probably hard to get nowadays. It's a mildly interesting story, one of the admins on macrossworld was contacted by yamato asking what products people would like to see. I posted that I wanted a zentradi uniform for the TV Max and a few months later the madmen actually released it. It was almost as expensive as a valk but I felt obligated to get it since there's a chance my post was the cause.
>>11719786I just want a Veritech like this design that can transform between all three and actually decent posebilityIs the old Revoltech really one of the better options?
>>11739501>Is the old Revoltech really one of the better options?lol no.
>>11739501lmao
>>11739470sounds like a nice case of the company doing wat fans want, neatsurprising too since that disguise thing only happens in one episode
>>11739501Right now Threezero is your beast bang for buck, if you don't mind going that high.
>>11739674Yamato was basically a small enough company that there could be input like that. They had an audience of maybe a few thousand.arcadia is it's successor and similar but don't really interact with the fandom like that. Bandai is technically better in a lot of ways but they do lack some charm that Yamato/Arcadia had at their peak.
>>11723654Nice chogokin spec eva's but like, pose them dude. They're much better TV eva's than the ugly ass TV Blokees kit.
got my first plamax macross model todayMax's battroid should get here tomorrow too
the HG of the messiah is out but man, hope you enjoy applying a gazillion stickers to this thing
>>11741484>They're much better TV eva's than the ugly ass TV Blokees kit.I would fucking well hope $60+ collectible Evas are better than kid's model kits.
>>11741484>>11742163They're boxed at the moment and even if they weren't I'm too scared to pose them after the shoulder joint disintegrated on one of them.
>>11719786I'm surprised that now one has made any live action Robotech movies considering their similarity to Transformers!!!FACT!!!
>>11747321Despite insisting that they do, the roboniggers don't have the rights to make a movie featuring any of the original designs or characters, defeating the purpose of making a robotech movie in the first place.
>>11747369maybe they will someday make a topgun moviewait, isn't that just Plus?wahtever, another 25 repaint
>>11742095this thing is pretty cool, highly recommended
